I'm not sure it's necessarily one or the other, but Spirit Mantle guarantees you're going to push damage through when facing creatures which is definitely relevant. It also allows you to have a really strong blocker if need be.
I'm looking to come out of left field at a Sunday event soon with UW boggles. Curious Obsession is totally insane and I'm surprised more people aren't buzzing over it.
What is the motiviation behind running Spirit Mantle over Gryff's Boon? I mean, yes Boon can make us open to being chumped by Lingering Souls, but it's not THAT common in the meta at the moment. Secondly, it seems as though most lists have dropped Spirit Link.
Recently I just picked up the last of my Horizon Canopies. As some in this thread know, I've been experimenting with Cartouche of Strength to replace Unflinching Courage, but now the move from 3cmc auras to 2 and 1 has me guessing.
Gryff's Boon is by no means bad, it's just that there's a lot of competition for the slots after Cartouche of Solidarity was printed. The problem with Gryff's Boon is that many decks can block fliers. Lingering Souls is not the only problem, there's also Birds of Paradise, Kitesail Freebooter/Mantis Rider, Narcomoeba, a ton of Affinity creatures, and so on. Perhaps more importantly though, Spirit Mantle is a much better defensive play. Against decks like Death's Shadow, Humans and Eldrazi Tron it's quite common to block with a Spirit Mantled creature on turn 2/3.
But, as I said Gryff's Boon is still a fine card. If you start out with 20 lands, 12 creatures, 4 paths and 16 mandatory auras (Coronet/Rancor/Ethereal/Spider), there's 8 slots remaining. In my most recent tournament I put 2 Hyena Umbra, 3 Cartouche of Solidarity and 3 Spirit Mantle here. Other options include Gryff's Boon, Unflinching Courage and Spirit Link, and the best choice among these are heavily meta dependent. Maindecking Leylines makes it even more difficult to fit Gryff's Boon.

This is functionally the same card as Keen Sense which was played in the past, but is dropping from lists for being slow. I don't think the additional +1 makes up for the off color.
Edit: Didn't see you mentioned UW Bogles. I don't know anything about UW, other than I could not be convinced to play without Gladecover or Rancor. GW Bogles is already on the slow end of non interactive Modern decks, replacing a one drop creature for Invisible Stalker or whatever is not a sound choice I think.
THIS 100X!!! If you don't agree with this then there is no amount of logic that will ever convince you that good, non-oppressive, combos should be allowed. If you don't agree with it then just don't play this game, and you certainly shouldn't feel entitled to make any comment on ban lists ever.
I didn't say it was going to be the new standard for boggles, just something to catch people off guard. You drop a turn of speed for interaction basically.
I just replaced Spirit Link with another Cartouche of Solidarity and tested it several times against Mardu Pyromancer. It makes SUCH a difference. It really just does what Spirit Link does. The body it creates, in aggressive matchups where you might need lifelink, can act as a blocker, so the replaced Spirit Link is barely missed!
Sidenote: These games were also the first time I played with a full playset of Horizon Canopy in the deck. I shudder when I think that at one time I ran Brushlands without complaint. For anyone waffling over whether or not they improve the deck by any meaningful amount, waffle no longer. They give the deck SO much reach. You never have to worry about flooding ever again, and they draw you into action and sideboard pieces.

How does one post in the official Bogles thread, one, might I add, that has the name "BOGLE" in the title, and MISSPELL the name? How does it happen that people misspell the name at all?
Oh I don't know... possibly because it's barely a real word that is literally never used in discourse or written work. Furthermore, it can technically be spelled either way. I can't believe you would post in the OFFICIAL bogles thread, and, might I add, use way to many comas, and, not even know, that.

I guess I just expect people posting in this forum to play or at least be somewhat familiar with the subject. The card doesn't read Slippery Bogle/Boggle, it reads Slippery Bogle. Every reference to Bogles in-game spells them a certain way. There is no technicality.

Bogle and Boggle are actually two different words with two different pronunciations and completely different meanings.
Curious Obsession is definitely a very interesting card. I strongly disagree with just lumping this in with Keen Sense. Keen Sense and Spirit Link are both examples that would be automatic inclusions if they also gave +1/+1. It really makes all the difference in terms of being able to get through blockers and win tight races. That being said, the end of turn trigger can probably be inconvenient sometimes and adding a color comes with its own set of problems.

