I hear that people bring in Gutshots in the mirror match, what is your opinion on that guys? It only hits 8 creatures, is it because we trim down/keep back Lord of Atlantis so it's easier to connect with Gutshot? Tempo is nice and all but I'm troubled. Should I side in gutshot in merfolk mirror match?
Jeskai Nahiri will occasionally have all of the answers, but by and large, you should have the advantage if you play patiently. How many creatures was each Verdict catching? The Sisters matchup was just bad luck - a normal draw on your part handles them pretty easily.
Tbh, the Soul Sisters matchup isn't spectacular. I don't beat it as often as I'd like. I've often lost to really early Serra Ascendant 6/6 Flying lifelink beats and they usually have Ghostly Prison (sometimes Worship and Wrath of God even) out of the board. It's even more annoying because Master of Waves is actually awful in the face of multiple Soul's Attendant/Soul Warden.

First Supreme got 2 creatures, and the second one got 3....I tried to race him because Nahiri was sitting at 6 counters and he only had 2 cards on hand. I guess the Veredict was a top deck tbh =(
And Soul Sister is very trick matchup...I was totaly surprised my Honor of the Pure + spirit tokens (forgot the name)
It's bad in the sense that it can make it hard to race in the face of Soul's Attendant and Soul Warden. Especially when they have multiples. Padding their life total for the elementals usually isn't worth it. Yes, I agree that you can make enough elementals to make enough big swings to kill them (and having unlimited chump blockers for the Pridemate is nice), but a Serra Ascendant can usually race you. It's pretty easy for them to have by the time you can resolve a master because at the same time they'll also be able to cast Ranger of Eos to find it.
hi guys im a relatively new player (just a few months) i play only on mtgo really ive been searching for my deck and i wanted something 50/50 against the field but also it was important to me that the deck have an active thread bc i mostly play online so im happy to see that you guys are very actice im starting off with rothgar13's list from the primer its the one i like most and looks best to me for mtgo metagame but im not building the deck until i get home tonight so if anyone thinks otherwise feel free to let me know. also looking for some tips and pointers to start with the deck if anyone has any. lastly what are the tidebinder mages for specifically im blanking on their use.
Hows your game against BW Tokens ? I went to my friends house last night to pratice, and I was totally crushed
Its very hard to handle with Blossom and Souls plus the Hymn +1/+1 Vigilance and paths running around and Sorin lol
Even with my sideboard its very dificult, because my lucky is very great and I barelly see any side card =( My faith in Merfolk are shatered
This puzzles me. I find BW Tokens to be one of our easiest matchups. Our guys get bigger quicker, they can't handle islandwalk, their clock is slow, and their removal is limited to strictly Path.
Spell Pierce and Seas (there mana is poor and they cant block with tokens) are devastating cards to face as the B/W tokens player - E-Truth is icing on the cake..
As a BW Tokens player I will echo the sentiment that the Merfolk match up is bad. Playing a wrath is the only way I have pulled off wins against the deck.

Hi yotrixxx, welcome to the Fish school! You're correct in your assumption that my most recent list is MTGO-tuned, as I have recently joined the ranks of Magic Online.

I'm very surprised that you struggled against this matchup. This is one of Merfolk's easiest ones. They don't have much to deal with Spreading Seas and Lords, their clock is slow, and Spell Pierce crushes them. Heck, sometimes you don't even need evasion - just spamming out Lords and going tall is enough to force them into chumpblock mode, at which point they can never build the threat density they need to actually kill you. Bring in Echoing Truth out of the sideboard, and crush them even harder.
My experience on MTGO is very different. I've run into 10 Burn players since I've been on, which is 130 matches. There's a good amount of Infect too, but the sideboarded Dismembers have been enough to get the job done.

Hi yotrixxx, welcome to the Fish school! You're correct in your assumption that my most recent list is MTGO-tuned, as I have recently joined the ranks of Magic Online.
As for Tidebinder Mage, it serves a variety of uses for Merfolk - it makes us stronger against Burn (wraps up a Grim Lavamancer or Monastery Swiftspear), Jund (ditto for Scavenging Ooze or Tarmogoyf) and gives us game against the likes of Titanshift (Primeval Titan is a lot less scary when it can't attack), Elves (you're typically looking to catch an early mana dork or an Elvish Archdruid), or even toolbox creature decks like Kiki Chord and Abzan Company (anything from Kitchen Finks to Wall of Roots).
I'm very surprised that you struggled against this matchup. This is one of Merfolk's easiest ones.
