So my fallout list is even more viable than before now everyone and their mom are on delver. My buddy Rickster just 3-1ed with is pretty easily a few hours ago.
If you all wanted to know my take on the GP here ya go:
1. Treasure Cruise shouldn't be banned. While I did see delver games I just laughed at how this card took them from the losers seat to the drivers seat, its really no different than top decking a timely wrath or bolt. Truth be told the card thats running amuk right now in modern IS bolt. Its THE reason delver, burn, zoo, twin, american control and giest deck wins are even decks. As such, I still deem it as powerful as bolt and should be respected. But again, we've seen delver decks arent as great as everyone says they are. The beat jund now, and its shaken up the meta single handedly, but they still lose to themselves and other decks pretty hard.
2. The Meta will change again. Siege Rhino had more of an impact than I thought, and I do think its simply showing the meta can, and will, evolve now. Bannings arent necessary. Burn and delver are the best decks? Run lifegain and big unboltable bodies. I wouldnt be suprised to see this be the new "Big deck" only taken away when Infect randomly because awesome to beat it, lol. That being said there a few new things well need to deal with down the road: Big bodies and Life Gain. Its nothing new, our answer still is "path it, keep attacking." but it might mean that we go back to 4 paths main, 2 chained to the rocks sided. Again, not anytime soon, but its a path the meta could take.
3. Dont fear the rhino. Its a color intensive 4 mana big dude. You'll still get in for damage, and you'll still be able to path it. Midrange showed its got a new tool, nothing more.
4. Pods back, and that sucks. Same deal as above. Turns out pod can go Turn 1 ramp dork, turn 2 ramp wall, turn 3 finks, turn it into rhino gain 6. turn 4, rhino it into thrag tusk, gain 5, cast resto angel, gain 5. Total life gained in 2 turns? 16. Oh and they have 2 infinite life combos too. Joy. Its not really news, the pod matchup is hard, but this versions even harder. My list still runs 5 pod hates, so its not really that much of a change, but the pod machine isnt dead. Edit: did the math wrong there, forgot pod mana. A turn later than I said, same life gained.
5. Domain Zoo still has chops, but as I feared, isnt powerful enough to fight off delver. He was 9-0 the first day with a rather stock list, then was 10-5 or 11-4 in the later rounds. I still think you gotta use cruise in the newer lists, but thats just me. I play tested my domain zoo for a while, and hit delver and burn. Burn is rough to say the least, but delver is closer than I thought too. Not digging that the end of games I'm generally at 5 life, and could have lost to an extra bolt, electrolize or forked. That life loss is a thing... So I'm, stickin' to my guns here and saying in a midrange combo meta, domain zoo is better than naya, but in an aggro tempo meta, Id rather have naya. But to end that on a high note, I'd say I've cemented my mana base as 4 wooded foothills, 4 arid mesa, 4 scalding tarn.
6. Cruise and tarmgoyf are fine at the same time. Don't be fooled. The reason scapeshift guy lost was NOT cruise, NOT delver, but goyf. Dude was so prepped for weenies, he lost to a 4 toughness butt. That is THE reason the dudes on top. His goyf preformed fine working with delve. The Junk decks also preformed fine working AGAINST delve. Goyf still delvers, much to people's megrim, but the fact remains. He is a 4 toughness butt with 3-4 power output that cant die to bolt. Until bolt is banned, goyf will still be the best 2 drop you can play, end of story. Also, I'm not suggesting running the two togather unless your domain. Really, I'm not. Just I dont want to hear the Goyf is bad exuse because of delve anymore. Its been proven otherwise.
Also I was seeing that Lightning Bolt is pretty much like how Deathrite Shaman was before it got the ban hammer. The card being good in the beginning, middle, and end of games. Granted Deathrite had a couple other abilities, but it was ban for being to efficient. A case of this could be made for bolt. Granted I don't want to see Lightning Bolt getting banned though.. its just so good!
