Those are sick. Makes me want to find someone who can do some legendary bird alters of mine. I guess the fourth would have to be Ho-Oh?
As for my build, I'm experimenting with cutting Ayli and Souls for maindeck Kami of False Hope and Thraben Inspector. So far, I'm digging it, since it allows me to bring back a Proc or two to get some serious value. I don't feel like I've lost any of my options in turns 3-6, which is where the Souls would shine.
Hi there.
2 days ago (saturday) played PPTQ with Mardu Martyr.
Ended in top4.
First game against Kiki Cord.
2-0.
Number of wraths with Ugin and fast clock from Nahiri do really well, especially if you have 2 Kami of false hope for def.
1-0-0
Second game against UG Infect.
2-1
First lost die roll (meh :/ ) and game with Kami on start hand and 3 RoE. Didn't draw any reanimation to survive.
Second game remember bad. Opponent mulliganed to 5 and I win by beeing up with CA and removal spells.
Third game I had tonns of removals with *** to clear the rest. No infect creatures = no problems. Feels good :]
2-0-0
Third game against dredge.
1-1
First game lost to super fast zombies.
Second game we went to lategame and Ugin send zombies in Blind Eternities.
In third game stabalised but didn't have enough time to kill/deck him.
Dredge deck is soooooo long and stolling deck :/
2-0-1
Fourth game was against RG tron. (The most epic game of that tournament, hehe)
2-1
Fisrt game lost to turn 5 Ugin.
Second game I mulled to 6 and kept 3 lands + 3 Ghost quarters.
Waited for the time when urza land menace should be real and destroyed lands.
Opponent was burning from GQ saying that I drew all sb hate (lol) then I said that I kept 6 lands with 3 GQ and showed 3rd one. It was like rage quite in modo, hehe.
Third game mulled to 4 with martyr, GQ, Orzhov charm, Godless shrine.
And... i killed my opponent locking him with Weathered wayfarer + Mistveil plains after topdecking in 2 cards Surgical. I was killing him with 2 Martyr of sands. That was SO SALTY. I thought my opp will burn club on a place, hehe.
3-0-1
Fifth game was ID and top.
3-0-2
Top8.
Bant Eldrazi.
2-1
First game went pretty good. ***, tonns of removals and 6/6 Serra ascendants do their work
Second game lost to my big manaflood. Tried to survive as long as I could but drew only lands.
Third game kept nice hate with removal, ***, Linvala and etc. With 2 lands. Game went nice and easy.
Top4.
Dredge. That dredge again :/
1-2
First game won by decking him, easily stabalising in late game.
Second game lost to bunch of zombies on turn 4 through Martyr of sands. Fast number of zombies + rally (he dredged it as last card) do well. :/
Third game I mulled to 5 in weird hand while zombies were fast. Couldn't do anything without any hate and options to stabalise for lategame.
In total returned 3rd Surgical extraction.
I hope you all do well on tournaments.

Nice report and birds
Hope you'll continue doing well with Martyr and sending us reports
Can someone link me or share some nahiri builds? I've not been active in modern, but with pptqs coming I wanna get back into it. Thanks in advance guys!
After testing a bit and not enjoying Thraben Inspector but adoring a 2-of Kami of False Hope, I've been debating going back to a more throwback build leaning on 1-drops. It would get rid of the Lingering Souls and 2 Ayli I was running for 3-4 Kami of False Hope and 2 Weathered Wayfarer, with 2-3 Procs. I've noticed that the current meta allows me to just stall by recurring Martyrs and Kamis until I have Wrath and Ranger mana. I'm not doing as much in the mid-game, but I'm getting to the late game a lot easier. I think the Wayfarers will let me consistently pull Emeria off, which makes stalling even better.
I know Mardu seems to be the new direction, but I think I was disliking the deck more because of its early game stumbles than its late game inevitability.
