So I've bought 8-Whack on MTGO and did two leagues (both 2-3). Will probably buy into green splash for Atarka's Command soon. I might be out of practice playing such an aggressive deck (been playing BGx lately) but I wrote an article about current state of goblins in Modern including a report from both leagues. Now I've read the article and I would say you really have to test out the Atarka Gobots Version.
I've seen some Bushwhacker-Zoo-Decks around in several tournament in the last weeks and they always got taken down by Lightning Helix, Fatal Push, PtE and Stuff where Atarka Gobots do not care so much about.
Atarka Gobots go wider and faster, playing a bnch of CMC0-Creatures, Kuldotha Rebirth and Legion Loyalist to push through Lingering Souls // Timely Reinforcements - It plays like a Combodeck with a way of playing the "fair" game and fighting your opponent with creatures till he is dead.

Thanks for the read buddy. I think going wide is great against decks like Death's Shadow and Eldrazi, but speed is also crucial vs. combo and big mana decks (Eldrazi, Tron, ET), so I believe we have to find something in-between. I feel like Mogg War Marshal is a decent card nowdays, and haste from both Bushwhackers might be even more important than Atarka's Command. However, I really dislike that Reckless Bushwhacker can force you to play clunky, for example holding a card in case you draw Surgewhacker, or failing to find anything to procc surge off the top of the deck. I also hate it when Goblin Grenade is the only spell in my hand that can trigger surge, meaning I lose a body even before the combat. I may be bias here but I find Reckless Bushwhacker underwhelming on occasions, while it does lead to some awesome plays and wins the game by itself.
As far as sideboard goes, I would look to pack anti-lifegain, grave and land hate with the usual artifact hate as well. One time effects like Skullcrack and Atarka's Command are decent since they add damage as well. I was reading some old articles about sligh and wakefield decks and something interesting caught my eye: add mutavaults and higher costed cards from the side to combat value decks, for example Rabblemaster or even Siege Gang. We lose on speed but can go wider and be more resilient against the likes of Death's Shadow, BGx and control decks (if or when our aggro start fails), especially on the draw. It might be a bad idea, but it's something we can toy with at least.
I wish I could create cards out of thin air hahah.. but well, something like Harsh Mentor or Eidolon of the Great Revel would be good if they would be goblins; so some useful 2drop that is capable of dealing some damage. Or even better, another wannabe Goblin Guide, a 2 power hasty creature for one mana with a drawback (it can be 2/1, doesn't matter). Truth to be told, I would much prefer to play something similar to Legacy goblins but in order to do that, too many reprint or similar but new cards are needed and it's hard to imagine that will happen.
I tried kuldotha goblins a while ago and had fun but felt that the deck is very all-in. But to think about it, so are "regular" goblins. I might give it a go again.
Hellakevin is playing boros atm and he said Boros Charm and Thalia, path from the side helps him. Will try that as well.
Gobots is definetly a fast version. A lot of testing has gone in it, which has shored up two of its major weaknesses - jank and consistency. Kevin and Walker have done well with Gruul. I've done well with Mono Red. And then there is traditional goblins. I find it too slow to be competitive in modern; however, I posted a list a while back ago that makes use of a traditional shell and the speed of Gobots found here. It requires work, which makes most people cry and rage quit after their first loss, but I think it can bring traditional goblins up to par with Gobots. Note, I would have tested this version already, buuut I'm not in a wifi friendly place. Until I am all I can do is speculate.
Yeah I've gotta say that my version of Gobots (which is very close to Midn8walker's list) is very good and has nice sideboard options in Gruul. My friend plays Skred Red with 4 MB Anger's and I'll still win 2/3'sof the time. Ever since I got completely and easily locked out of mono red goblins by Prison Control and outpaced by Eldrazi I've put the traditional lists down.
I also have this brew list for what I call Death Whack that I mean to try out but life has been too busy these days for any play thus far. Any honest feedback is always appreciated, the list is still rough.

