I'm kind of unsure of running 4 Memnite. Drawing them when you don't need him really sucks. But he increases the chance of T1 2-drop quite a bit. Thoughts?
No I think 2 Memnite is correct, the first place list only ran 2 Memnite. I would never run more than 2. The 3rd for me is almost always Welding Jar, and its ALWAYS been better than a Memnite.
Just wanted to let you know that Ensoul Artifact is the real deal. I participated in a 197 person PTQ today in Nagoya, Japan (national holiday), and I ended up going 5-3 with Affinity myself. Here's how the event finished:
Top 8: affinity, UR/g twin, goyf affinity, merfolk, UR twin, UR possibility storm, kiki pod, RW/b burn
Top 4: affinity, merfolk, RU/g twin, & affinity goyf.
Both affinity decks were using Ensoul Artifact as a 4 of and it was pretty damn strong. And yes, somebody jammed Tarmogoyf into an Affinity deck. I saw lots of Darksteel Citadel + Ensoul Artifact all day. They are calling it Scissors Affinity over here in Japan. Hopefully the list will be out in the next few days. Will post it if I can unless somebody else does.
Tarmogoyf seems like a clever addition to an affinity deck running Ensoul Artifact. Even if you do get 2 for 1'd it still pumps up Goyf.
Hey guys, i'm new to playing affinity, and my metagame is full of melira pod and jund with a merfolk player or two in there as well. I didn't know if anyone could give me any sideboarding tips and tricks for these match-ups?
Round 1 - Merfolk lost 1-2
Won game 1 can't remember much.
Lost game 2 to a hurklys recall
Lost game 3... I turn 1 thoughtseized, he kept a one land hand with two recalls and ripped a land on his second draw.
Round 2 - Infect Won 2-0
Didn't even draw spellskites, and fought through lots of natures claims and some 2/2 infect for 3 that comes into play and destroys an artifact.
Round 3 - BGW Lingering Rock lost 1-2
Won game 1 due to spellskite protecting my ensoul artifact and vault skirge with plating on it.
Game 2 and 3 he goes turn 2 stony turn 3 drown in sorrow....
Noteworthy that I almost won on ensouling a plating in game 2.
Round 4 - U/R Storm Won 2-0
Game 1, I turn 3 ensoul my inkmoth and ravager it
Game 2, I turn 2 Rule of Law...
Here's my list
Creatures - 28
4 Ornithopter
3 Memnite
4 Vault Skirge
4 Signal Pest
4 Arcbound Ravager
3 Spellskite
3 Steel Overseer
3 Etched Champion
I haven't been playing Modern Affinity for very long, but 2 Etched Champions in hand just feel bad to me. My hand always gets clogged up with this guy. I realize he is good, but is anybody else experiencing this? There are times when the card is amazing and other times when I really don't like him. Thoughts?
It's just a shuffling issue...if you keep getting clogged with EC then drop him down to 3, but no less.
I already play him at 3. 4 Ravager, 3 Champion, 3 Overseer, etc. Pretty standard build. I just hate having 2 Champions in hand, and it happens way too often. There are also games when you explode and the Champion just sits in hand. It's a really baller card when you play it, but it feels so clunky. I debated replacing 1 with Master of Etherium, but there is a lot of UWR Midrange where I play.
Oh okay, so you already have him down to 3. Now, is it your dislike for EC in multiples or EC just being a 2/2 without CP? I would assume the latter as you mentioned MoE, but you tell me.
Thoughtseize in most MU will be for SB hatecards like Kataki, Stony Silence, Creeping Corosion, any mass removal and for combo pieces like Splinter Twin, Ad Nauseam. I don't think you need it in MB.
My testing has proved the same. It's mostly to snipe those sideboard hate cards as mentioned. I found it mostly lackluster MD , and I pretty much would always rather have had a Galvanic Blast, either to snipe a Melira, Sylvok Outcast or a Splinter Twin target, etc.
It was also a Horrible top deck if not in the opening hand and drawn after about turn 3. It made me almost not even want it in the SB anymore…
PTQ on Saturday, I'm running Affinity. Need advice on sideboad.
1 Grafdigger's Cage
1 Torpor Orb
2 Ethersworn Canonist
2 Phyrexian Revoker
2 Spellskite
1 Blood moon
2 Nature's Claim (Can't find my 2nd one. If LGS doesn't have one, looking at using Back to Nature or Ancient Grudge)
3 Thoughtseize
1 Whipflare
I've been seeing a few lists that run Choke as a one-of. The big question is if it's worth it?
Thoughts?

Do you need graveyard hate? Maybe a Relic of Progenitius or two? I have never run Claim or Revoker in my side. Also, what is in your maindeck. If you're not running 4x Blast and Etched Champion, you can run some of those in your side as well.
I am thinking of running 2x Gutshot in my side, just to deal with Kataki on top of my 4x Galvanic Blast.
Nice, that is basically what I'm going to be playing unless I go with Melira Pod. I am making room for Welding Jar because I am expecting a lot of GBx decks and I plan on having 4x champions available to me through SB. I would much rather have 4x Thoughtseize as anti-storm hate over 2x Canonist. You are light on anti-affinity cards in your s/b as well.

I'm not completely sure what to expect for meta. This is the Albuquerque PTQ, and there will be a lot of people from the LGSs that I never go to. Would I be correct in just planning for the normal spread of Pod, Tarmotwin, RUG Delver, Scapeshift, Affinity, and the occasional Living End? I think B/W Tokens has been on the rise partly due to the Modern Event deck, hence the Whipflare in the SB. Testing has shown that Bogles is a REALLY bad MU, so the Whipflare helps but I also am tempted to jam a Back to Nature in the SB. I've been seeing/hearing about more Scapeshift being playing since it won a GP, and I've actually seen a few Affinity decks running two copies of Blood Moon in the side.
Serious talk: Mark of Asylum is a card that I think has real potential against Delver and any burn.
I'm always torn between Galvanic Blast and Dispatch because Dispatch can get rid of a nasty Goyf. Exiling is also a very Real Thing and can majorly upset their plans. (I'm looking at you Reveillark and Finks.) Maybe some sort of GBlast/Dispatch split? I really don't know.
I have found bogles to be a pretty easy matchup. They cant deal with any of your threats so your overssers all live and ravager can make it easy to kill them in one tunr. Post side you get spellskites, thoughtseizes, whip flare, and spell pierce you just have to play smart and do lots of combat math

Ensoul is interesting though, I will test it this week and see if it's worth running in Boston.
Thanks to Heroes of the Plane Studios for the amazing sig.
