In terms of your list, how has running 8 mana dorks and fewer two drops felt?
Thoughts on Eternal Witness?
It's also probably difficult to quantify, but have you noticed anything moving from 21 to 22 lands?
Thanks for the replies, some interesting thoughts. Definitely think the 2 drop problem is one that does impact the Humans list, with the exception of maybe Bant Red, which seems to have the most promising alternatives.
Agree that 3CMC Thalia is best Turn 2, but I find that she really helps to put us on the front foot against creature decks and most modern landbases, although she does paint a large target on her head, and if she is answered efficiently then you're right - she doesn't do anything.
I think I heard about the tournament on an SCG stream maybe? I'm glad the tournament is doing well.
Long time follower of this fine primer, first time poster.
Currently playing bant humans, and testing 2x Auriok Champion. Been loving that card in my SB, replaced over 2x crusaders, but seems like that card is nowhere to be seen in other lists. Has anyone give it a go? Burn and shadow decks have a lot of trouble against it. Also, crusader, might jump back in case of a rise of GBx decks
For me, Auriok Champion is a sort-of answer to burn and presents a problem to black/red/x decks. Personally it's a case of being not quite good enough to bring in for burn matchups over other cards with an instant impact - other people have mentioned Arashin Cleric as an alternative - as they tend to run Path to Exile anyway. Against Death's Shadow I prefer Crusader, it's a better clock , but both give the opponent a massive headache.
There's no reason to not play it if you expect a lot of burn/death's shadow, but there's not much in my local meta, so I can afford to run Sin Collector and Kambal as sort of answers alongside the Thalias for disruption against Burn, and go grindy with Eternal Witness/RiP against Death's Shadow.
I always ran 2 Auriok in my SB, and even tried them main in the early state of the archetype, like 9+ months ago.
The card is very good VS Burn, Dredge, Elves, Merfolk, Zoo (overall decks that put a ton of stuff on the board). It's not great VS most black decks because we usually race them and Auriok is everything but an aggro card. It doesn't block Delver, Snap, Clique, Tarmo, Scooze, etc... so it's not always a great defensive card in thos MUs either.
In the burn MU, it's an MVP when played on T2, otherwise it loses some value but stabilizes the board and opens the midgame nonetheless.

I'm still playing 2 copies in the board. I've also completely removed crusader from my list as recent iterations of Shadow online have been playing young pyromancer and bolt.
Played Humans again at a 4 round tournament. There were only 8 players though and it was a soft tournament. Still, 4-0 feels good!
Round 1 vs. Merfolk. He said he hadn't played in a while. I hadn't seen him before. I have barely enough pressure to get him by drawing 2 late Reflector Mages to push through lethal, sending back a Master of Waves. In the next game, he has enough early pressure, my life loss from lands, and a midgame Master of Waves that is unanswered. In the next game, I keep on 3 Reflector Mage, 2 Path to Exile, Overgrown Tomb, and Avacyn's Pilgrim. Luckily for me, I draw pressure and annihilate everything he has. Finally, I still have a Reflector Mage in hand when I do lethal. 2-1.
Round 2 vs. BW Midrange. The first game, he nabs my Thalia, Heretic Cathar that I was going to turn 2. He plays Dark Confidant and more discard, then Liliana of the Last Hope. After he played that, my draws were Noble Hierarch, Champion of the Parish, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Avacyn's Pilgrim, and Mayor of Avabruck. But then I draw 2 Collected Company into more Thalia's Lieutentant and Champion of the Parish. He has a Liliana emblem, but makes a mistake of triple blocking a Lieutentant to kill it. I keep the pressure on and draw Reflector Mage for a token into Thalia, Heretic Cathar and he has no untapped Zombies. In the next game, he kept on 1 land, Fatal Pushing my Noble Hierarch, but I land Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and he scoops to some Champs and Lieutenants short afterward. Drew damn good this game! 2-0.
Round 3 vs. Grixis Death's Shadow. He gets stuck on 1 land for a turn, then finds it tough to tempo out of it. I Sin Collector a Thought Scour and he gets some creatures, but I go just barely wide enough with Reflector Mage and Co. to get lethal. In the next game, he basically kills everything I play, and Engineered Explosives on 2 kills Rest in Peace and a Lieutenant. In the next game, I do turn 2 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and it slows him down enough. He takes some hits, but gets Anger of the Gods to kill my creatures. I come back with Collected Company after drawing a 4th land into Mirran Crusader and Sin Collector, nabbing his 2nd Anger of the Gods. I draw a land next turn to Gavony Township my Mirran Crusader for lethal. 2-1.
Round 4 vs. Some BW nearly budget Standard build. Not much to see here. He had nothing that cost 1, I curved out, and he had no sweepers. Pretty easy round. The only reason I was paired against him was because we didn't play each other yet. Poor guy. 2-0.