BoBoCTiberius, I have a totally contrary opinion about Thraben Inspector. I'm currently loving play with Thraben Inspector. He, in my opinion, does a crucial job about our game plan: Have four lands on turn four. This is a big problem, many starting hands with only two lands become a loss when we didn't find the fourth one land (Ranger of Eos and Wrath). With Thraben, we can sac the clue in the turn two or three and find a land (if we didn't draw it yet).
Thraben Inspector gives us a cheap tutorable body, chumbs well, is recursable (Proc) and is a (slow) source of card advantage. Against Jund I normally Ranger of Eos for two Thraben Inspector.
It's basically the GP Madrid list of Steffen Van De Veen, with little modifications, the idea is trade win percentage against Aggro with win percetange against Midrange (Kalitas Jund, UWr, Grixis). I'm loving to play this deck, very cool, with early (mainly turn one) action. My idea was to have a plan when you have Serra Ascendant without Martyr and Ranger in hand (forecast Sky Hussar).
In my testings, I perceived that this list has the same problems and qualitys of a normal Martyr Proc, but in game one we have a better win % against Jund. Against Aggro, the Thraben helps buying us time and helps to find the absolutely crucial fourth land on turn four, too.
Ghostly Prison is still very good, and very needed against Infect, so I leave it on the side.
I'm not a very skilled player, but I really like Magic, although I dislike Planeswalkers (the card type). So, I was trying to build a deck without Planeswalkers that can win Jund and have a chance against the other decks. This is the reason that I play MartyrProc.
But my list can't win against Tron, Primeval Titans and combo decks. So, I modified my list, according to add a LD plan. This is the list I'm playing now:
After testing the Nahiri Build I found that I was doing better with just straight white. I hurt a lot of my better matchups like dredge and affinity and made infect go from winnable to auto lose. This is what I'm gonna run for the near future until the meta shifts.
But I'm not all too sure whether this is where I want to be. I'm definitely concerned about Nahiri right now, and I'm not sure one way or another how to feel about Dredge, though I haven't actually played against either yet. Any particular thoughts? Maybe some particular answer I should be running?
I think it's average/slight good for Martyr.
RG Tron it's almost unwinnable, Eldrazi it's rough. Nahiri, Merfolk and Jund are almost even. Infect it's winnable.
Affinity, Burn, Dredge, Death's Shadow Zoo, Infect and Merfolk are matches where Ghostly Prison shines. It's time to Ghostly Prison come back?

I haven't had as much opportunities to test most of those matchups, but for the most part, infect is a pretty solid matchup, Jund is a little bit in our opponent's favour, Tron is quite bad, but winnable (unless it's mono blue tron), Nahiri looks a bit ugly on paper, but hey, at least they can't let Nevermore resolve? No experience against that deck though.
In regards to your previous post, I'm kinda surprised by some of what you said. Pre-ban Eldrazi always seemed a little in our favor (at least for my list), and it'd surprise my if the current matchup was worse. Merfolk has always been a strong matchup for me, and Infect is more than winnable imo. I don't think Prison is really especially good against burn, owing to it being kinda slow and only stopping a portion of their cards (and even then, it doesn't outright stop them). As for the rest, aside from Dredge (which I don't have enough experience to really comment on either way), I'm pretty convinced that Kami is just better. Though, to be fair, It's possible that's more specific to my list rather than the standard.
I can't really make an specific statements about how much better or worse any given matchups are though, as I don't have much experience with standard builds, largely thanks to Nahiri, I'd personally be inclined to play BW if I had the money to straight up switch. Although, Blood Moon is kinda insane still (and dragonmaster outcast is gas)
It's really good for Mardu Martyr.
Jund is a nice "+" match up.
Affinity, Burn, Eldrazi, Suizoo, Merfolks are a strong "+".
Only problems are with Infect, Jeskai Nahiri (it's not control... it's a Nahiri deck in UWR colors; UWR Control is another deck), Dredge, RG Tron.
