Makes sense. I like the 3/1 Nahiri/Gideon split, but if you're having more success with Gid, I think 2/2 is fine, too.
Side note: I'm still working on the Leyline main board vs side board test. I just finished 50 matches with main board Leyline, now I'm switching to sideboard Leylines. Timota running mainboard Ghostly Prisons got me thinking, and I think for my sideboard test, I'm going to put 2 Prisons and a third Moon into the main, instead of 2 Scorching Suns like I originally said.
I highly recommend not going below 3 Nahiri. If you do, just drop the Emrakul package altogether and try for a wincon that synergizes more with your build.
We are a prison deck, yes, but we aren’t the type of prison that provides a true lock. Because our primary prison mechanic is a sorcery, not a permanent or group of permanents, I believe we need to focus on one of two strategies: recursion of the prison effect or winning after the prison effect. Blood moon slows down opponents after a lock, but it doesn’t stop them. What if that moon were a wincon instead? What about matches where moon isn’t as effective? What about hand disruption matches where they start fetching basics after the first IoK/TS? In our current meta, these questions are legitimate concerns. When our opponent can win off of one mana spells like Death’s Shadow decks and burn decks or out-attrition our deck with their superior card advantage engines once they get that first island into Serum Visions, our lock is severely weakened.
Blood Moon main isn’t where we want to be. I see it as a trap. All because blue moon gets free wins off dropping it doesn’t mean it’s an insta-main in decks that run basics, otherwise you’d see burn lists mainboarding it. I understand running 2-3 in the side for those matchups, but mainboard should be focused on streamlining our main plan: restoring balance as often as possible or winning after bringing about board peace.
Besides, can’t sacrifice to Gargadon. 0/10
Sorry for the late and short replies. I tend to a busy lifestyle and only really get around to responding from my phone. Still owe Jenn a follow-up review on that data.
Hi guys again it's me,
But what do ya think, is it possible to build it around
Blue
Red
Green
alone? So without Black and White in Budget?
No. You really need either of those colors to get a second cascade ability, otherwise the deck loses out on its title card. Neither color adds too much money to the deck if you stick to the minimum of borderposts + cascader.
One of these days, I design a budget version of the deck and post it here. I can imagine the only cards worth more than 3 dollars being Gargadon and RB.
The Ghostly Prison has been truly phenomenal whether its a solid lock after a Restore or if it just lets me set up more for a
bigger and better Restore I've never really been sad to see one. With the combo match ups I enjoy it even more for its a easy card to take out that can easily be replaced by maybe even said Leylines with the addition of it being more useful against the wider meta than Leylines.
I highly recommend not going below 3 Nahiri. If you do, just drop the Emrakul package altogether and try for a wincon that synergizes more with your build.

Epoa if I do not try the Moon do you think two D-Sphere should still be in the main or should I go 1 main 1 side and fill the slot? If I should fill what should it be with and why? Also do you personally think its worth it in side still?
Edit: I am going to try the D-Sphere as 1 Main/1 Side adding in another Monastery Siege in the main.
One of these days, I design a budget version of the deck and post it here. I can imagine the only cards worth more than 3 dollars being Gargadon and RB.
I am sorry for asking, but epoa do you have me some inspiration for your Budget deck?
I actually cut out the black Mana cards, and the swamp
Added 2 Metalwork Colossus and now I am struck, cause i went to be under 100$ but it seems impossible to me
So I admit I threw this together very quickly and haven't tested it at all, but if I were to try to make a budget build, it would probably look something like this:
According to tappedout, this deck would cost $97. However, for some reason it did not give a price for Wear/Tear, so that may push the price slightly above $100.
I did a small FNM modern event and wanted to post my results here.
The short version is I went 2-1 and if I go with every match I won 4 and lost 2. The good matchups were very good and the bad well, were very bad.
Round 1.
