i wrote a short article about Eldrazi and Taxes in my blog, maybe you check it out and give some feedback.
It contains a matchup guide against Merfolk and some general thoughts about the deck.
Hi folks, is WR Taxes a doable thing nowadays or is the black just too good not too include? Wanted to run a spicy yet more consistent Death and Taxes build and a Red splash seems to be up my alley.
I wouldn't say black is "too good not to include" as a lot of players here (myself included) prefers the mono-white version. But as far as splashes go I supppose black is to-go atm, yes. Sorry just a detail ~
As for red splash, I don't think we can mimic legacy DnT's success with it without Recruiter of the Guard, but there are some interesting options. I'd start out with Dire Fleet Daredevil. It turned out to be too errant for legacy but I imagine it's slighly better in modern. A small rundown of some interactions: Stealing Snap's targets with vial on 2, deny Faithless Looting/Lingering Souls flashbacks, gain CA with cheap removal, Thoughtseizeing the BGx player back. And that first strike is actually very relevant nowadays. Other card that are potentially good is Magus of the Moon, and for sb Hazoret the Fervent, Wear//Tear, and Abrade.
I'd love some feedback if you decide to go for it!
If it were Toughness instead of Power (basically, if it could hit Flickerwisp) then it would be interesting to try. As it is now, I don't think D&T wants it, or at least, not without changing our top end cards.
That said, your WU Spirit & Taxes or Wescoe's GW Value Town may want this.
I'm digging it. As mentioned it's awkward that it can't get you Flickerwisp, but still have about 17-19 targets depending on flex spots, so should be consistent enough I believe. And it's flickerable to boot!
If only we had another good hatebear at 2 cmc or so it would be perfect, but I'm still going to test it as a 2-of upon release.
Like others said it is worth a try, but I don't think we have enough hits. According to Frank Karsten's article on CoCo which digs 6 deep, 22 possible hits is the optimal minimum with a 5% chance of failure. Most DnT decks, as already said, will have only 16-19 hits which would leave a decent fail rate for the card. Now maybe if it was a search of entire library or toughness instead of power like (or just plain old) Recruiter of the Guardit would be worth it. You would just have to give up to many good cards like resto and wisp to have enough hits.
@FitzRolf I play with red splash and PK Nalaar are beasts. The other cards not that good or versatile. But with red splash, you gain a lot of good options in sideboard (Wear/Tear/Good Chandra/Outpost Siege/Forked Bolt/Lightning Bolt/Ajani Vengeant/Lightning Helix/Bonfire of the Damned)
I'm not sure about maindeckable. Walking ballista still sees modern play as does Liliana of the last hope and izzet staticcaster. I try not to run too many 1 toughness creatures and I will probably stick to selfless spirit as my 2/1 flyer of choice. Maybe if Ironworks combo and hollow one and angler decks are all seeing play, but selfless spirit is good in almost every matchup, and Contrite Cleric is worse in the matchups where it is good than RIP. I would certainly play it in spirits, just not D&T. I am sort of interested in Shield Mare though. It is burn hate at a different cmc so you can sideboard without wrecking your curve and it isn't dead vs zoo and other aggro decks. I probably will never play more than 1, but I can see a reason to slip a copy into the side when constructing a flexible sideboard. What are peoples thoughts on Mistcaller in the Wu eldrazi and taxes build? It's not containment priest, but coco, chord, vial and lingering souls all see a good amount of play and at it's worst it is removal if you have a flicker wisp or eldrazi displacer.

I agree about Contrite Cleric it is far worse then the other GY hate options and selfless spirit is a better creature in that slot.
Shield Mare interested me as well but I think the issue is that it will be slightly not good enough. At 3 cmc it comes down late against burn, they can just ignore it since it doesn't gain life when blocking or have lifelink. Unless you had a blink effect to quickly gain 6 life or more I think other cards are better in that slot. I could be wrong though.
Mistcaller and WU in general are cool. Better then Mausoleum Wanderer in a number of match ups. The removal idea with flicker effects you point out is sweet. Also just a correction to your comment it wouldn't effect lingering souls as it says "nontoken".
Good catch on lingering souls. I will still try the horse though. I have played finks out of the sb before as a more flexible anti burn card and since burn has a better manabase these days I don't find myself cracking ghostquarters aggressively against them so I usually leave in 2 restoration angels. If you can get to the point where you are blinking this you can quickly lock them out of the game. I usually just try to race burn before they draw enough to finish me but just pumping out lifegain ends the game faster. Obviously it is worse than firewalker, but firewalker doesn't do anything vs merfolk and other aggro decks.

Fully agree. 1 maybe 2 blinks (if things get really bad) would be all it takes to lock burn out and is a far more versatile option which is important for sideboard cards.
The new card Isolate looks like it should be good, but Im at a loss for what important cards it hits besides death's shadow. Most of the good 1cmc spells are instants and sorcerys.

I recently had a baby and was locked out of salvation and couldn’t dedicate time to get it resolved. I’m aware that there are broken links in the primer and I’ll plan on having a full fix after ban announcement and m19 spoiler season ends.
Where can i look foward to learn how to play/sideboard against some match ups, for example today i played against affinity and got hit for 10 turn 3 and it got me confused if this deck still works that well, is sad when a flying threat destroy ur whole gameplan

Actually,it is slightly favored to dnt and gets better depending of your splash (or no splash). What is your list?

Legacy: Death'n'Taxes
Anything running Eldrazi doesn't want it: too many 3+ power creatures. Mono-white D&T has Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Leonin Arbiter, Thraben Inspector and Blade Splicer. Assuming 4 of each (which is not a given), it only has 16 targets out of 60 cards.

Yeah, if Inspector and Copter taught us anything, it's that white getting more draw/filtering with a body is at least worth testing.
