Not having fetches and shocklands or whatever-you-call-the-new-ones makes you weaker to Blood Moon and will get you mana screwed in the sense that you are forced to topdeck the colors you need to cast your spells. Try to go that route against Merfolk (Spreading Seas, Sea's Claim), BGx/Grixis (Fulminator Mage) or Burn (Molten Rain) and see how far you can get.
If you aren't playing shocks and basics, you can always play more basics. I play a lot of man-lands, so those draw fire for some land-hate.
Color screwing loses effectiveness against basic lands, even without fetchs, and I'm rarely blow out by blood moon.
I don't see the point. I prefer having painless manabase against aggro and especially burn rather than worrying molten rain effects. You definitely don't want island against merfolk either.
If you're playing against merfolk, play your islands. Sure, wait as long as you can, but play them. If you hold onto them in hopes of not losing to islandwalk, you're still going to lose. Also an important note, but I highly believe that while 8-seas fish is gaining popularity, its about to drop back down a notch. Its not something I would worry about too much.
If you guys want something new, go jam harbingers + mistbinds. If you're playing cryptics for the fog, just play a 4/4 flier with it. Maybe I'm just talking to myself, but it feels incredibly powerful.

This doesn't make much sense. My argument is based on a 3 color deck not running fetches and fetch-able dual lands. Never mentioned anything about not playing basics, there aren't really any decks apart form burn not running basics (in burn's case plains and forests), and shouldn't be decks in modern in general not running basics apart from 1 or 2 exceptions (like suicide zoo). Having 5+ manlands is bad unless straight UB with tar pits and mutavaults as full sets, which I also play in UB faeries.

Again holding islands in hand is not something I've said at any point. If your only red/black source is denied (by any effect that destroys it or turns it into a basic island) and you don't play fetches you will not get out from the mana screw unless you get lucky from the top deck. You can't expect to topdeck the lands you need out of cuteness, it just doesn't work. That will prevent you from casting cards in your hand. That is a really bad choice for 3 colored decks. Now if you run 8 fetches and fetchabel 4/5 duals and tar pits/sulfur falls/drowned catacomb, chances are if you topdeck a land (or have a fetch in hand), you will be able to come back and keep casting spells.
I think you didn't read what I wrote correctly, as you don't seem to be speaking about the landbase of a 3 colored deck. Or maybe I missed something and I'm not on the same page.

In Lorwyn's brief evenings, the sun pauses at the horizon long enough for a certain species of violet to bloom with the fragrance of mischief.
Since I'm new i checked the dicussions and I'm pretty sure what we actually need was allready discussed 1year ago. We need a card, that ether pumps bb tokken an puts us into a more agressive position or a card that gives us massive life advantage so we can ignore the bb lifeloss and curve out against aggro decks. As someone who used to play bw-tokken I would therefore strongly suggest going for a really small esper splash and putting in sorin solemn visitor. I know it will be hard to cut any other 4cmc thread, but he can just insanly turn the table and with his -2 even helps on an empty board. Since many of were allready or still are running wurmcoil/batterskull there should be a way to put him in and he can easily compensate for the damage we are expecting from the higher number of fetches/shocks. I wouldn'go dig to deep into white though and stick to the ub core. Path might be the removal answer we are looking for, but I wouldn't go for anything else like colonade, espercharm... Maybe we could find space for white cards in oursideboard like stony silence since we can expect not only affinity but also lantern control to be a Problem in the future.
I started to think about splashing or even add white after analyze most of problematic decks for me, coz white have cheap removal for creatures and enchantments, Supreme Verdict, white Leyline, and can give for our faeries lifegain. But i don't know what kind of manabase should i have for it (there is so much variants )

When I tried the white splash this is what I put together as manabase:
I think once BFZ hits I'm gonna throw together a U/W Fae list with Geists and the new duals to support Paths and the Islands that will be coming out every turn. Might be fun. I'll post a list once I figure everything out.
The bw lifelink manland could be useful to help alleviate damage while also aiding a splash. It's certainly not as strong as tar pit, and I can see it being awkward to turn on and to safely swing with, but it's the only card I've seen in BFZ that made me think about faeries.
Still not sure a splash is where we want to be, but it seems more reasonable than colonnade for the esper builds.
Going to go try that in the next event and see how it plays out. I saw lots of combo and aggro last time I went so I'm thinking this list should do fine. I want to see how often I can get a big swing going with the Charm's Lifelink mode.