Against one of my sons friends. He runs a blue jank deck that runs Quest for Ula's Temple and then puts counters on it very quickly to cheat out huge blue creature cards. The short version is that this is a very bad matchup for my deck. I made some mistakes but when he drops a Stormtide Leviathan on turn 3 there isn't much I can do. Even after a Balance, he just drops large creatures and his top decks are better. I didn't draw any sideboard help, and that is the way the game goes. So I start the night off with two quick losses, but if I had to loose to someone it might as well be my sons friend.
The lesson learned here is to mulligan to get out a Metalwork Colossus as fast as possible.
Round 2
Against a cool blue Mill deck. The bad news for him is that a turn 3 Metalwork Colossus and a turn 4 one as well makes his life very bad. He also didn't notice the Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in my deck until our second game. He milled half my deck and then hit it and just conceded. I felt bad for him as it sucks to have one card ruin your night. Having said that, having the Nahiri, the Harbinger combo does offer some extra value that I hadn't planned for. So far 1-1.
Round 3
Against a White Green copy your creatures and good stuff deck. This was another weird matchup because I prepared for meta stuff and had not faced anything yet. I had an early Metalwork Colossus but he copied it and we killed each other. The all star here was Nahiri, the Harbinger in that he was matching everything I had and apparently had a ton of mana because he kept drawing it after a balance. He had a card, not sure of the name that negated her ultimate, but I still had 2 on her loyalty and she just ticked up again. I won a very very long game one. I made one huge mistake and thought he had a creature out and balanced with a Metalwork on the field. I lost it... felt really stupid. Game 2 went very quickly. I had a turn 3 balance thanks to Simian Spirit Guide that he didn't know I had and his mistake was not saving any mana back thinking he had me on my next turn. I am going to up this to 4.
I was also able to drop a blood moon on turn 3 or 4 in every game, but it had no real effect against these types of decks. Having said that I am still keeping them in, but may not main them in this meta. In other areas they have won me the game on the spot.
Another awesome card. I learned something with this card in that if you drop it, and you don't see the opponent freak out, be careful as they probably have an out. Having said that there are not a lot of outs to this card, and being able to bring him back from the graveyard is also nice.
Won me a game! In all seriousness though, having this actually won me three games because it shuffled 3 balances back in to my deck and gave me more options along with just punching a guy in the face one game so he just conceded. This card is also part of the combo, so it isn't going anywhere. Sucks to draw it though with no chance of casting Nahiri
Overall thoughts
There was a burn deck and affinity deck there as well, so I believe I would have struggled against both of them, but this was a very fun deck to play and can just steal wins. Didn't see much of my sideboard but I love the addition of Wear / Tear and wanted to thank this forum for showing me that card. It gave me hope against my one match loss and it has many other uses as well. I have played this deck quiet a bit over the years and with the recent changes it is a lot more fun. My "serious" deck is the Devoted Druid Abzan combo, but with all the creature hate going on, I found this deck more fun to play, knowing that some matchup's are just not good. Also, I saw no stony silence
We were going to play a round 4 but in our area the snow was going crazy and everyone agreed it made sense to leave. Also I get questions about not having the right mana to cast things as I run all colors. This was a problem in one game and one game only for me and I still won. Is it a problem? Yes, but I rely on having all the posts for the Metalwork Colossus . Could it be better with going to fetch lands and reducing one color, I personally don't think so without making a different deck.
So congrats on the two wins, I have some advice if that's ok. First off I know your thinking of dropping a color I couldn't suggest it more. It was the best thing I have ever done with the deck for competitive aspect. I personally think Black should be cut, the color offers some powerful cards but I believe blue offers more. With As Foretold and Ardent Plea bringing easier mana fixing. Speaking about that I understand you want to cast Metalwork but with the deck you listed above 30 cards in your deck that produces mana. That's insane half of your deck is mana producing sources I feel a bit overloaded currently with 24 lands. Here a few beginning tips for basic adjustments.
