I played a few matches at my LGS against some solid U/R and Grixis Twin pilots, and was sadly reminded that Blood Moon can be quite a beating (sometimes you just don't have Mana Leak or a discard spell in the first few turns). Given the uptick in the number of decks playing Blood Moon, does it make sense to start playing more fetches/basics in lieu of River of Tears, Secluded Glen, and/or Tectonic Edge? Or would doing so leave us too susceptible to burn/aggro and mana screw?
I run 3 Mana Leak, 2 Negate, 3 Thoughtseize, 3 Inquisition of Kozilek postboard against UR Twin/Grixis Twin. Blood Moon is not a big deal for me personally and I don't find the fetch-shock base to be worth it. Be aware of it and live with it and sometimes you are being caught unguarded. But honestly, the few times they actually resolve a Blood Moon are the only times you really lose against Twin.
@FaeKeeler:
Nice summary for novice players about Vendi-Clique! One more point:
If you are eager to cast a big spell against a control deck or twin deck (Batterskull, Curse of Death's Hold, Sword of X and Y, Liliana of the Veil, Tasigur), don't hesitate to cast it end of turn, before you want to play it, into their counterspells and overcommit counterspells if need be. Sometimes it is better to wait until turn 4 to do it, so you can curve into that turn 5 batterskull, that sword and equip or turn 5 blossom + liliana.
And another: Vendlilion Clique is excellent in counterwars, Aether Vial activations and Through the Breach plans, albeit all very narrow situations. Be aware of them. Saved me multiple times . It is not fun if your Through the Breach has to spend it on a Sakura Tribe Elder or misses the Vial activation.
Oh God I watched the video then saw the quickling in his hand and immediately went "whats this other faeries video in the youtube sidebar"
Haha, right, I saw him thumbing around his hand and saw the Quickling too. I was like ok, that's why you don't run it lol. He even got up to go ask a Judge if he could flash it in and block before saccing it... really poor example and I'm sad that the deck got labeled as UB Faeries...
If anyone has links to some good Faeries matchups, I'd love to watch. (preferably at bigger events and preferably not on MTGO).

Haha, I hope I get to use V-Cliq against Vial. I'm going to stick with 3 in the deck for now.
I was just thinking about Blood Moon today and wondering if I should SB something to let me remove or at least bounce bloodmoon. I think currently I'd have to rely on Engineered Explosives and needing to have both a basic island and swamp in play to get it, which seems less likely w/o fetches.

@Metllon: also excellent points that I'm glad got made.
@Nardraug: I run a copy of echoing truth in the sideboard to help against blood moon and other annoying permanents (it also works well against choke, for instance). I also run several copies of anticipate, so I can dig more aggressively for it, meaning that I'll usually need only one island in play instead of three to bounce it.
With the recent success of Kolaghan's command is it maybe time to revisit Grixis Faeries? We are playing a deck with some of the most powerful creatures with powerful ETB effects. Wouldn't it make sense to give grixis a shot? At some points it even serves as a snapcaster mage for our SSS (with 1 mana extra). Mana base will typically be one of the issues, but I think it might be worth a shot

I wish they'd reprint conversion. Obviously, Faeries wouldn't run it, but it could discourage bloodmoon users.
Speaking of Commands, what about Silumgar's Command for SB against bloodmoon and other annoying enchantments/plainswalkers? Or Perilous Vault could be a decent one. Maybe Set Adrift - sorcery speed, but could cost 1 blue mana and set them back a card. Or maybe Mind Bend ? Might be too specific, but it could do other work, such as change the protection on swords to your benefit or something. But on bloodmoon, well, now all nonbasics are islands?
Actually, Repeal probably looks the best option. Cantrips plus bounce at instant speed.

I have been playing Grixis Fae for about a few weeks now and it is quite fun, the real selling points for me are Lightning Bolt, Electrolyze, and Kolghans Command
All three of these cards allow the deck to be more reactive as well as have additional reach. The mana has been interesting, you switch over to a fetch shock base with 4 mutavault, it can certainly be challenging but most of the time it seems to work out fine.

