So I Recently got back in to Hatebears after not playing for about a year and i think this list could be strong in the current meta. Let me know what you guys think and any suggestions you might have. Looking to run this list Sunday at an IQ.
What are good cards to use against elves and other wide fast decks? Affinity also gives my deck trouble!
Engineered Explosives is good vs Affinity, Elves, Merfolk, Bogles, and other random aggro decks. Affinity is not a good matchup, you need to use your Ghost Quarter on their Nexi, Path the dudes you can't handle (Dromoka's Command works here too), surprise their fliers with Mindcensor, Gryff and even Stirring Wildwood. And obv, Stony Silence is really, really good.
Hatebears is a metagame deck, you can tune it to face anything... It's always a good option, but a fair one (it's just a bunch of bears)
I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

NEW AND IMPROVED GUIDE TO HATEBEARS I have been playing this since Craig Wescoe posted this list (even though he slightly changed it). He is the master, and I do like the list quite a bit. The sideboard guide helps a lot for someone like me who hasn't played this deck in a year or so.
He admits that the list in his article is super soft on merfolk/elf hate. I would suggest Engineered explosives and Gaddock Teeg for elves as well as Linvala, Keeper of Silence. For Affinity, maindeck Qasali Pridemage in high numbers seem great. Wescoe feels that Kataki is unplayable (in the comments section of the article). Blade Splicer and Flickerwisp are good maindeck choices against Affinity too. Splicer blocks everything, most importantly etched champion, and Flickerwisp can reset counters from a ravager, remove a plating from an attacker as well as block all their fliers.

I really love the idea of this deck. I mean Loxodon Smite is one of my favorite cards ever. However this deck doesn't seem to be doing anything as of late and I'm curious as to why.
It is not a popular deck and it won't be. It's a fair deck that just drops bears and wants to interact with your opponent's card, that's why it's called hatebears and not aggrobears . It doesn't have as much 'oops I win' hands as other decks, even other fair decks like classic Jund/Abzan can go Thoughtseize into Tarmogoyf into Liliana and wreck a bad matchup. The cards are weaker in a vacuum. This is a very Legacy-esque deck, in the way you can't just pick it and hope to crush a tournament. It rewards deep knowledge of the metagame and how to interact with it.
Take Wescoe as an example, the guys love to play WW and had good tournament results with Hatebears, and you have some players doing well in SCG opens and somebody in this very thread had success in MOL a lot with it (I don't recall your name, sorry mate).
It's a very rewarding deck, and you can outplay people not knowing your cards/interaction. If you are into the Aggro-Disruption kind of deck, this is for you. I'd rather jam some control or combo deck, but I enjoy this archetype too.
I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

Hey guys, been lurking here for a bit.
I'll be moving to a more prominent MTG scene in a couple weeks so I don't have a meta as of yet.
This list is simply generated with the prominent lists in mind. (Jund, Affinity, Tokens was big in my area)
In terms of making room for 2x Eternal Witness, I think you could cut a few Dryad Militant, or at least put them in your SB. They're pretty dead against affinity and tokens, though they're good against your Jund matchup - but so are your 3 Mirran Crusader, so I think you have room to put militants in your SB.
Same is true for an Aven Mindcensor, if you really want one in your 75, I think you can keep it in the board.
In terms of your SB plan, is there a particular deck that you're facing regularly where you need 4x Leyline of Sanctity? I've found some mix of Rest in Peace and Burrenton Forge-Tender to be really important in my SB these days.
Leyline of Sanctity is like a white Blood Moon, it can 'win' a good number of matchups on its own (Burn, Titanshift, Storm, Ad Nauseam), and give some trouble to others, but I don't think you really need it in Hatebears.
I wouldn't run Scavenging Ooze in the board. It's a good and flexible card, maindeckable. If you want GY hate, use Rest in Peace
Also, why Spellskite?
these are my suggestions:
-3 Dryad Militant
+1 Scavenging Ooze
+1 Thalia
+1 Horizon Canopy

I'd agree with the board options. I didn't look too much into it before I posted but I realize BFT with Mirran is a must.
The reasoning behind Dryad Militant was a way to increase one drop options that still maximize their benefit from Wilt-leaf. In hindsight that was bad logic.
Moving Friday lol. I hope to find a decent LGS this weekend and could hopefully give some updates.
@CosmoKramer Thanks for the suggestions. Honestly the only one I can't do at the moment is Horizon Canopy.
Tried it. Ran 3. Might go down to 2.sucks drawing another when you already have 1 on the board. I run 2 Azusa as well. Does make for some fun shenanigans lol. I kind of want to try and add 2 hornet nest in sideboard against etron and creature deck. Or even death shadow. Using vial to bring a hornet nest mid combat against a big 7/7 desth shadow. That's big lol. All sorts of mid combat tricks
@Manturras: I haven't tried Kessig, and late-game I find that Gavony Township adds enough pressure. I haven't really considered Lotus Cobra, I'm not sure if it would force us to commit too much to the board? Maybe it would work.
Wouldn't Mirran Crusader put on enough pressure? It also has the benefit of only dying to Path and Bolt while laughing at powerhouses like Tarmogoyf
Abuse those Exalted triggers!
I played this deck vigorously during most of 2014, but I`ve been off it since then.
I have a quick question, why isn`t Thalia, Heretic Cathar widely played in this archetype? She looks just right. Doesn´t her hate effect hit wide enough in the meta, or does she come down too late to matter? Or does she simply fail the Bolt test too hard? Thanks for any and all help.

Hi! I think you hit the nail on the head - she comes down a bit too late to matter. As is, she's a 3 drop creature that does not affect the board immediately, and that is a tough sell. I actually play a few in my sideboard depending on the matchup, but I think she's just note quite good enough for mainboard.
Just coming back to this deck after a long time away, have to rebuild from the ground up. Has anyone tried do hate through high power creatures? Thinking something like Solemnity along with Phyrexian Soulgorger and Sheltering Ancient along with CoCo. That or add in black for cards like Tidehollow Sculler.

Linvala, Keeper of Silence is great to contain the Elves decks and to a lesser extent some of Affinity like Arcbound Ravager and Steel Overseer. Use your Ghost Quarter on the Inkmoth nexus like Cosmo mentioned; additionally Qasali Pridemage to take out the Cranial Plating Steel Overseer (and Nexus in a pinch). Both of these matchups (like most swarm decks) will require some careful use of your Path to Exile and creative use of your Aven Mindcensor and or Hushwing Gryff as surprive "removal" when warranted.