I like this list. Since there's a blue mana source, what're your thoughts on including 1-2 Hadana's Climb / Winged Temple of Orazca? I've never liked running auras with cmcs >2, but I like the idea of an alternate win-con besides Daybreak in those grindier matchups where you have your opponent on the ropes, but just can't draw that Rancor/Daybreak to push damage through. Even if we whiff on our draws and never topdeck that gas, giving our Bogle flying & +x/+x is almost always gg if we get to transform it.
On another note related to this list, would you consider playing some number of unstable mutation? I remember seeing them in older lists that splashed for blue and they always got much praise.
At that point, I would just prefer Ajani, Caller of the Pride. For all intents and purposes, he does the SAME thing, except you can choose to give the -3 without fulfilling a condition and for free. I've played around with Ajani to great success over the years. That isn't too helpful, as we are trying to incentivize blue here. Unstable Mutation acts as a second copy of Ethereal Armor, adding explosiveness to the blue build that it normally sacrifices to add consistency. Hadana's Climb clashes heavily with Unstable Mutation.
I agree that Curious Obsession is good enough to put Bant Bogles into the conversation. The worst part about Keen Sense is that often it's just a cantrip that has some synergy with Ethereal Armor. This bypasses that downside by giving some real stats. It has that synergy with Ethereal Armor, it is a cantrip, BUT you get a permanent buff that ensures that it's always relevant. The endstep downside, let's be real, isn't even relevant here. You're rarely going to drop a Bogle and auras on the same turn anyway, AND it should be noted that you don't even have to attack with the enchanted creature to avoid the trigger anyway. This is a real card; don't underappreciate it just because Keen Sense isn't that good in our deck anymore.

Hadana's Climb seems incredibly slow and not very effective. For 3 mana I would rather just play Unflinching Courage. It's possible to imagine situations where Hadana's Climb is good, such as a grindy match against BGx or UWx control, but 90% of the time Unflinching Courage is just gonna be much better.
Unstable Mutation is more interesting, though as always the question is what you can cut from the deck. Aura space is already so extremely tight.
This was my stab at Bant Bogles. The deck runs one less land because Curious Obsession will likely draw us into one land, similar to Turbo Xerox. We don't need as many Umbras because Stubborn Denial has our back. Please ignore the manabase, as it is not what we're discussing at the moment.
Been working a ton and just wanted to check in. I've been playing here and there online with pretty good results. Storm is a problem. I literally have 12 sideboard cards to optionally bring in and sill usually get bent over. I would devote a little more time and resources (Cannonist) to storm but I have a feeling wizards will be taking care of that problem for me at the next announcement. While I'm on the subject, I love having a challenging deck to beat but not one that casts 35 spells to my 6 over the course of 20 minutes to my 5. Anyways...
Saw the new blue enchantment. That thing would be a world beater if it were green. I play three Keen Sense right now. I feel like I always have a free attack or two and love the extra chance to draw into my hate or have card advantage against Jund variants. I board them out on the draw for sure. The problem with splashing a color is not the lack of good cards to warrant a splash, it's the mana base. Red offers tons of cards to splash for. I have tested these decks extensively to the same result. There are just too many games that end in deck malfunction. A problem that plagues our deck already. It might be able to rip off a 5-0 here or there but it just isn't consistent enough to take down a big tournament. I think the only thing that will change hexproof is the printing of another blue 1 cmc hexproof creature. Then you could cut green (RIP Rancor), play misty and heath to still fetch for the arbor, and play a u/w version. There are enough white enchantments now to make a solid u/w build. While I'm on the subject, test Unstable Mutation before you write about it. Yes, it gives you some god draws, but it can be a total nightmare in grindy games.
I have been loving Cartouche. I cannot draw enough of that card. The value of having and chump blocker and being able to attack early against things like burn is huge. Not to mention what it does against B/G/X decks. It's not always obvious, but it usually boils down to being the difference against those deck.
I have abandon Stony Silence. I NEVER play affinity anymore which isn't a horrible matchup to being with. I haven't played old school tron or latern at all lately either. I roll with Dissenter's Deliverance. It blows up anything I need to and cycles if there is nothing to destroy. I have always been partial to Nature's Claim but I think Deliverance is just better. I absolutely hate chalice.
I'm still testing the idea, but essentially, I wasnt really happy with the totem armors and such only providing +1/+1.
It feels like you often dont have that much of a choice in what hands to keep, if you have a creature, mana, and some auras, you have to keep. But then if the auras are like spirit mantle, and spider umbra, cartouche of solidarity, keen sense, spirit link, curious obsession, etc, you throw 3 auras on a creature and you are attacking for like 3 on turn 2, 4-5 on turn 3, and then again on turns 4, 5, and maybe even 6 if you couldnt topdeck something. Quite slow vs all the combo decks out there like storm.
By going into red, you get a bit more power per aura.
Consuming fervor is like unstable mutation, taste for mayhem and furor of the bitten are about as good as rancor, and obv double the power over stuff like umbras.
In a deck filled with red auras, thunderous might provides the same amount of extra power you would get from ethereal armor. (but feels slightly slow and unnecessary at 2 mana)
Madcap skills is no daybreak coronet. But it still kills people really fast.
Temur battle rage can speed you up by a turn.
And then you get all of the extra fast mana.
Most of the time, you only need 1-2 lands. A g mana on turn 1, and then R after that. Any extra lands you draw beyond the ones in your opener are probably dead anyway, so its not too bad if you draw dead chancelors instead of useless forests.
Ideally, you have 2 lands and a chancelor instead of 3 lands, and you get to use 2 mana on turn 1, 2 mana on turn 2, and 2 mana on turn 3, instead of 1,2,3 if you had 3 lands. So one of your auras is getting played 2 turns ahead of curve.
Also, it gives painless G on the first turn, but still lets us play a red manabase for the rest of the spells, and no need to take pain.
With the bant version, the lands can be a bit painful I found. Here some games you lose out on the lifelink from daybreak coronet, but you also dont take 3-5 dmg from your lands each game, or have to play a turn behind with tapped lands.
Give it a shot, see if you like it
If not, maybe chancelor can still work in a bant list to help provide some early painless G sources, speed things up a bit, and let you play with seachrome coasts and land daybreak coronets more easily.
Thanks for posting your list; it's definitely unique! Splashing red for TBR has been an idea I've had sitting on the back burner for a while, but just don't have the time I used to now that I'm in med school. I'm hoping to brew up something this Summer, but I don't think I'd ever go this far. IMO, umbra spells are arguably one of the top 4 auras we play; nothing hurts more than having a beefed up Bogle ready to gg the opponent when they resolve a board wipe and our Bogle isn't wearing his totem armor. I also don't think I could ever see myself dropping white as it gives us access to amazing Sb cards plus staples like Daybreak; if I had to guess I'd say almost half of my wins are the result of an opponent scooping once Daybreak is resolved. However, I love the creativity and the foray into new colors (also the SSGs, I'm a sucker for those fast mana monkeys). I wholeheartedly believe that Bogles can gain a lot from splashing a third color, specifically red or blue; I love seeing lists like this, because it's reassuring to know that there are brewers out there trying to make it happen. I hope you decide to post updates as you play more games with the build; I'm definitely interested in the results. TBR is a card I desperately want to see implemented into a successful Bogles build; it would be downright filthy in the current meta.
Hello all! I'm new here, been following the thread a bit for some months. I'm an old casual player who've returned to play MtG like 6 months ago : sold my old collection and strated to build some competitive decks for different formats. In Modern, I built Bogles for its low cost, low interaction and facility to pilot for a guy returning to the game. I'm going to GP Toronto 2018 next week and, even if I considered playing my U/W Control deck, I decided to go for the underdog and play my Bogles deck and catch the metagame off-guard with the strong White sideboard cards. I'll put my list here, I would like some advices from fellow Bogles players! Keep in mind that I'm no pro-player, just a guy who goes to a GP for the experience and the fun of it.
So, I'm going for a Sideboard extension in the main deck with 3x Path to Exile and 3x Leyline of Sanctity in the main board, as they are key against Grixis Death Shadow. The sideboard is pretty self-explanatory : x3 RIP versus Storm, Control, Living End / Path to Exile versus creature based decks / Eidolon of Rhetoric against Burn, Storm, Living End / x2 Gaddock against CoCo, Tron, UWx Control / Leylines versus targeting, LotV, Thoughtseizes and Inquisition / Seal of Primoridum versus Affinity, Lantern, Spellskite, Blood Moon / Stony Silence for Affinity and Lantern, etc.
I've meddled with the Unfliching Courage in the main deck but I've found that they are too slow. When you have them in hand, it's either playing it, or play 3 other 1CMC spells.
I think that's about it! It's my first post here, so be kind If I made any error please lol ^^ What do you think about this list? What should I add or cut? Thanks and have a good day!