My reasoning for the card choices is the borderpost fuel metalwork and to be honest I don't care about their color that much. Given that bolt, push and path are a thing for spot removal, that makes metalwork very nice as it only leaves path as the one drop answer that I know of that really hurts. Also, it is very important for me to be able to pull off a balance by turn 4, so loosing two cards that can balance does slightly effect that (10 down to 8). Lastly, I do like that I can use black in my sideboard options. Currently removing black wouldn't, but it is a small factor that I consider.
So a LOT of math and testing on my part after suggestions!
Thanks again and now that you now my reasoning I would love to hear any specific changes to improve the deck. I will gladly proxy up the cards and give it a quick go.
I wanted to post this also for those that wondered if this version of a deck can work. It does, and for me in 6 games I had one time I needed a different color and couldn't make it.
In my testing the deck has a lot of good match-ups and some very bad ones. Having said that, I believe there is definitely a better version of this deck out there and love suggestions.
Eh, pass. I don't really see how this card gives us anything that we need.
We don't run a lot of creatures, so we won't have many to activate its first ability. And a token-generating, two mana land doesn't really revolutionize our deck. Since we want to have 0 creatures to get the most out of RB, I only like to run game-ending creatures like Emrakul, Gargadon, and Colossus. Plus, depending on a land holds back our RBs, too. The more I think about this card, the less I like it.
now I have to say I took my time searched the net, and bought me together an Restore Balance Deck, but first I didn't took your advice, Cause I am too interested in 5 Color playing I am sorry mates
I know Lingering souls is a discussed Option, but thats a cheap flying Blocker, I can sacrifice them to the Gargadon and Last but not least, I could cast it twice via flashback. therefore is black needed for it, also for the Dismember and the Nihilith.
Now where i am finished and have sleeved everything Whatcha say is the Land and manabase via Bordeposts enought? I hope/beg for yes
And additionally what I found yesterday: Kiora, the Crashing Wave what do ya think about the Planeswlaker in our deck? It would be an alternative finisher I think...
Your mana base looks ok. Personally, I think 15 borderposts is too many, but if it works, it works. I think by running that many BPs, you open yourself up to being hurt really bad by artifact destruction.
Lingering Souls is definitely a good card. It's fallen out of favor, as many lists are cutting black, but if you run black, I would think LS is almost an auto-include.
Kiora has also been discussed here in the past. I ran her in my first version of the deck. Personally, I like Gideon of the Trials better, but I don't think she's terrible.
AAAHHHH so much I need to catch up on! I'll start from the bottom and go up.
Kiora used to be in a few builds. I ran her when she came out. Her biggest problem is the odd cast timing. You use her mainly to fog threats, but at 4 mana, she primed for after a balance, when the threats tend to be gone. If you're going the superfriends route with Elspeth and Gideon and others, she's a good addition, but otherwise I'd only use her if I were on a budget.
Black tends to be an agreed upon weak color for our decks (as I've stated before, it's my favorite color, so this pains me deeply). If you are running black, Nihilith and Lingering Souls are must-includes. I'd also recommend looking at other powerful cards such as Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver.
Also, you have three borderposts too many. Take a look at your spells and see what the best cuts are. I'd say one each mistvein, veinfire, and wildfield, but I'd play with the numbers and test what you need. Being in 5 colors severely dampens your options there.
The spoilers have a few things I'm eyeing. Blood Sun shuts down fetchlands and really is only useless against Tron. Release to the Wind has some build potential behind it, possibly exiling a creature like Goblin Darkdwellers or something to save them from a wrath. I wouldn't dig into that too much, though. Induced Amnesia makes me wish Garga hit enchantments.
I guess only Blood Sun really has potential to it, though.
Jenn's budget brew is very close to what I'd concoct.
epoa, this isn't really related to anything we're talking about at the moment, but I went to my first FNM with Bow of Nylea in the 75 and man, that card feels pretty good when it gets going...
Side note: I'm still working on the Leyline main board vs side board test. I just finished 50 matches with main board Leyline, now I'm switching to sideboard Leylines.
