How has Sea Gate Wreckage been for you? Do you get more than 2 activations? From a CA perspective, Thoughtcast and Tezzerat seem to be other options for CA. But from a utility land perspective, we could also use Academy Ruins and Inventor's Fair.
SGW is a relatively new addition to my list, so I don't want to spread misinformation and say that it's the greatest thing ever. But so far, it seems to be a quality option for grindier matchups. I remember reading a Karsten article awhile back where he was praising the card, and I kind of shrugged it off like there's not room in Affinity for it. But I'm realizing more and more that sometimes the hate is overwhelming post sideboard, and having even a slight chance to rebuild with the help of some CA after say Grudge - flashback Grudge or a board wipe is a worthwhile investment for one slot in the SB. And comparing it to a card like Thoughtcast, you may not actually get more than one activation out of SGW, but there will also be times when you draw 2 or more cards from it. All that being said, I'll try to post more of my findings regarding SGW once I have more concrete information. Cheers!
How are you guys sideboarding against RG titanshift? Been struggling with this matchup a little bit lately.
This is a tough one, and it's a matchup in which whoever draws better typically has the edge. As far as sideboarding, I like Dispatch for Prime Time, and Spellskite is decent as a hedge against Valakut. I've tried Blood Moon multiple times in the matchup and have had mixed results... It will slow them down, but they will eventually hit something like Reclamation Sage, so you have to try and win quickly if you're on the Moon plan.
Those are just a few of my experiences. I'm also interested to see what others have to say about this matchup.

I disagree on bringing in Dispatch if it's TitanShift version, I'd bet you'd rather have Galvanic Blast for the majority of the time to race. Finks or Baloth might not matter either if you have a flyer-heavy draw, so I think Blast wins here too. Of course, Dispatch is necessary against the Breach version.
Good SB cards in some combination are Thoughtseize, Spell Pierce, and Blood Moon. Don't run out Blood Moon until the turn before they can combo. Make them spend the time to get/have the Rec Sage. Play at most 2 copies of Blood Moon, don't rely on it.
I don't think Spellskite is that good, since their best hate cards are Ancient Grudge and Anger of the Gods, which Spellskite doesn't adequately answer. Play Thoughtseize instead.
You are playing against a R/G Modern deck, so understand that you're not favored post-board and will lose depending on how many Grudges they have/draw. Maximize your best goldfish with the cheapest interaction available for the best chance to steal a game.
Hi to you all! New affinity player here. I have some doubts regarding sideboarding, do you side some Steel Overseer out against UR and UWR decks? On one hand, if they survive I can make all my dudes, electrolyze proof, and some even lavamancer proof, on the other hand, is hard to stick creatures against these decks, plus jeskai can play Stony Silence in g2/g3...The match ups I definetely find very hard are Jeskai Queller, UR kiki-jiki and Jeskai Saheeli, since I'm forced to keep some number of Galvanic Blast either to deal with Queller or to stop the combo
What about BGx decks, do we keep Steel Overseer and some number of Galvanic Blast to deal with lavamancer, kalitas, olivia, ooze or not?
Thanks in advanced!
By the way, today I piloted the deck to a top 8 finish (6th) out of about 20 players. Spoiler alert: I had very long, interesting and grindy games hehehe.
Hopefully tomorrow or on tueday I can post my decklist, a brief report and what changes I'd like to do. Of course, feedback and advice will be appreciated
I side-out Steel Overseer in removal heavy match-ups but I never side-out Galvanic Blasts. I have three Etched Champions in the sideboard and I usually swap them for the Overseers.
x3 Steel Overseers: I've waffled back and forth between 3 and 4 ever since I first got the deck. Occasionally 4, more often 3. It's just such a removal magnet, fairly slow, and I end up siding it out in MU's with lots of removal (a lot of GDS in my meta).
x1 Thoughtcast: Again, personal call due to removal/discard heavy meta. Still run into the occasional scenario where it's too hard to cast even with the third memnite and am considering changing it to a single glint-nest crane. If I do, I'll probably cut a memnite for the 4th overseer.
x3 Etched Champions/ x2 Master of Etheriums: 3/2 split feels good. With so many pushes running around, tapping out for a MoE always feels a bit risky. Yes, it is significantly better in the ETron MU, but don't feel like the tradeoff in other MU's is worth it.
2/2 glimmervoid/ spire of industry: Love spire, but not quite enough to go up to 3.
x2 Blood Moon: This has won me more games than I can count. Still amazes me how rarely opponents see it coming. The drawback of hurting your manlands is minimal if you can lock your opponent out of the game.
x1 Rule of Law: Storm is the quintessential "who won the coin flip" MU. This and grafdigger help tip in our favor.
All in all, foiling my favorite deck has been a super fun (and often frustrating) project. Been playing them since darksteel and will keep jamming them until modern stops being a thing (furiously knocks on wood). Thanks for indulging me!
Against Tron I ussually go for the Infect kill since their interaction in the first 3 turns is limited. Also Oblivion Stone cannot destroy a Nexus with counters or a Plating.
bro what do you mean by an oblivion stone cannot destroy a cranial plating? thanks
Has anyone ever tried Hall of the Bandit Lord as a way to get atleast one overseer activation before removal? Assuming there was room to swap a land, my thinking is the life loss is too steep. Just wanted to see if someone tested and didn't mention in this thread.
Don't Spellskite and Welding Jar accomplish that same thing?
I had Spellskite in my main for a while but it seemed so clunky and ruined my tempo enough times for me to switch it out for Welding Jar. I'm still testing that change but it's nice not needing mana to protect your key pieces on the board turn 2 - 5 as you continue to tap out with the rest of your hand and activating manlands.