The list looks great to me. You've got the core of what you need. The rest is just guessing what you're going to face. I've been getting quite a bit of mileage out of Spirit Link lately. Helps a ton against humans and all the fast, wide creature decks. Mainboardable for sure. List looks good though. Might want to test dissenter's deliverance. You lose the potential Ethereal boost of Seal but gain instant speed and the ability to cycle if there is no Artifact to kill. It's all preference. I play with hexproof a ton and personally think its just a better card. The other card I would test is Gryff's boon. In alot of instances it's just faster and cheaper than Mantle. Does make you a little more susceptible to Chalice. Realistically, you're probably not going to win through a resolved Chalice anyway!
That's my two cents. Great job with the deck and good luck in Toronto.

I will see you in Toronto next weekend. I will be running Bogles and pretty close to the exact 75 your running (and entirely foil to boot) I am playing a Gryff Boon over the Ledgewalker your running and i have a second spirit link in the board over eidolon.. I also agree Unflinching courage isn't needed at 3 cmc.. I prefer Seal over dissenters because in Bogles I just want to play out my stuff and not have to hold up mana..
Ha. I'm happy to hear someone else is foiled up! I'm foiled as well but rarely bring it anywhere.. usually just puts a giant bullseye on you at smaller tourneys. Perfect for a GP though! Are you going to Hartford this spring as well or just Toronto?

4 Ethereal Armor
4 Spider Umbra
4 Daybreak Coronet
3 Curious Obsession
2 Cartouche of Solidarity
2 Spirit Mantle

3 Path to Exile
2 Stubborn Denial
4 Razorverge Thicket
4 Horizon Canopy
4 Windswept Heath
3 Misty Rainforest
1 Temple Garden
1 Breeding Pool
1 Hallowed Fountain
1 Forest

1 Stubborn Denial
2 Stony Silence
2 Gaddock Teeg
2 Rest in Peace
4 Leyline of Sanctity
