Playing millions of cards every turn... Slowly and systematically obliterating any chance my opponent has of winning... Clicking the multitude of locking mechanisms into place... Not even trying to win myself until turn 10+ once I have nigh absolute control... Watching my opponent desperately trying to navigate the labyrinthine prison that I've constructed... Seeing the light of hope fade and ultimately extinguished in an excruciatingly slow manner... THAT'S fun Magic.
We have 2-3 users that are dramatically making this thread incomprehensible and non-productive for anyone else to possibly join in the discussion. This needs to change.
Every time I see [ktkenshinx] post in here, I get the impression of a stern dad walking in on a bunch of kids trying to do something dumb and just shaking his head in disappointment.
Near Mint: The same as Slightly Played, but we threw some Altoids in the box we stored it in to cover up the scent of dead mice. Slightly Played: The base condition for all MTG cards. This card looks OK, but there’s one minor annoying ding in it that will always irritate and distract you whenever you draw it. Moderately Played: This card looks like it survived the Tet Offensive tucked inside the waistband of GI underwear. It may smell like it, too. Heavily Played: This card looks like the remains of Mohammed Atta’s passport after 9/11. It may be playable if you double-sleeve it to stop the chunks from falling out. The condition formerly known as "Washing Machine Grade" Damaged: This card is the unfortunate victim of a Mirrorweave/March of the Machines/Chaos Confetti/Mindslaver combo.
[M]aking counterfeit cards is the absolute height of dishonesty. Ask yourself this question: Since most people...are totally cool with the use of proxies...what purpose do [high] quality counterfeit cards serve?
R1 loss vs temur delver, a sweet deck with bedlam reveler and traverse the ulvenwald. G1 my turn one vial got disrupting shoaled and i wasn't able to keep up with my opponent's threat. Reveler is very strong! G2 went better for me, got a bunch of flyers ftw. G3 i lost to ancient grudge on my vial, followed by blood moon, followed by anger of the gods. I made a few misplays, i lost an arbiter for nothing which was keeping traverse in check, but these 3 plays were devastating.
R2 win vs taking turn, G1 thalia + upkeep vial wisp on my opponent's lands got there, since all the time warps are sorcery, G2 thalia again plus gaddock teeg locked the game for me.
R3 win vs thing in the ice jeskai, G1 made a few misplays but my multiple flickerwisps on thing and pyromancer ascension got there, G2 got a bad draw with tripe noble, saw very few creatures. G3 mindcensor + thalia slowed my opponent down a lot, enough for me to win.
R4 win vs jund, won with value G1, G2 we were hellbent and he had liliana of the veil. I hate being on that spot but i eventually dealt with her. My opponent then drew kalitas, traitor of ghet while low on life with a dark confidant. I dealt with it as well and my opponent got scavenging ooze, again gaining life, again avoiding death with bob, and killing me shortly after. G3 my opponent tapped out for kalitas, on my turn i tec edge and GQ his 2 red mana lands, he had no basic mountains, as expected, and i got good draw steps ftw.
For the next tournament i wanted to try new thalia and more mindcensor, focusing more on mana denial. Also stonecloaker is super sad without targets, so i cut it.
R1 loss to b/w eldrazi ad taxes, G1 i forgot my vial trigger two times because i wasn't focused, and it cost me the game. G2 i got overwhelmed by eldrazi displacer.
R2 win vs reckless zoo, lost G1 depsite my opponent mulling to 5, G2 and 3 my opponent made terrible plays and gave me the games.
R3 win vs kiki chord, G1 my opponent kept a greedy hand and got punished, G2 my mana denial destroyed his deck.
R4 win vs nacatl burn, G1 lost with a poor hand, G2 and 3 i got to stabilize thanks to spellskites from the board. Obstinate baloth (also from the board) nailed the coffin.
Thursday went 2-1
R1 loss vs jund, G1 we were hellbent and i had wisp and oath and my opponent had 4 lands and nothing else. I felt favored, but then he topdecked huntmaster of the fells, i topdecked land making his werewolf flip, killing my wisp, and then he drew kalitas, traitor of ghet, the game was locked at that point . G2 i got a poor draw, no path in both games, and he got a great one. Playing vs jund is very topdeck dependant and therefore can be a bit frustrating when the gods of fortune aren't on your side...
R2 win vs budget affinity, G1 my opponent mulled to 5 and lost, G2 he got Ghirapur Æther Grid and killed my triple hierach triple wisp draw. G3 i drew both my spellskites with multiple oath'ing to block my opponent's double etched champion. Flyers and qasali pridemages got there.
Friday made a few changes to my sideboard. Trying out mirran crusader because, i had nothing to side in vs jund. Also testing magus of the moat for decks that go wide. Seems better than silent arbiter, it doesn't die to artifact hate and allows me to in with flyers. Arbiter will become linvala, keeper of silence when i can afford her.
R1 win vs tron, was a massacre, both game GQ quickly became strip mine, and multiple witness triggers sealed the deal.
R2 draw vs soul sisters splash black. I feel like i can't ever finish a match in time vs this deck. G3 i kept getting value from flickerwisping and my opponent kept gaining life. At the end i had a silent arbiter with a gigantic scooze and my opponent was under the abyss. Not sure making the game drag even longer with silent arbiter is what i want in this matchup...
What does everyone think of my new plan, I call it "Lose ever creature match, win every non-creature match":
It needs more Vryn Wingmare in order to live up to its name.
Judge's Familiar also comes to mind. It'll help protect your Spirit of the Labyrinth so you could safely lock your opponent out with Geier's. Looks like fun to me

I have crammed in two selfless spirits into my W/b Eldrazi deck myself. I like them. Also your list might be decent against Affinity game one. Selfless Spirit does trade in the air and protects against Whipflare. The only reason I don't got full four off the back is because I like a Forge Tender/Selfless split, with BFT out of the side, at least until I get more playtime in with the changes.
I was gonna play 2 plains and 2 forest, i swapped a plains for eiganjo castle (for both thalias and gaddock teeg in the board) and i am wondering if the second forest would be better as the legendary land. It doesn't have the same impact as castle but i'm willing to take every few advantages i can get, since the opportunity cost is so low. I mean +1/+1 isn't great but in combat it could make the difference between chumping, trading or surviving the combat...

