The eldrazi decks are brutal, went 5-4 at the open with 3 loses to eldrazi. When they get the aggressive hands you can't beat them. Also the R/G version is completely busted against us. Returning my master of waves gives me a bad day. While you can beat the deck if they get a great draw you just die. That being said in this eldrazi meta if you are not on an eldrazi deck your best chances are affinty and merfolk.
Didn't see many of the matches on stream, but it looked like there weren't that many spreading seas played. Our biggest advantage is to flood the eye and temple but it looked like they came too late. I wonder..people who went to the event and played Eldrazi, did you guys run 4-seas? 6? 8 seas? Getting data may help guide how this deck can better combat these stupid decks

Honestly spreading seas feels too slow against them. I wouldn't want more than 6 of those effects. I am interested in the top 8 merfolk but my guess is just 4 spreading seas.
Have you guys seen the top 32? This is eldrazi winter already, we will see a affinity uprising, but wizards really needs to release the bans as soon as possible!!
Reeds list is really akin to dario casati's, which i was already playing - faster and more lord density seems to be the norm!

The real key trait of the deck is the excessive spot removal, which might be appropriate given we have to interact with Eldrazi for 1 mana while deploying other things at the same time.

The gut shot out the board is key imo. Having to spend mana on dismember can make you fall behind against a busted draw. Also against everything but they G/R variants you want to dump everything on the board. The ability to kill a mimic and leave them grasping at straws with a seer seems extremely powerful. As for affinity if it becomes more popular G/R eldrazi will just start smashing it, problem is G/R is the best version against us.
If we start turn 2 Servant (preferably going first), their deck is demoted to a draft deck until it dies. It has to die or they have no chance of winning.
It can be killed by Path (which is good since it ramps us into Waves and there is obv one Path less in their hand for Master) or Dismember (4 life can help us race and the same one less answer).
Gut Shot and K. Return will not kill it (unless combined). It is seriously narrow card, but if 50% plays Eldrazi is it impossible to play 2-3 in the sideboard, just like Recalls?
Just recently started getting back into and got slaughtered by Eldrazi. What is the overall gameplan vs that deck? Is there any tech out there to face them. Not even against RG tron's best starts was I so helpless
Echoing Truth can deal with it too, as well as counter magic, though that may be tougher through discard. And Vapor Snag does seem a little cleaner than Echoing Truth.
Love image. I played a second GPT this weekend and top 8'd again with Fish (first GPT report a couple pages back). Undefeated in the swiss (4-0-2), lost in the finals to Jund. Won my quarter finals match by Imaging a Reality Smasher while at 1 life.
I am now entirely off of Spell Pierce. Card was dead far too often for me to keep it in the main, and likely too dead even for the side. I'm having to side it out in matchups where I normally want counters because my opponents can consistently hold up 2. It's likely being changed to the third Dismember on the main (with 2 - 4 Darkslick replacing Islands), and either a Dispel or Negate on the side. I can't decide which I like more. Negate has the advantage of countering Living End, Damnation, and Wrath, Dispel is more on curve and saves lords. If fish is a good choice this meta I expect to be paired against it and would like to reduce my Island count.
Played in the modern SCG side event today in Louisville. Had a pretty rough result finishing 1-3
ROUND 1- Naya Burn (Won 2-0)
Game 1- He got mana locked and I had the nuts
Game 2- I had Skite on the field and by the time he could get it off the field I was in total control
ROUND 2- Kiki-Chord (Lost 2-1)
Game 1- I got mana locked
Game 2- Opened with a great hand and was able to use spreading seas to completely mess up his mana.
Game 3- He must have drawn a perfect hand because he had an answer to everything I had. My pithing needle's were destroyed instantly as well as my Vials.
ROUND 3- Elves (Lost 2-1)
Game 1- By turn 3 he had 8 creatures on the field
Game 2- He had to mulligan down to 4 and I just was able to overwhelm him with his lack of mana
Game 3- Again, another swarming of the field by turn 3-4. We all know Elves is an extremely tough matchup for us.
ROUND 4- Red Burn (Lost 2-1)
Game 1- I was able to use spreading seas to limit his mana and won a race
Game 2- F*** Ensnaring bridge. I really wasn't prepared for the bridges he had in his sideboard. I had no answer :/
Game 3- He had so much burn in his hand that any creature that touched the field died instantly and he won the race.
Overall I'm happy with the deck. The kiri-chord matchup was interesting. I played against a guy that works with Jeff Hoagland and drove down with him so he knew the deck perfectly. I hated losing the last round to Burn but sometimes that's how the game goes. That's magic Any comments or helpful tips on how to play these matches (especially kiri-chord, elves, and burn) would be greatly appreciated!
I've been back in magic for ~18 months, running Modern burn for about 1 year now. In regards to burn finding a way to play with the big boys---Idk what we can do.
Ensnaring bridge is IMO the best bet, but a lot of games we don't get to 3 lands, or don't do it until late, thoughtknot seer taking it away is just too real.
All of that said, I've long wanted to try something else, never knowing what to pick up. It's always painful when burn runs out of gas. I've always hated playing against affinity, and in my own nerd way feel like that would be the dark side lol.
Eldrazi scares me with ban talk.
In the last few weeks, I've ran against a lot of fish decks, and it's impressed me. Then seeing merfolk hold it's own in the eldrazi world today was really impressive.
I'm going to try to pick up the pieces over the next few weeks and start jamming with it.

Feels much more viable than burn right now.
Welcome! This deck is very fun and powerful. The more you practice with it the better it performs (as with many modern decks) and it is not near as simple to play as it may appear on streams. Sequencing is so important ("Do I turn 1 Mutavault into turn 2 Island and Spreading Seas? Or do I Turn 1 Island into turn 2 Island Lord?") and the better you learn your match-ups the more natural the play will feel. It is a very smooth deck, and our flex slots (Echoing Truth v. Dismember v. Vapor Snag v. Spell Pierce, etc.) provide a lot of play against tougher match ups.
If we start turn 2 Servant (preferably going first), their deck is demoted to a draft deck until it dies. It has to die or they have no chance of winning.

Except it isn't a plan if they are on the play. Not only does dismember or path or bolt out of r/g board wreck that plan, they can thought-knot seer you turn 2 and rip it out of your hand. If they run dismember you spent an entire turn for 4 of their life and half their turn if they tapped out. It is not going to work. Spending life to gain tempo is usually the correct play. This why more experienced players rarely block.
With all the Eldrazi Displacers running around it's important to remember that if they blink your Master of Waves, you don't lose your tokens, you just get more!
