This is the list that I'm testing, without Liliana of the Veil. I think Sorin fits better than Lili in this build because of lingering and pyromancer, I'm planning to test the new Liliana instead Sorin and LoTV.
I think the mana base is weak too and wanna hear your suggestions!
I have scoured the internet searching for good mardu decks, and all of them just scream to me, just play jund. So I wanted to make a mardu deck that as good enough to not just be "bad jund". Nahiri is one of those cards that jund doesn't have access too, and that abzan doesn't have access too. So I came up with a list like this:
I wanted some feedback and advice as too if I am missing anything good on here, as well as what a valid sideboard might be. I feel like mardu should be good in modern, and I want to make it that way.
It's very much a first-pass, but an interesting idea I had a long time ago that I always dismissed as impossible and finally made a list for. Turns out splashing Colorless is actually pretty feasible, if you don't mind trying to dodge Blood Moon.
Thought you folks might find it interesting or have some feedback.

I dont feel like it worth playing 7 pain lands just to run Thought-Knot especially since you can't cast it T3 or T4 anyway. Blood moon is also quite popular right now and 2 Manland is quite low for a midrange deck IMO.
This deck recently went 5-0. Looks to be a token/mentor build. Can someone run me down on the positive and negative match ups of a deck like this? I love Mardu Midrange decks and this looks fun. Any changes you would make?
For those running Nahiri and bob, do you side out bob against jeskai? He rarely stays alive and there is not much to side out other than him.
I think it matters more what you are bringing into the match up as well. Kambal and Rest in Peace are often what I aim to grab unless it is Jeskai Nahiri, then I also have Crackling Doom for emrakul.
Haven't had a chance to play the deck often, been busy with school these days
So, as someone new to the deck (running it proxied until I can finish it out), why don't people run Terminate? I can understand that Path hits more despite its downside and Helix gains life despite not always killing, but are these the only reasons I don't see Terminate in any lists? Or Dreadbore or a split of them? I'm not familiar enough with our MUs to know if it has something to do with that, but I am rather curious.
I dunno what you are seeing but terminate is definitely played. Sure it's usually not more than a 1 of but it certainly is. I play a dreadbore/term split and always been happy with it

I find Terminate competes for space with Lightning Helix, and right now I think the Helixs are much more valuable. Path, Lili and Nahiri can all deal with the big creatures. Bolt and Helix are there for the little ones. I also never really feel the urge to run Dreadbore, Lingering souls and bolts usually clean up other planeswalkers.
the Heart of Kiran the new vehicle seems great in mardu since we sometimes run about 8+ walkers. With such High loyalty walkers like nahiri or gideon, you can minus her to exile a dude then still have enough to crew the ship (can do it on opponents turns to block). plus works great with wipes. Conversely, it's not easy to crew without a walker.
not saying it's a 4 of but seems like it could be spicy
@Akalah
Im willing to give Heart of Kiran a try. It certainly feels aggressive enough to apply pressure while ticking up Nahiri. The major concerns I have is that it's basically a dead draw in a from-behind situation, and without a walker the only way to crew it is to have at least 3 spirit tokens.(given the 'stock' list) Because of this I'm not convinced that it's better than either Bob or Wall of Omens in this deck.
But I am still willing to proxy it, and give it a whirl. I've been wrong before.
My biggest doubt is which creatures to put on the deck. The control part seems ok but I guess We lack of good creatures. What do you guys suggest?
We've been over this a couple million times. There really are not efficient beaters for Mardu (if anyone disagrees they are probably being overly optimistic). Nothing compares to Goyf or Ooze for 2-mana. My personal suggestion is to lean on a token build with Bitterblossom, Lingering Souls, Raise the Alarm, etc. with anthem support. These do well against the spot removal decks and can put up a decent clock for a Mardu control deck.

I completely agree with you. I've testing a tokens build with Sorin Visitor and Ajani steadfast, Bitterblossom, Lingering adn etc. Much more consistent, better clock and resilent
Picking up the deck after a long time away, quite the work reobtaining the cards I used to have. I don't like playing Tokens and don't have enough of the cards to go pure Midrange, so I'm going for more Control style. Land wise I think I'm ok with what I have, but I really wish I had the funds to purchase Bobs or more walkers but I'm working with what I have.
Ajani Vengeant is a placeholder until I can get 2 more Nahiri. I'd like to find room for a Terminate/Dreadbore/Anger of the Gods but I'm not sure what spells to cut for them, though I am leaning towards cutting Liliana as there's only 1 of her. Also dont have Bob so Sin Prodder is my budget replacement.

I don't know, outside of bob, wall or Lili - I'm not sure what we'd want to throw down at sorcery speed.
