Actually there is a card that i bring in for both Storm and Burn and it usually results in a scoop: Trinisphere. It's particularly important against storm as it's an auto loss for them if you land it on T2. Burn can try to play through but it's usually too difficult if they are perpetually stuck on 2 lands. That's the best way to beat them both.
My epic match against burn had my opponent play a T1 Goblin, T2 Goblin + Swiftspear and me play a T3 Trinisphere. He never drew a 3rd land, i managed to kill all 3 of his guys and faded him drawing a 3rd land for the kill to me stone raining him and getting a scoop. I was at 1 life. Was amazeballs.
In regards to Titan: 6 mana is a lot and it doesn't REALLY swing any matches that often. For that much mana, I do feel like something else can take it's place. Plus there will be some games where it just rots in your hand cuz you're stuck at 5. I think the sweet spot is 5 mana.
The thing about this nissa into P&K is that we want to be doing disruption with blood moon or LD T2 and T3 then playing our threat. Playing it backwards with threats then LD is not going to work consistently. That is the core to this archetype is the early mana denial.
I agree with this. One of the things that got me interested in this deck is the angle in which it attacks other modern decks. Land destruction or moon, then followed by a threat. When all the cards that I ordered from SCG arrive... my main strategy would be to fire one or two land destruction spells or a moon, then follow-up with a dragon or whatever strong creature I have on hand.
Well, you guys say this but seem to forget that in MTG we don’t get to pick our starting hand. Sometimes your Ponza shows up with no vegetables, which we mull. But also common are starting hands with great ramp and meat but no sauce. I mean, you’re not going to mull a hand with 3 lands, dork, tracker , stormbae and baloth.
Of COURSE I would love to turn 2 blood moon turn 3 acid moss turn 4 titan all day Everyday - but it’s been Long accepted that variance will often gut a deck that tries to force its curve- that’s why we play trackers and other such 3-4 drops, no?
And I did paint the sweet scenario of voice into pnk. However a voice at any point in the game where you have multiple dorks is also good. Pnk just generally does utility stuff, like I mentioned, it acts like a glue between the other cards.

Hey, guys, wanted to report that I went 4-0 last night playing Eldritch Ponza for the first time at Wednesday Night Modern. Deck was smooth as butter, and while the original list had 0 Stone Rains or LD spells, I forced a few in....and never wanted to cast them all night. It's a really weird version of the deck that capitalizes on Blood Moon's power and a set of silver bullets that can hose many decks very efficiently. Here's the link to the report that made me want to try the deck out myself:

Ok, fair enough. There are some decks in my meta that hands without land destruction are keepable.. for example.. a hand with Baloth + other threat + sprawl and enough lands against Burn. Anyway, I don't intend to debate this much because the deck is not even fully in my hands yet.. some parts are still in transit at the mail. We can talk about this topic again when I already have the deck and gained some experiences using with it.
Looks something like this. I made some changes and cut the titans since i feel like they are just too slow. Essentially, by the time i cast them, any other reasonable thread (that cost less) would win me the game.
I'm missing 1 SB card (doing this from memory) but it's unlikely to really matter here. Tracker/Hazoret are kind of at odds with each other though. But i think ultimately, having a creature that's very tough to kill and can also burn your opponent is pretty good. I've cut the birds from my list a long time ago and really don't miss them. That's one of the bigger difference with my list vs others.

Thank you and I haven’t played with Hazoret yet but I can see the nonbo already at least the way I was playing (hold lands in hand if I had over 5 mana in case of a topdeck tracker). It does seem like a decent number of people have jumped ship on Titan. I haven’t had that many games yet where he wasn’t effective, but I do understand the criticism. I personally don’t like birds either because it can’t get on the beat down plan at all and we aren’t playing any equipment or auras to make it relevant beyond the first couple of turns. At least Arbor Rlf gets in for 1. I wish the was a Noble Hierarch that could tap for Naya colors instead of Bant but can’t always get what you want.
Can somebody please outline why Garruk Wildspeaker is considered "bad"? In the early days while building the deck I used him as a budget placeholder for Chandra, and he always did good things, from creating crazy turns where you have enough mana to stormbreath+monstrous or giving a team of elves and birds overrun.
Just thought about him again since the topic of birds being bad topdecks was mentioned.

