See, I think 8 removal spells is just too many. Like, far and away too many. I can see running 6 in the main, but 8? I run with just 4 paths unless I see a lot of infect and delver in the room, then I play a pair of disfigure as well. If you need THAT much removal, you should be playing grixis or UWR and chaining bolts, electrolyzes, and path/terminate with your snapcasters. If electrolyze and bolt are dead AND you need that much removal, you should actually just be playing more wraths, or your opponent isn't playing a deck that should be legal in modern. The last option is likely the actual case here, in case anybody hasn't read the Modern Nexus article from yesterday. Or two days ago now, I guess.

Got some games in against Chalice-less Eldrazi last night. Out of the 4 matches I played against the guy, I wound up grinding him out in all but the first game. The first game he wound up getting a bizarre loop with Eldrazi Displacer and Thought-Knot Seer where he just kept bouncing it and exiling things from my hand, and I just couldn't draw into any removal to save myself.
Eye of Ugin is incredibly annoying in that matchup. The fact that he can just keep tutoring up threats is the hardest thing to deal with. Once I ran him out of threats in his hand though it became much easier to deal with the stuff he tutored up. He also had far fewer god hands than I was expecting, although I nearly died on T3-4 nearly every game before stabilizing.

Locally, I see a lot of affinity, burn, infect, and now eldrazi, with the occasional stray merfolk player or someone on a random other deck. Ergo, I have a lot of cards for those matchups, the stony silences in particular. If one or two of the eldrazi players (mostly former twin players) switched to affinity, I'd play the full 4 stony silence.
Some of you may not have heard me say this, but I'm a proponent of following the "dredge" rule in nonrotating formats:
When constructing your deck, build a 14 card sideboard that includes a reasonable plan for every matchup (taking into account metagame prevalence of each matchup).
Then, identify the most busted linear deck in the top tier that operates on a somewhat different axis from the "normal magic" of the format (dredge in legacy or vintage, affinity in modern, affinity in old extended (circa 2004-2005), caw-blade in the "new" extended, etc), and add one card to your sideboard of absolute visceral hatred towards that deck. If everybody did this (normal sideboard of 14 cards + shatterstorm, creeping corrosion, hurkyl's recall, stony silence, consume the meek, dependent on what your colors are), affinity would not be a tier 1 deck after a while.
IF ANYONE IS ENTERING LANTERN'S MODERN TOURNAMENT WITH ALT-BAN LIST,
I'm willing to work with you on metagaming/tuning a deck for the event, but if I'm free that Saturday I will be serving as a judge and/or running scorkeeping for the event, not playing in it. PM me if you want to work together on tuning a control list for the event.

Eldrazi does not seem too bad at all. Only real dangerous things about eldrazi against us is their multiple mimic god hands and a timely thoughtknot seer ripping an important boardwipe.Eye of ugin late game is annoying and yopped deckdd reality smashers but outside of that we are good. The decks that are good matchups against eldrazi such as abzan company and affinity are good matchups for us as well.
I would honestly cut think twices for visions, atleast to test with.
Think twice is fast, but mana inefficient, with visions being the other way around. TT is better to dig yourself to an answer, but rarely does just flashbacking a tt hit exactly the card you needed it to.
That being said, USA control getting loothouse to ditch visions topdecked later game is a lot nicer.
If we had something like brainstorm, even without cascade, but just to get rid of extra ones, it would be almost perfect, I think.
Honestly, if we got Ancestral Visions back, I wouldn't play wafo draw-go. I'd build a more tap-out style list with mana leaks and more removal spells, fewer cryptic commands, probably some discard... lingering souls and some planeswalkers as finishers.

So I'm playing Esper tomorrow at the Open. Was gonna try UWR but I just like Esper better and feel more comfortable with it. I'll post a report of the matches sometime afer. Wish me luck!

I definitely like esper more against eldrazi than uwr and abzan company but uwr against burn and infect.

Just curious has anyone tried building an Esper walkers style deck that runs leyline of anticipation? Figured baby Jace and Lilly would be good inclusions to pitch extra copies you draw.

I'd cut the jaces but I like the ojutai's command synergy.
Four turns seems pretty slow, and on the play I could see tapping out for it turn 1 but on the draw I'd almost always rather keep up path/spell snare.
Maybe it's a card fit more for cascade strategies in modern, and not a reliable card advantage tool.

I might play something a bit slower, but I do agree playing more proactively with visions could be good.
Something like
4 lingering souls
2 sorin, lord of innistrad
2 dragonlord ojutai
2 vendilion clique
4 esper charm
2 shadow of doubt
2 remand
2 spell snare
2 logic knot (could be leak)
4 path to exile
2 flex removal (verdict, disfigure, murderous cut, condemn, etc)
Similar, though slightly different. I would probably sideboard the discard.
