Has anyone tried Crucible of Worlds out of the board for grindier matchups? I feel like being able to replay Ghost Quarter/Tectonic Edge/Horizon Canopy in games that go longer could be a big advantage. I want to try it out, I'm just wondering if anyone has tried already and has some insight into it.
I know it's been discussed here with some decent results, you'd have to delve in the thread a little to find it though.
I know it was discussed at length in the old thread. Not sure about the new one.
Pretty sure the new one, I remember considering it as a one off main in my deck and discussing it with Hav via pm. When I'm less busy I'll try and locate the discussion.
I wouldn't call that death and taxes, but it IS an interesting list.
It's very much a DnT list, but base blue and with the changes that requires. The only reason there's no Flickerwhisp is because the manabase can't support it, and both Restoration Angel and Quickling support the ETB synergies that generally define DnT.

It's the high non creature count as well that throws me off. It's giving up Thalia for that. I dunno to me it just feels like a very different game plan over all from a death and taxes list. Though I admit I am VERY prejudiced against any non-flickerwisp list.
Crucible has been discussed in theory, but nobody has really tested it extensively and reported about it as long as I've followed this thread (around page 170 in the old thread). My stance is that a one or two of might be worth it if you're running the whole suite of Canopy/Quarter/Edge, but it doesn't really feel like a SB card, more like a MB card that you side out against fast decks. If you test it properly and report back, it would be a great contribution.
When it comes to cutting Flickerwisp, I'm very much in Sheepz' club of conservatives. It's one of the last cards I'd be willing to cut in this deck along with Vial. Its versatility just keep impressing.
At $20 apiece, I'm not sure if the word "ghetto" applies. Definitely a no-brainer include, though. I run two main and one side.

“Modern has provided us a non-rotating format that is far more accessible than Legacy or Vintage, but still retains many of the qualities that people enjoy in those formats—such as a more stable metagame, the ability to play and tweak the same deck week after week, and simply a much more powerful card pool than Standard.”

Oh haha yeah the term has nothing to do with the price. A ghetto SB card is a card that's moderately to very helpful in a lot of matchups, as opposed to being a silver bullet in a few. See Pithing Needle. Since you run it, you know well how often it gets sided in - it's actually so often that it's not a bad idea to run it main and side it out when it's not needed. I used to run one main and one side in W/W(g), but now I run two side in GW because slots got a lot tighter.

I would drop the Wall of Omens x3 and add anything that can actually win the game. My personal choice would be blade splicers.

I would drop the Wall of Omens x3 and add anything that can actually win the game. My personal choice would be blade splicers.
Wall of Omens I'm still on the fence about but in theory it allows me to grind out midrange-y decks like Jund/Junk with cantripping flyers while giving me good defense vs aggro decks. But, I would never replace them for Blade Splicers. Mostly because I think splicers are overrated and are actually pretty mediocre, they just don't do enough in my opinion and are useless in a lot of matchups. Omens at least cantrips. But again in theory, the main purpose of my version is to have V-clique + blinks to beat combo/control and have omen + blinks to beat aggro/midrange.
Also it is important to note that Wall of omens is a 2 mana card and splicer is 3. I would also probably play Kitchen Finks over Splicer.
If I were to take out Wall of omens I think a decent 2 mana blink target that still counts as "hate" would be Jötun Grunt but I don't think I would run 3 of them, maybe 2. The third spot could possibly be a Spellskite.

Well, I suppose I prefer to just win the game with an army of 3/3 first strikers than grind games out hoping to win with 0/4 walls. You are highly overrating wall of omens in this deck. How is it going to help vs affinity, burn, storm, twin, pod, jeskai control, scapeshift, or Gr tron, (ie. most of the meta); basically it is not. You say it can help grind out BGx decks, sure, but not better than a 3/3 first striker with a 1/1 chump blocker. Also, blade splicers are never worthless in ANY matchup for one simple reason, they are 4 power for 3 mana in a deck whose goal is to get the opponent to 0 life the fair way. They may not be ideal in every matchup but they are never worthless. While wall of omens is worthless in many match ups, and even as a cantrip it is a waste of 2 mana in this deck.
Your already run 8 one drops and 7 two drops which is fine, you don't really need more 2 drops. But if you really want two drops there are much better choices.