If I got rid of Elspeth, Knight-Errant I would most likely put the extra Ghor-Clan Rampager back into the main board and another copy of Destructive Revelry back into the sideboard. With a little help with one of Latern's video I was able to add Sejiri Steppe into my deck to help protect my animals from removal. I have to say I like how my deck seems like its constantly evolving for the better. With that said currently will be running Verdant Catacombs in place of Arid Mesa til I get the couple that I need. Sorry for the many posts that I make with the deck, however; I enjoy getting help from people that has play or is playing Zoo. I have hopes of taking this to a bigger tournament such as a 1k or bigger. Thanks you everyone for the help with my deck, in the past, present, and future.
I took Latern's "anti-Delver" list (with a few very minor tweaks) to GP: New Jersey to play in side events (I'm not a Legacy guy and predictably scrubbed out 0-2 drop). There was so much cool stuff to check out that I only ended up playing one Modern "win a box" side event, but I 3-0ed it for the win (and a jackpot box of Khans - 3 searches, 1 foil, and a Dig Through Time). Here's a brief report:
Match 1 - Gr Tron
Game 1 went like clockwork; played threats, burned him out the turn before he could start attacking with his Wurmcoil.
Game 2 I had to grind out. He landed a turn 4 Wurmcoil at about 10 life, with my board being something like Nacatl, Ape. I attacked with just the Nacatl, and he blocked; I Boros Charmed the Nacatl to kill the Wurmcoil. After that, I had to slowly attack into, over, and around the tokens to keep pressuring him without letting him trade too favorably, and got there.
Match 2 - Scapeshift
Game 1 I kept a slower hand and he comboed before I got very close.
Game 2 He was a little short on land, getting stuck on 2 for a few turns. He suspended a land search card, but I had the Mindcensor from the sideboard to flash in, and he died soon after.
Game 3 I have to admit to luck giving me a huge boost. He mulled down to 5, keeping a 1-lander. He stumbled on his land drops again and I just buried him.
This matchup seems tough, as they have so many maindeck cards that are great against us: Bolt, Anger, Cryptic, Sakura Tribe chump blockers. I felt fortunate to win the match.
Game 3 (final) - Jund
Game 1 - He did the Jund thing, trading off with all my guys 1-for-1, until I was topdecking 2/3s and he was topdecking Lilianas and Scoozes.
Game 2 - I did the Zoo thing, playing 2/3s faster than he could answer them. He was forced to use his Lilians defensively as bad Diabolic Edicts, and couldn't stabilize.
Game 3 - Again, he did the Jund thing, but this time I was able to topdeck better. I got a huge Scooze going, and he was chumping with tiny Scoozes and Confidants to stay alive (he was at 5). I whittled him down to his manland, and when he went to block the 4th or 5th lethal attack from the Scooze, I had a Path for it.
So ironically, I didn't play Delver at all; there wasn't even one in the entire 8-man. I sided out the Fallouts every match. Even so, I was happy with the deck. It gets on your opponent fast and if they stumble, they're dead. The only matchup I felt disadvantaged against was Scapeshift, so I might devote a little more sideboard space to it (although I've already got 2x Boros Charm to fight Anger and 2x Mindcensor).
Round 1: Melira Pod 2-0
G1: I get out a Nacatl, bolt his dork, and start swinging in. I drop a few more threats, and he dies to cats and burn.
G2: I keep a sketchy hand with lands and removal for his early creatures. I topdeck like a god and start applying pressure. I drop a Grafdigger’s a turn later, and he succumbs to the beats.
Round 2: Green Nyxthos 2-0
G1: I mull and start off with a Nacatl turn 1. I burn his elf on my turn 2, and start the beats. I eventually get him down to 10, and I have more than enough power to finish him off on the next turn. He drops a Primeval Titan, but I have the Path for it.
G2: I get a Nacatl and a Thalia out and start beating down. I have the removal for his Scooze, and he gets mana-screwed. GG.
Round 3: UR Delver Intentional Draw
We drew to put us both in 1st and 2nd, but we played it out anyways. He beat me in two, but the matches were pretty close. Ended up getting a Flooded Strand and some store credit for my efforts, so not a bad night at all.
If I got rid of Elspeth, Knight-Errant I would most likely put the extra Ghor-Clan Rampager back into the main board and another copy of Destructive Revelry back into the sideboard. If youre running 21 lands you should be fine with elspeth over the 4th rampager. Id use electrickery instead of fallout since your running enough things that die to it.

