You know I never really thought of running YP in RUG Delver. I was under the notion that it was great in UR Delver but once you go RUG you replace him with Goyf. In reality when playing this deck, Goyf and Delver do a lot of the heavy lifting to win while clique and snap just give me some extra value/reach. I've been wanting to go smaller and clique and snap are really 3-4 drops. It could work running 12 legit must answer threats with a high spell count for delver/pyro and a higher sorcery count than most lists for goyf.
The other thing I was thinking of doing was a 2/2 scooze/YP split.
Is sleight of hand really necessary, or are you just running the 3 instead of lands?
No snaps just feels wrong, bolt/snap/bolt is the reason to play the deck IMO.

I love snapcaster but he is more of a control card. He is a 2 for 1 but he is a little bit slow, he is essentially a 3 or 4 mana card. I am trying to get down to a stream lined version with everything 2cmc or less. There is a reason that legacy rug delver doesn't play him but a control deck like miracles does. I think our creatures should be like legacy rug delver where we arent trying to 2 for 1 or generate value but have a constant stream of threats that will kill the opponent quickly followed by disruption in the form of burn and counter magic.
My only concern with running so many G probes and having to have all our colors in the first two turns is that we are going to be starting the game at ~14 life every game. I want to keep my spell count high, have enough sorceries for goyf and have enough cantrips to hit my first 2-3 land drops and be able to find my threats/answers. However, g probe might be doing too much damage to me. a 2-2 split between sleight of hand and g probe?

This looks really cool. I like the direction you took it with YP, excited to test this sort of shell. I've had some success with the list you posted on the last page, with 18 lands and Snapcasters. The reason I like cards like Shackles in this deck is you generally hit 5 lands every game, and you can sometimes feel stupid drawing into Pillar of Flame when that happens. I don't think 18 is a problem if you have Sleights and Probes in some number. Like I said before, I've dropped the Delvers entirely for Spellstutter Sprite but I'm thinking of switching back. My meta has a lot of Junk which is really annoying without Vapor Snag.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
Thanks. I'm still undecided on YP and G probe. They are both better vs control/combo (which we are already good vs) and allow you keep up the pressure/play around a lot of things but they are both just horrible vs aggro. I gold fished that list and it was pretty painful. I've experimented with sleight of hand a little and I really love it. It makes sure we don't go over 3-4 lands, digs into our real threat of goyf and delver, digs for reach like bolts, snaps (which I think is the best we have for modern but I would much rather have a 3 power, 1 mana and hard to deal with threat i.e. goose) and burn, is a spell which helps delver and is a sorcery to pump goyf.
The list I will be bringing to FNM tomorrow will look like this:
So I played around 12 games or so with the list above vs. Melira Pod, UWR Control and Jund before the event and lost every game. It was actually horrible haha.
With that in mind, I switched my decklist before the tournament and ended up going 3-1.
I really liked having the extra sleights as sorceries for goyf and to filter through my deck making sure I find my key cards for each matchup and not drawing over 3-4 lands. I could see them as gitaxian probes as well.
Went 3-1 vs Monoblack, Jund, U/R Tempo Twin and Melira Pod. My loss was to Jund (1-2) but the losses were super close and we played another game afterwards which I won.
Somethings to note, monoblack deck was an infect deck with phyrexian crusader, inkmoths, lots of removal, lilis and lashwrithe/couple swords/batterskull. He won game 1 and I won the next two, it was actually really tough and he ended up going 3-1 beating decks like kiki pod, melira pod and u/r delver. Funniest way to win, Game 2 he used slaughter pact on my goyf with 3 swamps out and I boom // bust for the win.
I stomped all over tempo twin. Melira pod was close but I felt I was in the lead 70% of the time, he landed a pod all 3 games.
Guy, this deck has won a 60-man tourney recently. 1 think i am unsure bout his list are the 2 flame slash. Sometimes i feel like pillar of flame is better as it destroys pod. Discuss.
I knew this deck was insane, not at all surprised to see it do well. I like Flame Slash if youre worried about spell skites, also kills deciever exarchs. I also like pillar a lot though. I could see going either way.
He was new to modern and had thrown together a human list game 1 he tried to flood the board but i stalled him with a Goyf and ended up spot removing his threats and out card advantaging him.
Game 2 pretty much the same thing except i beat him down with a V. Clique
Round 2 vs Affinity
G1 i was on the play kept a pretty loose hand didnt know what he was on. Started out git probe realized what he was playing so i dropped a land and passed, he opened with ornithopter x2 and when he cast mox opal i bolted a thopter in response to turn off metalcraft and he passes. I ended up drawing a forked bolt played a delver killed his other thopter and passed. he stuck a Steel OverSeer on t2 which got snap bolted and he conceded.
G2 he flooded the board got a cranial plating and i used spot removal to take out his equipped creatures during combat for a few turns my notes are not detailed for this game as it got really intense for a while. a Timely Hurkyl's Recall while i had a goyf at 5/6 he was at 5 life sealed the game.
Round 3 Vs UWR Control
G1 This ended pretty quickly i had an amazing hand, probe told me what he was on so i ran delver out on t1. managed a blind flip on 2 on t3 i stuck a goyf with snare back up and on his t4 i found out he wasnt running verdict he had wrath of god which got spell pierced and it was over
G2 He had all the answers and stuck a Ajani Vengeant and he resolved a sphinx's rev for 6 later on and i scooped as i couldn't beat him at that point
G3 Went along the lines of game one on his t4 after his draw i cliqued him a got rid of verdict and killed him shortly after.
Round 4 Melira pod
G1 i got an early delver and enough spot removal to tempo him out a mana leak on a pod saved me at one point bc, he was representing combo if it resolved
G2 i got him down 2 3 with lethal on the following turn but he had pod and enough mana to pay for it twice and activate so remand did nothing and he comboed out
G3 This came down to me drawing anger of the gods and clearing his board and killing him with a 4/5 goyf
Round 5 vs Rug twin
at this point i can draw to make top 8 but i really want #1 seed so i can be on the play
G1 I lose the dice roll and he threatened combo on t4 and finally went off on t5 i lost the counter war
G2 This game gets drawn out he attempts to combo on t6 i win the counter war for the twin then i surgical it seeing his hand and allowing me to take control of the game takes another 9 turns of attrition for me to get a win
G3 i stuck an early delver which he killed he ended up trying to combo around t5 on a pestermite and in response to the the tokens Etb i bolted his pestermite with the twin on it he tried to dispel but i had spell pierce
after the match he told me he should of waited for the combo in in g3 instead of trying to force it on a pestermite and i agreed with him
top 8
vs Affinity
G1 he flooded the board i countered a cranial plating early, he resolved an overseer but i electrolyzed it and a Vault skirge and took over the game with a 5/6 goyf
G2 he had a crazy good hand flooded out fast with a plating i held him off until t3 and resolved a firespout wiped his board he puts me to 9 poison with a inkmoth and i bolt snap bolt him for the win
Semifinals vs Kiki Pod
G1 i mulled to 6 and end up getting completely wrecked by him bc i did not realize he could pod all the way to combo from a 1 drop and a 2 drop on t3, his board was bird of paradise, wall of roots pod, he goes pods wall to deceiver exarch, untap pod, pod bird to phantasmal image copy exarch untap pod, pod image to restoration angel, untap pod, pod angel to kiki-jiki, i had severely miss-played the turn before by playing goyf and serum visions i hould of left mana open i derped and didn't realize he had combo potential.
G2 Delver early into spot removal, i eventually cleared his board with anger of the gods he flashed in a resto angel that met combust and i beat him down
G3 i mull to 6 while he mulls into oblivion goes to 2 and we just go through the motions it was never a real game
Finals Vs Affinity
.......... yes i met another affinity player .....
G1 i keep a quick start and he has a slow hand i pick him apart with removal while attacking in with a large 5/6 goyf
g2 this gets pretty drawn out he amasses a huge board and i draw into fire spout he sacs every thing to a ravager then puts the tokens on a Vault Skirge attacks me with his 12/12 i untap draw and threads of disloyalty his Skirge and he immediately scoops.
Won a box of Modern Masters feeling pretty good about the list the mana is a bit shaky i should probbaly go up to 19 to be safe but i have no idea what i should drop