Round 1 vs Ponza 1-2
First game I managed to IoK his blood moon turn 1, after some back and forth I stuck two KotR after he had destroyed the majority of my land, which won me the game. Second game I didn't draw enough dorks and eventually lost to a monstrous storm breath dragon. Game 3 he played a blood moon turn 2 and there was not much I could do.
Round 2 vs Burn 0-2
Think both games were over in 10 minutes. Game 1 he left my Bob alive, which three turns of CoCo off the top, did all the hard work for him while he pinged my mana dorks! Game two he just bolted anything on the board and eventually beat me with a topdecked boros charm
Round 3 vs 8 Rack 2-0
Managed to get enough creatures out to keep presenting a threat. Bob meant that I didn't take too much damage from Rack or shrieking affliction.
Round 4 vs ETron 2-1
Game 1 was a race, which I lost when he played Emrakul. Game 2 he mulled to 5 and must've kept a sketchy hand so I managed to keep swinging through with pumped weenies. Game 3 was exceptionally close and it was Thalia who saved the day when he tried to hard cast an Ugin.
Thoughts
- Need more lifegain main deck. +2 auriok champion -2 Mayor
- Felt I needed more interaction/utility pieces.... maybe Fiend hunter? Any other suggestions?
- Manabase is very greedy (especially with Bob)... Any suggestions?
- Anyone got any thoughts on how to slow down the big mana decks? More Thalia's and ghost quarters?
- CoCo is a great card, but would aether vial be better?
I know not many on the thread are going down the Abzan route, but I feel the deck has potential.... just needs a fair bit of tweaking!

In black Collective Brutality is MVP against Burn and has applications against almost everything in the format.
Here, Vial is bad, Coco is good.
Big mana decks must be raced. SB cards like counters and discard are a necessary evil.
Your list runs 1 Recruiter, 3 Confidants and 3 Witnesses, which turns it into a midrange deck. That's why you want more interaction, it's because you have a slow clock. I'd suggest you to trim on those creatures (-3 cards), add +1 Ana to begin with. You need to win the game, not to draw and redraw midrange stuff forever, otherwise you better play Tarmo and Scooze. You're right in between two archetypes, which is a bad thing. Do you see what I mean ?

Anyone tried doing mono white +1/+1 abzan lords with Odric at the helm? It sounds like a good idea to try since we now have Metallic Mimic and Thalia's Lieutenant to utilize and therefore there's almost no reason to really use Hardened Scales.
Still looking for more creatures with good abilities to throw in that are low CMC. Having too many 3 cost cards will probably make the deck too clunky. Pro red and pro black sound good as well right now with Fatal Push AND Lightning Bolt running loose. Paladin En-Vec suddenly looks a little better positioned...
Also thinking about Imposing Sovereign as a counter to hasty aggro decks in a mirror match. Also, from the new set in mono-white it may be worth trying Devoted Crop-mate, but I'm still thinking that is a bit slow even if it is to recover something, since the time we'd get back the 2 drop it would be a swing on Turn 4.
Also, as far as human tribal is going, I'm thinking of trying a "Taste the rainbow" style deck soon once Ixalan is out. The tribal land that is at uncommon is possibly the best thing to happen in a long time for modern tribal since Cavern of Souls. For modern the two cards are basically the same so now there are 8x rainbow lands for humans.

The article below isnt a very in depth look and analysis on the deck. There is an interesting card in the side a 1 of Qasali Ambusher and 1 of Abzan Falconer which gives evasion but I wonder why its not a 2 of. I get that the 3 spot has so many options. Ive seen 1 guy rationalize a bunch of different 2 of's to keep the opponent off balance and have better versatility over full playsets in the 3 slots. He ran 12 3 drops Sin, Thalia, Reflector, Mirran, Anafenza and KotR ... I didnt get to see his whole list so I dont know how his other cards compliment his 3 drops.
Ambusher would seem really good against other fast Zoo decks possibly even Burn when they (I) drop Swiftspear/Guide. I may have to test that out in a Naya build.

