I run two Magma Jets to filter some of the 1-ofs I always tend to run; sometimes I really want to see them, other times not, and Jets are also more interaction against decks like Storm or Druid Company.
So I went 3-1 at an 8-man tonight. Here's my list:
So the Jets and Hazoret are my flex spots; Sarkhan was a boss all night, doing double duty as either an extra Stormbreath or decent removal on a stick. I didn't see Hazoret, so still no idea whether she's worth the spot or not. Tonight's Modern tourney was only an 8-man, but my opponents were rather good. Hilariously, only one or two of them had ever heard of Skred Red before, and I heard many remarks along the lines of, "What the heck IS this??"
-Match 1- vs Gifts Storm
Game 1: Keep a decent hand with a Koth and a Stone and Anger. About 20 seconds in I realize he's playing Gifts Storm, and that I have no spot removal. Fortunately, my Anger goes through and kills his Baral, but unfortunately, he drops another on Turn 4 and then goes off, and I scoop.
SB: In - 3x Claw, 3x Rabblemaster; Out - 3x Moon, 2x Stormbreath, 1x Hazoret
Claws make Grapeshot much less effective, especially with a few triggers from yourself, and Rabbles are much better against such a fast deck.
Game 2: Mull to six, keep a hand with interaction and a Relic. Play a Rabblemaster while killing his dorks. Play Koth behind the Rabble, easy win.
Game 3: Jet and bolt in opening hand with Relic, easy keep. Draw into Claw and drop Rabblemaster the next turn. He tries to Gifts at EoT for something effective, but the Relic emptying his GY means he gets a mediocre Grapeshot off, and with Claw out, he can't even get me below 10.
(1-0)
-Match 2- vs G/B Tron
Game 1: I mull to six, have 4 lands and some spot removal. He mulls to five, then proceeds to drop a natural Tron with Karn. He removes my land, I Bolt his Karn in response, he follows with another Karn. I scoop.
SB: In - 3x Rabblemaster, 2x Pith, 2x Rain, 1x Spree; Out - 3x Anger, 3x Relic, 2x Stormbreath
Need to put a clock on Tron, as well as hate out their artifacts. Everything I pulled out is just worthless here.
Game 2: I dropped a Turn 3 Rabblemaster, and he had no answer for it by Turn 5. I win easily.
Game 3: I had two Blood Moons in hand, and dropped one Turn 3. I made a mistake Turn 4, where I played Karn, then minused him to cast another Blood Moon (just in case he had removal for the first one). Instead, I should've cast a Rabblemaster with that mana and started putting pressure on him. Instead, I waited until the next turn, giving him time to get a Wurmcoil out and answer both of my Rabblemasters with Collective Brutalities. He then blew up one Moon and World Breaker-ed the second one, and ran away with the game from there.
(1-1)
-Match 3- vs Amulet Titan
Game 1: I mull to six, but keep a good hand of Koth and a Stone. My opponent gets out some weenies and Azusa to ramp, but I Koth and then Anger them all away. When they get a Titan out, they swing at me instead of Koth or my Chandra, and I remove it and then swing in for lethal within two turns.
SB: In - 3x Rabblemaster, 2x Ratchet, 2x Rain, 1x Shattering Spree; Out - 3x Anger, 3x Relic, 2x Stormbreath
Need more speed, and pro-white does nothing. Removal for Amulets is much more important.
Game 2: I keep a decent hand, but I run out of gas before she gets a Titan out, and I have no answer for it. After she beats down my Chandra and ignores a few Bolts, she finishes me off with the double-striking Titan.
Game 3: I keep a hand with Blood Moon. I play that Blood Moon. My opponent has no basic lands whatsoever, and scoops two turns later.
(2-1)
-Match 4- vs Goryo's Reanimator
Not much to say here. MD Relic basically destroys this deck. I won both games quickly and easily.
(3-1)
So the top 4 then split, and that was that. Overall, I really enjoyed this build of it. Would still like to see whether Hazoret is worth it or not, but otherwise, feels solid!
Has anyone found any significant benefit of playing Coldsteel Heart over/with Mind Stone. I know it helps with Skred and Scrying Sheets buy I think the card draw is far too important.
As a former Imperial Painter player, I'm really excited to play this deck. Thank you!

1) Skred has a real issue with value at times. While a fast Blood Moon can be incredible, it's not particularly consistent, and ending up with no board presence and no hand generally means you lose very quickly. Hence, SSG just burns your hand out faster, and if they have answers to your threats, you end up playing off the top of your deck and hoping.
2) I've been very surprised by Sarkhan; he does a lot of work, and I've been really enjoying having that extra Deal 4 when I need it. He's not always the most reliable, but I like him over a 3rd Dragon.
3) Mind Stone's draw is important, and so is the coming into play untapped part. Just faster and more useful, IMO.

