Guys, I know this theme has come over and over again. Has anyone tried again a set of collected company on the traditional shell? I think it is strong but dunno for sure.
A list that won last month has 3 Collected Company. 22 land. No mana dorks.
Yeah, just a few more weeks of wait before we get the 5/4 elf.
Although I can only run one in my list unless the meta changes. In my area, there are plenty of Hollow One... the elf will be killed by Hollow, while leatherback baloth would live in combat with the 4/4 mummies. The big guys in my list would be 1 Rhonas, 2 Baloth, 1 Elf. Will increase the number of steel leaf if testings in FNM are succesful.
Actually here is a thing. Death touch screws over hollow one decks quite nicely so Narnam Renegade even if not revolted is useful and relevant in quite a few game modes. I was thinking Wren's Run Vanquisher plus Steel Leaf Champion and Narnam might make for a variant core to combat hollow one while still maintaining aggression. Its definitely something that you cant just chuck into the current core but with 12 elves to choose from and them all being relevant bodies in their own right, this could be a development rabbit hole to look through. Maybe find other aggressive cost elves that aren't combo style and run from there?
Just a quick idea I threw together. Not married to it yet but it seems like a direction we could go without having to jump through some of the hoops the other variant might. Aspect may or may not be the right thing but it sticks to the core of what we have enough that I think it would work.
When I was looking through gatherer and seeing what card types we were Bramblewood stood out as something interesting to try and Greenwheel is a warrior alongside its revolt trigger you could maybe +3 itself coming into play. My biggest issue is Twinblade slasher. Don't know if it would be better to replace with Dryad, or E1. We might have to play with the ratio so that scavenging ooze could make space depending on meta or on how this shakes out
Was also thinking Rishkar, Peema Renegade. But that seemed like pushing too far for a would be nice but iffy card.
And just looked through gatherer for just warriors seeing if there was something to use and found Hero of Leina Tower which may or may not be of relevance but would be certainly interesting as a one drop instead of twinblade.
@EonAon : I'm no expert with the deck but I've found Avatar of the Resolute to be very important against Affinity (G1 is atrocious even with him anyway) and an important evasive body otherwise. Could Thornweald Archer be a consideration in your build ?
I don't like Greenwheal Liberator too much, along with Renegade, you need to play 10-12 fetchlands to make it work consistently, and it doesn't provide anything interesting besides its type.
Could Nettle Sentinel be better than Twinblade Slasher ?

Avatar of the resolute has been on my mind ever since I fiddled with the elves version since independently most of the creatures can gain +1 counters and he positively loves +1 counters. The only places I could possibly fit him would be to take out the Ghalta/Rhonas spot for a pair which I'm leaning toward somewhat, the Bramblewood spot which if you read the last tag of his ability gives everything with a +1 counter trample regardless of them being a elf or a warrior but the more I look the more it might be too cute for the deck overall with a full 4 pack, or the Wren run spot which defeats the purpose of adding wren's run. Admittedly I'm not married to the ratios of anything yet since this is still pretty virtual, so I may be able to shave off something to pop him in.
I think on Greewheel were going to have to agree to disagree on its inclusion. I own all the fetches suggested in the above list and powering out a 4/3 turn two like Zoo without the need for land types that Wild Nacatl requires makes it pretty equivalent if not as speedy. If Bramblewood is out it comes into play with a third +1 counter and gains trample. If I can put in the Avatar, the Avatar counts the +1 counter which is all for the good. I believe there is enough upside with what I have that its good mechanically.
I'm absolutely onboard with Thornweald. Biggest issue is that he is a SB card at most. If we can cram in the Avatar this may become moot or he could stay in the SB for backup in that matchup.
If Nettle Sentinel didn't have that first line of text saying he wont untap during your upkeep he would have been in the deck. We do play loads of green spells its true. The problem is we don't always have a spell on tap to keep him untapped when we want him. Combo elves gets away with it since heritage druid allows you to play elves without having to pay mana from lands added to the fact that a good chunk of that deck is on the 1cc side.
