Question to the people running Spreading Seas:
What are your win-cons in the maindeck?
Seems to me that people are running only 2x Part the Waterveil and dropping Thassa and/or Jace completely. My thinking is that if you have the devotion from both Seas and Dictate to make Thassa a creature, why not run at least one of her? Maybe she is a SB spot though?
The former plan was to Jace-kill them game 1, then bring in Lab Maniac game 2 since they *probably* sided out their creature removal. This is *probably* not the case anymore since our new win-con is to kill them with an awoken land. This brings me back to an alternative to my main question: if you run Seas, why not run Thassa as an alternative win?

The only card we really care about is Thalia right? I have 2 Gut Shot and 2 Dismember in my SB so I would probably bring those in.
Also, no to Sea's Claim IMO. Drawing a card is huge. Makes it not dead mid-combo.
Side note, the new Pieces of the Puzzle card is on the edge of being playable as a 1-of I think.

If one is running seas in the main he should autoinclude some Island Walker as win condition
I Still prefer temporal mastery to part of the water veil (since i play the combo version with emrakul.)
10 mana to animate a Land, 6,12,18,24 damage means it wins on t15... Idk i prefer to cast a 15/15 that cant even attack because the opponent concedes Lol
But i can see making inkmoth Nexus a 6/6 Infect. Best manland for taking turns imho
EVERY SINGLE CARD should help you accomplish your game plan : survive until you can Time Warp with a mine effect on the board. Thassa does not accomplish that. Cards like Thassa or Lab Man were necessary evils before because the deck had no win condition, but with Part the Waterveil there is no point running them.
I'm with you 100%. I even cut my Lab Man out of my sideboard. If you manage to find your one-of Slaughter Games out of the board then fine. I lose. That's the only thing I had it in there for and that's not really worth a slot.
For those that haven't played a version of the deck with 4x Part the Waterveil you probably don't realize just how solid and elegant it is as a win con. I've never decked myself in well over 100 games and I normally burn 1 or 2 at 6 mana with no worry.
Of course there are other versions of the deck and if you're messing around with Extraplanar Lens then that's another ball game, I could see Emrakul being fun there. But Emrakul can't be a Time Warp for 6.

i tested a lot of different version and yeah part of the waterveil is Brilliant.

So, the taxes matchup: I played versus Taxes last weekend (I wrote GW hatebears, but it was just taxes. My bad) - Hold answers for Arbeiter and Thassa. Do not focus on anything else, more the less. And just stall. The matchup is pretty plain.

had a bit more of test (BW tokens, gw boogles and elves). i'm also getting the feeling that in this aggro meta, remand is not that good. i'm switching it for 4 mana leak (that totally won me the game against tokens). I think it's pretty good because especially with the aggro decks, everyone tries to cast everything on curve and use all the mana they have, often making mana leak a time walk.
so the spots left free from remand are making room to take back in gigadrowse (another very good card against aggro).
I advocate the 4x part the waterveil, but I agree that it can't be the only win con. I play a single thassa and I'd really like to bring back in 2 jace. not just as a wincon but also as a great card advantage machine.
what i still need to decide is if i want to play 3 spreading sea in the main and 3 telling time in the side of viceversa. it's pretty meta dependant, but with all the eldrazi running around i'm leaning towards spreading sea main

If you reference the list I posted then I explained this already. I personally run two snapcasters which can win and as a last resort I can force them to draw their deck via Mikokoro. All three of those function as alternate maindeck winconditions while providing much more functionality otherwise than jace beleren.
On Thassa, I would really like an explanation on why she is good outside of being a finisher. From my perspective (in the average game) there is little opportunity to play her prior to comboing off and once the combo begins if you can cast a warp and a three mana spell in the same turn its been my experience there is little chance of the combo failing anyway so at that point the scry has little practical effect and it is a dead card until it begins acting like a 5/5. Let me know if I'm missing anything.