- SSG is good for a fast T1-2 Blood Moon and that's it (beside that I won 1-2times with a hardcast ssg...)
- Sarkhan... played him several times when I started with SkRed but found him never good enough to stay in my 75 beside some funny interactions aka. "Koth +1 animating your Mountain, Sarkhan -3 kills your mountain"
- you're right, since Twin is banned we don't need the extra 1dmg for Skred T3 dealing 4 to their Deceiver Exarch, Mind Stone should be the way to go (for as long as youre fine with the colorless mana, maybe would go for Coldsteel if I run the playset Deus of Calamity or something? :D)

"From my rotting body,

So I played some games tonight and decided to throw a weird one of into the mix... Shrine of Burning Rage. It seemed pretty sweet when I played it early but I might have been lucky. I most likely will run something else for something more consistent. Maybe a third Eternal Scourage which is so much better than anticipated.

I think Shrine is playable. We don't have a lot to do with exactly two mana, and Shrine is one of the only options that both (a) is a threat that has to answered and (b) can't be answered with Bolt/Path/Push. The problem is that it isn't a good top deck and isn't a fast enough clock to improve the Tron matchup -- it's really added reach for grindier games, but no card is perfect.
This got me thinking, what else does meet those criteria? About the only thing I can think of is Eidolon of the Great Revel, which does die to those spells, but it doesn't just die -- it inflicts some pain along the way.

Normally Eidolon will deal too much damage to ourselves to be worth a spot, but it's a great sb tech against Storm, and maybe also Ad Nauseam.
As for the Shrine, I think it's a possible sb to bring in against grindy matchups as said, but too clunky to go main. I've had it in my 75 on a couple occasions before, but have yet to see its full potential.

I think you're right ... each could be played but is probably a sideboard card.
And even as a sideboardcard there should be better options than playing Eidolon
vs. Storm
- Grafdigger's Cage (Hitting Collected/Cord/etc as well)
- Dragon's Claw
- Ratchet Bomb
Hey guys! I have been seeing some great debate recently on if the card Hazoret is worthy of inclusion. I am under the firm belief that it is, but would love to see your guys's thoughts on the subject matter! I just released a new video of my Skred Red podcast that I discuss this topic, and it might be able to further the discussion here: https://youtu.be/wRzbVIvWpqQ .
At CMC 5, it competes with Stormbreath and/or Sarkan, Dragonspeaker. The extra Mana doesn't seem relevant, which seems to be the only reason to run him unless you want to run Banefire in your build for a big finish.
So i've been working on a different version of skred....i tried the graveyard version a few pages back....no go, bad and clunky... however i tried this new artifact skred version that i built (somewhat based on an earlier version posted here) and so far in my testing its really got some great synergy and actually is rocking... not sure on exact numbers yet, may add the scrying sheets back in, but here is my list and feel free to also test it out.

Well this is actually pretty interesting, cause if they let me have the mindstone, basically never ending card draw. Secondly same with relic of progenitus...
Additionally if you get two of these down, then anytime they "Kill" a Hangarback or a ballista, you get it back or they take 6. Ballista is great cause you can actually cast it for 0 and they either take 3 (or 6 if two) or it comes back to your hand. Shrapnel blast is great cause they take 5 and you probably get the artifact back. WB is good cause you cast it for 4 ping them twice and they take 3 or you get it back. also the Artifacts make it less likely that you lose to pro red creatures or affinity etc. Anyways Test it out for yourself its got good legs, i'm really digging Pia's Revolution as that was my whole reason to build this.
Biggest issue i have is card advantage, other decks can beat us with theirs and Skred really doesn't have that many ways to come from behind, but recurring your artifacts is like pseudo card advantage...also it really helps to make removal not as powerful.
So I went 3-1 at an 8-man tonight. Here's my list:
Creatures:
2x Eternal Scourge
2x Pia and Kiran Nalaar
2x Stormbreath Dragon
1x Hazoret the Fervent
Planeswalkers:
4x Koth of the Hammer
2x Chandra, Torch of Defiance
1x Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
Enchantments:
3x Blood Moon
4x Relic of Progenitus
4x Mind Stone
Spells:
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Skred
2x Magma Jet
3x Anger of the Gods
Land:
2x Scrying Sheets
20x Snow-Covered Mountain
3x Dragon's Claw
3x Goblin Rabblemaster
2x Pithing Needle
2x Ratchet Bomb
2x Roast
2x Molten Rain
1x Shattering Spree
So the Jets and Hazoret are my flex spots; Sarkhan was a boss all night, doing double duty as either an extra Stormbreath or decent removal on a stick. Quick Questions:
Why has most lists steered away from the SSG gameplay?
I really want to play Sarkhan, The Dragonspeaker but I feel like I would play an extra Stormbreath Dragon over him.
Has anyone found any significant benefit of playing Coldsteel Heart over/with Mind Stone. I know it helps with Skred and Scrying Sheets buy I think the card draw is far too important.

Most lists contain
