My comment on UW was entirely speculative. I only thought of it because my buddy is on that list. I did actually do some testing against it and went 2-0 before boarding and 2-0 after so I think I can safely retract my statement. I think their switch to Spell Quellers cutting counterspells weakened their matchup against Skred a lot.
They never had a decent matchup against us. If anything, they got better at the matchup. We just have too many threats, and too many answers to their things. Relic destroys their snapcaster shenanigans, and their paths and verdicts don't do much against Koth/Stormbreath.
Our hastey boys dunk on gideon if they ever tap out for it
While I mostly agree, it's not an unloseable matchup. Some things that can happen:
- You keep a land-lite hand and get Spreading Seas'd.
- You keep a Blood Moon hand and they've got basics.
- You keep a threat-lite hand and they resolve something like Gideon Jura.
But yeah, it's definitely still a good matchup for us.
i'm still brewing with my list but does anyone have a good start for a sideboard for a completely unknown meta? i was told there would be jeskai, GDS, affinity, burn, some brews. just a starting point, really, is what i'm looking for. any "this card def" kind of thing.
Some combination of Shatterstorm, Vandalblast, By Force, and/or Shattering Spree is a must for Affinity and the ever rising Lantern Control. I would pack some number of Goblin Rabblemaster (at least two but some even go up to the full playset) to race combo and Tron, along with being a must answer threat against Control. Pyrite Spellbomb is great as extra removal that conveniently hits Master of Waves. Packing extra sweepers such as Volcanic Fallout or Kozilek's Return can be useful if you expect a lot of aggro, and Ratchet Bomb fills a similar role but has much more utility for getting rid of any problematic permanent. I've always liked having at least three copies of Dragon's Claw because you're practically guaranteed to run across Burn. Some people like playing a fourth Blood Moon in the sideboard, but I personally disagree with it. Pithing Needle is a great catch-all for anything from Lightning Storm to Karn, Liberated. If you like trying out new things, I've been playing three Ensnaring Bridges in the side for a few months and they've been great, but many feel that they simply aren't good, which may be correct. Against most three color decks, Tron, and combo, I like a couple copies of Molten Rain to set them back a turn and get a few points of damage in. If you're looking for spot removal, playing a Roast or two never hurt, but they aren't stellar against the decks you mentioned. Sudden Shock is also a viable option but is no where near as good as when Infect was tier 1. Still, it can really mess up Counters Company and is very good against Affinity. You've got a lot of options, so put together what you think is good against the top tier decks.

Didn't see anything yet in current lists on this thread or really on other sites. But, does Reckless Rage in Rivals warrant us looking back at Boros Reckoner in the main deck? Works well with our newer toy, Hazoret the Fervent too.
I know that Reckless wouldn't be a 3 or 4 of type card, so bringing Boros back to jam a couple in isn't going to be better than current lists. But, just curious as to people's thoughts on the card and if there is brewing room. It's better creature removal than Lightning Bolt, and still almost gets a Bolt in on the player if Boros is in play. Though, I'm assuming to make the card worth it, you'd have to run 4 Boros... Not really 100% positive what the list would have to look like or if you'd just go all in strategy and play those with Blasphemous Act and even change one of the four drops to Spitemare MB as well.
For someone who ran Boros for roughly 2 years, I can say I've been happy after switching him out and finally embracing the Pia and Kiran Nalaar, Eternal Scourge lists.
I guess the biggest drawback of the card though is finding a creature on our end to target when we don't have a Boros in play :/ .
I experimented with a Young Pyromancer, heavy instant/sorcery build in the past with Skred. Makes me curious as to how well it would function with more tokens out there. You could run something like Hangarback Walker too to negate some of the board state disadvantage of roasting Pyro tokens. Turn 3 Hangarback on 2 with Mind Stone in play still allows a four drop bomb. Could also block a threat with a token and post combat deal 2 more to 3 toughness creatures. Just thinking out loud.
Did anybody get a hold of the list of the Skred player at the PT? Bringing Skred to GP Toronto this weekend so I'd be interested in seeing what they had.
Probably not at all, save meaning a slight uptick in Blue control which we are pretty solid against. It might also prompt more ultra-fast aggro in response, which we typically can hold. I think the impact is going to be purely about JtMS, and BBE won't make much of a dent.
Other than Wurmcoil becoming basically unplayable in Skred (and Batterskull becoming worse, but may be fine still), I think we're fine with the unbans. It's possible we'll see the return of 4 Stormbreath Dragons main, or even the old Double Dragon lists, but that isn't too drastic of a change.