I put it on the wrong place. Sometimes you post something in a multi-quote post, your reply is really being overshadowed by all other replies. This is very unfortunate. It derails the discussion, while also make some members wonder were your posts are when they eagerly follow your talk. Because that would really live up the debate about how the Faeries perform and how they do in the current metagame. The metagame right now does require some deck building to combat the new threats.
The best answer is a counter, or a preemptive discard. Though I have to confess that throwing in Mind Bend replacing 'basic mountains' for 'basic swamps' can be backbreaking for opposing decks, given that we have 1/2 islands in play and it would be hilarious haha. Anyway, too cute and too narrow.

Okay, I will not hold you up any longer.
The answer was: RATCHET BOMB!!!!
Yeah, I was considering Ratchet Bomb as an answer too. I think either Repeal or running Fetches (to ensure I have island/swamp and then mountain once blood moon hits to use EE for 3cmc) will be attempt to foil that plot. We'll see if I even have a lot of blood moons in my meta first I guess lol. What I don't like about Ratchet Bomb is the speed of it, but it can be pretty nice to just let it chill out there as a threat. Too bad you can't tap it to add or remove a counter.

Bomb on the play against Twin is pretty strong . Play enough 2-mana counters and hand disruption and it shouldn't be etoo much of an issue.
I have my first results for testing my new deck. There were 19 people playing, we did 5 rounds, then cut to top 8.
Round 1 was vs burn. Kind of some weird cards in his deck, so it wasn't a great a build imo, but he got me to 2 game 1 and game 2 I got both spellskites early and it was a done deal.
Round 2 I played against mono blue tron. Very well put together against a solid opponent. I got BB on T2 but then I got stuck on 3 mana the entire game. He got hos tron pieces, we had a few counter battles, I got scion out and was pushing through some good damage. He got a wurmcoil out and I paid 4 life to dismember it to reduce his lifegain and kill it, but he remanded it, which I tried to countersquall (using all 3 of my mana now) and he did another counter, so that was all for naught. I managed to draw a 4th mana and activated tar pit and was able to push for game on the back swing of him gaining 6 life. Game 2 was a bit crazy, he was looping O-stone and recurring it each turn, so the bitterblossoms I was getting out were short lived. We went back and forth on countering and removing until he got out platinum angel. I had a V-Clique out a couple scions. Figuring he'd trade and just regrab his angel, I started swinging in. He dropped to 7 then 2 then -3 and then -8. He finally got Oblivion Stone out and put a counter on his angel, blew the rest. So, now I'm sitting there stuck with a couple remands and no board. He taps out for a 2nd Angel which I remanded successfully. Then I topdecked a cryptic for the win (bouncing the angel and winning).
I felt good about that match, it was rough and back and forth (and the 3 land game really was frustrating).
