The only card you need to worry about in the merfolk matchup is Hurkyl's Recall. Just side in Spell Pierce or Stubborn Denial, and mulligan to an aggressive hand.
Im gonna get in now pre hindsight and say that days undoing is not going to work for affinity. There are gonna be a bunch of matches where casting it is a terrible idea (infect, burn, mirror match, twin, griselbrand, bloom) and the grindy attrition matchups you do wanna cast it like jund odds are the inquisitioning it away T1 anyways (i know thats a weak excuse not to run a card, but if they dont take it early and you cast it late post board your pretty much giving them a free shatterstorm.) Just my two cents i just feel like people are judging this card based on the nut draw turn one drop your hand and days undoing double opal hand, which is a very poor way to assess a card
Not saying it's going to be played or not, but saying that it helps our opponents draw hate is the opposite of magical christmas land. It's the anti-magical christmas land. If they don't have it, it can help them draw into it. If they do have it, you just made them get rid of it. It goes both ways.
Not to mention, what hate are we talking about?
Shatterstorm, and you just drew a whole new hand, who cares if they blow everything up once.
Stony Silence, a days undoing deck probably wants to play more of a real affinity (mechanic) type deck and stony silence wouldn't be as good against it.
My point is just that saying the worst case scenario is going to happen is the exact same as everyone saying the best case scenario is going to happen.
Just my two cents. I haven't tested it like you have so I don't know anything about the card yet
Okay so you days undoing draw a new grip of seven after unloading timewalk yourself cause of the mana cost. Next turn they drop there shatterstorm/corrosion and clear your board. Next turn you reload the field. Your effectivly timewalking yourself out of two combat phases with this line, and at that point on there turn they will just twin for the win. Although i can see how altering the current deck state ( frogmites with Days undoing etc) is definitely warranting testplay as i havent considering altering the core of the deck as an option
my sentiment is hangarback walker is the better cards to helpus recover from a board wipe. it is also more synergistic with ravager and overseer and signal pest. I foreseemyself playing with at least 2 of it mainboard. as for day undoing, I will still prefer thoughtcast over it as it don't give opponent a chance. the thing is we want advantage and nod deny advantage to opponent, day undoing did not fulfil that criteria.
Has anyone talked about Ghirapur Æther Grid yet? I feel like I always beat affinity with lingering souls. This answers lingering souls and other small blockers that want to trade as well as just deal with any sort of board stall. It also gets around stony silence. Worth testing as a 1-3 of in the board?
Grixis Twin - lost in 2
I had hit him for one infect and the next turn got him up to 5 infect by using ravager to sac some things. Maybe not the best move but I did have lethal next turn with an attack with signal pest. I played an Etched Champion before combat (I think that was the critical error here) and he countered and bounced the Inkmoth that had 3 counters on it with a Cryptic. Game 2 was interesting. I got him down to 5. It was grindy because he played anger of the gods and I slowly beat down with Blinkmoth. On my final attack I had enough artifcats to sac from ravager to hit him for lethal. He had about 7 mana up though, so it wasn't clear what his plan was, but I knew he had SOMETHING. He also had a snapcast and tasigur in play and I was at 11. I decided to play it safe by only hitting for 2, to get him down to 3. He cast Kolaghan's Command dealing 2 to me, and destroying ravager. I had planned on blocking if need be and using my welding jar to regenerate. Even if i did use it, I couldn't have blocked. He then would have bolted me for lethal. If I had made the move to make a Blinkmoth better, he MAY have messed up his command and bolt to play around the welding jar and I may have gotten it, but either way, he DID have an out.
Other twin was I think just UR splashing green for ancient grudge.
Game one he ended up comboing maybe turn 5 or 6. Game two he didn't see any cryptics to tap everyone and I was able to whittle him away even through some removal and I think ancient grudge + flashback. Game three I actually don't remember. It may have been that I didn't see enough mana to effectively play my spells (only one threat a turn that became easy to deal with sort of thing)

How do you realistically expect to draw anything you board in?
I don't understand your question. I have Thoughtcast, I have sideboard cards that cover multiple different strategies instead of narrow answers, I don't dilute my own gameplan by over sideboarding. I don't know what you mean.
I also did see things I sideboarded in all night...so yea?
i think your list is more less ok except for the lack of another spellskite.
my boarding using your list will be
-4 steel overseer
-3 thoughtcast
+2 wear//tear
+1 dimember
+1 torpor orb
+1 etched champion
+1 spellskite
+1 grafsdigger's cage
the grafsdigger's cage might seems odd, but basically i am trying to stop his flashback. it limit his answer.
i think you have seen where your play had gone wrong. against kolaghan's command, you can't be hasty. ravager and spellskite are the key to messing up their match.
against UR twin, i will consider cut 1 wear//tear and add in 1 spell pierce. minus land screwed variance, you are not well positioned to fight twin game 1. you only have 2 cards mainboard against them which is quite bad. post board it gets better, but you will have to keep up at least 1-2 mana source and a card in hand to pull bluff to delay them from comboing off.
thoughtcast seems good, but not in twin match-up as you need to keep mana up as opposed to be more proactive. you need more removal against them. that is where the mainboard spellskite and 4 galvanic blast build have an advantage over twin pre board and post board. having 6 answer mainboard and another 2-3 answer sideboard. i think this so far my experience playing against twin and how i play against them. hope it helps improve your game.
What is everybody's thoughts on Kolaghan's Command? Is affinity just gonna have a lot of bad match-ups for a while as long as main-deck artifact hate is running around? Or should I not be very concerned?
kolaghan's make our play more difficult but not unwinnable. there are a few key keys against decks running kolaghan's command. arcbound ravager, spellskite and etched champion are crucial. also do not be hasty in transferring modular in these match-up as they can respond. you can redirect both the deal 2 damage and destroy artifact to spellskite and respond to sac to ravager to get the most value. compare kolaghan's command with kataki and stoy silence, we have a better chance. main thing just don't be greedy in such match-up. you need to e patiant to wait for them to make wrong calculation. as you can see affinity win rate is still pretty high compared to jund and grixis control and such tells that it is not a fatal hate card to us. just play carefully and you can steal the win from them.
my first encounter tells me oh no, but after a few match and careful playing and analysis, i realize it is not so scary as compared to stony silence. i think that is the most important thing psychologically that can hamper clear thinking on dealing with this card. get a few friend who are playing this card and practice playing around it to find the tricks to play around it. hope it is helpful in helping you combating this card.
I personally am 100% ok playing against Kolaghan's Command. While the card is really good, it is not just an auto lose card. The decks that are playing it have been cutting down on the super hard hate cards making things overall, at least from what I have played, easier.