I'm agreeing a bit on remand there. Its in a tough spot and suffers from being really good for us when its good and very bad when bad with little in between. Now i'm not sure if leak is the solution since against aggro generally I find myself wanting reactive answers moreso than proactive ones but it is nice to get those cards out of their hand.
Personally I prefer my maindeck disruption to cantrip if possible as well which is why I am currently testing Repeal since its decent versus aggro and has good applications against many other decks as well.
You mentioned wanting to bring jace back in as a card advantage machine. Is there any reason that you wouldn't choose to just run more howling mines instead? Functionally they serve the same purpose once comboing and mine is usually harder for your opponent to kill.
You seem to be worried about the eldrazi deck. Has it been a problem for you? I have tested versus it quite a bit recently and it doesn't really interact with us so it seems to become a question on wether I can stall it until T5 and then win which being what the deck is mostly about seems to work out as pretty good for us. So far the only games I have dropped included 3+ Thought Knot Seers or the crazy T1 plays involving Eye of Ugin and 3+ critters.
these are all very good questions and more than giving answers I should ask them to myself first. I had dropped the deck for a long time (last time I played it part the waterveil didn't even exist yet...so I can't really answer much of your questions as I haven't played it much lately. I also only test it on cockatrice, and often people quit :/

Yeah cockatrice is often rough. I recommend making an account and then making games for registered users only as this cuts down alot on the trolls and such plus you get an ignore list.
Personally I run three Part (12 Walks total) since this gives me a reasonable certainty of finding one around when I have 9/10 mana available but I prefer Walk the Aeons mid combo since it does not exile itself and after I have a creature online it ensures I get extra turns even if I have to sac lands. I attempted to play with less walks in the deck but I found the combo failing early and losing me the game a bit too often for my taste.
Other than that cutting jace opens up more slots in your deck for disruption which only adds to the effectiveness of your deck since finding some disruption early in the game is important in surviving. Currently my suite of disruption maindeck is:
Since Gigadrowse is so much better against decks operating at instant speed while exhaustion is much better against sorcery speed decks I can board out whatever is going to be least useful but they are rarely ever dead game 1.

Epsilonson, any specefic reason you do not run any boardwipes, like Wrath- or Verdict? These was allstars back when I splashed white.
I did actually try them out with two in the board when I first went to white but I had significant trouble casting them due to not owning the Mystic Gates at the time. I will probably make room for them again and see how it goes since those are so helpful versus certain matchups including the eldrazi menace.
Let me present myself. I have been lurking here for a while already. Maybe for the last couple of months or so. I really love Modern and the amount of possiblities it presents, that's why I was drawn to this Deck through the sheer awesomeness of doing what Blue does best. Both this Deck and Elves have motivated me to finally say something. Hope I am able to contribute to this thread!
This Deck really is a blast to play, whether win or lose. As said, I have been trying this Deck for two months or so, so I want to share my list and see if anybody has inputs on it. It is still in "beta", as I want to get a better grasp for it before doing many changes, though so far I feel I am able to handle it.
I know, I need 1 Mikokoro (which I haven't been able to find). So far, the matchup I have the most problems (and which is abundant in my local meta) is Infect. Thankfully so far the locals are only starting to pick up Eldrazi, so I have no idea how this fares against them. I also, seeing a post a page back, am thinking of turning it something more like a tempo-based Deck (which was my original idea a while back, before the Twin ban) with a couple of Vapor Snag, Snapcasters, a Spell Pierce and a Halimar Depths instead of -1 Jace, -3 Sleight of Hand, -1 Gigadrowse and -1 Island. I will test this today hopefully.

I know, I need 1 Mikokoro (which I haven't been able to find). So far, the matchup I have the most problems (and which is abundant in my local meta) is Infect. Thankfully so far the locals are only starting to pick up Eldrazi, so I have no idea how this fares against them. I also, seeing a post a page back, am thinking of turning it something more like a tempo-based Deck (which was my original idea a while back, before the Twin ban) with a couple of Vapor Snag, Snapcasters, a Spell Pierce and a Halimar Depths instead of -1 Jace, -3 Sleight of Hand, -1 Gigadrowse and -1 Island. I will test this today hopefully.