Round 3 I played against Jund mid range and I got slaughtered. Game 1 he starts. Comes out with a scavenging ooze on turn 2 and I trade a mutavault with it - putting me back to 1 land. He then drops a goyf. I get out a BB but he gets a 2nd goyf and abrupt decays my BB, so that was GG. Game 2 was similar, I get out BB, he gets goyf, he abrupt decays my BB and wins. Abrupt Decay is really hard to deal with I have noticed.
Round 4, I had an easy match up against a mono black discard waste not deck. I got bitterblossoms and man lands out and he didn't have a way to deal with them all. I didn't need a hand against him and just went top deck mode.
Round 5 was definitely the most fun match up. I wish all my games with this guy were recorded. It was merfolk vs faeries. Tough match up and he certainly didn't mind me having islands already in my deck (and I didn't mind using my mutavault with his Lord of Atlantis out). He turn 1 vialed all 3 games. That was hard to overcome. I think I turn 2 BB all 3 games, so I can't complain too much. It's an even match up really. I played some good V Cliques to disrupt his draws) and we both countered and killed a lot. game 1 though wasn't even close, he got all on board and was just smashing me in the face, I had him to 16 lol. Game 2 though, I had a better idea what to look for and I had answers and my BB took over. Game 3 came down to the wire, but he pulled it out with me at 5 and him at 7, both of us whittling away at the other with a top deck lord to get his 2 mutavaults in for 6. All 3 games I didn't draw a single Scion, so that didn't help.
I went into top 8 and got matched against the same merfolk deck. Again, before sideboarding in cards, he dealt with me quite easily, I only got him to 12. Still a LOT of interaction and fun match, but after siding I got rid of 2 of my cryptics, all 3 mistbinds, both thoughtseize and I added 2x Swords, smother, 2x Engineered Explosives, Spell Snare, and Black Suns Zenith. It really made me a little more ready to deal with his crap, but the match up was so difficult and a constant struggle. Trying to get around that vial with counter or hand removal just doesn't work well. But I kept getting T2 bitterblossoms with his turn 1 vials. Game 2 ended with me at 2 life left. Game 3 I won with 3 life left. I was lucky to perfectly have answers for his T3 and T4 Kira's that he tried to get out. I sat back holding BB that game as I didn't want him resolving anything major and he didn't have vial out yet either.
These aren't really detailed reports I know. Some thoughts for me... I never once considered siding in Glen Elendra Archmage so I'm not sure why I'm running it. Other than that, I'm happy with my deck and sideboard. I think I want to have another spell snare and maybe even spell pierce as they are great turns 1-3. I'm also considering 4 IoKs might be the choice. Sure it's not great vs tron, but what is? More Tech Edges?
Anyways, that's my thoughts at 1:40 AM after a long night at FNM.
Actually I think Harbinger can be really good, but over the 4th mistbind clique, and the snapcaster could/should be a scion of Oona. 26 lands feels like it floods out to me. The cavern of souls is weird in the sb to me also. Curious of the 1 of familiar's ruse

