Hey man, I know youre asking a specific person, but ill share my 2cent.
You know about the bloodmoon effects, there will always be some players complaining about those kind of cards, and you know even If I can play them myself I kind of agree those cards can feel cheap and unfair, theres also similarly ensnaring bridge that annoy people. But the thing is I think theres no reason to feel bad at all playing those cards, were not wizard, we're not deciding what we can play or not in a format. If a card simple as that to cast in turn 2-3 can win you some eazy game then why not, players are well aware of its presence in the meta. I play Magus of the moon maindeck and theres just so many game that I'm behind and cast an eldritch on my birds for example to bring the magus quick and its doing great.
Now Huntmaster is in my experience one of those card that you just never know if its good or bad, its kind of a dillema: yes the card is indeed very powerful on its own, but the problem is most deck in the meta just dont care about creature like that and can ignore it easily. Really depends of your meta, if you see a lot of combo or bigmana decks, get this out or if you have a meta more aggro/midrange/control oriented it should be good. Now some play both the huntmaster and pia, but if youre actually wondering about if to play the pia main deck or not, my answer to that is that pia is an absolute most in the deck.
First of all the Pia tokens are our only answer to one of the most powerful and difficult card to deal with: Affinity's Etched Champion
- Excellent target for Eldritch Evo sacrificing 2drops like voice.
- Make voice tokens so much bigger quickly.
- Get so much value blinking it with resto.
- Good for pressuring your opponent if he have no flyers.
- Good for stalling when you need time to combo off.
- Good for bypassing prison cards like ensnaring bridge, ghostly prison by activating it for direct damage to your opponent.
- Can help if you need something to kills specific creatures that give trouble.
- The tokens survive some of our most feared cards like the Ugin plainswalker.
- Just a good card in general to generate value, making their single target removal so less cost efficient.
And so on!
Good luck, and no pity for the ragging kids out there, smash those bloodmoon on the table!
Well I guess if you play multiple bloodmoon maindeck it do make sens to play Huntmaster. But on the regular version, finding the triple green to cast the chord is just never an issue at all. If you have good experience with the card in your meta then go for it. Personnaly I think its just an average card. The 2 life gain is basicly only a little bit useful in the burn matchup, but pretty insignificant agains the rest. The card get to flip very rarely with all those removal spells around specialy, and I feel like if youre opponent doesnt have an answer to huntmaster and you get to do all his things, well at this point probably anything would had done the job killing your opponent. Saying that P&K is only better then Huntmaster in the affinity matchup is big non sense in my eyes. There is a reason why almost all list play P&K instead of huntmaster, the card is just simply superior. Having 2 flying thopters is always better then having a 2/2 wolf. Dont forget about all the matchups that pressure you with flyers like Bant spirits, Death and taxes, etc. I wish the card was better positioned in the meta, because I do enjoy playing it, its a nice card. Its just again, the modern meta doesnt care much about 2x 2/2 creature and 2life gain.
Is there any sideboard guide for the Moon version for the most popular decks? I am planning to take this to the Team Trios GP and we expect to come across Shadow, Affinity, Tron and Scapeshift a lot.
I haven't gotten really significant results with this deck but I absolutely love this list and can rather consistently go 3-1 at my LGS. I have yet to try it in any major tournament but I have played almost every major match up and I always feel like I have some chance of winning.
This threads been pretty quiet for a while. Anyone have anything that's been performing for them lately?
Naya Chord/Evo featuring Fiery Justice and Blood Moon seems to be the only thing putting up results recently.
i have been playing a deck based on Jeff Hoogland's Copy Cat deck using the Lotus Cobra and Renegade Rallier engine. I ported over the Kiki-Resto combo (1 of each) for value/redundancy and have been having lots of fun with it. Its can be pretty fast with turn 2 - 3 kills but usually either 4 - 5 or attempts to outvalue the opponent with the long game.
Is there a reason to even play Restoration if you’re already all in on Saheeli? Felidar Guardian fills the role better in those lists in my experience.
that is true. however i do not have the full paper verbatium deck so i am trying Resto out. she does provide the extra instant speed etb when required and has saved me more than once with it. providing pressure from the air when the ground is cluttered up is also a plus... and she is able to evolution into sun titan if required.
With infinite mana, you can turn 3 chord kill. Also having Duskwatch Recruiter helps with the just turn dudes sideways plan and being able to find tool box cards.
Maybe you could try running some kitchen finks in your list, to benefit from their synergy with vizier of remedies ? It would help making it a key card, even in the cases where you don't hit your devoted druid. Seems like it would be powerful along with eldritch evolution.
As you can see I'm going for the Lotus Cobra + Renegade Rallier version, because I think it enables some very explosives starts and applies a great pressure on the opponent. Lotus Cobra has a smaller body than wall of roots but it's interaction with fetchlands and renegade rallier makes this version, in my opinion and given my testing, more resilient. You only need two lands and a fetchland to get going.
I would be glad to have your thoughts on the deck and especially on the differences between this version and the deck played by Jeff Hoogland. I brought one courser of kruphix in (was playing two at first, but I went for the full renegade rallier playset instead) to insure some lifegain and consistency in the land drops. I also thought it could provide some form of card-draw in the absence of the third horizon-canopy (for budget reason). I also brought a kessig wolf run to take advantage of our big mana and close some games.
I'm not sure about the sideboard yet. I didn't have the occasion to test against many opponent, so feel free to comment on that too.