Infect - it's about 55-45, 60-40 in our favor. Main idea - get hand full of removals or Kami lock.
Dredge feels the same especially after I added 3rd Surgical extraction. If they don't have fast start we win without any problems on board. The most annoying thing to play with them - Dredge deck is full of triggers and eat big amount of time. -.-
Jeskai Nahiri is very problematic in first game bcs I don't have any good removals for Nahiri and it's hard to keep board to pressure here. Post side it's a "+" match up. (Hey, dude, I wanna your Emrakul from deck [Hide // Seek] )
RG tron is still a bad match up but winnable with 3 Surgicals. Usually mulligan for any land hate and win =) Feels soooo good.
Not sure about Ugin, the spirit dragon - there's no much strange decks that I want to play him.
Probably add second World queller? Or Blood baron of Vizkopa... don't know.
Also thinking about adding mainboard hate for Jeskai Nahiri but don't really want to cut anything.
About my last dayli and small competitive tournament for 24 ppl with top8.
Daily:
2-0
Lantern control.
First game won through the bridge one shotting opponent by upping my Serra ascendants to 6/6 in attack.
Second game won with tonns of hate. Prepared for oneshot attack, exiled bridge and killed my opponent.
1-0
Don't remember second game. Probably played with Jund and won.
2-0
1-1
Cryptic storm
Lost first game to 2 Pyromancer Ascension (one I exiled with Nahiri). He burned me with big CA.
Second game easily won with nice hand of hate.
And third game didn't had enough time to kill him. He played so slow =\
2-0-1
Fourth game met with my friend in top and we splitted.
It was Suizoo - very nice match up for me.
About small competitve tournament:
Jund
2-1
First game lost to stron manaflood of mine.
Second game won having some business and outgrinding my opponent.
Third game lost again to manaflood while opponent got business.
0-1-0
Jund (again, phe)
2-0
First game won with nice clock from Nahiri, hand of answers and in total outgrinded my opponent and killed him with Emrakul.
Second game was funny. My opponent was playing from topdeck while I had hand of removals. Topdecks Nahiri, got some business with 2 Rangers and.. He Thoughtseized me. Discarded PtE and Slaughtered (Slaughter game) my 2 Anguished unmaking ( O_O ), next topdeck he Slaughtered Emrakul. OKaaay, now, dude, get some Rangers, Linvala, the keeper of silence from Nahiri to hate your ooze and kill you.
1-1-0
Jeskai Nahiri
0-2
First game lost to Nahiri. Got most removal and 3 Wrath of gods in hand. 3! Thank you, deck, you're so nice.
Second game was long. There was a big battle of surgical extractions, I Hide // Seeked his Emrakul but lost in lategame to my manaflood.
1-2-0
Loam Pox
2-1
Pretty easy match up but...
First game got very strong hand. My opponent couldn't find any dredge theme and started to GQ my lands. Well, I got screwed on 2 lands for a very long time and get killed. Lol.
Second game mulligan to 6 with Surgical extraction and some nice business. Send him in hell.
Third game was the same but without mulligans. Surgicals did everything.
2-2-0
Lantern control
2-1
Lost first game to fast lock. Tried to cought my opponent on mistakes trying to mill him but he understood and used each turn Academy ruins. Conceded to have time for next 2 games.
Second game kept hand full of hate (Hide // Seek, Anguished Unmaking, World Queller, Slaughter games) and get from topdecks some clock with 1/1. World queller on turn 5 ended game very fast.
Third game was a bit harder. Opponent got Leyline of sanctity and I waited with Anguished unmaking it, looking if he will put second bridge on board. Prepared my board, didn't see anything, exiled bridge and killed him in 2 turns. Also Extracted his deck from Ancient stirrings.
3-2-0
Well, that's all.
Also, about enchantments. They're good against aggro deck, it's true. But it's still very good match ups without them too.