Decks I have in my bag of tricks- Needless to say, someone who wants to play will probably have a deck UB/x Faeries UR Storm XURWB Affinity G Elves UW control
Hello again. Played a 5 rounds FNM, and a 4 Round modern tournament on saturday as well:
Round 1: Grixis Delver (1-2)
Game 1 (On the draw): Crush him. That's all there is to say. Countered his digging and killed his threats, he could only watch me kill him with my increasing swarm of faeries. It felt good.
Game 2 (On the draw): I'm stuck in 2 lands (Vault and Shores), but still I'm able to answer to his threats. That is, of course, until he goes Tasigur + Angler in the same turn. I couldn't hold the line and die to bolt + snap + bolt. Sad
Game 3 (On the play): I still feel this should have been my mine, and I did miss the Drown in sorrow that I couldn't get for SB. I T1 Inquisition, T2 Bitterblossom, T3 Liliana and start killing him and his threats. EVERYTHING under control, until he manages to kill lili, and wipe my tokens with Engineered Explosives. So sad, again, can't cope with 2 anglers on the other side and I eventualy die with kolaghan's command and bolt.
Round 2: UWR Control (2-0)
Game 1(On the draw): Walk in the park. Discard and clique, followed by land beatdown, into bitterblossom and win.
Game 2(On the draw): T1 Inquisition, T2 Thoughtseize, T3 Liliana, T5 Liliana again. Cry me a river.
Round 3: Bogles (2-0)
Game 1(On the draw): He attempts to go with a spiritdancer, so I kill her and counter his bogle. He dies from bitterblossom + scion + mistbind.
Game 2(On the draw): He lands a bogle, and enchants it with rancor and ethereal armor. 5/2 Trample First Strike bogle on the other side of the table definitely seems scary. I turn 3 Lili and smile. Then he attempts to go on a Dryad Arbor but I kill it in response to the totem armor.
Round 4: Splinter Twin (2-0)
Game 1 (On the draw): Walk in the park. Discard into spellstutter coutnering desperate attempts of digging with visions and burn with bolt, timewalk with mistbind, more disrupt with vendilion clique and easy kill.
Game 2 (On the draw): Repeat the process, but with 2 lilis instead of 2 blossoms, and some more kill spells in case he realizes he can't combo against me. He does realize it. He still dies from the value of LIli and Batteskull.
Round 5: Jund (0-2):
Game 1(On the draw): Didn't draw enough removal and he kills me fast with goyf and tasigur. Really bad game, I mull to 6 and keep a 4 land hand without removal. Bad choice.
Game 2 (On the play): This game was much more interactive. Long story short, seems like my experience with Junk/Jund was useless because I choose to keep discard in the 60 I'm playing. WHYYYY????? We go into top deck mode, and that's wehn I realize my top deck is much worse than his (not only because our cards synergize to get card quality, but because I know that I might top deck discard into empty hands), he kills me with Lavaman and Raging Ravine.
Had I beaten the Jund player I would have been 2nd. Came out 7th, so it would have been a Top 8 anyway, if it was a tournament.
Wake up. It's saturday, 1 hour left before the tournament begins. I feel enlightened:
Round 1: Junk Liege (1-2)
I know this guy plays CoCo Value, so I think that's what he's playing.
Game 1 (On the draw): We fight a good fight. We start trading cards to kill threats on the other side, eventually I land a bitterblossom and start countering stuff, then another bitterblossom to finish it off. But he stars landing Lingering Souls and 1 turn before I can kill him I die to 0 life due to my blossoms. Tried to mistbind 1, but he pathed it. Sad game.
Game 2 (On the play): Open with Leyline and crush him with blossom into stutters with clique backup. There wasn't really an interaction here, he tried to path but couldn't, and that's that.
Game 3(On the draw): It hurts me to draw for the turn a Leyline (8th card in the deck T_T). I thoguhtseize, into blossom, into stutter and dismember. He starts pathing and lingering. I get Leyline online. We start ignoring each other's board state and reduce our life totals a lot. We're in top deck mode, we're both on a 2 turn clock, but I start attacking so I have the advantage. My hand is a land. His hand, I don't know. I do the math: If he doesn't draw a Liege I win. He topdecks liege. So long.
Round 2: Jund (2-1):
Game 1 (On the draw): I lose to a double confidant, goyf, scooze, tasigur, manlands. Drew 4 removlas and a few counters but in the end flooded and couldn't kill the land, so sad.
Game 2 (On the play): This is the most exquisite game I've ever played against Jund. Discard out this time, no need to suffer again from that horrid feeling of going to topdeck mode to draw a useless thoughtseize. My bitterblossom eats his decay (as planned) so I can safely land a Lili to use her as a discard source and removal. He gets a lili as well, and he gets to ulti with her, dealing with my blossom and 2 lands. I still recover from there with my Lili. She takes over the game leaving the coast clear both in hand and battlefield. Then second blossom into stutter into mistbind is awesome. Crushed him.
