I think the most notable card for bugvine has to be dakra mystic. Lets you dredge...or dredge, all while having the possibility of preventing your opponent drawing something nasty.

Dakra would not even need preliminary testing if the ability didn't cost mana to activate. as it is now, it might be good, but when we're stretched for mana as it is...

Honestly i think it's gonna be solid. It gets dredgers into the yard, it lets you dredge, it can deny resources, and no matter what mode you honestly pick, it's straight card advantage for us.

With the MTGO daily criteria shifting from 6+ dailies to 12+ dailies, it is harder for decks to get into Established based solely on their MTGO performance. DredgeVine had only 6 daily finishes since the last B&R update, so for now it's heading back down to Creation.
That said, because discussion and traffic have been very consistent in the thread, I'm giving it a sticky in Creation.
So I'm brand new to the deck, I've played against it a few times on cockatrice and my interest piqued. I'm looking to set up a list but I'd like advice on which colours to run, I like the look of the BUG build myself but if another version is just better I'll try that instead.
I saw on my thread subscription page that a mod posted and cringed. Anyway I have three open spaces I was thinking of putting in two Grim Lavamancer and a Cemetary Puca. The puca is just too much fun with gravecrawlers, once they die you make him a zombie and get them all back, and if you kill one of their big guys, you basically get him.
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

I'm planning on moving from paper to MTGO, it shouldn't take long. The deck is really cheap, my build is running about $330 for MTGO. I actually love the idea of spell pierce from the side. Toss in Izzet Charm and Thought Scour, we really don't need to be playing on our turn. Maybe thats a bit greedy though
And a huge congrats! I'm going to move your five color conglomerate to the front page!

I am running the channelfireball list. I played at my FNM last week and am planning on taking it today for TNM too.
I didn't do too well, although I didn't play much.
Round 1 vs. ? I came late to the tournament, so I started 0-1, hoping for 4-1.
Round 2 vs. BW Rogue deck. This deck was honestly maybe not even as good as a Limited deck that I could make. The guy came back to Magic after a 14 year hiatus and didn't have more than $5 invested in the deck. I was just goldfishing. I won on turn 6 and turn 5. 2-0.
Round 3 vs. Zoo. In game 1, I get a turn 2 Vengevine, then add many Zombies from Bridge a few turns later and smash. He scoops. In games 2 and 3, I basically lost to Surgical Extraction + multiple Wild Nacatl and our worst enemy and turn 2 5/6 creature, Tarmogoyf. In the final game, I made a mistake of fetching for an Overgrown Tomb instead of Blood Crypt because I had Abrupt Decay. I promptly drew 3 Faithless Looting in a row with a 4th in my graveyard. I did Abrupt Decay 1 of 3 Wild Nacatl + 2 Tarmogoyf. 1-2.
Round 4 vs. Esper Gifts. I smash him in game 1 as he doesn't have the quick Gifts/Elesh Norn and many creatures kill him. It is similar in game 2 and he really has no answer. He gets mana hosed, drawing his only 2 Swamp in the deck with a Hallowed Fountain. He is unable to cast many things and my Thoughtseize doesn't even have too good a target. I take a Snapcaster Mage so it can't block. 2-0.
Round 5 vs. ? I think the player was on Zoo, but left because his tiebreakers were atrocious. 2-0.
Yep, they were atrocious. I finish 11th place at 3-2. I guess technically I was 2-1, or 1-1 vs. established decks.

My deck from FNM Modern last week.
Went 3-2, kinda new to playing since I recently acquired all of the cards. I'm playing a Jund version with no fetches. Mana base was pretty consistent without them. Only got stuck on one one game on a mulligan to five.
Round 1: Azorius Control (2-0) : 1-0
He got stuck on lands and used up all his removal, but recursion FTW. G2, His T2 Path on my Gravecrawler helped me get my third land to stabilize. Held double LolTroll in hand after he swept the board both times. Played 1, recursed Gravecrawler w/Vengevine to out board presence him after he tapped out.
Round 2: RUG Twin (0-2) : 1-1
Combo both games before I could get a Charm online after sideboard. Nothing I could do T4 Twin/Exarch combo. He showed Green mana, but never actually saw a green spell.
Round 3: RG Aggro (2-1) : 2-1
Lost to double Goyf 4-5 walls G1. Won G2/G3 post sideboard with sweepers and IOK's.
Round 4: American Control (1-2) : 2-2
Lost against Ajani planeswalker ultimate my lands away. Won G2 with 2 T2 VV. Ran out of gas G3. He played Baneslayer. I scooped.
Round 5: Jund (2-1) : 3-2
Long match. Won G1 with Demigod recursion T8 or T9. Lost G2 to Liliana/Card advantage. Won G3 on the back of an 8/7 LolTroll.
I think I can win a decent amount of matches if I could some advice/suggestions on my sideboard. Also, how do you board against these decks in particular (biggest struggles): Pod, Twin, Zoo/Affinity Aggro
This is just my opinion and I only played the deck one week. I feel like Twin and Pod are just better than Dredgevine. I play Dredgevine because my meta doesn't actually have much Pod or Twin. There are a few decks that I only play because of the absence of these decks. Sure there are explosive plays that you can do, but overall we're more susceptible to hate and less consistent.

I think your really hurt by the lacking in saclands, this is what holds me back, I also would drop the birds to play zombies. Gravecrawler needs more zombies, I would also definitely play four bloodghasts.

Hey all, I'm new to the Dredgevine scene and I really like the synergy of the deck. This is my current list and was hoping to get some feedback for it.
I like the alternate win condition of buffing up Lotleth Troll with Varolz and smashing for a crazy amount with Trample. And as someone else pointed out, removing him means less removal targeted at our Vengevines. I put Inquisition into the sideboard because I figure that with the life loss from Fetches and Shocklands that I'm asking for a quick death by using Thoughtseize.
I have to ask, though-I know Death's Shadow and Varolz are more for fun, but they can be competitive. If I were to go for a strictly competitive deck, what other creatures should I add in in place of them? Also, I seem to have a lot of artifact removal, but I'm wondering if I'm almost too heavy on it. Rakdos Charm, Ancient Grudge, Creeping Corrosion, potentially Abrupt Decay...just feels like a lot.
I should also point out that Varolz/Shadow does allow for a turn 4 win.
T1-Overgrown Tomb, Birds of Paradise
T2-Overgrown Tomb/something that generates black or green mana, Lotleth Troll, tap Birds for red, Faithless Looting
T3-Land that generates black/green mana, Grisly Salvage, possibly tap Birds for red for another Faithless Looting, maybe take a swing with Troll, possibly discard any Vengevines with Troll
T4-Land, tap for black-Death's Shadow, Shadow hits the field and dies because your life is too high. That's creature 1 for the turn. Then tap 1BG, Varolz. That's creature 2 for the turn, any Vengevines return to play (not unreasonable to get 2 out there). Tap another black mana (or maybe Birds if needed), exile Death's Shadow. 13 counters go to Troll. Swing for 23 (4 per Vengevine x2=8 + 15 for Troll, since he'll be at least a 15/14 with the counters).
I dunno, does this seem too slow and situational? Even if you can't get this combo off, you still have the regular method of casting cheap creatures (Trolls, Birds, Crawlers, Ghasts, Shadows, Imps, etc) and discard/mill until you swarm the field with Vines. It just provides an alternate win method. If the board is stalled mid-late game, its a great way of turning your unassuming Birds into a juggernaut. I'm just worried that by taking up 4 slots devoted to a back up win combo that there's something else I could include instead, but everything else seems pretty well covered.
It seems like an awesome idea. Against control decks with counter magic out the wazoo, against aggro/burn decks, life totals will definitely be lower than you think! Death's Shadow probably won't die, especially taking damage from fetch/shock lands

Even if Shadow doesn't die, he's only 1 mana. Let's say by the late game, he ends up being just a 3/3 or 4/4, that's a pretty great investment, considering the cost. Plus, my scenario only takes into account you playing Shadow as one of your creatures to help get Vine into play. You could easily discard him with Troll, Faithless Looting or simply mill him in there and when the time comes, play some other 1-drop like Birds or Gravecrawler, then drop Varolz and just exile Shadow while he's already in the graveyard. Same effect, in the end. After all, his prime reason for being there is to let Varolz scavenge him. If you draw him late when you're low on health, you get a powerful 1-drop, which is never a bad thing.
I'm only wondering if this combo is actually worthy of competition or if I should maybe include it as a sideboard option and swap other things into my main deck. Right now, I think I'm pretty set in most regards, though I still don't know if I have too much artifact control. Rakdos Charm, Creeping Corrosion, Ancient Grudge...feels like I should almost cut one of them out. I don't really have many other means of board control either, aside from Lightning Bolt. Good to zap a creature and get it out of the way, as is Abrupt Decay, Golgari Charm and Darkblast are nice to remove smaller creatures, but I need to be careful with the charm to ensure I don't kill my own 1 Toughness creatures, which there are a lot of. I have zero countermagic available and except maybe against Affinity, I'm going to have a hard time dealing with board control. God help me if Anger of the Gods hits.
Each of those cards has a specific and unique purpose. Rakdos Charm is for Splinter Twin. Creeping Corrosion is for Affinity. Grudges deal with everything (great with flashback). Abrupt Decay deals with Liliana, Goyf, Reckoner, etc. Golgari Charm is great vs control (regen sweepers). Board control isn't what Dredgevine does. It mills your deck to recur ***** and pound your opponent with massive graveyard recursion swings

Yeah, it just dawned on me that this is an aggro/combo deck and thus it shouldn't bother me that I can't control the board. The deck isn't designed to do that.
OK, so is the Varolz/Shadow combo good enough to be main deck? It seems like it has the potential to be, but being new to Dredgevine, I want to get some opinions. If not maindeck, sideboard? Or just remove it altogether and keep it for more casual games? If its the latter, what should I replace them with?