But against midrange decks (Jeskai Nahiri, Jund and etc.) they're very weak. And also don't do anything against Tron and very slow against Infect. While playing without them, cards you have instead do something and rising your chances to win.
I've found mostly the opposite to be true, in regards to your last statement. While it depends on what enchantment we're talking about (it's a toolbox for a reason!), most of the time, they tend to be at their best against Midrange (except probably not Nahiri decks, and not abrupt decay decks mostly), Mastery is incredible against control if you can land it, Blood Moon tends to be at it's best against slower decks (non-aggro/fast combo), and Nevermore isn't really archetype specific, but has important uses against many decks from all walks of life.
Jund - Abrupt decay deck.
Infect - spell pierces will do a lot against our enchantments. And tapping on turn 3 for prison is a sure death in most situations. Also they side in Nature's claim in number.
Burn - 4 Destructive Revelry say hello to you. If you tap on turn 3 for prison - they just say it and get a great tempo win.
Jeskai Nahiri - Nahiri will send all enchantments in hell if they come to battlefield otherwise sb hate will destroy/exile them.
Dredge - Engineered Explosives, Thoughtseize, Nature's Claim, Abrupt Decay.. so much number cards in SB that kills our best and only card in this match up - Ghostly prison.
Eldrazi - Engineered Explosives, Nature's Claim, Stubborn Denial, Negate, Fracturing Gust, World Breaker... every Eldrazi deck has it in number.
RG Tron - enchantments just useless agains 3-4 Nature's claim and mainboard cards in total.
And this is just 39.2% of top decks of meta where enchantments are not great or bad.
About blood moon - it's good only against 50% of meta and if opponent is not waiting it. In other situation it's a dead card.
Most of what your saying applies to SB cards, which means that we'd have either be able to side out enchantments, or we'd be in a position where having a few additional targets isn't such a downside, given the other enchantments we're boarding in.
For Jund, we can often keep them off of Decay with Moon, and, depending on how many pulses they run, Nevermore can often keep them off of it too. At any rate, they'll typically be able to get at least a bit of value off of Decay regardless, so it's not an incredible liability to run more targets.
Against Infect, Pierce will always find relevant targets (unless we have the mana anyway), so I don't see how this is terribly relevant of a point. Moreover, our game plan is typically more reliant on Kami and removal, with some of the enchantments being closers or more removal. I certainly don't plan on running prisons into Spell Pierce without backup.
I've commented on how Nahiri is awkward already, though, it is at least worth noting that a resolved Nevermore is basically unbeatable game 1, and Blood Moon can potentially screw them (particularly if we GQ their plains). It's likely we're boarding out most of our other enchantments as well (except O-Ring effects probably)
Haven't played enough against new-drazi or Dredge to really comment, still, most of these are general answers which having additional hits don't really make a difference for. Also, is Prison really our only relevant card against Dredge?
Our primary game plan against Tron is basically to just out-aggro them anyway, so it's really not all that relevant what they do to our enchantments. They certainly aren't for this matchup anyway, I'll readily admit that.
Jeskai Nahiri (it's not control... it's a Nahiri deck in UWR colors; UWR Control is another deck)
Lear, the Jeskai Control in the Modern Nexus site is the Jeskai with Nahiri, see this post: Primer Jeskai Control. So, the Jeskai Control (5.2% of the meta) it's Nahiri deck.

Rest in Peace
And what about Grafdigger's Cage? The card seems to be well setted up. Against Nahiri it stops the Emrakul and Snapcaster Mage. Against Dredge he need to have a answer in hands. It stops Collected Company, Chord of Calling and Eldritch Evolution.
Can be used against Kitchen Finks and others threats.

Lear, the Jeskai Control in the Modern Nexus site is the Jeskai with Nahiri, see this post: Primer Jeskai Control. So, the Jeskai Control (5.2% of the meta) it's Nahiri deck.