Game 3: He goes extra greedy: Keeps a one lander with 2 discard spells. He gets rid of my answers, but can't land his threats. By the time he gets to land a goyf I already have answers for it. I land a V clique getting rid of a decay (he couldn't respond with his tapped lands), then he lands a lili and I respond with a mistbind, tap his last land, sac mistbind and clique him again. So effing good. Untap and kill him with 2 vaults and a tarpit plus clique and tokens.
Round 3: Jund (2-0):
Game 1 (On the play): I start with discard eating his goyf, we start trading resources but I draw a lot of answers and manlands. Kill him with vaults and tar pit. Weird game 1.
Game 2 (On the draw): I start with leyline on the field even though I shouldn't have boarded this, but I was sure he was splashing white for lingering -he was not-. We start trading off again and he hurts himself a lot with alnds an seizes. I clique his threat and start beating down with mutavaults. Topdeck a blossom and rode it to victory.
Round 4: Splinter Twin (ID)
I didn't know he was playing twin tough, otherwise I'd have played the game and climbed to 2nd place. I ended up 8th. We all ID'd since the top 8 was locked for us anyway, so we saved an hour of play. Again, I regret this.
Top 8: UW Tron (1-2)
This round felt so unfair.
Game 1 (On the draw): I crush him so badly with an online bitterblossom, tempo him out with remands and commands bouncing lands, eventyually start timewalking him with Mistbind. He couldn't even play magic this game. Felt really proud of that.
Game 2 (On the draw): Leyline online from T1 (Remember this tron is all about Gifts Ungiven + Iona, Shield of Emeria + Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite + Unburial Rites, right?). So I start beating him with blossoms and a tar pit, then a stutter and finally land a blossom. He starts getting a sh*tload of mana and digs for answers really badly. In the end he wipes my board, while slowly dealing with my Manlands with his Celestial Colonnade. In the end I run out of gas with him at 2 life. Frustrating.
Game 3 (On the play): Close to game 2. I dealt with every possible threat he could play, countered everything I could, Timewalked him with Mistbind Clique, have a Vendilion Clique EoT to untap and kill him. Run out of gas in hand, he gifts (really poorly) into Snapcaster + Path + Supreme Verdict + Sphinx Rev. I give him Rev and Path. He paths mistbind and passes the turn. I can't kill him now, but even if he draws 7 and gains 7 next turn (he's pretty much tapped out now) I can still kill him with a second attack. He topdecks Elesh Norn. GG WP.
(Still can't find the damned Drown in Sorrow I know I have somewhere)
All in all I am really proud of the results of the list, and it feels really strong and smooth to play. I really want us to have some filtering effects, but that means the loss of the control role we can play, since in order to play cards like Anticipate, or Telling Time, or Serum visions. We can't play Faeries with those cards, at least not the control role. I can see it working in an aggro Fae, with no counters, more focused on discard and removal and 4 Scions in. For now I'll keep testing around this list, which felt amazingly strong. I am not giving up on my beloved Faeries!!
EDIT: Forgot to update with the list I will test this week:
Round 3 I played against Jund mid range and I got slaughtered. Game 1 he starts. Comes out with a scavenging ooze on turn 2 and I trade a mutavault with it - putting me back to 1 land. He then drops a goyf. I get out a BB but he gets a 2nd goyf and abrupt decays my BB, so that was GG. Game 2 was similar, I get out BB, he gets goyf, he abrupt decays my BB and wins. Abrupt Decay is really hard to deal with I have noticed.
No offense, but why would you do that?
Hah, yeah, it does sound bad. My intent was basically to use it to stop his threat. I had enough land in hand and I didn't know what his deck was yet. Trading seemed good while it was still 2/2. I talked with him after about that and he said it seemed a solid choice.
Hello. I am relatively new to u/B Faeries. I usually play standard, but I decided to dip into modern recently. THis is the list I've put together to start testing based on what I've seen people play:
I'm still in the process of putting my sideboard together. What matchups should I be trying to build my sideboard against? Currently I know that I want at least 1x Batterskull, 1x Damnation, 2x Hurkyl's Recall, 2x Disfigure, and at least 2x Relic of Progenitus.

@FaeKeeler:

5678Haha, right, I saw him thumbing around his hand and saw the Quickling too.

Okay, I will not hold you up any longer.
The answer was: RATCHET BOMB!!!!

5678Yeah, I was considering Ratchet Bomb as an answer too.

5678Round 1 was vs burn.
This is one weird list that I would never play but congrats!!!!

FAERIES TOO STRONK!!!1111
- Fae Prophecy, 201
5678Round 1: Grixis Delver (1-2)

GG WP.
