Is no one running a list without BB? I'm working on a list utilizing bounce effects to out-value and Aether Vial to free up mana for flash plays and removal. Also I've found Thassa to be sneaky tech in this deck, filtering draws and beating down. It's one drawback( squishy to path and exile effects) is mitigated by the devotion mechanism. Bouncing a faerie when your devotion is at 5 to fizzle a path seems sweet with the upside of repeated CIP triggers. Will post a list this evening for feedback.
Hey everyone. I made a 50 minute deck primer on the faeries deck I will be playing at GP Vegas. I've been playing faeries for a long time at my local store and after Paulos CFB videos came out my friends wanted me to make a video for my channel going much deeper into the deck so they can see my take on his version he played that I have also largely played. In the video I go pretty deep into everything from card choices mana choices creature selection choices and all of the tricks the deck runs as well as some advanced help on triggers and strategy. Feel free to watch if you're interested https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CVhrOPjyOyc

Not a bad video, outside of being a discard faeries player myself I think your perspectives are spot on. You have pretty much voiced the beliefs about faeries that I promote in the discord discussion. I also think the smother should be a different removal spell like Go for the Throat or dismember

Decks I have in my bag of tricks- Needless to say, someone who wants to play will probably have a deck UB/x Faeries UR Storm XURWB Affinity G Elves UW control
I was on discard faeries for many years. I don't fault anyone for playing it over the version I posted in my video. I think the most important thing we can acknowledge as a faeries community is that the deck is a lot more flexible and able to adapt to the tastes and the love of the pilots than most other decks on here which are largely solved. I know many people that play faeries with discard or without, or that play no snaps or play 4 or play no mistbinds or play 4 or play no scions or play 4 or play no serums or 4 and it's pretty safe to say that neither are right or wrong. As for the removal that belongs in the SB, it's mostly just a matter of guessing what you'll play against. Smother could have been anything

I'd like to see your list. I was playing around with vial recently and really enjoyed it. Had decent finishes in MTGO comp leagues. Sower of Temptation at instant speed was juicy. Especially with quickling to bounce and re-vial out. I was still maindecking 3-4 BB though because it's a win-con.

^^Agreed with all the flexibility, I'm constantly bouncing between all those different choices you mention. (and I think he just means, Push replaced Smother 100% so there's no point running Smother ever again.)
Hey so I made a few changes to my list, definitely trying to be a controlling build.
My only thing is that I want to maindeck 2x Spell Snare, but I have no idea what to take out to make room. Any opinions? I was thinking about maybe putting AV back in the side, but the payoff is just too good when it comes off suspend.

