Any reason for not running the 4th Thalia, Guardian? Otherwise, looks good!
I am intrigued by the 2 Dryad Militants in addition to 4 Inspectors. Might have to test something like that out. May try 3 Inspector, 2 Militant, and find a cut with a Serra Avenger or something.
Only went 3-3 at the PPTQ. Made last minute change going to a stock death and taxes list since i saw a lot of scapeshift decks around I wanted tec edge over temple and I am much more experienced with the lines of the stock list. if a couple things fell slightly different could have gone x-0, but it is what it is.
Match 1 naya burn(0-2)
Both games he had multiple searing blaze effects and was a turn or so faster than me.
Match 2 Esper walkers (2-0)
Game 1 - was a grind working through his elspeth knight errant tokens and lingering souls tokens but I got through for the win.
Game 2 he kept a 1 lander so when he missed 2ns land drop i cast thalia, then he missed again I cast arbiter he cast fetch I cast ghost quarter non-fetch land.
Match 3 Grixis Death's Shadow (1-2) all 3 games were grinds
Game 1- I get there with a path and alpha swing
game 2- he gets a long game angetr one the gods wince I had to aplly a good amount to the board to stabilize his side of the board
game 3- it comes down to he has 2 deaths shadow (neither lethal) I play mirran crusader eh down ticks his liliana, the last hope mills a snapcaster as chump blocker. I get resto angel to chump block one deaths shadow but he can down-tick lili again to get snap back to block land I top deck a land.
Match 4 Scapeshift (2-1)
Game 1 he combos out even through early mindcensor he killed eventually
game 2 he had a lot of ramp and no action
Game 3 i keep him low enough with taxes and tec edges to finish it out.
Match 5 UR Storm (2-0)
Both games I have multiple thalia's he he never gets an electromancer or baral.
Match 6 Scapeshift (2-1)
Game 1 I win pretty easily
Game 2 and 3 he gets good value off of anger (game 3 I get mark of asylum the turn after) and combos bme off game 2 titan and chameleon colossus beat down with valakut able to kill my creatures. Both game 2-3 I had 2x tec edge but they had plenty of basics and game 3 I never got 4th land (or 2nd white)
Even wit the not great record, this deck is still very powerful and I have all the faith in it. With slightly different draws on my side or opponent's could have been much better outcome its just the way variance falls some times.

