I can see your arguments for things like Teeg, Padeem, and Magus in that they can't be grabbed via Stirrings and that there are artifacts that can do the same things.
The way I see it, though, is that they diversify our answers. One of the problems here as of late for us is that our cards are kind of linear - They're pretty much all non-creature artifacts. Thus, Kolaghan's Command, Ceremonious Rejection, Stubborn Denial, etc., are great against us. What these creatures do is supplement our artifact suite, but are harder to answer because it forces the opponent to also diversify their answers to our answers.
Again, I'm not going to say with absolute certainty that it's correct, but it seems to be at least worth discussing, if not testing. I just got done testing vs. Grixis Shadow tonight at the LGS (except they ran Kolaghan's Commands) and it was miserable That was before Magus, though. If I'd drawn a Magus instead of either of the Bridges I drew, I would have won, hands down.
I can definitely see your argument. I guess the question that needs to to be answered is whether or not diversifying answers outweighs consistency or vice versa. I've been seeing success with a straight bg artifact heavy version, though I will admit the mirror gets a little worse. (Nod to thinkr) I will also build a white splash version with utility creatures in the board. I just wish we had a reliable way to search for them.
Hello everyone, it's been a while, but I'm back here. Looking to pick up the deck again, after trying different stuff for a while.
I've seen bunch of things changed like no more baubles or running leyelines main, what's the current starting point for customization?
Last night I tried 3 Nox instead of a playset of Leylines main. It's good but really gets hard to hold one in hand for the disruptive aspect, so I didn't like it nearly as much as I did in the Cheeri0s deck, for example. I did enjoy the room for a 3rd Surgical! Also tried 1-of Teeg & Magus in the board and didn't like those either.
Moving forward I'll go back to Leylines main and drop the effects on a stick for Spellskites. Pithing Needles and Crucible/Fair won me games postboard.
@averethel, There's still quite a bit of room for customization. artfranc007 still runs Baubles, and I've seen some other lists go 5-0 run Baubles. Some run Leylines main, lots of variation on number of Brutality to run, and so on. Right now the sideboard is being tweaked by quite a few people (including myself, trying new things). All depends on what you're going for.
I think he made a smart move by using non-artifact cards, the hate out there is really bad and having some answers that aren't shut down by stony or bounced with hurkyl is smart. All of those cards he chose were effective in one form or another, I think having a few non-artifacts that cost more than one cmc is something to look into.
Just my opinion,I'm still using baubles though so I might be behind the times.lol

Not everyone here uses Leylines (myself included, I use Revival). Some of us still use Bauble.
The hate is real right now, and Lantern is adapting to the meta. I think you make an excellent point.

I only listed things that were most relevant and obvious for me after giving it a moment of consideration. When I look at this list of cards, Gaddock seems slightly innefficient/suboptimal against decks/cards you listed. It stops Company&Cord, but so does cage for 1 instead of GW. It stops Storm's cards, but again, Cage does most of those things, doesn't die to Grapeshot. Against Tron, it's much worse than a Needle - it doesn't stop O-Stone, Ulamog, World Breaker, and things already in play, and Ugin gets boarded out around half the time. Against Scapeshift/Ttb decks it doesn't actually do anything because Valakut kills it. Against UW/UWR Control decks, it will die to some removal spell they left in their deck because they just don't have enough sideboard cards. Against Chalice, it has to come preemptively, and it usually won't because again, GW. Against EE, worse than Needle. Against artifact sweepers, it stops them, but it's not much different agaisnt those than Thoughtseize. It's pretty good against Ad Nauseam, but it's a very good matchup.
Just can't see any particular reason to run this guy. @The_Shady_Prophet, do you already run 4 Needles? If so, I would suggest running Phyrexian Revoker instead, as your mono-anti-tron card.
I don't really think you have to test that much to see if a card is good if you just imagine how will it play out in reality. Gaddock is not that hard to grasp because it will play like a preemptive needle being able to hit diferent, narrow set of cards.
I run 3 needles main, none side. I was running Revoker for a while since he could turn off mana abilities and Eggs was popular in my meta for a while, but beyond that didn't find him to be as good. So far Teeg has been fantastic for me. 99% of people I play against board out creature removal against me. I know one person who still keeps his paths in because he knows about Padeem, but that's about it. Landing Padeem and Teeg when the opponent has zero removal left in the board can be backbreaking.

With all this talk of running cards that can't be hit off of Ancient Stirrings it makes me wish Sensei's Divining Top were legal. Man could you imagine how much better our deck would be with Top?
Anyway that point is off topic.
To all the naysayers out there, Gaddock Teeg is amazing for our deck. It isn't too hard to cast since green is one of our main colours and we have plenty of 5 colour sources. I think some people don't realize how much we get WRECKED by some of the cards that Teeg stops. Case in point from @The_Shady_Prophet's post above:
If you haven't played with Teeg before, I can definitely understand how it's easy to think he's meh or not that great. But once you realize how much he messes up your opponent's, and what decks he is great against, Teeg is an all-star.
Also to add some more cards to the list @thnkr created for things stopped by Teeg....

You mean every deck running a one-mana card that turns off our lock? Sweet, crack out those pithing needles.

Top would instantly kill lantern, as would an unbanning of preordain or something better than serum visions getting printed.
I've also been finding teeg very disappointing, he's just an extra cage at best. Also Adrian kinda spoiled the creature plan, moat will no longer come as a surprise to anyone, I doubt they can effectively plan on it but the first time I get a moat fatal push'd I'm going to table flip.
I am debating Meddling Mage in his spot but concerned about the mana cost being too difficult, has anyone tried pikula yet?
I wouldn't say that Sullivan killed the creature plan. I mean is your opponent really going to keep in a card that is 90% of the time completely dead against you back of the possibility you might bring in 1-3 creatures and make it only 70-80% dead? No they're still going to take it out if they have better cards to bring in. The only times I can see people leaving in creature removal is when they don't have enough cards to bring in from the sideboard and just can't take them out.
Saying Adrian 'killed' the creature plan is like saying Elsik 'killed' the deck doing well the first time he did great with it at a GP. If you can only win with this deck when you 'gotcha' your opponent, maybe it isn't the deck's fault....

Ok so after some limited testing, I think Magus of the Moat is the real deal. I sided him in 3/4 matches tonight, and he took over a couple games all on his own. Resolving Moat against an Elves player holding Nature's Claim and Rec Sage in hand felt really good! I will be going up to 2x side and see how that goes.

In the open I caught one living end player I had one moat in play and another in the yard.
He had to kill the one in play or remove from game the one in the yard. Never did.

Can any1 list what is a must have in the side in general, or a what a standard sideboard should have + or - some spiciness. literally just bought most of the cards minus the sideboard, almost foiled out and i havent even played the deck b4 in paper. aside from a few games against a bot.
I come from playing eggs/ad nauseam/mill in paper, my meta is GR ponza, a bunch of death shadow dredge and affinity, tron/eldrazi tron, maybe some burn. And the occasional bogles and mirror lantern
Started magic in february of this year, still havent seem that many decks
still iffy /missing on sideboard, and i just like running mechabized production main, dunno if it good but i like alt win cons, or extra copies of any shredder needle etc

What do we think about Bontu's Last Reckoning? I feel like it has potential. It can turn around a losing clock and we almost don't care about the drawback, plus it can pretend to be a bridge against fair decks by wiping them and allowing you to just keep them off creatures for the rest of the game. I might be a little overhyped on it because my local meta has a lot of death's shadow, delver and other stuff that can get blown out by it, but I think it's worth experimenting with at least now that there's a wrath that fits our curve.
