28% is the same chance of getting a 1 or no land hand for Burn, and as I stated before, both talking from experience playing the deck and from talking to other players, Burn really wants that third land, and I'm not seeing them playing 22 lands. And remember, they run 8 to 10 fetch lands. The thing is, mana base is not the only thing that matters, it also matters how you play. Sincerely, I have said it before and I say it once again, I rarely have problems with mana, and that is because I don't try to flood the battlefield with creatures by turn three, nor do I try to play 3 drops and multiple other 1/2 drops instants by turn five. Massive removals are a thing, removal spells in general exist. I said it before and I am going to say it again: everything depends on meta. My meta is heavy on removal, that's why I play Dungrove Elder: it is a BOMB. You don't want to lose all your creatures to a turn three Anger of the Gods -has happened to me so many times... Luckily, I always have one creature in hand for this kind of things- That's why in my meta Treetop Village -or for that matter, most elemental lands- doesn't see play: it's going to die as soon as you transform it, and then you will have lost a land, the two mana you spend to transform it, and, depending on the turn you did it, your turn. I don't know how is the meta in other areas of the world, or in MTGO, as I only play pauper, but I do know how it is here, and I do know how the deck has worked for me for over a year playing with 20 lands. Until now, I have made several top 8 in LGS leagues -usually lost to decks that are basically our Waterloo, like Tron-, I have performed pretty well in FNMs, and I have had good experiences in other types of tournaments. So yeah, I don't think I have an unplayable deck. I think that I have a deck adapted to local meta, that maybe I would have to change in other areas, but that's part of the fun of this game: experimenting, trying new things.
Burn does not always want the 3rd land.... This deck needs it so much more than Burn does. And all of Burn's 1 drops are live. Almost none of ours is unless you already have a board. Your meta argument meant literally nothing. I really don't even have to respond to it.
Hey guys! I am getting stompy to let a friend use for a deck, and I want to get him the most competitive list possible (sans Horizon Canopys can not afford those so I prefer mono green). This is the list I made that I have been testing with
4 Aspect of Hydra
4 Avatar of the Resolute
4 Blossoming Defense
4 Dryad Militant
4 Experiment One
18 Forest
4 Garruk's Companion
4 Leatherback Baloth
4 Rancor
4 Strangleroot Geist
2 Treetop Village
4 Vines of Vastwood
SB: 2 Deglamer
SB: 4 Feed the Clan
SB: 4 Natural State
SB: 4 Scavenging Ooze
SB: 1 Thrun, the Last Troll
I chose Companion over Tusker for the trample being a better tradeoff then one toughness (correct me if I am wrong). I am open to change anything as long as I can understand why the changes are needed. Thank you in advance :).

It really depends on your meta. Mine is full of 2/x so that 1 thougness is really important. Tuskerr also survives pyroclasm, kozilek's return, kolaghan's command, electrolyze and few others
After some testing, for the sideboard -1 Natural State -1 Feed the Clan +2 Dismember and for the mainboard +2 Scavenging Ooze -1 Rancor -1 Blossoming Defense. I also cut 2 Scavenging Ooze and the Thrun from the board for 3 Dungrove Elders. The changes have made the deck much better.
Is there a dream card we need from WotC to further advance Stompy in this Modern meta? Something that can possibly make this deck break through to Tier 2 at least? I'm really curious.
A one drop that good would be played in Zoo or simply better decks. It is hard to design good cards for Stompy. I would simply be happy with a 1 drop with 2 power and a conditional way to get 3 toughness aligned with how stompy plays. Yes another Kird Ape. This way our one drops are more live throughout the game and it is able to evolve E1 past 2 with just 1 mana which allows for more plays.

