I don´t think there is need to make the already bad mana base even worse to play a black creature, serum visions has been working really well for me finding me infect creatures when I need them or scrying into the pump spell that you need.
I´ve played infect at 2 weekly modern events lately, went 4-1 and 3-2. 2 of those 3 losses were vs grixis shadow, wich is just a close to impossible matchup. I was playing 2 chameleon colossus to help and actually won the only game I drew it, but I almost lose that game vs liliana bring back several snapcaster to chumpblock.
Holnestly, infect is my favorite deck but it has been so disheartening lately, they keep printing ridiculous stuff vs us( collective brutality, liliana, fatal push, and even ******* solemnity wich I´m sure I will be paired vs someone playing it for that weird new combo deck) while we only got blossoming defense and were punished by bannign gitaxian probe.
Playing vs the 2 top decks is awful, is just a collection of thing we don´t want to see( maindeck liliana the last hope , cheap removal, insane fast clock, and freaking chalice of the void maindeck).
In general i´m not enjoying modern too much lately, my creature decks are having quite a hard time, hope there are some changes with bans or unbans.
I have a gentlemen's bet to top with a player of vatmothers. This is the list I have brewed so far. I think the card choice could be better, what do you guys think ?

Mono black Infect is something I have never even thought about honestly. The cards choices are interesting to say the least. Feels like 8Rack without The Rack and Shrieking Affliction.
The thing about green being the stepping stone of Infect is because we have so access to pump affects which is why I recommend Vampire's Bite. You can get more damage done and in pinches, gain some needed life. Mutagenic Growth is a must because we already pretty much never cast it for it's real mana cost. Cut more than half to creature removal because Infect is a race to do as much damage in very little time. Look for some pumps sells for black aside from Vampire's Bite from all I can think of right now. I do admire the build and would like to see what you come of with next!

How exactly is the mana base "already bad"?? It's 2 colors, and runs 4 dorks to accelerate and ensure you have the proper colors. Adding a single Overgrown tomb, would not affect the manabase much, if at all.
You even admitted the deck is not doing well in modern, especially with all the efficient removal running about.
I think I'm gonna try my list and see how it does, can't possibly be any worse than the current mess this deck is in this meta.
Also, for anyone holding out hope this deck will make it back to Tier 1-2. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.
WOTC will NEVER print another 1 CMC infect creature, EVER again. The deck is doomed to stay Tier 3 forever and is basically dead for high level competition, barring some strong "mid range" infect creatures being printed.
Don't expect to see this deck make a comeback anytime soon, if ever

New spells were care about are constantly being printed and there is this concept called a metagame. The current grindfest isn't favorable to infect, but when the next big shift hits, who knows?
Your looking at the deck as if it's an aggro package. We're playing the grind game. If I was to go that route, I'd play bugs n thugs. But vatmother is too exspensive for thugs n bugs. And no space. I splashed red for terminate over go for the throat. Blood moon in the board.anger in the board now. One dread bore for b/u. But I think I want a second dread bore. Cards insane in the match up. I'm not sure what direction the list needs to take to be a viable grind game list, with infect as a finisher.

In a non-aggro build of Infect, I can see this working. Infect just has always been in recent brewings has been aggro and usually very fast in winning and at times, fast in loosing.
Last night in my area, we have Modern Mondays and I played Infect for a change of pace. Oh boy, did it catch people off guard. I ended up getting 7th in the top 8 bracket. Point is that people were just not expecting Infect to show up at tournaments because the deck isn't really played much without Gitaxian Probe and honestly Fatal Push.