Thanks for the response, but it was not exactly helpful. He can win a game himself (9 power over 3 turns, compares well to huntmaster) and if he does the 'same thing' as one of the best cards in the deck (chandra) then my question still stands.

I think Garruk Wildspeaker is good and in certain builds (go wide tokens style) his ult ends the game. (And he ults the turn after he drops.)
Chandra is "better" for a couple reasons. Mainly her +1 that "draws" you a card or shocks your opponent provides inevitability that garruk lacks. Chandra can also minus to remove something. Although it takes longer to ult her, you just need to cast cards to win (unless they have a leyline or something) where garruk needs a board and to attack.

I agree with everything mentioned and I will add Garruk PH is also better than Wildspeaker. PH is better than Wildspeaker late game because PH +1 makes a 3/3 whereas Wildspeaker is -1 (for instance if you are across the table from a Tasigur or Angler PH can keep making dudes to chump until you can topdeck an answer whereas Wildspeaker can only do that for a couple of turns). That along with PH -3 to draw cards is the way to find a finisher to win the game if making 3/3s is too slow.
So for example, if I were to drop 1 huntmaster of the fells, and add 1 Garruk Wildspeaker, would my deck be weaker for it? I would never drop Chandra and I am not comparing 4-drops to 5-drops.
I think Garruk Primal Hunter is much stronger than Wildspeaker too - but Garruk PH competes with Stormbreath and Primal Command for a spot whereas the 4-drop slot is more flexible.

As i mentioned above, 5 mana is the sweet spot. I run 1 PH and am happy with that. I only run 2 SB anyways. Chandra, in my experience does s exactly what u want in this deck. It's a mistake not to play her imo.
Im playing a big prize modern event soon. I'll report my results.
@NoobKing Yeah I saw your list has only 1 6-drop if I'm not mistaken. I run 2 inferno titans and 1x Chandra, Flamecaller. I might reduce this to 1 of each and slot in Garruk, Primal Hunter instead, and focus on more 5 drops like yourself.
I still have yet to see an argument that convinces me Wildspeaker is a bad card for the deck though, and if I we're running a go-wide build I think I would put it back in. Compared to Chandra ToD and Garruk PH, yes, inferior. But compared to other flex 4 drops? Still not seeing the arguments. I must reiterate that I do not intend to drop any Chandras I bleed fire, Stormbae and Chandrabae 4 life!
Good luck for your event NoobKing!