2-0 RUG Twin
He didn't really do anything game so I put him on RUG delver going to game 2. Sideboard still fine although I didn't bring in Linvala. Game 2 overpowered him with dudes and killed his relevant threats
2-1 4 Color Burn
I get a close game one, with outracing him. Game 2 he gets me, I actually bring in blood moon thinking I could cut of his spells, but it was weak and awkward in my hand. Game 3 I bring in bonfire and he stumbles on mana.
0-2 RG Tron
Game one failed to find a pridemage and couldn't ultimate domri before he killed it with an Ulamog. Game 2 couldn't find a stony silence or a blood moon and dies to wurmcoil engines.
Still like this list. I am playing this in the modern IQ in the SCG event in Richmond this weekend (is anyone here paying as well).
So you think I should go to 21 lands instead of the 20... if so I am thinking about cutting a steppe lynx cause I think all that burn would be needed. What you all think.
I've been thinking about putting together a Zoo list with some minor changes, what is your guys' best creature (Other than Goyf)? I really like Kird Ape and want to build a deck with it.
I use 21 when im 4 cmc light but i got mana dumps like scooze knight wolfrun Or lynx.
We actually are in a weird apot right now. Midrange isnt aroud as mch anymore, pods made a bit of a resurgence, but the lack of them means were doing better by defult. Rdw is about a 50 -50 matchup for us, depending on your sideboard, and if they Are 3-5 colors or mono red. Combo has gone down (i dont count scapeshift in its current form, twin or pod as combo. They are control, tempo, and midrage decks reapectively with a combo win con, and should be treated as such) because delver keeps it in check, again good by defult for us. Delver is a great matchup(with a few tweeks) so thats perfect for us.
Overall? Were in a fairly good spot. It would be better if the meta was mostly delver and control rather than delver and burn, but were in a better spot than when the meta was midrange (read, since nacatls banning up to now...)
Best creatures? Depends in your meta. Anything with 4 butt or more or asurives bolt is best right now. This is why goyf is still king
Turn win by? 5. Were not infect burn or affinity, so we lose in race, but we have more "reach" and cant be hated out as easily. Burn mostly loses to a chalice on one. We can actualy set a chalaice to one if we feel cheeky. Affinity loses to fallout, i main deck it.
I have teste hooting, i post a deck list a while back with info. It doeant replace goyf. Its mee like sniter.
Maindeck was exactly the same, except that I don't own Goyfs (yet). In their place I ran 2x Scavenging Ooze and 2x Jotun Grunt. In the sideboard, I cut 1 each of Choke and Grafdigger's Cage in order to squeeze in 2x Boros Charm. The Charms' purposes were twofold: 1. To side in for Fallouts in matchups where they're not at their best; 2. To side in vs. sweepers. As it happened, I sided them in every match, and used all three modes to good effect.
I really loved Jotun Grunt and encourage everyone to test him. I consider him Loxodon Smiter 5-6, in that I usually play him on turn 3-4, and he's boltproof. He also has an upside, in that his drawback does splash damage to graveyard decks, delve in particular. It is still a drawback, though, so there will be times where you wish you could play him on turn 2, but it's probably a bad idea. And, obviously, if you run Goyfs, he's a pretty big nonbo. But he was great for me. Ooze, I was less happy with. I hate playing him on turn 2, because he usually just quickly dies. But he is a great lategame topdeck, if the game goes long.
(On a side note, some Grunt tips/tricks, if you've never played with him:
1. You can select each instance of his upkeep from a different graveyard. e.g. Say he has 3 age counters, I can take 4 cards from my opponent's graveyard, and 2 from mine. I cannot, however, take 3 from his and 3 from mine.
2. You can respond to his trigger by filling your graveyard, which is especially useful if people try to deplete your yard in order to leave you short. Cast a burn spell, crack a fetch/Horizon Canopy, sac a Pridemage. At least once I baited my opponent into taking a hit from the Grunt, assuming I wouldn't be able to pay for him next turn; a very good opponent won't make that mistake, but at least be aware of that line of play.)
Hey guys, I have been out of the game for quite a while now looking to jump back into it. The last tournament I played in was an extended PTQ where I top 8'd with a Zoo deck in early 2010. From memory the list was
Just wondering if I could get help on updating the list and what sort of a sideboard would be considered if going to a tournament for the first time and if possible how certain match ups play out. Thanks
Pretty much everything you're asking for can be answered on the OP. I have over 10 hours worth of that info in videos. As for updating lists, any lists in the last few pages is pretty updated.
Puh, 4 Pridemage, 3 Firewalker MD, only 8 1-Drops, Elspeth and 24 Lands. 10 Fetches, 9 Shocks, 3 Utility Lands...thats an interesting List. 61 Cards at all?!? No Path to Exile, Blood Moon and Spellskite in the Sideboard...either he hated the meta or had some budget issues. Zero Goyf, 2 Mesa... crazy list.
Another thing is about your List a few pages ago (4 Smiter, 3 Hooters, 2 Forked Bolt):
It's running well. I wanted to change that one, but still remain to run your original one.
Sometimes i burn my Opponent out, sometimes my Dudes are big enough to overwhelm him.
Again...this strategy differs so much from All-In-Builds it's crazy. I really need to keep track about my ressources, have to make choices, need to interact with my opponent a lot of times... it's a lot slower, but a lot more fun to play^^
If you all wanted to know my take on the GP here ya go:

It gets on your opponent fast and if they stumble, they're dead. The only matchup I felt disadvantaged against was Scapeshift, so I might devote a little more sideboard space to it (although I've already got 2x Boros Charm to fight Anger and 2x Mindcensor).
Modern: GW Hatebears/midrange, WGU Knightfall/evolution midrange stuff

Legacy: W Death & Taxes

Congrats
If youre running 21 lands you should be fine with elspeth over the 4th rampager. Id use electrickery instead of fallout since your running enough things that die to it.
Congrats mate. What was the changes?
2-1 mirror match
2-1 scapeshift
2-0 burn
2-0 boggles
2-1 with the list above

I've been thinking about putting together a Zoo list with some minor changes, what is your guys' best creature (Other than Goyf)? I really like Kird Ape and want to build a deck with it.
What turn do you guys usually win on?
What are our matchups?
Also, has anyone tested Hooting Mandrills?

Just wondering if I could get help on updating the list and what sort of a sideboard would be considered if going to a tournament for the first time and if possible how certain match ups play out. Thanks
Green @ it's best
