Are the majority of people still running 4x Master of Waves? With all of the removal available in Modern, I have a terribly hard time ever getting one to stick for more than a turn. I've been thinking about dropping 1 or 2x to make room for Smuggler's Copter. This would reduce my curve by a bit (I'm still on 19 lands, so that's relevant for me), add more draw / looting, can be cast off of colorless lands, gives some evasion, and is a strong early threat that has to be answered by my opponent. Of course, it doesn't work with Vial, doesn't add U for devotion, isn't a Merfolk, can be hit by artifact hate, etc. so it's not perfect. Just wonder what most people have been thinking. I still love MoW when he sticks around. It's just a bummer to put out tokens just to see him get wiped and have them all go away every...single...time. Here's what I'm going to try out tonight in some casual games at my LGS:
Take this with a large dose of salt since I'm only a a couple months back into the game after 15 years off, but I've gone from 4 in the deck to 2. And if I have to sideboard, he's the first thing I pull out.
It's not like I don't see lightning bolts and such but they're easily outnumbered 10:1 by Fatal Push/Path to Exile, etc. I haven't given up on him entirely as if he comes out and there's no instant removal, that's pretty much game. But it's not happenening very much.
I'm still running the 4 Master of Waves to good effect. The last few leagues I've played have featured piles of midrange decks (both Shadow and traditional BGX) along with Burn, and the Masters have done lots of work there. Overall, I'd say he's been kept in for about 80% of my matches. I haven't gotten any 5-0s of late, but I've gotten lots of 4-1s, and I feel that my current 75 is strong against the field.
I think it's time to say goodbye to the Master. 3 is the absolute maximum for the current meta. I think our position in the meta share reflects this shift, sadly..
Thanks for the reply! I'm feeling the same recently. I'm going to go -2 MoW +2 Copter for a while and see how it feels. I didn't get to play it last night because when I showed up everyone wanted to play Legacy. I'm never going to say no to that Hopefully next time I'll have a chance to test it out.

Yeah, that's kinda how I'm feeling about it right now. I'm sure part of my problem is small sample size. I don't play MTGO and have only been able to play against the decks at my LGS recently...no major tournaments. But MoW consistently getting axed as soon as I play it feels bad.
You play a lot more than me, so I'll definitely take your word for it. I completely believe that it's still putting in good work. It's been great for me until recently. I think it might just be time for me to play around and see what feels right in my local meta for a bit. Hopefully he'll have a chance to shine for me again!
Strange. According to Modern Nexus, we are the "highest" Tier 2 out there...
When did we get downgraded on this site?

Yep. If you want the latest tier list, I'm part of a project that is posting the numbers on TappedOut. You can also find the sheet on the front page of the primer, under Matchups and Sideboarding.
My LGS has a lot of burn, so I like the 4 Master of waves. On that note, this is my current list:
Merfolk
- 30 Creatures
4 Cursecatcher
4 Harbinger of the Tides
4 Lord of Atlantis
4 Master of the Pearl Trident
4 Master of Waves
4 Merrow Reejerey
2 Phantasmal Image
4 Silvergill Adept
- 20 Lands
2 Cavern of Souls
4 Mutavault
14 Island
- 15 Sideboard
4 Ceremonious Rejection
2 Dispel
2 Hurkyl's Recall
2 Relic of Progenitus
2 Tidebinder Mage
2 Unified Will
1 Kira
As a side note, what does everybody think of splashing black just for 4 Fatal Push? In my above list, I would cut 2 Phantasmal and 2 Vapor Snag for 4 Fatal Push. Would need to change the mana base around too
Changing around the manabase is exactly why I wouldn't do it, honestly. Our mana is good, and that's a plus that not that many decks have. As for the list... it seems fine, but I'm assuming you're operating in a metagame environment low on attrition decks. Otherwise, PhImage and Snag seem less than ideal.
I was just thinking about so called hostile meta and how we "have" to adjust.
And then I looked at http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=15846&f=MO and players are coming with Living End and Dredge at the moment when Grixis Shadow (graveyard) is the best deck, people play more Leyline of the Void, RiP and Relics than ever.
Week later, Grixis Shadow is still the best deck and people came with Affinity in droves: http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=15927&f=MO (5 Affinity in top11 when the top deck is playing Push, K. Command, Terminate, Snapcaster and who knows what in the main).
Does hostile environment even matter?
Should we dump Image or play it just because we feel like we want that effect in the deck, with total disrespect to opponent's plans?
This 75 is geared toward beating the current slate of top decks, which are Shadow, E-Tron, Burn, and Dredge, and it does a good job of that. It's also pretty good against Company combo decks in my experience (I can usually put enough pressure on them such that disrupting them once is enough to win). The sideboard countermagic and graveyard hate also make me strong against combo decks like Living End and Storm, and pretty much any Merfolk 75 does well against traditional BGX, Taxes, or control. The popular decks that I feel I'm softest to are Affinity (3 Rejections is not enough hate), Elves (I have a limited suite of creature interaction), and to a lesser extent Titanshift (I can deal with the Scapeshift plan pretty well, but Primeval Titan is a problem).
I've had success with Tidebinder Mage in the past, to the point where I was actually winning more than 50% of the time. Others have run Gut Shot. Hibernation has always felt massively clunky to me.

Rot, my list is the same you are using. What you think that would be the best Sideboards in a LGS with: Afinnity, Elves, Counters Company, E-Tron, Lantern Control e a few UWx Controls ? Something that can cover almost all of them