I choose twinblade for a few reasons but ultimately he is one of the weakest card choices. Mostly the reasons were elf/warrior first and foremost, wither which is pretty good later on in the game since the -1 counters it can give can be relevant, and it self buffs later on for a if need be reverse giant growth chump block on larger creatures or indestructible creatures. Depending on how the deck shakes out E1 could take his spot or the Hero of Lenia since that card can self buff as well when we target her with pump spells.
@ Amicdeep
Yeah lords weren't even on my radar for testing in this and pretty much still are not. The only two true lords I would consider in this are Imperious Perfect or Rishkar, Peema Renegade, and Rishkar is the only one Id truly play since his +1 counter isn't dependent upon him staying in play as well as allowing you to cast things off other 1 drops later on if you absolutely positively need to.
I've been toying around on the hand draw simulator and I've come to the consideration that a full playset of Bramble is actually awkward in here. You want it turn two but you cant always get it in the correct order for the interactions you wish since it alone isn't applying any pressure to the field, where as you want greenwheel and wren early, but avatar likes to come in late to start counting his counters. Also Ghalta was flooding my hand at inopportune times and just sitting there. I think taking bramble's spot and putting avatar there and removing Rhonas and Ghalta for a pair of Bramble, or removing Bramble entirely and adding a pair of Rhonas might be in order.
Yeah, sorry to sound rude.. but I don't understand why there's a discussion about imperious perfect and archdruid doing in the stompy thread. It looks more like an aggro elves deck that has Rhonas and Ghalta.
Eh I never suggested that lords be used. Just that Imperious is more on point than trying to shove in a mana elf like archdruid. Stompy is pretty much a deck where cheap casting efficient beaters are used. It just so happens that with Steel leaf and revolt triggers it opens up a route to a more tribal synergy with a 2/3, 3/3, 4/3, min another 4/3(avatar), and a 5/4 without jumping through a lot of insurmountable or complicated hoops. That's a lot of fairly solid green beaters. A good chunk of those cards have evasion in the form of deathtouch, trample, wither, or cannot be blocked by 2 or less. Its just another version of stompy
So I'm only just now getting back to a place with reliable internet and am able to see things again, but how do you like Summoning Trap in your sideboard? I totally forgot that card even existed.
I don't know how much room there is for more 2-drops, but this does look pretty good. You can cast it early, it has trample, and it's a pretty good topdeck mid- to lategame. I'm just a bit worried about him being a 2/2 with 1 devotion, and you have to have 5 mana to cast him kicked, which is a lot in our deck.
Two mana 2/2 with trample and vigilance seems good. The kicker is very sketchy to me though.
Edit: This guys feels alot like Kessig Prowler in our deck. The kicker is nice if/when we need it, but it isn't wholly necessary. Like Prowler's transform ability. As much as I love Kavu, I don't think I'll run him in my deck. Still might be on the lookout for a foil though. Just to have.
For the standard low-to-the-ground stompy, I'd rather run Garruk's Companion for the extra devotion and 3 power (and the Companion is widely considered too weak to play). Vigilance is only relevant if you manage to make it bigger or give it deathtouch. I run 2 Kessig Prowlers and they rarely transform, so I don't think the kicker is all that relevant unless your moving towards a ramp list with mana dorks. But, at that point, there are stronger 4-5 drops you should probably be focusing on.
So it's a better Kavu Titan? Pass. The transform critter is better because it's adequate early and can be transformed later, while the Kavu will likely start small and stay small. If a card is only useful as a late game topdeck, it's probably not good enough.
Kavu Titan is a chase card years ago, many people like to have it. But the power level of cards today is different, Kavu Titan is not really strong anymore. Well, my build of Stompy does not use any Aspect of Hydra, so I might try one Untamed Kavu in a flex slot just for nostalgia.
It is two drop that has two power. It doesn't even trade well on the defense. Even kicked it is five for 5 power. It is bad. Please do not play this card.
Eh its not that bad, but neither is it really good. I wouldn't put it in here considering that getting to 5 land drops would mean your on the tail end of anything.
