And has anyone considered running Dosan the Falling Leaf in a more midrangey build since shapers S release ?
I thought about using it in the sideboard. Would be solid vs control matchups, but I would prefer Prowling Serpopard for that purpose. With Dosan, you lose the ability to play combat tricks during your opponent's attack, which is a pretty serious nonbo.
Trying to build a very straight forward, all around list. I've experimented with Boggart Ram-Gang but I'm not sure if I should include it. It's great for closing out games and/or applying pressure but it's only a 3/3 for 3, Leatherback Baloth doesn't have haste but it's a 4/5, Boggart Ram-Gang can just get bolted. Also considered Dungrove Elder, but I felt he was a bit too slow compared to Ram-Gang or not beefy enough compared to Baloth and he only gives one devotion while Baloth and Ram-Gang both give 3.
Below is the most recent placing Green Stompy deck I saw in tournaments. Runs 2 Ram-Gang's and 2 Dungrove Elder, keeps his Dismember's and Scavenging Ooze's sideboarded with 1 Collected Company in the sideboard, plus a full 4 of each on Vines, Aspect, Rancor. I thought that was interesting, I've been wondering if Ram-Gang is best with CoCo, which it probably is, but this guy doesn't even mainboard his single CoCo, so maybe I should play Ram-Gang mainboard and maybe put my dismember/scooze's in sideboard. Any advice is appreciated.
I started with 4 Leatherback Baloths, but more often than not I found that late game I wanted creatures that could do damage the turn it hit the field. (Plus, Path to Exile doesn't care how big the creature is.) As a result, I've settled on 3 Boggart Ram-Gangs and 2 Leatherbacks.
I'll go to a FNM tonight and instead of a classic stompy deck, I want to play with something fancier. It has the classic stompy shell with some adjustments to be able to play Hardened Scales. I've been playing with a similar list on mtgo (-2 Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, -1 Scavenging Ooze and +2 Great Sable Stag, +1 Wheel of Sun and Moon) and it's a fun deck to play with and to some extent a powerful one also. I have an acceptable win percentage in 2 man queues, but I don't think it's optimized enough to play in a league so I never gave them a shot.
My biggest concern is not having a place for Dryad Militant. Any of you guys played something similar before?
Edit: Maybe I can go down 1 Scavenging Ooze and 1 Natural State and go up 2 Mutant's Prey in the sideboard. Might help against storm, which ooze is mostly slow agains, and shadow decks.
I've thought about Oran-Rief, the Vastwood vs. Llanowar Reborn a lot and both have advantages on their own. I've chosen the latter as it doesn't require me to spend mana to have the counter, I feel like the former would be a lot better in a tokens shell. Maybe a 1 of can be useful, it's just I felt I had 2 spots for tap lands and given priority to Llanowar Reborn on both spots.
Ugh don't play Oran-rief, in Stompy. The sacrifices and the timing issues it gives a straight up agro deck like this aren't worth the hoops your jumping through to get 1, +1 counter, on one creature once. The reason I say this is that Oran-reif is better in a big mana deck or something that generates mana in bunches so that you can play 3 or more creature spells and then only have to work the timing once. Llanowar reborn would be the better choice of the two since its when a creature comes into play and its a may not a must without the timing issues. Still isn't the best play in getting rid of treetops which can be extra dps.
Also why fetches @Phaircaron? They don't do anything like thinning unless you play 12 minimum and even then you really don't need them to look for anything like a dual land. It seems needlessly excessive considering it only feeds Tarmogoyf and reliquary. If you added them for a black splash for fatal push or to lower the dismember damage I could see throwing some in but not just for the giggles.
It’s actually permanent leaves the battlefield (not that it’s any different in this case but the more you know...). Things bouncing or getting exiled still triggers Revolt, too.
Has someone tried Prowling Serpopard? I've had hard times playing against heavy counterspells deck and I was wondering if it's worth adding 1x of it in the sideboard. Now I use 2x of autumn's veil in the side but I don't think is enough and it's quite frustraiting to see your creatures being countered so many times. Do you have any idea? (not only about the serpopard)
Hey guys, been lurking around this thread for a little while hoping to find a better build for my mono green stompy deck. I decided to go with amicdeep's build and I managed to get all of the stuff today. I've been goldfishing it today and so far, I love the speed it has. I also decided not to go with Horizon Canopy at this time, because of the upcoming reprint.I decided to go with Razorverge Thicket in its place until then. I was wondering if there is a general guide on how to play this version and a SB guide for various matchups. I see eldrazi tron, affinity, burn, merfolk, storm, ad nauseum, and several other deckt at my local every week, and those matchups have always been tough for me. I just got back into the game after a long time of not playing, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Serpopard is an excellent SB card against decks that run mainboard chalice. As chalice doesn't stop casting it just counters. Also being a big beater makes it superior to veil in my opinion.

Smuggler's Copter: I really like Merfolk Branchwalker, and I think the card value is great, which is why I'm considering Smuggler's Copter. This is probably the worst card out of my considerations, and I know it's anti-synergistic with Experiment One and Aspect of Hydra, but it's possible (this is a very big if) that the card advantage is more important to search up the threats and answers I desperately need. Since we don't really need a lot of lands, I could simply discard those while looting. Merfolk has often had success with it, maybe Mono Green Stompy could too.
Shapers' Sanctuary: Like I said, there's a lot of control at my LGS, and Shapers' Sanctuary might just be the thing for me. For every threat they get rid of, I pretty much just draw up a new one. That way I won't run out of threats, but control decks might run out of answers. This is a sideboard card, obviously.
Heroic Intervention: In some control matchups, like Jeskai control, I either win or lose, and that depends on whether or not my opponent has a boardwipe or not. They can't really out-value our deck with one for one answers, but a boardwipe will set us back to zero. The real question I have is whether I should play Heroic Intervention or play more creatures that are resilient to boardwipes (I already run Strangleroot Geist, regenerating Experiment One can be relevant, and I'm thinking about Kitchen Finks). Rhonas the Indomitable seems like it could replace Dungrove Elder, even if I'm running a lot of Forests.
3 Treetop Village is probably too much. The card is very slow, and I almost never find myself wanting to spend the mana on it, and drawing two in your first few turns would be quite bad. I'd probably drop from 2 to 1 if I started playing this deck a lot again.
Like I said, I play against a lot of control. Sometimes it's just the card I need to finish off games. But you're right, drawing two is a pain. I might drop down to two copies of Treetop Village, but not one. I would understand if your metagame is different, but mine requires at least two.
In the mirror? So they can outright kill your Frost Walker with Vines of Vastwood, Aspect of Hydra, even Rancor? You can never actually boost or protect your Frost Walker with any of the boost or protection spells Stompy typically runs? Is that deck even Stompy at all? The lack of ability to play boosts is the reason we don't play Scythe Tiger.
Sure let them kill frost walker with a vines...still evolved e1.I also play 4 mutagenic growth, 3 aspect, 4 vines, 3 rancors...so yes I play "boosts"...frost walker also trades with tks which is 100% relevant. I have a decent win record on mtgo. Tuning my stompy cruise shell then I'll hop into friendlys.
And also we don't play scythe tiger because of the timewalk effect , not because we can't target it.
I thought about using it in the sideboard. Would be solid vs control matchups, but I would prefer Prowling Serpopard for that purpose. With Dosan, you lose the ability to play combat tricks during your opponent's attack, which is a pretty serious nonbo.