Like every other analysis involving nonbasic lands, the arguments go something like this:
All of those points are valid, so it comes down to what your metagame and the rest of your list look like. If you're overexposed to Blood Moon or Fulminator Mage, then it's an easy thing to cut in favor of a basic Forest. If you're feeling greedy and you don't expect the negatives to outweigh the lines of play you get access to, then you should definitely run it.
I typically don't run Okina, because it's not one of the more important nonbasics in my list, and I want to keep my exposure to Blood Moon to a minimum. But given I switch metagames fairly often, the actual answer is something like "I would rather lose because I didn't have Okina, than lose because my opponent drops a Blood Moon."

Ok so now tat i finally got the new thalias online and selfles spirit I plugged them into a lot of my existing decks and see what I liked the most. the decks i currently play are ono white taxes, mono white eldrazi taxes, bw eldrazi taxes, bw lingering taxes, gw eldrazi taxes, and gw taxes. prior to the new additions i like the gw eldrazi taxes the most, after adding the cards in I think i like the NON-eldrazi gw version the best very versatile fast and a bunch of answers to just about anything. I thought I would be pretty underwhelmed with the selfless spirits but the opposite happened and I have always liked it when it comes up, give a bit of insurance, while still putting pressure on opponent. here is the list i am currently running.
Well, i'm tempted to just use selfless spirit in my G/W list as well. In addition to the protection, i makes our bunch of 2/2s strong in combat (team blocking is nice with it) and it just provides value with eternal witness.
I was using this list before ENM, what should I cut for add Selfless Spirit and Thalia 2.0?
PRobably I'll cut Judge's Familiar for Selfless Spirit, but i have no idea about what to cut for add Thalia... Finks?
This is an interesting version of death and taxes i have been messing around with and has actually been doing pretty good despite originally created for fun. It uses a max amount of flyers many of which have flash to tempo the opponent out of the game playing much mare draw go than other builds. Probably we be even better with blue splash but i do not yet have the mana-base for blue splash.
I know the 3x only flickerwisp is usually major no go (please spare the puppies,) but with the 3x restoration angel and the 3x stoneclaoker while trying to go on the flash plan seemed correct at the time. This version has been performing well and with some more tweaking could become very competitive, just throwing the current list out to help other brewers.
Jendo brought up an interesting card in streaming the other night. Blessed alliance seems like an interesting card. It gains life, untap said creatures and acts as impromptu removal. I think it can most closely be compared to dromoka's command.
Blessed alliance
Pro: easily castable in any list, can choose all three modes for the right mana cost, can be used proactively or reactively for life gain, gets around the Hail Mary tap function of cryptic command, eliminates big nasty attackers and doesn't require a comparable creature to do so, life gain effect can spoil combo decks that go off and cut it a little too close.
Cons: can't protect your creatures from pyroclasm/anger/bolt, two mana only gets one mode, doesn't act as tempo enabler, requires creature to be attacking and opponent gets to choose which one to sac.
Dromoka's command
Pro: can protect our creatures from damaged based spells, can enable a tempo uptick with one mode, two modes for two mana, can act as enchantment removal, great against merfolk as it destroys spreading seas and acts as removal,
Cons: requires green mana, two colored mana makes it difficult to cast especially on the curve, damage prevention must be cast reactively and the card as a whole is better cast that way, the previous two combine to make it perhaps too slow for burn and affinity where it should excel, requires a comparable creature to act as removal
Your success in playing dnt/hatebears is determined largely by your ability to read and prepare for the meta that you will be playing in. Furthermore, it has an absolutely brutal learning curve. Expect to lose; a lot.
I don't care much for Dromoka's Command in Modern, the reason being that options #3 and #4 can be both cancelled by a well placed Lightning Bolt or Path To Exile, which would probably be a 2 for 1 for your opponent.
If you're using Dromoka's command proactively in a removal heavy environment then you're doing it wrong.

Guys, talking about Blessed Alliance do you realize that it's impossible to play only one mode? Or the 1st and 3rd? You have to pay 6 mana if you want the 1st and 3rd effect. So it seems that the card is the total crap to me.

Tonite is an important stream for me! Your attendance will be greatly appreciated. Afterwards, I will publish a primer for UW Death And Taxes here on the forums. I must say that the blue splashes has some wonderful applications. I spent a week struggling with understanding how to best utilize it but believe I have found some answers.

R3 win vs esper control. First time i beat this deck, yay! Gaddock teeg from the board did overtime, it negated supreme verdict, secure the wastes, cryptic command, elspeth, sun's champion and sphinx's revelation, not bad . Thalia, heretic cathar was also mvp.

R3 loss to «jund». Was a special version of jund with no liliana of the veil, no dark confidant. Instead he played distended mindbender, kitchen finks, eternal witness and main deck kozilek's return. Jund is already 50/50 but this version is better vs my deck, maybe. Lost G3 to fulminator mage on my eiganjo castle (apparently there is a cost to playing the card instead of a plains), and the me not drawing enough colored sources. My mana base let me down this game. Happens once in a while, oh well...
So i will keep practicing for a bunch of upcoming pptqs next week.
