so i have been playing this deck recently, and i am really enjoying it. swiftspear needs a deck with proactive cards, so all the counterspells are in the sideboard. burn is relevant in my meta, so i splashed white for helix, and got some paths on the way. also only playing 2 scalding tarns, as i only own 2. let me know what you think. i am looking to add two Wear // Tear to the SB, and i feel i can cut a Pierce and an Electrickery to fit them.
Could someone inform me what Twisted Image is for in this deck? Is it really just there to be a cantrip and fill the graveyard for Cruise? Is there some sort of interaction I'm missing that makes it main deck material? I can only think of how it kills Spellskite, otherwise we are literally just play Reach Through Mists which doesn't seem like a card I want in my deck when I could Thought Scour.
kills Spellskite/Hierarch/Birds, does "damage" to creatures w/ higher power than toughness (getting Restoration Angel in to bolt range for example), sometimes protects your guys from removal, gives your Swiftspear 2 more power while drawing a card

Gut Shot has been awesome for me. It's excellent against Affinity/Infect, picks off mana dorks, and it adds 2 damage to your Swiftspear if you just point it at your opponent. And it does all of this while fueling your Cruise. In games where your life total doesn't matter, it is really, really good.

There's also this really great interaction when someone flashes in Clique to block your flipped Delver and you make there Clique a 1/3.
I suppose Twisted Image also takes out Wall of Omens so your Young Pyromancer tokens can go through more easily. Not to mention make Deceiver Exarch a fragile 4/1 so it dies to most burn we have.

I feel the deck needs the pyromancer as a "raw power". when you see so many cards it's nice to have a few that ask the opponent: Do you have an answer...if not I win.
That being said if a higher power/toughness is something that is needed because of the meta i could definitely see this.
Hey Guys I think this deck is going to get much more popular with the addition of cruise so i would like some suggestions on playing the mirror. I am also looking for a spicy 1 of "raw power" card to add to my MB(not necessarily geared toward the mirror. I am thinking Sword of W&P but am open to suggestions.
From my testing i believe Remand>>Mana leak right now. Remanding a delve card is a huge swing.
Hello. I am pretty new to playing Delver however I am rather familiar with the deck, it's concept, etc. Recently, after Khans, I am really interested in all-in versions of the deck. I had some in mind and updated my ideas with ideas taken from SCG and recent posts in this thread. I 4-0'd last FNM with this list:
Wow! Let me say that I really love this deck, it might be my new favorite delver variant. I've been testing it and it does very well against most things other than burn. Have you considered running Death's Shadow over Nivmagus?
So last night I finally took the time to look into my UWR Delver build and as I tweaked it, the white became a thing of the past. Here is what I'm currently playing:
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Young Pyromancer
2 Snapcaster Mage
I got interested in this deck lately, but I haven't played it till now but I have a question: I don't own Snapcasters and don't want to spend the money. So what would be a good alternative? I lean towards 1 or 2 Grim Lavamancers, it seems like a good fit and my meta runs a lot of creature decks. But is it playable together with Treasure Cruise? Could it work if I would play a few Thought Scour?

you can do a full on agro build:
4x Young Pyromancer
4x Delver of Secrets
4x Monastery Swiftspear
2x Grim Lavamancer

If you have Vendilion Cliques on hand you could run:
4 Delver
4 Swiftspear
4 Young Pyromancer
2 Clique
That would be a pretty robust creature package. Unfortunately you miss out on being able to Snap-Bolt, which is a phenomenal late-game reach package. But, provided they don't have any flying blocks, Clique can accomplish the same thing (sorta).
I've noticed most of the decklists run 15-16 creatures. Did someone experiment with running 12? I think a set of Delver, Swiftspear, Pyromancer might be enough for this deck and it leaves space for more instants and sorceries.
Most of the original U/R Delver Decks that was able to place in the top 8 of previous tournaments only had 12 creatures, namely:
4x Young Pyromancer
4x Delver of Secrets
4x Snapcaster Mage
I think it also depends what else you're running main deck. I've been running 4 Delver, 4 Swiftspear, and 4 Pyromancer, and while it works really well a good deal of the time, sometimes I just get stuck with counters and land after my single Delver bit the dust. Going to 14 or 15 creatures ups your threat density a little without severely affecting the game plan, especially if you're not running much burn. At this point, I'm probably cutting my 2 Electrolyze for 2 Forked Bolt because my mana always bottlenecks for too long with them. I'm also going to try to find room somewhere for a pair of Twisted Image.

Before cruise and swiftspear I gave up on Delver in modern because i felt 12 threats was never enough (I don't own clique). With cruise its probably doable but I feel much better with 14-16 creatures (including man-lands as I used to run mutavault).
Against burn I've become a fan of dragon's claw. It triggers so often between both players that it's pretty effective and not all that disruptive to our plan.

Pyromancer generates a lot more power, and it can generate tokens on your first turn (assuming you don't cast it on turn 2)
