I am still working on the sideboard. I am also still deciding on whether I want to keep the Cloudshifts (though they have been working pretty well), whether I want to replace Detention Sphere with Threads of Disloyalty or Dismember, and on whether I want to replace the Sword of Fire and Ice with another Sword of Feast and Famine.
You are running very little cards that require multiple colored casting costs, which begs the question why you are running Mystic Gate? I don't like filters unless you are running some very intensive colored casting costs. Without Cryptic Command or other crazy cards I feel as though it will be more harmful than helpful. I'd switch them with Hallowed Fountains which I imagine will not only be cheaper, but more useful as well.

Fair enough. I just was worried about the life loss and didn't want any of it if it was unnecessary.
Hi guys! I'm new to this thread and I was hoping to get your thoughts on my deck. I'm finding it an interesting challenge to play midrange as opposed to straight control. Above is the current list as it stands after the last round of play testing. My tentative plans are to add 4x Spell Snare (replacing Negate), and 1x Sword of War and Peace (replacing 1 Detention Sphere). What do you guys think?

You most certainly are not playing enough lands with 2 Sphinx's Rev, 1 Jace and 1 Venser in the deck. Go up to 25.
You're playing too many basic Plains. Switch some out for Islands, you'll need those for Sphinx's Rev and Cryptic.
Move Pithing Needle to the SB.
Lastly: do you have a good reason for not including Snapcaster Mage?
Well, the only reason I don't run Snapcaster Mage is because I don't own him. I have 1 Snapcaster which I got before the price skyrocketed. He's out of my price range for the time being.

I prefer a bunch of 2- or 1-ofs in the sideboard. There should be enough overlap that you can bring in 4+ cards for every matchup if necessary.
With regards to your suggestions: Disenchant is alright, Hurkyl's Recall is worse than Stony Silence, Ethersworn Canonist/Rule of Law is better than Mindbreak Trap (but you don't need much help against Storm anyway).
I really love this deck. I played astral slide when it was standard and so it was easy to become fond of Restoration Angel. Modern has blown up in my area and we now have two regular modern tournaments through the week and I like to switch up my deck each time I go. Anyways, I am always looking for new decks and this one is surely going to make the rotation. I'm keeping my mtg funds pretty tied up in other decks at the moment so Geist of St Traft, Elspeth and Vendilion Clique are not really options at the moment. I have everything else available.
What I would really be interested in is a slightly more casual, but fun version of this deck. I have tier 1 decks already, and I don't like to show up to every tournament at our local store packing heat for a grand prix as I find that kind of behavior really douchey, especially for new players.
I apologize for the tangent, I realize most people are not reading this thread for budget options, but I am curious to know if anyone has had success with some budget cards. And if so, what cards might those be? I like the idea of using Venser, the sojourner, stonehorn dignitary, seht's tiger, and momentary blink. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
you sure that you played slide...it was completely different from uw midrange...
'I played a deck that had plains and some angels in it, so I like this one because it has plains and angels in it' lol