Actually, Humans Coco preys on DS. That's one reason why the deck rose, it was exactly when DS was the #1 deck. If the list is built correctly, it's a favorable MU. the archetype took the advantage over Vizier Coco and Bant Knightfall for a few weeks online because it's the one that has the more powerful beatdown plan & interactive elements.
Leyline is strong, Aegis is weak. Since Burn is a bad MU and we may want to shore up some combo MUs that hit in the face, it's not a bad idea to consider Leylines in the SB.

I've tried Dark Confidant, and whilst it is a very powerful card, I feel he makes Burn a worse matchup, and it's not a good one to begin with, as your example shows. Having Sin Collector take one of their damage spells is sort of life gain/damage prevention, and I run 2 Kambal, Consul of Allocation in my sideboard mainly for Storm/non-creature decks, but I bring him in against burn too as he provides a wall for their creatures, forcing them to bolt him, which is "gain 5 life".
Reflector Mage is the interaction card of choice, guess Fiend Hunter/Banisher Priest is your non-Blue alternative.
I agree your manabase seems ambitious, most lists run 21 lands. Simple answer would be to add 3 more Caverns, and a basic Plains. Budget wise, you could go for Razorverge Thicket or Concealed Courtyard instead of the Caverns - I only run 2 in my Knightfall Humans with 8 fetches.
Again, Blue has the easiest answers – Negate and Unified Will – for big decks. In black maybe Brutality or Thoughtseize?
I personally think CoCo is better, you can end up dumping most of your hand by Turn 4, so an instant speed chance to hit (most likely) 2 Humans to mess up combat maths or disrupt an opponent is better for me than playing extra things from your hand, as you’ve likely played most of them already.
As Headminerve said, your list seems less explosive than other Humans lists, which increases your need for disruption. You need 4 extra lands, so I'd cut the Bobs and the Recruiter - maybe try a Tireless Tracker or two for card draw with all your fetchlands? I'd look for a way to move the Sin Collectors main board to give you some more hand disruption you can hit off CoCo. Anafenza is a good clock, a second copy might be a good idea. I'd find space for a Kambal or two somewhere in my 75 too.
FInal thought that I'm still trying to think through for my own deck - is Knight of the Reliquary better than Mirran Crusader in this list? Knight can grow big with the right lands, but pumping a Crusader is a very quick clock if they can't answer it. You're also not running blue for the Reatreat Combo or Red for Kessig Wolf Run, which are good reasons to be running Knight.
Do you guys think Deadeye Tracker is a good option here for graveyard hate? I can see it being good in a long game and possibly early game shutting out stuff like a Vengevine or 2 with a creature on the board that can get bigger and filter lands. The downside is the amount of mana it needs to work where as RIP, Cage and Relic dont require as much mana commitment.
The fact that it is a two turn process puts me off as a graveyard answer, as it will need to survive a turn unless you hit it off a CoCo. Against Dredge, Death's Shadow and Storm sometimes two cards isn't enough to fully disrupt them, I like the panic option of a RiP or Relic to shut down those decks. Definitely more synergy/utility than the other options though.
Could anyone suggest in which direction i should upgrade my deck? Thanks for any help in advance.
I highly recommend taking a look at the mono white and green white aggro lists posted in the primer here. There's also a large list of creature options along with the pros and cons of each creature so you can decide on what direction to go.
Probably better than Sin Collector in Black / Rainbow builds? Has flying, and can come down on turn 2 (even without a dork) ahead of Anger of the Gods or Karn. Only temporary exiling, though. I might try running 3 in the SB.

Came here to post this.
Not sure whether it replaces Sin Collector or works in tandem with him (probably via a mix of main and sideboard slots), but either way this is looking like a pretty sweet addition!
Edit: After further thought, the choice between Freebooter and Collector isn't going to be an easy one. Freebooter is pretty bad against sweepers compared with Collector, for instance. Collector's CMC 3 isn't necessary slower with 6/8 mana dorks in most lists that run him, either--and his base power of 2 is relevant surprisingly often.
Thanks for the replies, some interesting thoughts. Definitely think the 2 drop problem is one that does impact the Humans list, with the exception of maybe Bant Red, which seems to have the most promising alternatives.

Path & Champ must be added to your list anyway.
I highly recommend taking a look at the mono white and green white aggro lists posted in the primer here. There's also a large list of creature options along with the pros and cons of each creature so you can decide on what direction to go.
I agree here. Id also say Mirran Crusader is a must somewhere in your 75, doesnt have to be main but this thing is really good when it lands/sticks.