Interested to see how that works out for you. I've tried O-Ring, even Cast Out before, but seemed too slow/mana intensive. What are your main reasons for O-Ring?
With the etb on the stack you flicker. Let flicker resolve then with new etb on the stack you flicker again and so on. When you are done flickering you let things resolve exile a card under Sculler and the rest forever. On phone so took some short cuts. Hope this helps.
I know I can respond to tidehollow scullers etb effect on the stack to permanently exile a card.
And I know i can do it multiple times with, say, Eldrazi Displacer. But I dont understand how the latter works.
Could someone please explain as precise as possible?
And also, should I keep priority?
Thanks!
Hope I have this right:
1. Tidehollow resolves, ETB effect (1st triggered ability) goes on stack.
2. With ability on stack, hold priority, activate Displacer ability.
3. Tidehollow LTB effect (2nd triggered ability) goes on stack.
4. Tidehollow LTB effect (2nd triggered ability) resolves (no card to return).
5. Displacer ability resolves, Tidehollow 'blinks', triggers ETB effect (1st triggered ability).
6. Repeat 2-5 as many times as you want cards exiled forever.
7. Resolve most recent Tidehollow ETB effect trigger (1st triggered ability) - this one will be exiled under Tidehollow.
8. Resolve all other Tidehollow ETB effect triggers (1st triggered ability).
9. Cards exiled with Tidehollow's ability (except the last) will be gone forever, since LTB triggers already resolved.
10. Opponent hopefully has no nonland cards in hand.
If you do this 3 times, exiling 2 cards permanently, this is the order of how the stack resolves for these portions to show why those cards get exiled forever:
Tidehollow LTB (2nd time - no card to return, card not chosen yet)
Tidehollow LTB (1st time - no card to return, card not chosen yet)
Tidehollow ETB (3rd time - choose no card, or card will return when Tidehollow LTB)
Tidehollow ETB (2nd time - choose card, exiled forever, LTB trigger already resolved)
Tidehollow ETB (1st time - choose card, exiled forever, LTB trigger already resolved)
This is close.
1) Sculler resolves, ETB (henceforth ETB1) ability is placed on the stack.
2) With ETB1 still on the stack, hold priority, and activate Displacer's ability targeting Sculler.
3) Pass priority, hopefully Displacer's ability resolves.
4) If Displacer's ability resolves, Sculler will leave the battlefield and then return to the battlefield with ETB1 still on the stack. Sculler's LTB trigger (henceforth LTB1) and its ETB trigger (henceforth, ETB2) will be placed on the stack (in the order of its owner's choosing) above the ETB1 trigger.
5) Pass priority, so that ETB2 and LTB1 can resolve.
6) When ETB2 resolves, you will be forced to remove a nonland card from your opponent's hand (valid target), and that card will be returned once Sculer leaves the battlefield (henceforth, LTB2).
6) When LTB1 resolves, but there will be no card to return, since ETB1 is still on the stack.
7) Pass priority, so that ETB1 can resolve.
8) ETB1 resolves, exiling a nonland card permanently.
Importantly, your opponent will need to have at least 2 nonland cards in hand for tricks like this to work. You'll never be able to permanently exile their last card in hand. That last card will always be returned once Sculler leaves the battlefield. However, you can soft-lock your opponent during his or her draw step by activating Displacer twice (6 total mana) targeting Sculler after your opponent has drawn the card. If the stack is ordered properly, your opponent will be forced to exile one of theirr cards, and the other will always remain under Sculler. It's a soft-lock because your opponent can cast any instant-speed card (likely removal) they find, and that's going to disrupt the plan.
Just to be clear, you can't "choose no card". Sculler's ETB trigger isn't a "may" ability. If you have at least one legal target, you must select one.
Playing millions of cards every turn... Slowly and systematically obliterating any chance my opponent has of winning... Clicking the multitude of locking mechanisms into place... Not even trying to win myself until turn 10+ once I have nigh absolute control... Watching my opponent desperately trying to navigate the labyrinthine prison that I've constructed... Seeing the light of hope fade and ultimately extinguished in an excruciatingly slow manner... THAT'S fun Magic.
We have 2-3 users that are dramatically making this thread incomprehensible and non-productive for anyone else to possibly join in the discussion. This needs to change.
Every time I see [ktkenshinx] post in here, I get the impression of a stern dad walking in on a bunch of kids trying to do something dumb and just shaking his head in disappointment.
