Good morning guys!
My name is Tárik. I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I've been Skred's player for a few months. I've always wanted the deck, but I never found the Snowy Mountains and the money is short. I recently closed the deck and got some things to share.
First to know that in an international forum the guys are even studying the possibilities of innovating and improving the deck I'm very happy. In my city I am the only player.
Recently I played against several aggro decks, field in my area and I was impressed with the efficiency of Pia and Kiran Nalaar, how sensational she is! Killing with her ability activated (Champion, Master, Infect (Blessing)) in a field aggro I tested! I use 4x Copies! I read some comments about whether Magibomba is bad or not, I believe the creator of the deck wanted to have a set of cards to deal with creatures with protection, 3x Pia and 1x Magibomba (RUN).
I'm going to play a championship here in Rio next week, and I'll go with the following list.
2 Scrying Sheets
20 Snow-Covered Mountain
2 Eternal Scourge
4 Pia and Kiran Nalaar
4 Stormbreath Dragon
3 Anger of the Gods
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Skred
4 Blood Moon
4 Koth of the Hammer
4 Mind Stone
4 Relic of Progenitus
1 Baterskull
I have no experience against Control decks, but I never lost to a Grixis and UWR, again Pia and Kiran shine! I would like to hear your opinion regarding the clashes against Jund, Infect, and the Feared TRON, who really think an unfair deck this tron ... as said in the comments, sometimes I miss an extra Mountain. But I do not know what to take.
(Before they ask about the new Chandra, I bought 2x but will not make it in time)
The Side I created with the following formation:
3 Ensnaring Bridge (Spooky as she wins games, Aura, Newt, Monogreen, Reanimator, Nahiri Boros etc.) and of course when I do not need it, I mess with Sink and I knock with the dragon ahaha
4 Molten Rain (Tron, wanted so badly that they banned the Karn) Unfair.
4 Dragon Claw
2 Ricochet Trap (I would like to know what functions she could use against (Uwr, Grixis, Utron, UR Aggro and Triton)
2 Shattering Spree (as I wanted to use 3) ahaha
Anyone knows if there is a Guide to some play that shows us what to take and put post matches?
Congrats on getting the deck together!
There's a link in the primer for a sideboard guide for some of the matchups (http://roguedeckbuilder.com/skred-red-sideboard-guide/), it's not 100% the same list as yours, but no skred sideboard guide will be and it's pretty close.
If I were to make a sideboard guide it'd be fairly simple:
Shuffle the sideboard into the main and take the 15 most useless cards out.
Scarey prospect but I found that's what works for me.
@Fool
Good tip about Kargan Dragonlord being a less mana intensive option. I'll add it to the list. Rabble still probably wins overall, but Kargan being able to survive an Anger after a bit of investment could be relevant.
@CavalryWolfPack
Haha, Lightning Berserker is somewhat of a pet card of mine so I'm with you about the late game topdeck fantasy.
I haven't been seeing as much Push as I thought I would either. And to be honest, I often win through my mountain being Pushed anyway. I don't think it hurts as bad as some people think, especially with Mind Stones and 23 lands.
@tarik
List looks good man, you should do well. I like the Ensnaring Bridges in the side. We can just hide behind the bridge and play our planeswalkers for a safe win.
@yorck
Yeah despite Rabblemaster being the most practical, I don't think it completely rules out other options depending on your meta. Eidolon of the Great Revel is an interesting one. Hard to calculate as you're saying, but I could see it being worth a shot.
@Itetone
I spent a few hours playing a list last night with 2x Heart of Kiran. It's growing on me.
Went 4-2 in a 41-man tournament on sunday, barely missing top-8 at 9.place. Sadly I picked up one of the losses on the first round so was never featured on stream.
List I played was the same as posted earlier, with some slight adjustments to SB:
My first loss were to some bushwacker zoo playing 2+ Hidden Herbalists and Burning-Tree Emissary into Goblin Bushwhacker/Reckless Bushwhacker already on turn 2, must be some of the most explosive lists I've seen ever in modern. Didn't have pyroclasm game 1 -> dead, and game 2 he beat me down low before I could Pyroclasm, and finished me off with burn before I could assemble a win. Don't know how I could've done this matchup better, it was so fast and more resiliant to sweep compared to burn. Volcanic might've worked together with ssg.
Second loss were to spirits, of all things. Usually I 2-0 this matchups, but games 2 and 3 he got down early Vials and were able to string together Spell Quellers and protection on seemingly every planeswalker or Bolt/Skred I had. Not really something I'd change to list to counter, I believe he just drew a bit better than me and even control lists can beat us if they get enough permission to stagger into late game.
Wins were to Jund, 2x Grixis Control, and GR Tron. Reckoner were better than expected, but still unsure if it's a mainstay for me. He actually helped me a bit against Tron since I was able to animate his lands with Blood Moon and Koth, and kill it with Reckoner + Pyroclasm to keep him off Wurmcoil while still getting in 3 damage each turn. Otherwise I notice again that Molten Rain does a LOT of work against my wins, and I'm tempted to swap out Reckoners for a couple Scourge and land destruction instead. Maybe even 3-4 Fulminator Mage, but I've yet to aquire those.
A bit sour to be so close to top 8, but overall I'm content with the results!
I confess that I can not like Boros Reckoner but I have never tried it, the field here is jungle, so I use 4x Pia and Karin and 3x Anger of The Goods, the only fear I have is to get Monogreen (Blood Moon always comes in My hand against this deck ahahaha) and GW Auras (Impossible to win if he does Bogle + Totem + Daybreak) Has anyone ever played against Burn ??? I would like unbelievable tips but never played against. Infect voices give the owner at the end of the turn of the player of infect not to add the damage that will come and gg.
Honestly I do not think I need 4x Blood Moon, but she has to come to some Maths, often came down Blood Moon and got the other in her hand curling ... but it's that saying "a hand is better in the chest than the two Hands in the bra "we should think about something about it. It seems crazy but if you can test 4x Pia and Karin, there is no more efficient creature to protect Koth than she has ever won matches using her ability using Relic, Stone, Bridge etc. The 2 Eternal I was using did not help me much in this field, I played several matches and the lack of mana compromised me in some, I added a land 21 Snow and 2 Scry The mana stick finished and I added the 2x Baterskull, they can say "Take Kolagan, any side has destroi artifact" against Grixis and UWR if the Player wanting to destroy my Bridge, Relic and Baterskull he is already dead with the Dragons, Pia and Koth and many times when it was Kolagan I gave back to the hand ahahha hatred is visible in the faces of the brothers. Not only deck master, I'm starting now and I hope to add, we will discuss and increase the possibility of winning the deck. I do direct Koth + Pia and only manage the game.
We're glad to help! Here are my observations about the matchups you mentioned.
Mono Green is a surprisingly difficult matchup! Their creatures come down larger than we can Skred them, and it usually feels like we're on the backfoot. If you can kill their threats, do it. I like running Roast to deal with early creatures that are too large for Skred, and maybe you'll like it if Mono Green is a deck you play against frequently.
Bogles is a weird one. If we can kill their hexproof creatures with something like Anger of the Gods before they get too big, we're in good shape. Other than that, it's a race to get our threats outs before their Bogles become a problem. I like Ratchet Bomb here. Just set it to one and pop it when they get out of hand.
Burn is a great matchup! It isn't so amazing that we always win, but it is incredibly in our favor. Kill all of their creatures, and you'll run them out of gas because the average Burn draw won't be able to kill you with just instants and sorceries: they need creatures. Sideboard cards like Dragon's Claw are insane, although they will eat a Destructive Revelry. Leave in your Blood Moons after sideboarding! Surprisngly, Blood Moon really hurts Burn, and it can lock them out of the game.