Wow, now that is a in depth write up. Great job! I knew of Kevin's build, but not of Pietro's or Adronus. Kevin's gobs race as fast as it can with a strong burn shell to finish the job. Adronus is some what typical, but Pietro's is just different. lol These are definetly not my type of builds but I can respect their different paths. Which one are you going to pilot Treach? And, what changes or directions are you going to take it?
For the colors I wanted to shift your perspective on black a bit. Yes it can disrupt, but it now has three offensive cards that come to my mind: Spike Jester, Death Shadow, and Foul-Tounge Shriek. My spelling might be off and since I'm on my phone I have trouble linking these cards. But, I feel they can justify a competitive Rakdos build.
White on the other hand? I might lack the knowlage, but I just cannot see a white splash. :/
What color are you going to pick up?
And, since you stated you lack the time I challenge you to pick up MTGO. I hate it's GUI or simply it's unfriendly interface, but goblins is an easy deck to pick up and it's even easier to cram a LOT of games in a hour.

Spike Jester was and still is a card I like, but sometimes its underwhelming when facing spot removal. However, I see the appeal in it and will give it a go in the near future (I have some positive and negative experience with it in the era of Twin). I am keen on trying Death's Shadow in a Goblin shell as well, but it has low priority for me. Foul-Tounge Shriek seems like a good card but I feel like it's a trap. First of all, if splashing black we probably include Spike Jester and it depends on what we take out from the deck, but having 4 Jester, 3 Piledrivers and 4 Mogg war Marshals clogs the mana curve. Piledriver and Spike Jester work relatively well together, and if you shave on War Marshals you lose the width that plays well with Foul-Tounge. I would try cutting Piledrivers in that scenario. I kinda think it's a win-more while also doing nothing on the empty board when looking for that last few points of damage. Also, what would you change Foul-Tounge for? You can't really lower the number of creatures, but at the same time Bolt and Grenade are much better all-around. In comparison, both Boros Charm and Atarka's Command are guaranteed 3+ dmg.
As far as my plan goes, I'll probably give Naya a spin, including Atarka's Command and Boros Charm and going the "burn" way. I also ordered Kari Zev's Expertise and will give it a try in my local meta that has quite a lot of Eldrazi Tron and BGx decks. After I try Naya and/or Boros, I'll go with black splash, but I feel like it doesn't offer enough on its own so I might play Jund or Mardu.