Near Mint: The same as Slightly Played, but we threw some Altoids in the box we stored it in to cover up the scent of dead mice. Slightly Played: The base condition for all MTG cards. This card looks OK, but there’s one minor annoying ding in it that will always irritate and distract you whenever you draw it. Moderately Played: This card looks like it survived the Tet Offensive tucked inside the waistband of GI underwear. It may smell like it, too. Heavily Played: This card looks like the remains of Mohammed Atta’s passport after 9/11. It may be playable if you double-sleeve it to stop the chunks from falling out. The condition formerly known as "Washing Machine Grade" Damaged: This card is the unfortunate victim of a Mirrorweave/March of the Machines/Chaos Confetti/Mindslaver combo.
[M]aking counterfeit cards is the absolute height of dishonesty. Ask yourself this question: Since most people...are totally cool with the use of proxies...what purpose do [high] quality counterfeit cards serve?
Any reason for not running the 4th Thalia, Guardian? Otherwise, looks good!
Can't speak for tlhunter07, but I cut the card to down to 3 copies a few years ago as the 5% loss of chance of having it in my opener was preferable to repeatedly log-jamming my hand with it mid-late game.
Current tricky bit for me is deciding whether it's best
“Modern has provided us a non-rotating format that is far more accessible than Legacy or Vintage, but still retains many of the qualities that people enjoy in those formats—such as a more stable metagame, the ability to play and tweak the same deck week after week, and simply a much more powerful card pool than Standard.”
- Sam Stoddard, “Developing Modern” (June 21, 2013) (by means of Sheridan Lardner, "Fixing Modern: Defining Format Mission (March 16, 2016))
This last weekend the Grand Prix São Paulo has been here and I decided to play the main event even though I'm not a competitive player. And for that, I decided to play with an accessible deck and I consider it VERY massive, which is the mono white version of Death & Taxes. In fact, everything I do and did was based on the comments of the people here of Salvation.
Without further ado, as I recall, it was a very, very exhausting and exhausting weekend, so I can not remember everything, just a few matches (mainly for the top decks that made me win). I finished day 1 with 6/3 which qualified me for day 2, in which I did not go as well as I wanted and closed 3/3, totaling 9/6 overall. From 12xx participants, I took a 201st place
1st Game: Affinity (0 -1)
"There's not much to say, just the worst and last deck I'd like to face." My opponent came with very good hands and in both games an Etched Champion became a nightmare.
0 - 2
2nd Game: Living End (1-1)
- The first Street Wrath cycled made me imagine that it could be a Grixis Death Shadow, but the second cylcing made me sure it was a Living End. It was a game that was already prepared, since my friend has and already knew how to handle. I do not remember all the details, but in all games Thalia and Leonin Arbiter were great keys to victory, but when Mirran came, the game was quieter.
2- 1
3rd Game: Jund in Death Shadow (2-1)
- In the first magic of the opponent (Fetch, Blood Crypt IoK) already made me afraid, in the second round of it already came a Dark Confidant and already knew that it was the Jund. I always faced this match with one of the most complicated and horrible ones for me (as bad as affinity). I think that by having the main deck Mirran and with the help of standard taxes (Thalia and Leonin) my opponent's life would not be easy. It was 3 games, well balanced, that I was victorious thanks to both taxers and Mirran and Flickerwisp (hitting the air).
2-1
4th Game 8 Rack (2-2)
- I think because it was a winning deck in a big tournament here in the country and have caught a lot of people by surprise, the deck was a good request. Of course for me, it was an incredible beating, no decent side against him and practically prevented from playing, the willingness was to grant as soon as possible after a sequence of: T1 iok, t2, Seize + Ravens Crime, T3 Liliana.
5th Living End Game (3 - 2)
- Another Living End, in this one I was luckier than the first confrontation, even my opponent having cycled many threats, it took a lot to find cascade and ended up losing in it. G2 he was much more aggressive and I had no reaction. In the last game, an incredible sequence of top draws made me have a bigger advantage than him, few cyclings and when he did a Simian on the hardcast, I assumed he was not in a good hand.
2-1
6th Game Control Esper (4-2)
"I have not played a game against a control deck in a while. And despite finding an interesting deck, Thalia and Blade Splicer shined too bright in this match, which made me think of the name of the deck all the time (hehehe)
2-0
7th Game Grixis Shadow (5-2)
"The dreaded deck, which I've been psychologically preparing pretty well against, was also one of the most complicated matches I've ever had. In the g1, just in the first round, the opponent was almost a perfect hand, with 3 Street Wraths cycling, fetch and shock land, leaving his hp very low. My luck was to have the removals in time for his giant DS. G2 he was much more aggressive than the first and gave me no chance at all. In the last game, Mirran and Restoration Angel played too much and led me to victory.