I played my list yesterday and went 3-1. My loss was due to me being 20 minutes late and starting the tournament off 0-1. I won vs storm, merfolk and jund.
The deck played very well for the most part and I think it has game vs everything. I am glad to see other players are getting great results especially with lists similiar to mine (moving away from cryptics and shackles into higher spell counts, cheaper spells and less lands).
I think I agree with your assessment above that 19 lands is probably best, I tried 18 lands and it just didn't feel as great as I thought it would and 20 feels pretty good but I think I could do without the 20th land. How are the probes treating you? I tried a version with YP and 4 probes and hated it but I could see merit in running a couple of probes.
I think the sb could use a little more help, probably shave an EE and/or Spout and add a Flame Slash. I also don't know if I really like the Boom // Bust all that much. It is mainly for the UWR/Jund matchup but are the flex spots.
One reason I like probe is a potential series of plays go t1 probe fetch land, crack the fetch bolt your pop or creature, t2 play a 3/4 or 4/5 goyf depending on if you shocked your opp or killed a creature. It also gives valuable information

here's my latest list. i won a premier event with UR delver but switched to RUG after i found Young Pyromancer to be underwhelming. switched it out for 'goyfs.
i find myself always wanting 4 land on turn 4 and i'd rather draw the lands naturally then spend mana to find them. delver still flips reliably with serum visions and 22 spells.
i also have more expensive spells than the other lists above, especially in the sideboard like shackles, bonfire, and batterskull.
i have found the GBx matchup really hard without some powerful cards.