There is also the new 2U counterspell. Exiled unless they pay 4 is a bit more potent than mana leak, but I'm not sure the 1 extra colorless is worth it. I think the BW mankind has to be a consideration if esper fae wants to be a thing.
Hi so I've loved the faeries deck ever since its time in standard so I wanted to build it in modern. Now my list is sort of budget in a sense meaning when possible I'd like to avoid super expensive cards but I'll still buy them eventually. I just wanted advice on what to get and how the list looks. Thank you!!
So yeah nay help on refining the deck would help as well as coming up with a sideboard. So far the decks I've seen in my meta are 2 Collected Company Elves, 3 Sliver Decks, Mono-White Aggro, Mono White knights, BW Tokens, infect, White lifegain, RG tron, Boggles, and a shadowborn Apostle Deck.

So yeah any and all help appreciated, TY!
mutavault, Cryptic, thoughtseize, and IoK, are pretty much core needed cards in order for the deck to work. get them asap
The problem with modern and other older formats is the gulf in power level between similar cards are too big to be competitive with.
So discussing some new cards? Spoiler tags for those who don't want to see them yet.
Fathom Feeder : I feel that this card has potential in a UB control deck. It trades with everything and has a function late game. But the fact that it's not a faerie probably makes it useless for us. Maybe a 2-off to not dilute our deck too much?
Blighted Fen or Blighted Cataract : These look like great options for colorless lands number 5/6. I think we would probably want the Blighted Fen more because it's cheaper and has an immediate impact on the game.
Blighted Steppe : This might be fine for the UBw version of the deck, but the mana base probably can't support it if you want Mutavault.
I don't think the deck can support anymore colorless. You probably want LD as your 5/6 slots and spending turn 6+ keeping mana open to draw/force a sac doesn't seem like something we care about when we can straight up kill things already.
I mean if Thrun and Geist were bigger threats then sure the black land might be a thing, however you might as well just run Think Twice if you really want instant speed card draw.
I actually like 2 ven clique 1 scion 2 more in the sb, so a third scion wouldnt hurt against midrange (you want to become the beatdown here every time) but the list looks fine. Serum visions feels underpowered in my testing, but I hope they work for you (I play 2 snapcaster 2 equipment here)

serum has been amazing it fixes mana flood and mana screw and helps set up plays 2-3 turns down the line
as for vendilion shes been terrible i started with 3 and slowly been cutting them down
scion i started with 4 and cut them down to 3 and still found 3Mb to be too much against some matchups i really want to play a 3rd in the board but i have no idea what to cut
Monastery siege has been great in nearly every game it can be use when you are the beatdown and want draw or protect your creatures or just extra draw vs midrange /control is really good
Non Pain lands have saved me so many times it's nuts
I crushed grixis control at a GPT (only 9 people showed up) bringing 2 monastery siege and 2 scion of oona in from my sb and boarding out my grafted wargear, so I can understand it being good there, It just doesnt promote the angle of pressure I need game 1 to be MD. And painless manabases really help vs burn and merfolk. it looks like it is a tough call on what to cut for a third scion though

Interesting. Wonder why Vendilion wasn't working out for you. I am planning to use three but will try and test it more. Also I want to use scions instead of snapcasters but I can't decide. I was also considering condescend as one of my counterspells for the 1 mana scry 2 if I target my own spell.
I play with three v Clique, and it has always performed well. If they kill it, you still get the effect, it helps your own hand if really necessary, gets you very valuable information, disrupts, if It lives it can trade with a lot or provide a good beat stick. I've only been disappointed to see it a couple of times, like when I really need to pull a sideboard card.
Hi everyone. Returning player after about 2 year's and I am looking for a modern deck to invest in again. Does U/x Faeries have what it takes to win? I piloted Mono U Faeries for about a year with a few ptq top8's and I loved that deck. I have been thinking about going back to mono blue fae even.
Try mono blue and see how it works for you.
I wouldn't suggest investing in Fae right now if your goal is to consistently win events.
If you want to just play the meta game and have fun then go for it.
Played a win-a-Modern Masters box tournament this weekend. Six swiss rounds with top8. Lost in semifinals. In my way, lost 1-2 to Grixis Twin, won 2-1 against Affinity twice, 2-0 against Jeskai combo and 2-1 against 8-Rack before ID'ing into top8, where I beat Burn 2-1 and lost to Collected Naya 0-2.

When I tried the white splash this is what I put together as manabase:
2x Celestial Colonnade
2x Creeping Tar Pit
3x Polluted Delta
3x Flooded Strand
1x Watery Grave
1x Godless Shrine
1x Hallowed Fountain
1x Glacial Fortress
1x Drowned Catacomb
2x Secluded Glen
3x Island
1x Plains
1x Swamp
It supported 3x Path to Exile, 1x Sphinx's Revelation mainboard and 2x Supreme Verdict, 2x Geist of Saint Traft, 3x Lingering Souls, 1x Path to Exile sideboard. I would make some changes today, these were the cards I picked around 3 months ago. Definitely would use more fetches, les checklands and add the painless duals from BFZ.
Still not sure a splash is where we want to be, but it seems more reasonable than colonnade for the esper builds.
