Yeah, sometimes a single activation, even over two turns, will be enough to win the game or just put you in a great position to win it. We consider the total mana needed for the full lock, but paying 12 and eating a Path to Exile is terrible. I think I would even play Inkwell Leviathan before the Colossus.
Anyway, if you take that list to some tournaments please report back with your impressions.
The difference is that Mindslaver doesn't require more than six mana. I would not want to run an 11-mana card that doesn't say You win the game, and even then it's tough.
I will still be running a single Mindslaver. I think it is a great card. I mainly just wanted something awesome I can tutor for and can kill quickly.

Yep pathing the colossus would do it, but I am assuming by that point they have used most of them on my Wurmcoils (or attempted to).
Again, the Colossus is just a fun piece of tech that demands an immediate answer or it's an 'oops I win'. This is the deck I will be building when I get home:
I am running a couple more counters than normal and only one Sad Robot (I may tweak this). I think Spellskite MB is good for this deck to absorb Paths trying to take out the Angel and BS. I am going to test 2 Rifts and 1 Aetherize MB. We have quite a bit of aggro at my LGS and these will help I think. Rift could be too slow though, in which case I will bring in another Aetherize. The heavy aggro is another reason I have Spellskite in the main board.
If you want to run Blightsteel, run Chalice to stop Path?
I will be running them SB and bringing them in quite often. For MB I will be using Spellskite to take Path since it is relevant in pretty much every matchup.
I posted my deck here at Mono-U Tron thread because I still play it as it is compared to how the guys would play it in Izzetron thread. I have played so many non-meta modern lists that sported Iona, and Mistcutter Hydra'd Hatebears, and I'd like to mention Banefire in all of these games. Past X=10 and it is game. If I could change or add something in the deck, I'll add more Banefire of you ask me. Blightsteel Colossus was always a shocker. They'd expect an Emrakul but would lose due to infect instead. Also, the colossus serves to be the alternate win-con in games where Wurmcoils are out or exiled. Oh and I have play tested with Soul Sisters and other weird lifegain modern decks, we were playing at high 50-100s life, he lost via infect.
Downside though I'm not running any Sundering Titans that can disrupt the opponent's plan. I haven't tested a list without any Solemn Simulacrum because really it is a good card advantage for us, and it's on the curve; it is one of those "glue cards" that make the deck run faster and smoother.
Please don't make crap up. This is such an obvious word vomit it's ridiculous. Something about the internet and people thinking they need to say something to fit in..
Like, versus UW Tron you could search their Tec Edge and kill one of their lands, Gifts for nothing, Thirst and discard anything but lands etc.
Point of order: Wouldn't gifting for say... Gifts and something like snapcaster be better? Or even just gifts for gifts?
Yeah, "Gifts for nothing" refers to getting a bunch of dead stuff or stuff that you can use to screw them. For example, taking Duke's UW Tron list as an example and assuming they have enough mana, you could Gifts for Revelation, Expedition Map, Batterskull, Batterskull, dump the Batterskulls Gifts, dump Batterskull and Gifts, Rev for 0 and crack the Map for an useless land. You could D-Sphere/Disenchant to destroy their mana rocks etc. Whatever causes most damage to their position.
Hah, gee, late night post. You obviously can't get two cards with the same name! Brain fart there :), thanks for pointing out.
The idea is do the worst possible choice for them, wasting wincons and/or worsening their board position. What you can do if you want to dump both Batterskulls (assuming they have enough mana) is Gifts for Batterskull, Gifts, two other cards, dump Batterskull, then Gifts again and get the other. So it's actually a two step process, given you can't get more than one copy at once. If you have the lock you can just do this over the course of many turns so in the end you have dumped all their Gifts, TfK and Batterskulls.
Tough matchup, but not auto-lose. G1 I usually sandbag some cards like Talismans to discard to Wrench Mind or stop some of the life loss.
After board you could use Spell Piece if you have them. Repeals are also very good. Just side out bad top decks and bring live cards. Go for a Wurmcoil or Mindslaver (even a single activation) ASAP. Sandbag extra cards if you can.

Good call. One Mindslaver would really do it I think.
Also, Chalice set at 1 would hurt (takes out Raven's Crime (if they run it), IoK, and Thoughtseize).
On the teeny red splash, I wasn't in love with Banefire so much as I like the idea of some of the SB options. Like Earthquake against fish, which is definitely a problem for us.

Some people like to win MtG matches in the Red Zone. I prefer to win the way God intended: on the stack.
I'm thinking of running the original list with -1 mindslaver +1 oblivion stone in the maindeck. I almost want to go to 3 oblivion stones -- I love that card and I'm still using Treasure Mages rather than Fabricate so I can't search for them.
We had a 2nd OStone in the sideboard a while back, but having Fabricate maindeck has tested much, much better than Treasure Mage. Actually, the traditionally bad matchups are good with a Fabricate toolbox. I win against all of the Tarmogoyfs by Fabricating for Relic more often than not.
So far I am loving Fabricate. What I give up in a little blocker i make up for in efficiency. I can get anything I need: Pithing Needle, Relic, Chalice, Map, Blightsteel, Wurmcoil, Platinum. It's awesome.
Fabricate for an Engineered Explosives is just magical, and saves games. It's better, IMO, in control shell Tron lists, as we care more about the mid-late game, and don;t need the beater that bad. We have Tiago for that, and that is more incidental, as his main purpose is to re-buy spells, usually cantrip-ing(for list that run him, and those who run the Gifts engine).
EDIT: @ M@lcontent: How have the earthquakes been treating you? What is it's success over cards like pyroclasm or firespout?

See I can't see the reasoning for running EE.
You can only hit two counters if you splash in the land base or if you have the talismans. I don't see the reasoning for splashing shocks or a different color basic (sad robot fetch). This isn't UW and I don't believe in the UR list - it has it's own forum lol.
How often is EE a better fetch than O-Stone? Snapcaster? What?
Am I in the right thread?
