May be worth noting that Ugin combos with Painter's Servant to wipe all permanents below X-CMC. Typically, he'd be left as the only permanent remaining.

"Let me show you what someone with real power can create." - Liliana Vess
Wow, Ugin is going to be a powerhouse in this deck!
I am already running OStone and PVault in this deck and might just replace them with this guy. I mean, if you are spending 8 mana to wipe the board, with Ugin you also get a win condition and repeatable creature removal! Not being tutorable by Mages/Fabricate sucks but we can excuse that for the raw power he provides. This could be enough to push Blue Tron into the Tier 1.
I lost a game vs UR Delver at a tourney recently in which I had swept the board not once but twice with OStone and PVault. And I still lost that game because I didn't close it out before he Treasure Cruised his way back into more threats. If those sweepers had been Ugin, I would have won easily - I had full Tron + and just needed more finishers after sweeping. Ugin as the sweeper would let me just bolt and future creatures he would play and then let me ultimate to win - whereas OStone/PVault just sat in the grave while I frantically searched for more finishers as he was top decking creatures.
Ugin kills Karn at 3 loyalty, not sure how he ever trades in a normal situation. I'll post sideboard plans later when I have my sideboard with me, it's changed a bit.
Mtg-fan you didn't find an Expedition Map in time? Seems like you're on the wrong side of variance!
Also Chalice on 1 basically makes Treasure Cruise do nothing as they likely can cast at most 1 card drawn off of it.

Ooops, I forgot that Karn is colorless. I was thinking -7 to board wipe Karn. My fault.

No idea because my favorite decks keep getting banned or having the rules changed against them
Hey everyone! So Ugin certainly appears to be something I think I want to test in here, but I do have concerns as far as its viability is concerned. Mainly, eight mana is a lot of mana. In fact, it seems to me like eight to us is almost like fifteen for our R/G counterparts, as in if we've gotten there, we should at least be close to stable or winning by then, so I do think it's possible Ugin ends up just being a dead card in a lot of G1s against aggro strategies. That having been said, all its modes do seem like things we are legitimately interested in doing.
Now for some consideration, here's my list I've been playing for about a month or so.
Now here's some interesting things, mostly the maindeck Urborg and distinct lack of any Chalice of the Void. This is mostly due to playing in a meta with very minimal Delver decks and also for the interaction that sometimes occurs with running maindeck Dismember, Urborg, and Sundering Titan. As a result of my tuning, I've enjoyed a fair amount of 1st and 2nd place finishes locally, but there is a problem. Burn and Infect are on the rise locally, and I often feel ill prepared to deal with them. So I ask those of you who have been testing with Chalice, is it a viable solution to those decks, or am I better suited searching for a different answer?

Chalice has been great for me, I've had quite a number of Burn and Delver decks scoop after seeing a Chalice of the Void on 1 since it stops just about half their deck if they have no artifact removal, especially in Game 1. I think I can definitely say the same for Infect, since CotV X=1 stops most, if not all their pump spells such as Groundswell, Might of Old Krosa, Mutagenic Growth, Vines of Vastwood. You could add in Spellskite to shut down their plans to pump and kill you in one attack with the redirect ability. I personally maindeck it (haven't seen someone else do so, I don't find any reason not to) since it's a great early game blocker most of the time and the ability is just so useful.
How good is Ugin's ult in Mono-U Tron? I've been testing him in RG Tron, and his ult actually gets Emrakul in hand with enough lands to hardcast her around 30% of the time from my experience (including cantripping into her post-ult). That's often enough to put slow combo on tilt and fear Ugin's ult the next time he comes around. If I haven't gotten Oblivion Stone already, his ult is nigh-guaranteed to hand me one with the mana to pop it (post-cantrips, of course).
If Ugin's ult can screw over every deck that doesn't fear his -X consistently enough, he's even more likely to be a maindeck mainstay. (Oh, who am I kidding? He's likely to shove counterspells into hand and Sundering Titan/Mindslaver/tutors into play...)
Ugin does seem fantastic in this deck. I normally use Ostone with the 8 mana to swipe the board as quick as I can, and Ugin seems to do a better job against every deck but affinity, with the upside of having a win on in the field which can serve as removal ass well. The dragon seems pretty nice I will definitely test it but his high upside is of the charts

Well, I guess it's time then for me to try find some Chalices to test out then. Also, the 'Skite does seem useful now that I think about, at least to stall out Infect a bit. Just out of curiosity, how may Spellskite do you run?

I have 1 in my board. SpellSkite also shuts down boggles pretty hard, as does CotV on 1. 3 color delver is a bit of a different story, but dropping a CotV on 2 also messes them up hard. I did have one game against Delver where I went Turn 1 tron land, turn 2, tron land and CotV on 1, and turn 3 3rd tron land, CotV on 2. They just kind of looked at me like you have to be kidding. Even thought CotV on 2 hurts us, it hurts many other decks a lot more.
On a totally different topic, what do you guys think of Sphinx-Bone Wand. I stumbled across it when looking through some duel deck cards and I have a weird feeling that it could do some nasties in this deck. We run enough spells, that it could start doing some major damage, and put a nasty clock on opponents.
tomorrow im going to a big event, 40 persons so metagame its very big
ive been reading a lot today and see a lot of Chalice of the void maindecked
im thinking of -treasure mage and -solemm simulacrum for +2 chalice maindeck
also, want to play 2 OStone but dont have free space
any recommended list?

I think multiples are worth at least trying. I probably wouldn't do four though. I want to look into alternative tutors that can grab him.

Good point. He kind of reminds me of Keranos, God of Storms that is built for a tron deck. I am really excited to play him against boggles lol.

I meant his board wipe at X = 1 or 2. Otherwise he is a pretty solid clock.
I wish he did trump Karn, Liberated though. At best he trades.