Well I don’t think anyone is saying it is a bad card, just other cards are better.
So for starters let’s examine where Wildspeaker shines... making a bunch of mana. So if you have a 5 or 6 drop in hand then sure you could play it the following turn.
Here lies the problem, if you don’t have a payoff card, even Nissa VoZ makes a plant token as a plus so the chump supply will continue to be used until you can draw into something else. Garruk can only make 3 tokens before he dies.
Now let’s compare this to Huntmaster which you wanted to take out. Upon entry not only do you get 2 2/2s which is 1 more body than Garruk can on it’s first turn but it also gains you 2 life which can be relevant against plenty of decks (burn now needs an additional burn spell to try to close out the game, valakut which prefers the opponent to be at 18, aggro in general, and storm needs 2 more spells not to fizzle out with grape shot to name a few). Now since we blow up the opponents lands it is possible that they can’t cast a spell so Huntmaster would flip and thus you potentially removed a creature and did at the very least 2 damage to your opponent along with now having a 4/4 and a 2/2.
P&K also has similar merits to Huntmaster but Huntmaster is better than P&K (I broke this down comparing the 2 a couple of pages back). Both make more tokens upon entry than Garruk and P&K can do direct damage to the opponent just like Huntmaster. Being the format lacks flyers it is a good chance you can at least 2 damage a turn as well.
In a go wide strategy he is pretty good as the mana gained can go into mana sinks for token makers and stuff like that. Also that would make the overrun much better.
If his +1 and -1 abilities were switched then it would be a different discussion. It would have been too good actually because you would naturally makes tokens until you wanted to overrun.
Here's my report for the 5 round big prize modern.
R1 vs uw gideon control
Lose die roll
G1: had t2 moon but it was countered. I managed to resolve a few spells but eventually too many cryptics and gideons took over the game.
G2: t3 thragtusk into t4 path and i land choke. Opp had 3 tapped blue sources. Gg.
G3: we both mull to 4 and i keep a hand of land, land, sprawl and command. Top card is hazoret. T3 hazoret (drew land) into the red zone. He's down to 9, taps outto cast detention sphere, i draw second hazoret, put him down to 4. Next turn i draw (command and tracker) try to attack, remember that i have 2 cards, punt but luckily, 6 mana. Discard both cards for the win.
1-0.
R2 vs burn
Lose die roll
G1: no acceleration but 4 lands, blood moon, tracker, stone rain. Its a decent hand to keep blind. T1 Goblin guide and i knew i was toast. I did manage to make it a game but double skull cracks while wurm was in play was too much.
G2: Good exchange of ressources but wurm tokens, hazoret (discarding cards) and a beast get there when I'm at 2.
G3: mull to five, keep a decent hand. Utopia sprawl on forest, which gets revelried. Being attacked by 2 goblin guides who are giving me lands (which i needed). I stone rain him and acid moss his only 2 lands, drop thragtusk to go bavk to 7, followed by a command to get wurm and gain 7. Play wurm then hazoret swing for lethal. Never saw a sinlge trinisphere. Would def have swung g2 if i had.
2-0 (hazoret is for real)
R3 vs gr tron
Win die roll
G1: Timely land d after a t3 chandra (which leads to an ultimate) takes g1.
G2: t2 blood moon into t3 chandra into t4 tracker plus hazoret seals the deal quickly.
Notes: gr tron us the toughest of the trons because you cant prevent them from having access to green mana. So the plan here is just to slow them down long enough to kill them before they reach 6 mana.
3-0
R4 vs affinity
Win die roll
G1: affinity does affinity stuff. I die.
G2: bring in: 3 ancient grudge, 3 anger of the gods, 1 beast within, 1 creeping corrosion.
I see only one ancient grudge and 1 beast within. Not enough. I die.
Note: on t3 i debated fetching eot for a land. I did. Top card was creeping corrosion. Sigh. Affinity is the worst matchup and it's not even close.
3-1
R5 vs gr tron
Win die roll
G1: i had the nuts. T2 moon into land d land, hazoret, stormbreath.
G2: my opp states how incredibly lucky he needs to get to win. Guess what? That's exactly what happens. Multiple mulligans, no land d orblood moons. I don't get there.
G3: mukl to five on the play again. I then make a dumb mistake. I have a 1/1 and a 3/3 in play plus a blood moon. I draw chandra. Attack him down to 8. Then i tank. I can play chandra and draw one of the following: abrade, moon, ancient grudge, stone rain. My opp played an o stone and he has enough mana to activate it. It'll take his whole turn to do it.
I should have just held it. He has to blow it anyways on his turn and i can chance winning if i keep it. Instead i get greedy and play it, flip a land and basically lost. I drew land and double utopia sprawl while he ulamogged and world breaker. I didnt give myself the best chances to win.
I drew zero land d in that second game. Was brutal.
Anyways, hazoret is amazing and i would increase him to 3.
Affinity still sucks. I think i might have to run some sweepers main going forward.
