Yavimaya Dryad is alright, but some games you run out of gas, and so the card advantage provided by Courser is really important, which is a big reason why it's my pick for the 3-drop slot. Nissa is great because it doesn't die to spot removal or wrath effects so you still have some devotion afterwards, so it makes removal pretty bad. She does die to creature attacks, and doesn't immediately draw cards though. They both have weakness. If the game stalls out, you an get a lot of cards from Courser, and likewise you can ultimate Nissa for a ton of cards. Ultimately I'm going with Courser because of the early game card advantage and lifegain. Nissa, and 3 Finks in the sideboard may be the correct choice, and it may just be meta dependent.

Hmm, now that I think about it more, and with your explanation, I don't think I gave Dryad enough credit. Sometimes your creatures can get wiped or you're forced to Chump block, and left with little to no devotion, so the land ramp may be the saving grace. I think a list with Dryad maindeck will need to have a Thragtusk maindeck as well, because it feels too weak to burn.
About the philosophy of finding a plan that works and stick to it. I agree, and that's why I liked the Primeval Kessig plan because it's a just a very consistent win condition. I think the Nissa list did well in Dallas because it doesn't just rely on just devotion, it can win a lot of games by just making tokens and then ulti'ing Garruk.
I've been finding that the deck just doesn't win enough to warrant me buying it and taking it to a large tournament, although I like the deck a lot. It is good, and can beat any of them, but not as consistently as I would like. If Dryad pushes it over the edge, then possibly! I'd really like to get to Mexico City but I want a deck that I feel gives me a chance of top 8'ing, and again, one that is also kind of a fringe deck.

It literally takes all of those 3-drops we keep talking about and jams them all together.
Also uses Knight of Reliquary (which I love). I was worried KOR would be too slow; but Butakov has a TON of trophies (more than anyone on MTGO I think); so if he is playing it than it has to be pretty darn good.
Exciting to see this list. I like the outside of the box thinking (of Company instead of Garruk and no Oath of Nissa)...now I love me some Garruk (and I don't see myself removing him any time soon); but nothing should be sacred...and lists like these can help breath new life into our thought processes!
Maybe that rare niche case where you are playing vs slivers and their sliver enters with only one target being their own Aether Vial? I really don't see any benefit running the Harmonic Sliver.

The more I think about it; Yavimaya Dryad seems like it would be really good in Chord decks (as it essentially counts as 2-mana for each Chord via a creature and a land). From reading it too...it seems as though you can give the opponent the Forest if you want to utilize the Forestwalk (if you have Kessig Wolf Run, etc....I honestly don't know how I missed that card in my Gatherer search; but thank you for brining it up! I'm trying it out this evening.
I feel like if I'm playing Yavimaya Dryad, however, that I would also want a 1-of Dryad Arbor (another Forest, but also a body that can be pumped, overrun, and another creature for Craterhoof).
It's good with Tireless Tracker too (another land drop) and/or Nissa Vital Force Emblems (really anything with Landfall). Many interesting possibilities. We just have too many good 3-drops
I'm not entirely sure what my last land will be. It may be a Breeding Pool or Stomping Ground to open myself up to some great sidebaord cards. If I stick with just Green White it likely will be either another Horizon Canopy or a Gavony Township.
Of course with Amonkhet Spoilers starting this coming Monday...We likely will get at least one great tool this week (I like to think positively ) that will make it that much easier to play green devotion! The glass is always half full.

Also, try saying that card's name 5 times fast. You can't... Exactly. It's a very impressive card.
I think it's a big step up from Gaea's Herald, would be redonkadonk if it had hexproof but that would be busted honestly. Maybe Hexproof instead of "can't be countered." That would still be too good at 3 mana though.

Yavimaya Dryad definitely makes playing a second color more appealing, but this IS a green devotion deck so I still doubt it's viable. I'm not so sure about Arbor, the body still dies to removal, and has sickness. Not sure it's worth the cons just for the extra blocker or creature for Big Hoofy.

