UR Twin has been a Modern mainstay for years, but the Tempo Twin version of the deck has also emerged as a powerful top-tier take on the standard Twin shell. Patrick Dickmann has made a name for himself in promoting the archetype and playing it whenever he gets the chance, showing off the power of adding Tarmogoyf and some other green-based bullets to a UR Twin core. Temur Twin was the original Tempo Twin before all those Grixis mages started adding Tasigur, and it remains an excellent choice when regular UR Twin just doesn't have the aggressive options you need for certain metagames. The deck has enjoyed considerable success since its debut around Pro Tour Born of the Gods and its subsequent success at GP Richmond.
Here is a recent Dickmann list from GP Charlotte 2015.
MOD NOTE: This thread is solely for discussion of the Temur Twin deck. You can find the other Twin discussions below: UR Twin Temur/Tarmo (RUG) Twin Grixis/Tasigur (UBR) Twin UWR Twin If you see discussion activity in the wrong thread, please report it and let mods look into it. Thanks!
Related to its promotion to Tier 1, Grixis Twin continues to differentiate itself from its Tempo Twin roots in Temur Twin. This is true both from a results perspective (RUG Twin has results only for Tier 2 whereas Grixis has made it into Tier 1), from a decklist perspective (they have similar play styles but totally different cards and sideboards), and the way the discussion has evolved. This last point is an important one for me because we are seeing a lot of split discussion in this thread and a general decline in thread quality. This will definitely be addressed by keeping the Twin topics divided, both as a way to reflect their different results and encourage more nuanced development of each distinct color pairing. We had experimented with keeping these threads combined for a while, but given the recent developments, it's time to split them off.
I play 1 Roast main and 1 other side. I feel it is really good. I am not running dismember as I feel it puts too much pressure on my life total, which is already hard to manage with the 3 color manabase+the gitaxian probes. I have never encountered a flying creature I needed to kill but couldn't due tu running roast over dismember. Restoration angel doesn't really see that much play and it is the only target I can think of on the top of my head

Most of the flyers available in the format with non-boltable butts are juicy Remand targets, and it is very easy for our deck to punish them for paying four mana for them.
Question for you guys: Those of you rocking Yuta's GP Singapore list, how have you felt about the Affinity matchup losing Electrolyze? I have 2 Affinity players at my LGS that I can't stand losing to, so I've been trying to squeeze in one or two copies. However, I feel like Electrolyze is a bit expensive for a tempo deck like ours, despite being a fantastic card. How do we feel about this little gem?
So, a typical tarmo twin card discussion that i could use some advice on:
the choic between the necessary evil: Roast or Dismember? I almost feel that playing Roast, you might as well play nothing. Sorcery speed, 2 mana non flying.... On the other hand Dismember hurts alot, but atleast it does what it should do
Dismember is amazing, the life total issue is mostly emotional. being mana efficient is something this deck thrives on. It's like the dispel of removal or something. If you feel fine with the burn matchup I'd just go with 2 dismembers.
As much as I like cryptic command I've decided to take one out and try a mana leak in it's place. Twin is a deck where opponents leave mana open or don't play their threats in fear of tapping out and getting twinned. In theory Mana leak and spell pierce add to that as not only will they be worrying about combo but hesitant to play anything into a mana leak. Even if they can pay for the mana leak cost they still have to take into account that may tap them out and leave them open to combo. I feel its worth a try.
First thoughts, I love the bold choice of 10 combo pieces. It makes me kinda want a second probe since the build is pretty combo heavy, but I'm not going to dare suggest what you would cut.
Well potential cuts could be mana leak or a spell pierce, mana leak is in there for testing and can easily be something else. Personally I don't like having two probes but thats personal preference.
I like to have all 10 combo pieces simply because there are matchups where you need to combo asap and I want to have every chance of drawing into combo. That being said dropping a twin and a pestermite for something else might work too. I based my list off of Yuta Takahashi (as suggested in Patrick Dickmanns article): http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=9976&d=257546&f=MO and made changes to fit more my local meta and what I personally like.
I built this for a meta that's best players are typically playing: UW Fish, Podless Pod, Storm, Tron, Elves, Jund, UR Twin and Grixis Twin.
How do you guys board against fish? I am typically confused because it seems moot at times to bring in artifact hate but at the same time our counters get a lot worse if they have an active vial.
In my experience against fish, this version of Twin is not very well poised to win. Other versions run much more removal, and it is very easy to disrupt the synergies of the Merfolk deck. This deck plays 4 bolts and a roast, and I personally also play electrolyze. They are far more explosive than our deck is, and we don't have nearly enough removal to take them down. Our best bet is to force the combo and have protection for it turn 5.
Got the idea from Kurt steppe recent 5th place SCG invitation qualifier.
Not sure what should I have for the sideboard. Planning for a few copy of huntmaster of the fells against Grindy match, but not sure what to have in the other slots for Aggro, control and artifacts. Please help me with my sideboard?