So despite being cautiously optimistic over the last couple months that this deck would still be a thing, I'm honestly thinking about switching over to play infect in the mono-B control shell ... since I still love the infect mechanic. WotC seems to really be pushing black a lot and hating out a lot of blue decks if/when they get a large enough % of the metagame.
I was a twin player for quite a few years, then switched to infect after the ban. I'm getting a bit tired of my deck being banned / nerfed out of being competitive. Twin was technically still playable with kiki, but as the test of time determined it was weakened so much that it wasn't viable for anything more than FNM level tournaments. Heck, I still think you could take an old twin list to a FNM today with 4 kiki-jiki and not auto-lose, potentially even win small events with the surprise factor. But as all of us know, it's obviously not a competitive deck anymore. After the twin ban, I saw people brewing for months and keeping active in the forums just like I'm seeing here with infect. There were results here and there with various brews just like infect is putting up now.
I stuck with twin for about as long as I've stuck with infect now (post-ban). Both instances I was hoping that the community would solve it and modify the deck so that it would be putting up top finishes at bigger events, or regularly getting back to 4-0 / 5-0 finishes online, or that some new card would be printed that would make the deck viable again.
WotC definitely doesn't have any plans to reprint anything that will help out infect. MaRo has infect mechanic and stuff that would really push it in the "very unlikely" end of his development agenda ... with even more headache cards being printed as time goes by: Fatal Push, Solemnity.
Maybe I'm just being pessimistic now, but I don't feel it's entirely unjustified. I saw the exact same thing just a year before.
Solemnity is something that can be quite a problem for it with decks that can hold them own. Infect honestly isn't that popular right now. I played Infect at a Modern Monday event in my area and I managed to bubble in and get 7th out of 17 people. My two wins were against R/U Aggro and Bant Counters, my losses were against Eldrazi Tron and Abzan.
I did learn something from playing Infect, no one is sidebaording for it in mind right now. It caught quite a few people off guard be seeing Infect squeak in.

People don't really have to SB for Infect when maindeck Fatal Push, Bolt, Path and Chalice are running around all over the place.

I do admit, a lot of decks right now running a lot of answers mainboard for what us infectors have a hard time against. Still a fun deck to play and surprise with some wins out of nowhere
Just took down our local PPTQ.
I don't remember all the games, but I had tons of misplays which cost me atleast 2 games.
First time playing Modern & Infect since the rise of Death Shadow, which I managed to dodge.
My list for reference:
Round 1 vs Jund 2-0
Round 2 vs 5c Slivers 2-1
Round 3 vs Affinity 2-1
Round 4 vs Ad Nauseam 1-2
Round 5 vs GW Tron 2-1
Round 6 vs UW Control 0-2
8th place
Quarter vs Boros Burn 2-1
Semi vs Eldrazi Tron 2-1
Final vs Affinity 2-1 (same guy as in Round 3)
I'm very glad to hear that you did good with Infect at the PPTQ! I'm more amazed you 2-0 Jund, that deck is the hardest matchup for me. Very, very nice though!

I see that stuff like titanshift and even clasic tron are starting to see a lot more of play. Modern feels very cyclical, if people are playing way too many midrange decks, stuff like tron will start to see more play again. It feels like infect is going to be more viable now than in the midrange fest that modern was these past months.

Last night, in my area, we have Modern Mondays that we all come out and play. I decided to play Infect, and it was interesting to say the least. I went 2-3, not great but not horrible.
I agree in what you are saying. Modern does go into cycles a lot recently and I feel that Infect could show up and take some games for those that are expecting it. It is dangerous though because if Infect makes a good record in tournaments now, people will be expecting it and that means people will go back to sideboarding against it
This version plays out more similarly to Legacy Infect, with max cantrips, 3 maindeck Spell Pierce and 4 Disrupting Shoal (!). In the SB he has Pongify over Dismember, for Shoal synergy I guess. Or maybe even normal damage beats after they try to kill your Infect guy, lol.
21 land seems a bit high, especially with 8 cantrips. I'm also not convinced that the black splash is necessary, again because you have 8 cantrips to find your Infect guys.
While I have enjoyed playing Infect in the past, I have struggled with the deck lately, which is unfortunate. With so much Thoughseize and Inquisition, you may not even have access to an infect creature by the time you get to cast one. Then, Liliana makes you get rid of your single infect creature after you actually come across another one. Without Gitaxian Probe (I even had the special art foil ones), it becomes more difficult to see if the way is clear before you go all in on pumping a creature, and its harder to fuel Become Immense. Fatal Push is a huge threat. Now with Solemnity, it seems as though we have to entirely change the Infect package in order to actually have a viable win condition. Is it insurmountable? Not sure, but it seems like the necessary adjustments to deal with all of these conditions forces us to either abandon the deck, or change it significantly in order to keep it viable. That might not be such a bad thing, but then again, the cards might not be there to support it. Each pump spell you remove to actually deal with the variety of new conditions weakens the ability to win with our 1/1 creatures. Maybe in the next set, there will be a card that enables "Proliferate x9" and then we are back in action!