Would recommend cutting thoughtseize for spell snare. Faeries have no way of gaining life, and although I appreciate the added disruption card removal adds, with bitterblossom in teh deck, AND 4 polluted delta it's tough to take those extra hits.
Sower of Temptation is something I totally overlooked. I've considered Phantasmal Image as well. Honestly, I play Merfolk as well and found a lot of the strengths of their deck translate well here. I'm awaiting my playset of Metallic Mimic to test. I think Faeries are extraordinarily well positioned vs the rest of the meta. There are decks that flat beat us but I feel they are largely fringe. And the sickest bit is that the deck has far more flex slots than my fish deck, potentially becoming a Swiss army knife you poke and jab your opponent to death with.
Sower is ok if you can protect it. For one more mana you could play bribery and just steal the biggest threat your opponent has and not have to worry about something happening to your sower.
Sower seems like living the dream. My deck actually becomes quite spot removal resistant with the high number of bounce effects. It's kinda part of the design. My biggest issue is with well timed discard t1 to turn 3, but even this is typically not gamebreaking. I think curio is a card that could aid a lot of faerie decks. It doesn't target like other bounce effects ( making it still work with a Scion in play), you choose whether to bounce or not, allowing you to add board presence, and against sweepers , flashing in a Quicking to save two Scions only to replay them later makes opponent Salter than the Dead Sea.
I've been tinkering around with Faeries for a few months now, both the mono-u version and UB. I'd been trying to get swords to work in the build, but most decks are running some form of spot removal or another, and it got pretty frustrating hsving the creature get removed in response to an equip. It's also a pretty big non-bo with Scion and shroud.
I'm finding Smuggler's Copter to be a nice in-between. It's cheaper than a sword, you don't need to pay mana to equip, and it even puts the summoning-sick Blossom tokens to work. The card filtering is nice and the opportunity cost for using it is low.
I think sword faeries suffers from the anti-synergy with Scion too much for as fast a format as Modern has become. Scion is the lone faerie Lord atm, with cards like Adapative Automaton and Metallic Mimic as possible lords 5-8. We can also play Phantasmal Image but that comes with the caveat of being 1) limited with a pair of Scions in play and 2) vulnerable to 2 for 1 If they target what you copy. Honestly, though the additional Lord plan with enough bounce effects, if worked out correctly could be a thing.
We can also play Phantasmal Image but that comes with the caveat of being 1) limited with a pair of Scions in play and 2) vulnerable to 2 for 1 If they target what you copy. Honestly,
When Phantasmal Image enters the battlefield, it enters as the creature of your choise. They don't have priority to destroy the creature you choose to copy when it comes into play. And it is indeed choose effect. It goes through hexproof and shroud since the ability itself doesn't target.
It also works with Mistbind Clique since Champion doesn't target and destroy the image.
Interesting choice of Hero's Downfall in the first list. Resolved walkers are generally annoying, but is it necessary given all of the flyers and Creeping Tar Pit? Think Twice is also an interesting mana concession for the sake of flexibility. Also note 4(!) Brutalities main.
The second list looks more standard, but ditches Visions.
Both are running Leyline of the Void, which I think is absolutely the correct choice right now, given the strength of GY-based decks (looking at DSJ and Dredge, or even any Snapcaster Deck).
discarding think twice to brutality is also value, but can't say think twice really belongs in faeries.
We generally have more proactive things to use our mana on.
What do we think of As Foretold? It seems really abusable l in our deck with all the instant speed interaction and getting it to 2 counters basically puts our opponent in a hard lock while we get to cast free counters and or removal spells each turn. Not to mention casting AV the turn it comes down. you could also play discard and push after ticking it up to 1 counter.
Being able to cast discard at instant speed is pretty good, as we can cast it during their draw step (if I understand the card correctly).
That being said, I feel like its really hard to evaluate, as it doesn't do anything by itself, but I'm hopeful.
Edit: apparently you can still only cast sorceries as sorceries, so discard doesn't work as well. Still quite interesting nonetheless.

** Keep reading before pointing out that it's a cumulative effect.
The beauty of the card relies is that it reads [...]with converted mana cost X or less[...], which is a real treat, as it means that all the spells mentioned in the 'turn before' are cumulative in every turn, so if you have 3 counters you can still play a free Vision and keep up a free V clique in draw step. All this while using no mana: up to 2 spells per turn cycle for free.
The card has a high floor (it is a 3CMC sorcery speed spell, only good when you're drawing a good amount of cards) and an even higher ceiling (it can outright win the game if not answered/properly protected).
All in all, I think it's a pretty good card to play in the sideboard to keep up with decks that try to do serious business and our tempo doesn't catch up properly mid-to-late game. It's more of a mainboard material in combo decks.

I actually just went UP to 3 Thoughtseize from a 2/4 split with IoK and the deck actually runs a lot smoother. Thoughtseize is the best way to deal with threats in the deck, especially the ones it has the most trouble with (TKS, Smasher, Tron threats). It's also part of the reason I was able to make the creature removal package lighter and move AV maindeck.
I guess it's not that I need 2 Snare maindeck, but it's too good of a card on the draw that having it a decent amount of the time in a opener seems like a good payoff? Am I wrong on this and maybe that's a wishful thinking scenario?

It goes like this:
T3:You resolve it, then you can play a free Ancestral Vision. Opponent's Turn, you get nothing.
T4: You tick it up, then you can play a free Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, Serum Visions or Fatal Push. Opp's turn, you can play a free Fatal Push, Spell Snare or Dispel.
T5: You tick it up, then you can play a free Bitterblossom, Spellstutter Sprite, Go for the Throat, Mana Leak, Remand or Collective Brutality. Opp's turn, you can play a free Spellstutter Sprite, Go for the Throat, Mana Leak, Remand, Countersquall or Echoing Truth.
T6: You tick it up, then you can play a free Vendilion Clique, Dismember, Liliana of the Veil, Liliana, the Last Hope, Scion of Oona, Sword[/sword] [card=Sword of Light and Shadow]of X and [card=Sword of Body and Mind]Y or Hero's Downfall. Opp's turn, you can play a free Vendilion Clique, Dismember, Scion of Oona or Hero's Downfall.
T7: You tick it up, then you can play a free Damnation, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Mistbind Clique, Cryptic Command. Opp's turn, you can play a free Mistbind Clique or Cryptic Command.