2-1
8th Game Abzan Junk (5-3)
- G1 was practically the opponent, many lingering souls and even worse with 2 Goyfs, Sorin and Liliana. G2 he mulligou to 4 and made it easy for me. G3 would depend again on his initial hand and this lucky luck was not by my side, he closed the game fast, even having taken 1 goyf and some spirits from the table, a maelstrom pulse in two Vials of mine complicated everything
1-2
9th Game Naya Burn (6-3)
- This was the game that would define whether or not to play on day 2 and I confess, friends, that my head was hammering, few hours of sleep, tiredness and hunger made me think to give up and give victory. So I will not say that it was a quiet departure, because it was not so much when it could have been. And I will not mention that Thalia shone too bright here. But, I point out that in both the G1 and G2 my opponent flooded land and helped me a lot. I highlight the Shefet Dunes that made me win the G1.
2-0
Day 2
10th Game RG Valakut (6-4)
- I had never faced and I confess not to be familiar with the deck, and even having broken his Valakut 3, one was enough to kill me (along with a Titan) on the field. Second game was worse, the Valakuts came and my GQ and TE did not.
0-2
11th Game Affinity (6-5)
"I do not need to talk too much. It starts again against a deck that annoys me too much for the ease of making a table presence as strong and fast as it is. I could not keep myself
0-2
12th Affinity Game (6-6)
- In this I had a little more hope to have a good game, since my opponent was not so explosive against the other affinitys faced previously, even so, platining cranial plating + etched campion killed me, but this already got a better result, second Game race, blade splicer + restoration + copter helped me not to get so ugly like that.
1-2
13th Game BYE (7-6)
14th Game Affinity (8-6)
- When my opponent opened mox + land + ornithopter I almost got up from the table, but since it was not as explosive an opening as in the other games, I ended up insisting and, more for bad draws of him and having kept dubious hands, . I highlight here the G3 in which 3 Restoration angel, coming by flash / vial / vial in two Blade Splicer made me almost jump on the table. Detail: I also had campion etched complicating my life in other games.
15th Game: Counters Company (9-6)
- In closing, already knowing that I had nothing more to achieve nor to aim for, but for the fun and everything, I faced a deck that, despite knowing the mechanics and some parts of the combo, had not seen it in action. The first game could count on the opponent's extreme bad luck in using 3 CoCo and only one have come creature (birds lol). Victory.
Post side, he was faster and I did not have removals to take the pieces of him. The last game was the most interesting and funny of all the games I played. The match was fierce, he was with a Spells Quelle who had taken a BA from me, thus preventing him from losing a KotR from the table. The game was balanced, he had an EW, Spell Queller, 2 Noble and 1 Birds in play and 3 lands. I was with a Leonin Arbiter, blade Splicer and Mirran. When it happened to me, I did an RA and duplicated the card and when I went to make the lethal attack for him (on the back he would kill me, possibly) using a path in the Spell Queller, taking out a blocker, he answered me with a Chord of Calling three. Resolved, he took another SQ and picked up my path, but to my luck and bad luck, a judge was passing, saw the play, stopped and warned us of his miss play: "Okay, you did a Chord for 3, right? How are you going to pay? "So we touched that Leonin was there, he did not have the 2 extra to pay and all the subsequent play he had was canceled. The judge warned us, had the play back to the point where he would do the magic and the same will fail. He warned him why and for me for not having trigged Leonin's ability. This all made it easier for me, because the first and only SQ took the path, I got back to BA and I used it to gain 4 life points and finish the game on lap! In the end, we ended up laughing at the situation
2-1
Guys, as said, was my first championship at an extreme level like this one and in an international degree, I know that was not the best performance possible, but I really enjoyed the performance of the deck, even without Horizon Canopy and with a sideboard that in the end proved itself Not as sure as she could. My final considerations:
Shefet Dunes: It was a great option for the Mono version and I assure you that it is a good request to use at least 2 copies MD
Mirran: I used 3 in MD and I do not regret it. Side out only against the same Naya Burn and Affinitys.
I think I thought a lot to do the Side In, something that I need to improve (and VERY) from now on and I took it as a lesson to put and put 3 Stony Silence from the side (and maybe a Kataki too). Anyway, sorry for the size of the post, but I had promised some members that I would do it.
(Again, Thanks for everyone who comented in this thread, help me a lot as Death and Taxes player, you have no idea how much).

