I think if you want a counterspell for this deck, it's Disrupting Shoal. I've played RUG Delver with Thing and Reveler for a while, and the card is nuts when you have ways to recover card advantage. Here, you can even Shoal your own spell for zero mana if you need your Phoenixes online ASAP.
Denial probably takes too long to come online in this deck to be very useful. Izzet Charm seems versatile but it's horribly inefficient.
I believe its advantaged against Tron, but you may need Kiln Fiend as you do have to race.
Funnily enough I have seen that on the Tron side they feel advantaged which probably means it's somewhere in the middle and kinda even. I think a fast start destroys them but you need to have it. You can't just cantrip a bunch and setup something because it will very likely not be a game with a bunch of back and forth. You either destroy them or you get destroyed.
I have been running Blood Moon in the side and has been great. While it's no longer the soul-crushing, free-win card it used to be, it helps considerably to buy time for a deck that can still win within 2 turns of landing a threat.

Yep, I'm on the Kiln version, because I just dont feel online you get the luxury of durdling around with Cantrips.
For sure, but when I was jamming this a few weeks ago, it wasnt creature decks I cared about. It was 'I need to kill inside 3 turns' and for that, Fiend.
Just caved in and bought the deck in paper tonight while at FNM, I am SO EXCITED to play this!!
Has anyone been playing fiery temper mainboard like mono red phoenix? Seems pretty good but wanted some opinions from people who have been playing it
Also I saw you mentioned the Kiln Fiend idSurge, does the 2 toughness that doesn't change seem like a big downfall? Makes them still weak to bolt regardless of how many spells you have cast

Yeah its weak to removal, but its a meta call. At the time, there was little to no interaction being played online that week, once people started to lose to Phoenix you saw a ton more Jund, UWR, and GDS to remove things.
All depends on what you are expecting to face. If its 'I'm linear too, lets race!' then Fiend wins, always.
Good point! I really like swift spear also
I was talking with someone tonight and they were saying how awful it is, but I feel like every crazy win I've seen had a swiftspear swinging for like 5 a turn
When does Ral come in btw? Control matchups?

Ral is there to blow up problematic creatures, x/5's, and the draw + one to the yard can do work, while the Ultimate in a deck with 20ish cantrips is 'I win'.
People who say swiftspear is bad...well I dont know what decks they play, its an amazing card.
Hoo boy, talk about some bad beats. I 0-3 dropped last night to back to back to back Thoughtsieze decks (GDS, Lantern, Jund). Every single match was lost 0-2, and if I remember correctly, every single game of every match had a turn 1 Thoughtsieze/IoK. This turned my multiple Turn 3/4 kill hands into non-functional piles. Combined with only resurrecting 2 birds across six games and my 1 or 2 other threats per game all dying, it was a pretty rough night. Anyone who says this deck is busted or broken hasn't yet had a night like this! It's enough to make me sleeve up GDS for next FNM. lol.
Hey has anyone tried Chandra, Torch of Defiance in place of Ral? I feel like all of her modes are relevant in this style deck!Even adding two red mana on the turn she is cast allows for you to double/triple spell that turn

That is true! However her -3 in combination with bolt/gut shot does
I just like that she comes down a turn earlier and doesn't require blue mana to cast
I could see Chandra potentially being better suited for a mono red phoenix style sideboard though! Good point

That was on reddit as a sideboard list. It's the first time I've seen a thought out sideboard for the deck. It should be put on the primer unless there's better info out there