I don't think this is efficient enough, maybe if it didn't enter tapped it could be worth a try. However, if you're interested in a similar effect that people have been testing, take a look at the card Claim//Fame. In theory, you could Claim back an overseer, then during the same turn give it haste with Fame and milk an activation out of it. The more I think about claim//fame, the more I want to try it out... It seems like a nice value piece for the deck, and a trick that most opponents won't see coming. It's going on my Affinity TO DO list

I like the spice of Hall of the Bandit Lord, I just would find out hard in Affinity's build. The land base is really clutch most of the time with maybe 1-2 flex lands most of time. It doesn't help in that the land comes into play always tapped and you have to bolt oneself in getting a hasty creature.

It also showed up in the top 8 affinity decklist at the SCG. Definitely interesting/ worth noting.
In regards to the bandit lord, coming into play tapped makes it a non-starter IMO. It takes away the ability to turn 1 a steel overseer and makes a 1 lander with it in hand significantly worse than a 1 lander with, say, a glimmervoid.
I would play that list. It doesn't seem to obscure - pukes it's hand and then makes fatties as the game progresses. Plus it has extensive reach. I feel like a few years back someone made Top 8 of a big tourney with Tarmo's.
IDK how good Ensoul Artifact is right now though - pushes, hurkyl's recall =, shatterstorm, etc. Getting 2-for-1'ed isn't optimal, but it may be worth the 5 damage and fast clock.
I'm aware that Fling and Shrapnel Blast do basically the same thing; I can't explain why Fling is fun and Shrapnel Blast isn't. That's one of those mysteries we may never unravel.
Just bought into this deck (as in, picked up a bunch of cards), haven't made a list yet, or played any version of Affinity in a couple years at this point.
I've been thinking, one of the problems the deck seems to have, is running out of cards in hand. Some builds try to deal with that by using Thoughtcast. Would it be possible in a 0 drop heavy build to use Paradoxical Outcome? I would think that between Ornithopter, Memnite, Mox Opal, Welding Jar, and Springleaf Drum it might be possible to string together enough cards that can be picked up, that you could refill your hand nicely at the cost of one attack step.
I dont believe that that card would be TOO trouble some if you return drums, opals, platings and maybe a creature or two (though i wouldnt return any creatures)
It could be okay as a 1 of but 4 mana is a fat stretch in my opinion. Thoughtcast is just straight up better and does a pretty good job as is.
