Heroic intervention is a good card. The problem with it is we have to draw into it. Not that that's bad, just harder for us to do. If we see one of a Coco or Lead, we have to put it on the bottom. And it potentially makes CoCo and Lead worse as you have to take out creatures to make room. Not that it's impossible to play by any means.
How do you feel splashing white is more painful?
When I splashed white, I had to add 4 fetches and 3 shocks. Painful.
U dont have to have 7 sources of white. I play Abzan with 4 windswepts, 1 temple garden and 1 overgrown tomb. the rest are the usual painless palaces and marshes.
1. The white "splash" for the selfless spirit isn't really a splash. You're usually chording for the spirit.
2. Having a reasonable access to white is just for the sake of being able to cast Selfless spirit IF you draw it.
With regards to heroic intervention, you'd have to substitute how many cards in the main out for your 4 copies of "wipe counters"? Are you going to drop chords? Elves? With Selfless spirit you change out one other 2 cmc creature (skite, or visionary) and you're ready.
A much better noncreature spell, if you'd like one, is Lead the Stampede. It works even if your opponent doesn't draw a wipe, and can fit into the main plan.

I agree with you. In the off chance we that I do draw it I wanted to be able to cast it. Personally I think Horizon Canopy is just too good not to use and the other white sources are just for good measure. Are they needed? I'm not sure. I haven't really been in a situation where it has been an issue. In the off chance I can't get a black mana source, I also run two Elves of the Deep Shadows.
I also run two Pay No Heed in the Sideboard that I need white available to cast.

I would be running 4 horizon canopies instead of 4 windswepts + temple garden, but the price of 1 horizon canopy = the price of all 4 fetches plus the shock.
As a side bonus, the fetches enable the occasional 2/3 Narnam Renegade.

Yeah Horizon Canopy not only damages your life total, it also damages your pocket book. I considered running fetches for Narnam, but I came to the conclusion that I didn't really care about that. I was more interested in the death touch. A lot of people are scared of it and will target that over a mana dork.
Someone top 8d a huge tournament here with Elves. I'm gon a post the list once I get it. I saw some of his matches and he was running Glissa, the Traitor in the side. He said he uses it against Eldrazi and Goyf decks. Saw him chord for it against Reality Smasher. His opponent's face was priceless lol

Seems great against Eldrazi, seems horrible against Goyf decks though.
Thoughts on chalice of the void on zero out of the side to deal with the new cheeri0s deck? Could even bring it in for affinity and setting on 1 on turn 2 is fine if we have a cavern in play if we can shut down an opposing deck with it.
Trying to proactively think of outs to the deck. It would allow us to proactively shut them off of the engine if were on the play without sacrificing any speed really.
Not thrilled about it being a non creature, but the idea of witch printkng a chalice on a stick sounds broken in half to me...could you imagine the salt?...the tilt? Erhnm, I digress...
Anyone else brewing outs to the pure steel/sram builds? Supposedly the deck has legs.
Somehow, I completely forgot that Glissa, the traitor was a thing. Talk about tutorable removal, and it could be run at one copy in the BG variant easily. I'm probably gonna try it out. Looks fun.

Why would Glissa be good against Eldrazi and goyfs? We don't run significant artifacts worth bringing back...

Glissa is the single best road bump against non-evasive creatures.
I ran glissa for a good part of last year. If you have a lot of reality smashers, kalitas, wurmcoils and generally huge fatties to deal with, she's basically a chordable removal spell.
I dunno about running her now, though, that we have a 1 cmc option in Narnam Renegade. We lose first strike, sure, and you have to take 3 damage from smasher, but chording for 1 is a lot easier than 3.
I've been maindecking a singleton Narnam for ambush purposes. So far he's caught 1 goyf and 1 raging ravine.

Us G/B folk have Thoughtseize and Dismember, the GW/Abzan folk have Eidolon of Rhetoric, Path, Thalia 1 - we should be fine here.

I agree. Maybe Stain the Mind will come in handy for GB too.
I play an Abzan List, but this is one of the reasons that I like having Chord. If you aren't getting the pieces you can search for them. It's not a "combo" deck, but it kind of acts like one. It is really hard to win games if you don't have an Ezuri, Archdruid, or enough elves in play to get your Shaman triggers. I run 1 Chord and 3 Lead main with 2 Chord in the Sideboard so I can get my bullets if need be. Lead allows you to get a little more aggressive with Mulligans as it will rebuild your hand with creatures quickly. In my meta, the only decks I feel I have to sideboard heavy against are decks with a lot of removal such as: Jund, burn, etc.
Bad draws are bad draws, however.
I highly advocate this response. The variance of draws and speed can be mitigated by mulliganing and Lead The Stampede makes those mulligans much better!
Yep, sound advice for sure. I'll be proxying Chords the next time I play casually, as well as trying out new cards from the side like Lifecrafter's Bestiary.
On any given Friday I could reasonably expect to encounter any of the following at my LGS:
G/W Tron; Eldrazi Tron; Infect (sometimes x2); Ad Nauseum; Burn (but rarely); Bant Eldrazi; Affinity; American Control (but rarely); Grixis (both Aggro and Control variants); Jund; and Hatebears (but rarely.) This might seem like a lot of decks, but one player plays Infect, Bant Eldrazi, Affinity, and bother versions of Grixis depending on how he feels, so the number of players is between 6 and 8.
I play Abzan Elves with Chord of Calling and Collected Company. My current sideboard is pretty standard and includes:
However, after last week's horrible, bad, no-good punts against G/W Tron (which I should have won but, alas, alas, I am stupid) and Ad Nauseum (which seems like a difficult matchup under most circumstances), I am thinking of modifying my sideboard to be more hatebeary and controlling. In general, I am not super satisfied with: Fracturing Gust because I'd rather chord for Kataki, War's Wage or Reclamation Sage; Kitchen Finks because I feel like the burn matchup is too dependent upon who's on the play; and Eternal Witness because meh? I am on the fence about Burrenton Forge-Tender and Chameleon Colossus, but they might stay. I am thinking tonight I run:
I'm curious as to why you chose pithing needle after saying you would rather chord for Kataki over Gust. You could just add another Revoker in that case

Or alternatively
First-Strike + Deathtouch = Spot Removal Magnet
Either is fine by me. If Glissa ends up saving Ezuri, I'm pretty fine with that.

Eidolon of Rhetoric slows them down considerably though a bit slow.
Cheeri0s relies on Grapeshot so our old pal Burrenton Forge-Tender comes in handy.Never mind, BFT only blocks one copy.

I'm pretty sure Burrenton Forge-Tender only nullifies one damage off Grapeshot.
