Okay, so what are people's thoughts on Roast and Goblin Rabblemaster in the Sideboard? I've been considering cutting something for another Pithing Needle, and am actually really tempted to run some Boros Reckoner in my side for both the Burn and Shadow Jund matchups. Rabblemasters are good against Tron and the like, but I'm iffy on them right now. Opinions?
I use them both. Rabble gives the deck a fighting chance against uninteractive combo, and it can occasionally be handy to side in against decks where bunches of our cards are bad. Roast comes in handy against Eldrazi, as well as anyone employing Tasigur, the Golden Fang or Gurmag Angler. Its window to zap a Death's Shadow or a Tarmogoyf is tighter, but it's still a decent sideboard answer for 2 mana.
Hello all. I haven't played magic for about 4.5 years but decided to get back into it so I put Skred Red together and headed out to my LGS to give it a shot. There was about 20 people playing and after I registered they informed me it was no ban list and 8 proxies today. I was kinda annoyed but at the same time I currently only have one blood moon so I got to play the whole set!!!
Went 3-0 and split first! We played out the championship game for fun and he beat me with a miracle top deck in game 3 (only card in his deck where I don't win next turn).
Matches:
U/b kitchen table imps 2-0
Preban Dredge 2-1
game 1 he had a fast hand and just rolled me. Games 2 and 3 relic and blood moon kept him down and I killed my own scourge twice to remove bridges.
Azban Company with an infante life combo: 2-1
I didn't see/know the combo game 1 and he surprised me with it and lost. Games 2-3 I held onto relics and used pithing needle to keep him off the combo and won easily.
Azban: 1-2
Close match that came down to the final topdeck. Their creature value is amazing but skred packs so much removal I kept up pretty well. Flooded game one. Game two kept him off mana with blood moon and molten rain. Game three was back and fourth with him top decking green sun zenith for his fourth siege rhino with me having lethal on board.
Overall the list felt solid, I would like a couple more threats. There were a couple games I flooded with removal and just sat around waiting to topdeck a threat. I thought no ramp was the way to go as turn 2 mindstone doesn't really get us anywhere. I'd rather be playing blood moon or sitting on removal than rushing a four drop a turn early. After playing it I was happy with the choice. I plan 2 fit a couple rabblemasters and roasts in somewhere and acquire 2-3 crying sheets.
Good afternoon, warriors! I need help here! I want you to give me your attention!
Here in Rio de Janeiro fashion is Daths Shadows, the deck is frighteningly more powerful than before, 8 discards + 2 Liliana, we have no chance ... I played 12 games yesterday, I lost 12 ¬ ¬. What I realized I'll pass on to you.
Blood Moon does nothing ... they always discard
Anger of The Goods does nothing
I thought of putting 4x bridge on the side I still think periogso they have 2x kholagan command from main deck + side. Does anyone have any good tactics ??? I'm wrapped up here with this deck!
I gained yesterday from Affinith, burn, infect, live and drege easy ... but this is complicated to win
This is my list.
2 Scrying Sheets
21 Snow-Covered Mountain
23 land
3 Stormbreath Dragon
2 Eternal Scourge
3 Pia and Kiran Nalaar
8 creatures
2 Chandra, Torch of Defia ..
3 Anger of the Gods
4 Koth of the Hammer
4 Blood Moon
4 Skred
4 Mind Stone
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Relic of Progenitus
A big deaths shadow is pretty hard to deal with. The closest real answer we have is probably Boros Reckoner or Wurmcoil Engine. Something like Word of Seizing, or Act of Aggression might work if you're low enough.
I've done some testing for this matchup, and I won't mince words: it's pretty challenging. The games that I have won revolve around sticking Relic of Progenitus to keep Tarmogoyf under control, being willing to 2-for-1 myself to get giant Death's Shadows off the board, and sending a fair amount of Lightning Bolts upstairs to close out games. Roast helps, but I found that they can deal with Boros Reckoner very easily thanks to discard and Fatal Push (not once did I get to stonewall a Shadow or a Goyf with it, and I tested over a dozen individual games). Your best bet is to hold a grip full of removal and hope you can stick an early 'walker (preferably a Chandra) so that you can card advantage them to death.
Wouldn't stealing Death's Shadow when over 13 life just kill it ?
Seems like a creative way to deal with it.
The best option is probably Kari Zev's Expertise as you can cast another spell for free.
There is also Roast to catch them before they get over 5/5.
We can use it as removal if we're above 13 life, and if we're low we can probably kill them with it because they will probably be low as well. But overall, its still a meme answer, because thoughtseize can steal it. The most reliable way for us to probably kill it might be Ratchet Bomb, but they just have so many ways to fetch for it(traverse) , and kolaghans command to bring it back.
More meme answers include Form of the Drago and Obliterate, but surprisingly sometimes the meme answers are actually the best answers.
I think I like the Ratchet Bomb and Relic plan. If we can keep their graveyard under control, Kommmand and Traverse don't do anything.
Reckoner seems cute. Seems fine as a 2-of in the sideboard maybe. I don't think I'd want it mainboard. We don't have a lot of good targets for spot removal normally, and that just makes their Fatal Pushes good. Post-sideboard you can at least hope they've sided out of spot removal.
Indeed, spoiler season has been great for us! Can't get wait to get my fourth Moon, in a different edition than the other three of course, for maximum troll.
I dropped a Stormbreath and a Thunderbreak for a second Chandra and a Batterskull. I'm starting to find that I need a Bskull these days, and Delver is picking up steam on the local scene so Chandra is fantastic. Any advice on how to beat Grixis Delver? I always get run over in at least one game per match and can't seem to squeeze two wins.

I feel like Grixis should be decent, actually. Maindeck Blood Moons, GY hate, and a ton of removal with hard-to-answer threats behind it means their only real threats against us are fast Delve beaters. I admit, having faced down a T2 Angler, that if they go fast, it can be a real problem, but Roast and Molten Rain in the Side should make games 2 and 3 pretty favored, shouldn't it? Seems like a grindy matchup, which is something Skred should do pretty well!
Also, I have zero Blood Moons in paper, and cannot WAIT for MM17! HYPE!
Just bring in Roast for Tasigur. That really should be the only card giving you significant trouble in the matchup. Delver has beaten me at times, but I feel the matchup is pretty positive overall.
If I were to bring Skred to a GP or large tournament where I expected to play against Death Shadow Jund, I would definitely play Kia & Piran. The combination of 3 bodies I think is very relevant in that match up. Additionally I would also probably cut some number of Mind Stones or Simian Spirit Guides to get Boros Reckoners in the main deck.
I'm playing in a 1K on Sunday. Working with the assumption that Death's Shadow and Eldrazi are gonna be everywhere, I've gone -1 Magma Jet, -1 Anger, +2 Roast in the main. I've also added 3 Reckoner to the board. No clue if that'll work, but I'll report back afterwards.
