"Merfolk is easily the least respected Tier 2 deck in Modern. It routinely puts up numbers and proves its popularity yet no one wants to rank it higher than Tier 3. I have lots of respect for the fishies and am fully aware that if you overlook this matchup you could easily find yourself Drowned by Spreading Seas and Overrun by Merfolk lords."

"My prediction for the next card to get banned from Modern is either Inkmoth Nexus or Mox Opal."
I think he makes some decent points about us, at least. His matchup listing is pretty close to where I'd put a stock list to be, and I think we can tune our lists a bit to beat some of those 50/50s a bit more often.
Oh i love this Mardudeck in Round1! Looks like a Nightmare for Merfolk though
As we know now, Affinity and Burn are leading the Meta. Followed by a deck i didn't hear(i think Infect, but thats a guess) and Eldrazi.
How would you prepare your sideboard if you want to crush Burn?
If Mardu became a thing I would just switch to an 8seas build. Come at me Ben Stark. Have fun with your islands.
Looking at the PT so far, I swear an 8 Seas Merfolk build would be crushing. Those Eldrazi decks will get absolutely ***** on with 8 mainboard spreading seas effects, same with Mardu/Jund.
Just spitballing, but while 6 or 8 seas seems like a lot, swapping Sea's Claim in FOR Spreading Seas might do a number on Eye of Ugin because we can hit it T1 on the draw. Or maybe a 3/2 split or something.
Of course, overboarding against a match I have never played against a decklist I am not even 100% the contents of seems terrible. Actually I may have played vs. this? Is it BW with Inquisition and Lingering Souls? I lost to it but I badly misplayed (missed lethal attack).
There are many different eldrazi lists.
Some are b/w, b/u or b/r and processor based.
Some are black or mono-colorless and not processorbased.
Some play heartless summoning
Some are more all-in aggro.
Some even play green.
That being said, seas effects seem to be good against all of them.
Seems like a pretty quick deck. Wonder how we match up.
I don't like it. If they had to actually tap the normal requisite number of lands it'd probably be fine, but their sol-lands just outscale us so hard. Also Seas don't seem as disruptive as I'd like, they're not as hamstrung by shutting down a single land the way Tron can (a seas on an eye or temple is usually just -1 mana, a seas on a tron piece represents -4 mana). The rise of this build makes me feel real tempted to try some Magus of the Moons in the SB. Too deep, I know, but it sure is tempting.
Fast mana always has and always will be the most busted thing to do in Magic.

If it becomes a problem, Surgical Extraction plus Ghost Quarters help. Hit their Eyes early. I played Eldrazi last week at FNM, and yes it is a little more resilient than Tron in terms of land hate, but I lost hard to a Blood Moon.
I honestly think 8 Seas poops on this deck. Harbinger is also good in this MU.

I would have brought several in the side at least. Eldrazi is very weak to their Eye getting taken out.
Could you share where you found this out?

Basically we have a big jump in Infect and the new Eldrazi deck.