I'll correct that last statement, Burn is a surprisingly decent matchup so long as they're not mono red.

^^^^ This is really important as well. If they are mono red, Dragon's Claw is pretty powerful.

Can't say I've tried it out. My initial thoughts are that I'm not a fan of Nahiri/Emrakul here. With the Cathartics and lack of Relics I think I'd much rather see you playing 4x Demigod of Revenge. I do like Ajani in this build but I would def try and find space for Chandra somewhere. But most importantly, one of Skreds biggest weaknesses is dealing with fast large creatures. So I would really like to see some inclusions of Path to Exile.
I think the biggest upside to running Boros colors is access to hate in the sideboard, especially against Tron. I'd like to see Stony Silence in the side with perhaps some needles as well.
I really wouldn't advise running Path to Exile on a deck whose core uses Blood Moon, at least mainboard. If you want an answer for big creatures before Skred can handle them, i remember using Valorous Stance as an upgraded Roast when i was trying out the splash; it's also good synergy with Reckoner, for unexpected kill potential using multiple Skreds or just a counter vs removal.

Yeah wasn't running path for that exact reason. Demigod is interesting, I'm just not huge on the idea of having to cast him for 5 (I understand you can cheat some in play, but I'm still not huge on such a brutal hybrid cost when I only run 1/2 of the colors) I love the Valorous stance suggestion, and Stony Silence is also in great consideration. Appreciate the input everyone, when I get the time to update it I definitely will and will ship it here.

thats a great point on the Demigod as well. clearly i didn't think out that post much before making it
I must admit, seeing a mono red deck perform well is very nice. Kaladesh set has been very good for this deck by introducing the red version of Jace, the Mind Sculptor with Chandra, Torch of Defiance.
I don't remember when exactly but I heard that this deck did pretty well recently and I'm curious to know when and where this deck did well. Has Chandra, Torch of Defiance really push the deck in a more viable and competitive deck?
I would say Skred was better positioned in the metagame before the bans, since both Infect and Dredge were decent to good match-ups. If blue based control decks with a lot of counterspells (and tron decks) rise in numbers , this could spell doom for our mono red control deck, or at least make it less viable in a given metagame.

Control is argueably amongst our best matchups, we got several threats that's hard to answer were it to hit the board, and they only got a linited set of counterspells in due time. Oh, and Blood Moon also counts as death threat.
Tron is another question, it's definately not a great mu, but not impossible either. If the hype stay as high as now, adding some land destruction wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm thinking 4 Fulminator/Rain + 3 Moons
I don't know tbh, I wouldn't say its a "one of the best" match-up, those are creature decks. If Skred has a great control MU and is ofc awesome against creature decks, it would be widely played and considered one of the best decks since we got game against Midrange as well. Fact is that counterspells ruin our day, and I speak from my experience that heavy counterspell decks tend to not be the best MUs (still, I agree that they are not worst or even bad MUs like I wrote and was readable from the context). We have limited threats and if their answers align we have little to nothing to do.
However, read that I wrote blue based control decks with a lot of counterspells. Grixis is usually a decent MU since they lack a high number of counterspells, instead going for spot removal. UWR decks, which are the most played blue based control decks, have a lot of different builds and some are easy while other not as much.
Another problem I had during my time playing Skred was that occasionally, the deck loses to itself in an ugly manner. Oh well, I hate that.
I dont know about you but I had a few games when my opponent chained Remands, Mana Leaks and Cryptics so that I felt tilted. Maybe I speak from my bias experience tho. Come to think about it, that has to be it, since I have to agree that all in all control is not a bad MU, albeit not great. Again, depends which kind of control.
One MU I dont like is also valakut decks, after SB I feel like they just go after our BM and we have almost no game against them. Land hate might become mandatory.
In theory one can lose with anything against anything because RNG.
I have lost games to control too, but it's when they draw almost every counterspell they have and I don't have ssg, which needless to say happen very rarely. You're right about grixis being even easier.
Yes, valakut deck and especially breach are troublesome. For those wondering, Ensnaring Bridge does as much as Blood Moon; it soft-locks them until they find their Terastodon or eventual claim-effects, which usually ain't long.
Land destruction is the to-go for these decks (and control for that matter), but I believe most play 3-4 Molten Rain sb at this point.