As for the spike jester and space question I start with the focus of the deck. I want speed and "going wide" as my two choices. So, this eliminates Piledriver automatically. This leaves me warmarshall, but I want more speed so I would rather cut him for Chieftain. This maxes me out at four two costing cards plus: Chieftain, Reckless, Bushwhacker, and Jester. The "going wide" is a natural byproduct of the remai game deck as its comprised of a lot of one costing cards.
I think foul toung shriek and a few other not so common spice cards can close more games than imagined. A lot of the time the opponent can clog the board once you get them down to ten life or less unless they are playing two for ones or board wipe. This allows FTS to close as we can continue to add creatures for one last attack during the stall. But typically to continue to add to the board you typically lack other supporting reach cards. This is where value choices on deck design come into play. >.<
I don't have it yet but I would probably play a 3/3 split of Atarka's Command and Boros Charm, cutting on cards like Piledriver (down to 0-1), Mogg Fanatic (2-3) and Mogg War Marshal (3). Of course the deck would cut all Reckless Bushwhackers as well, and if there is space I would start with 4/4 of Charm and Command, just to give it a go and see how it plays out.
Alrighty boys, Here with a solid 4-0 report for me local MNM, ill give a rundown on what happened from as best i can remember, Im also playing just a straight mono red version with basic mountains and thats it.
R1: U/W Control 2-0
G1/G2: I played a Few threats like a war marshall and a pile driver, and put enough pressure on board that he had to wrath, and i had more fuel in my hand because i saw the wrath coming from a mile away, both games played out this way, applied pressure with a few creatures and forced a suboptimal wrath.
-1 Fanatic -1 Denizen -1 Bad Creature +2 Chieftain +1 Piledriver
R2:Affinity 2-1
G1: He drew fairly decent for affinity, i had the fanatic for the t1 lifelinker but he followed it up with ravager, thopter, lord, lord. it was very lop sided.
G2: He did that affinity thing where they draw everything but creatures i.e. springleaf drum, mox, plating... and i played a bunch of stuff with a piledriver and got there t4 or t5.
G3: This was an insanely close game. I think at one point he had Ravager, Springleaf, Mox, Thopter, 2x Inkmoth, Spire, Dove in with a 5/5 Inkmoth put me to 5 poison, I played some dude attacked for a few damage maybe 2 or 3, held up the Smash in my hand( i also had bolt in hand), He fired up the 1/1 inkmoth to try and dodge the Smash, so i bolt the 1/1, and next turn he goes in for the kill with the 5/5 I smash it and my next turn i double bushwhacker to take him down, I wanna say there was a few turns of me not doing much but i ended the game at 9 poison.
SB: -4 Goblin Granade -2 Denizen -1 Other thing +4 Smash to smithereens +2 forked bolt +1 Mogg Fanatic
R3: Lantern Control 2-0
G1: Im gonna be honest i dont remember much, he didnt hit bridge and he had leyline up t0 and i had a grenade in hand, but i just 1/1ed him to death.
G2: He landed T3 Bridge but he still had 3 in hand so i was able to slip 5 dmg under with guide and Whacker,t4 he played leyline, but i had already burned my bolt preemptively, And i had smash in hand, T4 i smashed the bridge, bushwhackered and took him to town.
SB: -4 Goblin Grenade -2 Lightning Bolt +4 Smash to smithereens +1 Piledriver +1 Cheiftain(although in retrospect this was probably a terrible card to bring in vs a bridge deck)
R4: Grixis Death's Shadow
G1: I did goblin things, went to fast for him, he was trying to preserve his lifetotal and i just easily outdamaged him, he had like 2 or 3 removal, and i finished him off with a Grenade
G2: I mulled to 5. He had Inquisition, TS, Liliana of the last hope(T3), and 2x Shadow. I had a goblin bushwhacker.
G3: I dont mull to 5 (WooHoo!) He drains his life with 3 fetch->shocks while im dealing some dmg to him. He drops T2 2xDS, and this Push>snap>pushes me at 2 life to clear my board and i just bolt him(immediatly after a face Grenade to drop him from 7)
I Dont think any of these matches was disadvantages except maybe DS on a pretty exceptional draw and spell sequence. I have come to truly enjoy this deck and if people ignore it i think it will do incredible in the hands of a good pilot. The mono red is AWESOME right now, because there are a lot of decks spending time a resources attacking mana bases, and im over here just durdling around in mountains giggling whenever my opponent plays Tec Edge or Ghost Quarter. I think over all its a well places, well priced, aggressive deck that takes on a very different angle than burn.

just one of the base decks from the primer. my buddy had it put together and i was ecstatic to play it. Aggro/Combo has been my forte in magic since i started, mostly elves, but occasionally goblins.
I would have to say that despite all popular belief sometimes playing Goblin Guide T1 is not the correct play. Sometimes you just need a haste dude late in the game. it worked out for me a few times last night. Also in many cases decks like these tend to overextend. and in some matches its totally acceptable to do so such as Lantern, There isnt much they can do.

I would like to add, that you could trigger FSD twice on T2 (Guide + other 1-drop) and therefore get in for one more damage. Every point of damage counts.

One of the red rares is a Goblin Pirate I believe. Goblins FINALLY freaking return. Pretty underwhelming in BFZ block and none in Shadows, Kaladesh OR Amonkhet. Not sure there has been a year and a half gap for Goblins before has there?

I know, but it was just someone looking at it like we are. If you actually look at the card it looks a lot more like a "2" than a "3". The comments on that page are all basically people saying it's a 2 and that it isn't a goblin.