If you place text, decklists, etc. between
and
tags, it won't appear unless clicked on. For example,
Here's some hidden text.
would yield this:
Here's some hidden text.
This is good for reducing the amount of space occupied by longer posts or decklists. If you want to include your own text in the tag, you can do it this way:
, so
Here's some hidden text.
would give you this:
Here's some hidden text.
This is an effective way to clean up and organize long posts and event reports.

Makes sense. I usually have those concerns with Legendary Creatures, but she's such a removal magnet, I haven't really run into that problem. And I think my reasoning is I always want her out in games where she's relevant (most matchups) and if she doesn't have much effect, she gets sided out in G2/G3 anyway.

I almost never side out Thalia, but I often end up with unplayable copies in-hand.
As is often the case with this deck, YMMV/ESID/your experience may be different from mine. It's not uncommon for people to go as low as 2 copies, build depending. I've always felt that was a touch extreme, but 3 has been a nice balance for me.

Round 1 0-2 vs Eggs/KCl combo with tron.
Never seen this iteration before. Game 1 I had vial, Inspector, Flickerwisp, path 3 lands. Lost on turn 4. This game I GQd a Tower and she had another tower in hand of course. Always kill the non tower land...
Game 2 I mulliganned aggressively to try to hit Stony Silence/yard hate/land hate. 6 card hand was Inspector, Arbiter, flickerwisp, 3 lands (1 was GQ). I cant mulligan that right? I hit her tron land without her fetching and she went off turn 4. It was gross.
Round 2 opponent no showed. Maybe he didnt do his taxes.
Round 3 2-0 vs Grixis Control. Game 1 I just went off with Vial, Thalia, Flickerwisp, Resto, golems, etc. Game 2 I destroyed all of my opponents red and black sources with 3 GQs and 2 Tec edges. He only had 2 islands while I had lethal It was beautiful.
Not sure if Ill play the deck again (normally on Abzan) but if I have a change of heart, Ill update how I do again. Thanks for everyones help.
Guys, a theorical question regarding sideboard. When do you side out Vials?
I side out vials against Dredge, Burn, Affinity, Storm, Ad Nauseam, Tron (not the eldrazi one
I disagree siding out Vial against Storm and Ad Naus. Pressure is excellent in those matchups, and Vial helps provide that additional pressure in the midgame to close out faster. You need to give them the fewest number of turns possible; otherwise, they will find a way to power through disruption.
Vial is also really important against those strategies to deny them of resources with Flickerwisp. Having the ability to blink a Baral or Goblin Electromancer for the storm player's entire turn usually can prevent them from going off that turn, and sometimes denying a land or blinking a Phyrexian Unlife against Ad Naus can buy you the extra turn you need to win.

UWR Control
BR Hollow One
BG The Rock
Just to be clear, you can't "choose no card". Sculler's ETB trigger isn't a "may" ability. If you have at least one legal target, you must select one.

1 Unravel the Æther

Ahh, good point, forgot it's not a 'may'.
Cool, I'm sure I'll see you there and maybe you can give me some tips.
BG The Rock
As is often the case with this deck, YMMV/ESID/your experience may be different from mine. It's not uncommon for people to go as low as 2 copies, build depending. I've always felt that was a touch extreme, but 3 has been a nice balance for me. You're welcome! Historically, whenever I bring in Stony Silence.
Currently, I'm trying out Fragmentize in its place (plus one slot) as some others have suggested, so in that case, never.
The benefit of playing the card in this deck is simply too good.

Im new to the deck, but shouldnt you board out Vials vs removal heavy decks like Grixis Shadow and BGx?