I like Duskwatch Recruiter better Tireless Tracker. Tracker doesn't necessary net you cards immediately or very fast. And if it gets removed before you get more than one clue it's just a completely wasted slot. I would love to maindeck a Duskwatch, but it's really important for this deck to have Pactable, Commandable, Chordable creatures answers, and the ones I have I really don't want to take out of the maindeck. Also, it should have no less than 16 less-than-or-equal-to 3cc creatures I think. Ruric Thar is our only hope some spell based Combo decks game 1, other than outracing them, but those decks are generally built to be faster. If the deck isn't running Courser or Finks maindeck it really needs maindeck Thragtusk to deal with burn. Scavenging Ooze is needed for Dredge and Flashback combo decks and other random graveyard strategies. I could consider taking out Colossus but not in the current meta, it's our only good answer to Death's Shadow and it's really just quite a powerful creature in Devotion.
@ CurdBros
I do not think the cycle lands are good. Lands coming into play tapped is not what we want. It's at most a 1-of.
LEGACY: Soldier Stompy WW // Blue Stompy UU // Fit Variants BGRW // Sol Land Brews BGRUWC MODERN: Pure Pili-ness GU // Red Devotion RR // Green Devotion Variants GRWUG // U/G Emerge CGU // Lots and Lots of Brews BGRUWC
I actually agree with you on the Cycling land slot. I don't know if it is "better" than Horizon Canopy; but I have yet to find a ETB tapped land I felt was playable. It's just such a big downside. The fact that these are Forests (and thus can be untapped by Garruk, Arbor Elf, Nissa WW, etc.) is a BIG plus (and can be grabbed by Yavimaya Dryad as they are coming in tapped anyways, etc.) but there are just a lot of things that have to be taken into account on a deck by deck basis.
I do think they will see some Modern play, however. It is an interesting way to add a new "facet" to Modern that only a very few certain decks can take advantage of. It's the type of design I really like (regardless of whether we play one or not).
On the refilling front. This is one of the tougher things to balance in Green Devotion. I am a HUGE proponent have permanent-based card advantage. We quickly burn through cards; so it is vital to the deck that we have ways to refill when possible. Garruk, Primal Hunter is actually a great card (especially in grindy match ups). The downside of maybe hitting a Garruk Wildpesaker is not nearly as bad when you can draw into Eternal Witness...
I tend to play cards like Elvish Visionary, Wistful Selkie, Planeswalkers, Duskwatch Recruiter, etc. a little more than most. I just really think it is important that we draw as many cards as is efficiently possible. Green Devotion is best when:
1. There are a lot of green mana symbols on the board.
2. We have a Nykthos on the board.
3. We have a lot of creatures to Overrun with Garruk or Cratherhoof (assuming these are your main win-conditions).
This can only be accomplished via card-draw. There is an argument for resiliency in creatures (i.e. Predator Ooze, Kitchen Finks, Strangleroot Geist, etc.) and I look at that as "psuedo card advantage"...so that is one way to build up advantage without needing to draw cards. Also, Primal Command, Genesis Wave, Yavimaya Dryad, Genesis Hydra, Woodland Bellower, etc. all have their own built-in advantage (in the sense that they tutor/reveal other cards on top of their body/ability (obviously Genesis Wave just reveals cards; but generally will "hit" more than one). I've always said, I like to build under the philosophy that a card either (a) ramps, (b) draws a card, or (c) wins the game. Obviously it's not that simple (we need some answers, etc.); but if you can meet one of these three things on most cards you will generally do OK.
Cards like Courser of Kruphix and Tireless Tracker are great if and when the game goes long or becomes a grind/attrition fest. They are a little slower than the ETB draw a card creatures; but they make up for this by potentially "drawing" more than one card. That, and both have solid bodies for their cost (i.e. they aren't 1/1 or 2/2 like the ETB creatures). So it kind of depends on your meta which form of creature-based advantage you want.
I personally have never been the biggest fan of Harmonize (likely just do to my OCD about playing permanent-based card advantage) but it see a lot of play in a lot of green devotion decks; so it can't be that bad The fact that Eternal Witness can get it back is a big upside. I don't think people are wrong to play Harmonize...I just rarely play it.
The toughest part about playing Regal Force is that often times you wish it was just a Craterhoof Behemoth. At 7-CMC it is only one mana away from Hoof; and often times when you have 7 you have 8...and if there is enough creatures on board to make RF good; then Hoof would generally win the game. There are situations (ensaring bridge, etc.) where a Regal Force could be better...and it is a Pact/Chord target...and sometimes you do only have 7-mana (not 8)...so there are upsides. The question, however, would become, "do I want a Regal Force, or a Hornet Queen?" I'm just not sure it's worth it at 7-mana.
I kind of like Regal Force, because I want to draw cards from a creature immediately. I'm not sure it's better than Hornet Queen though in the 7-drop spot. It doesn't really "answer" anything. I'm not a huge fan of Garruk because it's 5 mana, doesn't ramp, and can't be fetched.

Another permanent based card draw source is Lifecrafter's Bestiary but it costs 3-mana, needs other creatures to draw cards and doesn't add devotion.
Maybe Soul of the Harvest can do the same while being a big beater that adds devotion.
There is also Overbeing of Myth which adds lot of devotion but is unimpressive otherwise.
Astute observation Axel. I'm kind of in the same boat with the Cat Snek. These days, counterspells aren't really a huge issue, and even if they exist in your meta, we don't have a terrible matchup anyways. The fact that the snek dies to literally all removal makes it hard to consider playing this card. I can definitely see it being played in a more aggressive list, such as Stompy, for instance.
As for the cycle lands, I'm really excited for them! I think they will be a valuable 1 or 2-of inclusion to kind of smooth things out. However with those inclusions, I would consider bumping up the land count one to compensate, as we run close to the curve as it is.
Do we want to have a bit more discussion about Death's Shadow? I played it last night and had a very hard time with it. Their ability to shred our hand and disrupt our mana dorks can be very difficult to deal with. In order to attack their gameplan I think the following cards should be considered:
Obstinate Baloth
Relic of Progenitus
Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
Chameleon Colossus
Kitchen Finks
The core engine of the Death Shadow deck revolves around delirium and discard. I believe that Relic is the best anti-graveyard tech to play against them, as it is able to slip under their turn 1 discard on the play. Scavenging Ooze is too slow in my opinion, and is vulnerable to kill spells. While Relic might not advance our gameplan, I believe it to be the best tool to slow down the opponent.
Baloth is great if you play enough of them, I was able to get 2 of them out for free last night at FNM!
Nissa provides chump blockers, end of story.
Chameleon Colossus and Kitchen Finks are resilient against their kill spells. I think after landing one of them, it will buy enough time to potentially string things together.
Thoughts?

I've seen some lists play Harmonize but I think we can do better.
What about Garruk, Primal Hunter (or maybe Nissa, Vital Force) ? He can usually draw 3-4 cards and make beasts to protect himself.
Is he better than something like Regal Force ?
Is there a better repeatable card draw source ? Tireless Tracker seems too fragile.
I quite like Duskwatch Recruiter as a mana sink.
On another note, what is the opinion on Wolfbriar Elemental as a big mana sink that can clog the ground ?
I also like Beast Within as a catch-all removal in the SB (over something like Dismember), I wonder why it doesn't see more play.
Do we play 1-2? It's a big deal to have a land we can turn into a card; but into play tapped is a big downside. Discuss
