Hey, guys, I've been trying to pick up the deck in the last few weeks in preparation for the KCI ban (rest in peace), and it's been taking me a while to feel like I'm getting better with it. Is it bad to be goldfishing with the deck? I feel like I need to get better at recognizing what is keepable, and this deck is very different from most other Modern decks, so I'm having trouble with that. Also, is there a better-splash people have been using? I've been testing the Daryl Ayers deck from the SCG Team Open (https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=20904&d=338394&f=MO) but I saw some people playing with a black splash for Trophy. What are people thinking?
Hey 13055 - I think the white splash is probably pretty good right now. I don't particularly like the black splash, only Cranial Extraction is worth having and now that KCI is gone/going, then I think it's less useful. Goldfishing is an excellent way to get to grips with the opening hands. There's quite a lot going on when mulliganing, and you to accept that sometimes it's correct to keep a hand and it won't get there (e.g. keeping a hand full of ramp and lands with 0 threats, only to never draw the threat).
I did write a document on mulliganing with Amulet, it may help you. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AfpzQEnFFBP0iWN2XVM0G_WoKYueGdL6bqfH2mYrzic/edit?usp=sharing
@daviusminimus What’s your current decklist at the current moment.
I absolutely agree with you on the White version of Amulet being the better version right now.
What’s your opinion on the 2 EE’s sideboard??
And how good do you think the newer version of Sigarda is? The (2) exile to create tokens??
And Ramunap that’s been in a lot of lists lately
@GiJeJu - I haven't actually tested a tonne of white amulet, mainly because i'm playing with the new POD at the minute
But, I think the 2nd and 3rd EE in the board are a necessity in the white version, because you don't have firespout/pyroclasm. Sometimes you just need 2/3 for 1s, and EE is the best way to do that.
Ramunap I really disliked. The times that it's good, Tireless Tracker is also good. But then there's times when you want tracker over ramunap, as an example, against blood moon. I wouldn't run Ramunap myself, testing didn't go well.
I've never tested new Sigarda, but it looks fine. I really just want my SB creatures to be effective at what they're doing. So old Sigarda is really good vs Liliana, since they can't just terminate her then downtick Lili, whereas new Sigarda fails there. However, the token mode may make up for that, plus she's easier to cast. You'd have to test it unfortunately!
@daviusminimus Thanks for the insight I do appreciate the response! I’ll be sure to consider the effectiveness of the white version. Just because Phoenix is around I just believe the white version is better at the moment.
Round 1 vs. UR Phoenix. One of 2 guys I carpooled with. I win game 1 with too many Titans, even after a Thing flip. I lose game 2 to Blood Moon on turn 3. No Forest, no Nature's Claim, no Reclamation Sage or Pact, no nothing. I drew a Forest the turn before I lost. In the final game, I lose to multiple Things. I thought with Ancient Stirrings and some draws, I could find a bounceland, but it took too long before I did. 1-2.
Round 2 vs. Tron. The first game went how typical Tron vs. Amulet games go. I get the Titan train going and he couldn't find Tron + I had Ghost Quarter out. In the next game, I play a million Titans vs. 2 Wurmcoil Engines and I Spell Pierce a Karn. 2-0.
Round 3 vs. Martyr Proc. The other guy I carpooled with. He gets stuck on mana and the Titan train starts, with Pact of Negation for his Wrath of God that was revealed to Martyr on turn 2. In the next game, he gets me. I literally use all my resources to kill his stuff and keep him less than 30 life, but Wrath of God into Cleansing Nova gets me. In the final game he goes Martyr into Squadron Hawk (I thought it would be Damping Sphere) … because I turn 3 double Amulet and crush him. 2-1.
Round 4 vs. Burn. Burn has gotten some serious upgrades from Ravnica Allegiance! I play my Radiant Fountain 3 times and still lose handily. I needed Amulet to win. In the next game, I do the same again and 2 Obstinate Baloth and I barely...I mean barely win. In the final game, I mull a hand with Prime Times and lands. I keep on 6 with a Sakura-Tribe Scout, Radiant Fountain, a bounceland, and a Summoner's Pact. I end up not being able to play the Scout in time and I lose to 3 creatures with Burn on top of that...again... 1-2.
I finish 2-2, which was disappointing. My toughest opponent was actually in Round 2, but he drew poorly. There were 2 other Amulet decks, both with Through the Breach and Wayward Swordtooth. They went 4-0 and 3-1.
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
I think Wayward Swordtooth is better than Scout because Wayward is a 5/5,can't die with a lightning bolt,..., The Scout is very light with Izzet Phoenix.
Through the Breach-Titan is very poweful and Emrakul is destroy too.
I think Amulet breach is easier to play than Amulet Titan without breach.
The worst of Amulet breach is very slow at first without amulet, the deck needs more agressive mulligans, turn 1 Amulet, turn 2 Azusa or Wayward and turn 3 breach or titan.
I started with the Red for Abrade about 6 weeks ago. Being still pretty new I switch to white from red, after a lot of my LGS players started playing the phoenix deck for the Path to Exiles mostly. White is probably the strongest color to run against these decks. But I'm kinda leaning towards Black for Assassins Trophy since the positives outweigh the negatives I think in favor of Assassin's Trophy over Abrade as I no longer feel a need for Firespout. I really think the land they gain from Assassin's Trophy or Path to Exile is a minor backlash while we are hopefully on a faster plan.
Not looking to stir up any debate but as the red for Abrade doesn't seem worth it. I only felt the white was worth it for Path to Exiles and unless I'm playing against the hot new phoenix deck, I really like the Trophys instead of abrades while also playing 2-3 Memoricide to give me chance against annoying combo decks like Ad Nauseam or Storm. The overall plan of the deck doesn't change. Just how we interact with the opponent. So I'm really enjoying myself playing Black for now.. instead Red of course.
Would Frost Titan be choice to run in UG in this? I do love Frost Titan and I love ramp decks.
Probably not. The deck is too refined as of now, even if there are several versions, including the White version, regular Amulet, Breach Amulet, and more Hive Mind oriented versions.
I do remember a friend near the beginning of Modern who ran what is essentially the beginnings of Bloom Titan. He called the deck "Karoo" or "Kangaroo" or something like that. He actually did run 1-2 Frost Titan before he cut them for Hive Minds. I still remember the evolution of this deck and how they finally scrapped Kessig Wolf Run for more important lands. It is a lands deck after all...