A year ago, if I remember correctly this deck already broke into Tier 2. Unfortunately, we were demoted to Developing Comnpetitive and have not been able to return to tier 2 since then.
My one hope is for WotC gives us another strong card similar to Strangleroot Geist, 2 power that automatically grows to 3 power when killed, haste and need to be killed twice. That would allow us to have 8 two cmc haste creatures in main deck to speed up the damage. Well, and in case someone would mention we already have Young Wolf.. the wolf is too weak, a 1/1 with double life is not threatening enough.
Also dropping one Deglamer in my sideboard to add one more Tormods Crypt. Affinity, Lantern Control, and Tron are on the decline in my area.. while Dredge is on the rise. Dredge is just so fast... even a turn 2 Scavenging Ooze sometimes feels too slow.
Ive been wishing for a green goblin guide every day since I first built this deck. But I like bbearz idea too. A 2/3 for 1 be just as dope. Maybe something like vine dryad but a 2/3

Spend only mana produced by basic forests to cast Overshadowed Barkling.
Overshadowed Barkling gets -1/-1 for each nonbasic land you control. G, sacrifice Overshadowed Barkling: Choose target artifact or enchantment. Its owner shuffles it into his or her library.

Thanks for the insight guys. I really agree on another Strangleroot Geist. Maybe give this one trample too so it can easily replace Avatar of the Resolute? Or something like:
Aethermane Howler GGG
Creature - Beast - R
Haste
When Aethermane Howler enters the battlefield, you get EEE (three energy counters).
When Aethermane Howler dies, you may pay EEE. If you do, search your library for a green creature card with power 4 or less and put it into play. Then shuffle your library. Exile Aethermane Howler this way.
3/3
I know another strangleroot geist is what people want- I would love another one but our 1 drop game is too weak right now. I think we really need a good 1 drop if we are relying on Kessig Prowler. Also that 3 mana 3 energy creature is absolutely stupid. It is too good and would be played in combo easily.....
We need a hateful curve-topper like Tanglewire. That was the old mono green jam. Play threats on first two turns. Lock em down third turn. Deploy pumps with trigger on stack for lethal on fourth. Was hoping for some form of emerging Acidic Slime type creature but alas.

Tangle Wire in Modern. Ha GL pitching that idea to R & D. I am sorry guys almost all of your suggestions are just unrealistic.. A 3/3 for 1 and with the ability to naturalize? A 3/3 Haste for 3 with the ability to get a 4 drop or less when destroyed? Comon. Tangle Wire in Modern? Be real. Here I am just asking for our Kird Ape and you guys are asking for bonkers.
I don't have the cards to try it out myself, but I think we actually have a way to make this deck work by splashing white. With 4 Temple Gardens and 4 Windswept Heaths you have the based. Path to Exile instead of Dismember practically fixes the Tron match up to even and means some amount can stay in against burn. Then you have sideboard options of Rest in Peace, Gaddock Teeg, Stony Silence, Kataki, War's Wage. I feel like easy access to those silver bullets help with our worst match ups while leaving the base strategy unchanged.
This actually seems reasonable and its something that can be tried now.
it seems that others here have said time and time again that when we start splashing, we are just playing bad versions of other decks. The painless manabase gives us more of an advantage than a lot of ppl realize especially when you're racing another aggro deck and swinging out every turn. Getting a 1 drop with some sort of basic lands matters buff or mechanic or ability I think would push us up into the top tiers and also be card that also wouldn't become playable in zoo and naya burn.
I also always find myself siding in 2 root maze against almost any deck that plays lots of fetches or tron lands and its been good. If we get a Root maze on a stick as a 1 drop that might be the missing piece. Kinda like what Dryad Militant does against goyfs.
Bbearz is right.
also I second root maze on a stick. Even regulAr root maze is good right now. Coming from the guy whos been playing the deck since its birth, right now its very very good. Wish U control varients were more dominant cuz we can hate them out so well and they would prey on combo which would discourage it.
anyway we can hope for a good one drop but the real thing is only a small number of People play this deck which in turn makes the data and experimentation insufficient. More people experimenting and siding optimally would carry us higher but we need the means to make it convincingly competitive, hence the need for one more main deck "hatestick" creature like dryad and scooze.