I guess you could say that they have blink/flicker effects in common. You know, because the ability of Astral Slide flickers a creature and the ability of the angel...well...I should not really have to spell it out. I think that is enough to make a connection of nostalgia, I was not really planning on running cycling or anything like that if that is what you were concerned about. But I am guessing that you glanced at that first sentence or two, came up with a sarcastic retort and giggled yourself silly posting it (hence the lol, I would assume.) I am glad I could provide you the pleasure.
Well, I ended up picking up some Geists as a throw-in on a trade, so I officially remove my request for cheaper ideas on this deck. Especially since nothing of substance was offered.
It depends on your gameplan. Geist needs support like Elspeth, or burn spells like lightning bolt so to clear blockers out of the way for him to connect efficiently. In straight U/W I wouldnt be using Geist because their is no efficient removal you want to use just the kill blockers, as in the case with path to exile, you want to use path to kill troublesome creatures that may harm you or manlands. This deck aims more the midrange to late game, so using cards like Restoration Angel, wall of omens, vendilion clique, snapcaster mage create a value package. Your late game cards like Gideon Jura/Elspeth/Batterskull/Celestial Colonnade/Sphinx Revelations help make sure you pull ahead and win in the long haul, while piggybacking the midgame from the value creatures and countermagic support. The creatures value package helps create card advanatage, as well as the straight draw power of Sphinxs Revelations. So, in this regard, Geist does not fit the strategy. If you want to play with Geist, that is fine, but I think he is beter in UWR as they have the better support spells for him, plus the reach with burn damage etc.
Surprised no ones talking about this deck. It's numbers are pretty high on modo and I've been having a lot success in 8man grinding as well as dailies. My favorite thing has to be the versatility, being able to control the early game and then put the opponent on a fast clock with Geist, clique and resto is powerful. One of the cards I've been seeing in builds lately that I'm not fond is wall of omens. After playing around with it I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't do anything. The value with resto is nice, and it eats Lili edicts but it blocks absolutely nothing. Affinity, twin, and even pod can fly right over it and it's dead against combo. I prefer running serum visions and calling it a day. A lot of people seem to be shying away from Geist right now, but I'm still fond of him. The clock against combo is huge and nacatls are extremely rare. When I do play against zoo and the like I just side him out for wraths and play control. Anybody else on this deck right now have any thoughts?
Wall of Omens can block something in a pinch, and at the least it acts as a cantrip, perhaps even two if you use Restoration Angel on it. Geist, it just seems horrible in general as of now since everyone is on creatures for the most part. I see enough dorks to make me shy away, for now. I mean if your hellbent on Geist, maybe some sort of sword package could be sweet, to give him pro color and smash face, but thats the only way I would play him. I dont know why no one is talking about the deck, as it is very customize able and flexible.
Yea ive actually been running a sword of feast and famine which gets geist through dorks and is awesome in control mirrors.I don't know every time I draw wall I wish it was something else. The value with resto is nice, but at the end of the day it's just a cantripping wall. If zoo picks up ill probably run it, but right now with so much combo around I just want to end games as quickly as possible. My main grudge against wall is that it doesn't block anything in affinity and doesn't speed up the clock. I like to control the early turns and then turn aggro though so I can see wall being useful in some builds.
Well, im guessing the point of wall is it is something to do on turn two if you dont have a reactive play that draws a card that may get you closer to where you want to be. Drawing the card is the main thing, and unlike serum visions, it can be retriggereed by Restoration angel for more draw power if need be.
Yea wall of omens definitely creates a value package with restoration angel. I've been running kitchen finks in that creature slot though even though in comes down a turn later, which can be a huge difference against aggro, it wears swords better. Here's the list I've been running. Not sure what the better sword is here though
1. Kitchen Finks and Reveillark are in the graveyard. Mirror Entity is on the field.
2. Cast Body Double targeting kitchen finks.
3. Activate Mirror Entity for 0 a billion times, retaining priority after each activation.
4. Put a billion on the stack and let the first resolve. Mirror and finksdouble insta die.
5. Finksdouble persist trigger brings back in a body double with a counter. Still have 999,999,999 0's on the stack.
6. Choose to copy 'lark.
7. Let another 0 resolve killing your 3/2 Reveillark. He dies giving you trigger. He returns himself copying a kitchen finks with no counter and you could bring back something else.
8. Now you just keep looping with the rest of the 0's on stack alternating between copying lark off of persist and finks when you return with lark trigger.
I'm 99% positive that works. A judge clarification would be awesome, but it should work as far as I can see.
You could save yourself a lot of headache with Inquisitor Exarch instead of Kitchen Finks. It gives you the "infinite" life combo much more easily and also adds an "infinite" damage combo.

“Modern has provided us a non-rotating format that is far more accessible than Legacy or Vintage, but still retains many of the qualities that people enjoy in those formats—such as a more stable metagame, the ability to play and tweak the same deck week after week, and simply a much more powerful card pool than Standard.”

Haha oops. There's definitely 4 snapcasters I don't know how I left those out. Yea I've been think about moorland haunt. I think elspeth might be better than swords though. I just really like running swords