Hello folks. I'm coming over from the Green Devotion thread, looking for a more competitive deck (but still ramp strategy), since Devotion has not been panning out for me. How is Amulet positioned these days? Is it worth picking up Amulet Titan in the current meta? I run into all kinds of decks at my shop so its hard to guess what's gonna be good on any given week. Primeval Titan is one of my favorite cards in Modern and this seems like a deck to maximize Titan's capabilities. I understand it is hard to learn, but I'm not opposed to practicing the different lines of play if it's going to reward me in the long run.

First and foremost, this is a game, so if playing Frost Titan is the best avenue for you to have fun, have at it. That being said, to piggy back off of @FoodChainGoblins, Frost titan doesn't add a lot to the deck in that it doesn't help with the consistency of the deck, nor does it shore up some bad match ups for the deck. It will neither win the game on the spot, nor can it really claw back from behind. In terms of making the build as streamlined as possible, it doesn't look like frost titan is the extra bomb we want. All of the cards so far being semi-tutorable off of ancient stirrings/tolaria west is low key incredible and cannot be overlooked to giving this deck any competitiveness. If you want a fun UU card to oops I win with, then Hive Mind is a blast. And if you just want to jam bigger beaters, then breach is where you probably want to be.

It's a fun deck for sure, and has some pretty solid games to win as well as can win from some positions almost out of nowhere. That being said, it is not the most consistent in terms of speed and you can get run over, as well as the games where you don't draw amulet feel incredibly different. Also, with tron and storm always being around, we will fold to some of their hate as well, which usually just means that people have good sideboards against us even if we're not on their mind. But if you can get through the fact that it will be hard, you end up with a ton of games where you get to make meaningful decisions and linear people as well as make a lot of linear decisions and midrange people. I'm biased but would def. recommend.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought I had most of the pieces to build the deck but when I priced out what I'd still have to buy, I priced myself right back out of this deck for now. So this may have to be a future project when I've got more funds saved up. In the meantime I'll probably still lurk in the thread and keep up with the deck.
@kOno - is GP London modern?! Urgh how to make that happen for myself!?
I will be playing amulet if i make it to London. How much testing I do will depend how much fun I'm having with Prime Speaker Vannifar!
If I do go, I'll test for a solid month, like 200 matches. That'll be enough hopefully!
the GP isn't Modern. the Mythic Championship and side events are Modern.
sorry!
I'm going for the side events. they are generally better EV, I always do well and in the past i've been able to snag ABU Duals from the prize wall, so that's my plan (or just a tonne of boosters).
also with you on Vannifar. built that last week & it's sitting there ready to go

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
At the moment I'm running 1x ranger as the fifth tribe scout. Seems like a great idea. In the other flex slot I'm running 1x trinket mage.
What's the consensus here? I haven't got many reps with the deck yet and I'm feeling like trinket mage is super slow? Please advise. Maybe my play patterns are wonky.

There appear to be two flex slots for value creatures. I've seen these slots filled by the following in 5-0 and good finishing lists:
