Taking this list to an FNM tonight. Thoughts? (i'm going to try and swap out chalice for engineered explosives tonight)
3x horizon canopy
2x gavony township
4x Ghost quarter
14 other color producing lands
4x noble hierarch
1x Birds of paradise
4x Path to exile
4x Leonin Arbiter
2x Scavenging Ooze
3x Voice of Resurgence
3x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
2x Aven Mindcensor
4x Loxodon Smiter
2x Mirran Crusader
2x Sword of War and Peace
1x Worship
1x Elspeth, knight-errant
1x Thrun
2x Wilt-leaf leige
1x Baneslayer Angel
Sideboard:
2x Chalice of the Void
2x Seal of Primordium
2x Torpor Orb
1x Linvala
1x Kataki, War's wage
2x Stony Silence
2x Qasali Pridemage
2x Rest in Peace
2x Spellskite
1x Worship
It's a relatively unknown meta for me. I predict a lot of pod and tarmo-twin type builds. Heavy green in both so I like the crusader. I hate only having 1 baneslayer but i just dont know where to cut. I'll report back after tonight.
Edit: sorry for formatting. I'm at work and don't want to take the time to figure out the fancy deck list format.
I'd probably drop the lieges and put in pridemages.
Gah...its so hard to do that for me. I love wilt leaf leige. Coming down on 3 and making for huge voices/smiters is just so wonderful. I just like him because he's really good at throwing off the math that people have to do every turn. all of a sudden they take 3-5 more damage than they planned.
That said, pridemage is really really good. I dunno.

Anthems are great if you have creatures on board. Now that Lili isn't ubiquitous I find that the elephants are enough to keep the discard decks honest. Flexibility for blowing things up and exalted all for 2cmc is too good to me to not run MD.
That said. I think 4 pridemages/seals might be a bit much. When do you bring in the seals vs pridemages? and why?
I'd probably cut a Wilt-Leaf too. But that's just a personal preference at the moment qualifying the state of Liliana OTV and Thoughseize.
If you're playing EE, I'd possibly go up to a 2nd BOP just so you have access to EE for 3 more consistently.

Honestly, how competitive is this deck? I play UWR at fnm and consistently do well with it, but that strategy has gotten boring to me so I'm looking to change to something new. I've proxied up a few versions of this deck and playtested them and enjoyed the style of play. I'm not looking to play extremely competitively, but I'd like to be able to do well at fnm.

Most people here would probably agree that it has a shot to beat anything and doesn't flat out fold to any one deck. I like that it has multiple ways to cause havoc against many styles of play and many ways to alter it based upon what you expect to see for competition. It plays more like a prison than aggro and that typically gives you an edge due to how people play against it.

Yeah, one aspect I really like is that it can really be customized for specific metas.

Yeah you're right about seals. I can probably stand to cut them. What are some suggestions to go in that spot? EE? Another worship?
As far as wilt-leaf, the only other thing I'll say is that there are a few cruel control decks lurking about in my meta. Nothing makes me happier than dumping a hand full of leiges and smiters when it goes off. But yeah, I could cut them. Ugh. It doesn't make me happy though. So much of the time I just find myself wanting a way to just do some face punching, and the 2/2's don't always get there on their own merits before some sort of combo goes off. Wilt leaf adds a splash of urgency to the deck that I think is lacking sometimes.
I do also find myself wanting another dork a lot of the time. I may have to add a 6th dork. I'm always happy to see them.
I play in a very competitive meta, and generally do well with it (if we were still in the ELO system I'd have a really healthy rating right now in modern)...
There's very few decks that you can't straight up beat, but your success is often measured by how well you know and understand and anticipate what you're going to face.
The deck has a decent skill cap to it, and really requires you to know when you are the beatdown... unlike most prison decks, you're not as able to get a "hard lock" like you would with Rishadan Port & Wasteland and Thalia with legacy D&T or in modern Mono White Enchantments or Stax variants... You basically get to a soft-lock where anything you play is generally better than what they can play reasonably... and like most Modern decks, you have to be very cognizant of your attacks. There's a lot of good builds, but a "best build" doesn't really exist. If you play against a lot of UWR, I would suggest playing Aether Vial (as a personal preference), but you don't have to. Basically, ask your questions: what do i expect to face? how do i expect to beat it?
and then...

Ironically, I cut my 6th dork. Mostly because I didn't want to cut my 3rd vial. But I felt I wanted one more non-dork creature. I couldn't think of one to play that would "fit" what I wanted, so I put in another Qasali Pridemage because it's really one of the secret shines of the deck. The decks i play against generally hate it
If the 2/2s don't get there though, you probably want some better hate, better mulligans, or start thinking about swords, worships, or rancors (or elspeth).
2 weeks of Elspeth have been very good to me. I think I've seen her 30 times thus far, and she's just done a lot, or given me the opportunity to quickly beat down the board. 5/5 flying Arbiters are saucy. But one of the downsides I've seen to it is that it really is pretty bad on stalled boards with worship out where you're not attacking, and they can actually attack into Elspeth profitiably. But that's like 10% of cases... but it's something to consider.
I'm also playing in a 1k this weekend, packing the deck, will have a nice little report on monday.

Noted. Perhaps I'll cut wilt leafs then in favor of qasali pridemages. It's rarely a bad card, I agree.
Also Elspeth is staying in my deck as well. I'm never really sorry to see her. Even in rare cases where i'm way behind on board, she provides ample distraction allowing me to regroup. She's an all-star
This is what I've been playing around with. It's currently at 57 cards so there are options for other additions to put in. I haven't been able to play lately so I have no idea if this would be competitive. Would love some help.
In your 3 spots, I'd probably try to fit something else that helps break parity and boardstates.

is there anything you might recommend? i have a pile of cards that are all just staring at me, asking to be put in. i was thinking about engineered explosives and a sword
With 2 Spellskites MB, I'd suggest Mirran Crusaders (as they're the Glass Cannon of the group), and you can negate some of the risk of them that way.
Swords would also be excellent.
Really though, it depends on what you want to beat, what you think you're going to face, and what your meta looks like.

ok. i think i'll put in 2 mirran and a sword of war and peace. modern plays every other week at my LGS so it won't be until next week when I can play it.

I'd also consider trying Linvala. She pretty solid and has evasion.

Another vote for Mirran. Exalted / Swords / Elspeth type things put him to ridiculous speed.

This is solid advice. Linvala gives us a good chance at beating Pod and Twin in game 1, and is probably one of the main cards that keeps this deck competitive.

Thank you all for the advice on Linvala. I just got my hands on a second one so I might figure it out. Would Thrun be a better option in the side for linvala in the main?
my sideboard is where i'm going to need the most help. honestly, right now it's just 3 torpor orbs. i have a stack of things for the side but i have no idea what gets played at this shop for modern.