If anything, I'd expect more Skred lists to run some number of Ricochet Trap in their boards. Likewise, Koth, Stormbreath, and P&K line up really well against Jace; in some ways, he seems easier to deal with than Gideon, Elspeth, etc.
Koth is a really great answer to a turn 4 Jace. I suspect Stormbreath will include since Jace will mostly be paired with white. As for Double-Dragon, I have doubts (though I wouldn't mind either). Is Thunderbreak Regent really that much stronger against Jace than PnKN? Also, I think I'd rather run Boil than Ricochet Trap...
It depends on what control decks do, and if they start to dominate. Considering that they need to play spot removal, I could see an argument to playing Regent. P&K is probably just better, but I mean, DARGONS!!!!

So this is what I've been running lately. Testing out 2 Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh. She has been really strong and is honestly easy to flip than I originally thought. I recently put Parents back in expecting to see a a lot of Jace. Anyway just looking for some thoughts and wondering if anyone else has had success testing out baby Chandra.
Chandra ToD seems almost flat out better than FoK, since they have the same general three abilities with ToD also ramping/digging, and there is no window where ToD dies to Path/Bolt/Push. If they had given FoK pro-red, that would have been thematic and awesome enough to consider.
The big issues with how we counter Jace is that we need whatever we use to have a reasonable shot of hitting him within one turn and being hard to deal with. That's why Koth and Stormbreath are good. Regent and PnKN seem a bit slow but not awful, ToD is okay, as is Hazoret. Haste is just very important. You want to clobber the little punk before they get to untap, bounce your guy, and hold up countermagic.
If they bounce any part of parents the jaceveither dies to token swing back or sac'ing a token. I understand what you mean about FoK. I had revealed concerns but for me at least she's performed wonderfully. I've had turn 4 where I ping, play koth, ping, minus koth tonolay parents/Chandra, ping and flip. She's just been really good so far.
Hey all! New Skred player here. I traded in my G/W company deck last week and bought Skred. I’m using the list that Trevor May had piloted to top 8. The only difference is that I’ve swapped Anger of the Gods for Sweltering Sun. I suppose this makes the deck weaker to finks, voice, and dredge, but the allure of being able to cycle it in matchups where wipes are not needed was too much.
I played in small 3 round “FNM” tonight. I lost 1-2 to Ad naseumn, but beat both Jeskai and Jund 2-0.
Maindeck Relic of Progenitus and blood moon just proved to be too much for the Jund player. I was able to kill most of this threats and beat him down with Koth, Stormy, and Hazoret.
With Jeskai I just had too many must answer threats. Stormy, Koth, and blood moon wrapped both games up.
I know this isn’t a comprehensive report, but I wanted to comment to express my love for this deck right now and keep the thread going.
Honestly I thought scourge was meh when I first looked at the list, but god damn that dude is resilient. Put in serious blocks against goyfs and returned for the beats vs Jeskai.
Blood moon as always is just a house. So many decks just kind of lose to it.
Hazoret has been an absolute beast. I’m loving her as a one of in the deck.
JTMS is never a turn four play. A skilled pilot won't drop him on turn four against 95% of the format, with the exceptions being Ad Nauseam and maybe Storm. If an opponent taps out for him, we're doing great. I would be more concerned with a lategame JTMS if anything because we may have run out of gas and he can just lock down our draw step. In the hands of a skilled control pilot, he's going to be a much bigger problem because they know when to play him, and depending on the board state that might not even matter. All of our threats either have haste or bring more bodies to the party. The exception here is Eternal Scourge, but if they're trying to bounce him they're probably losing anyway.
Congrats on the finish! Yes, we do just straight lose to Ad Naus unless you dedicate a large portion of your sideboard to it. Goblin Rabblemaster and Molten Rain certainly help, but after that you begin sacrificing other matchups for it if you add too many of these cards or additional cards.
