So I've been playing the deck online and I'm a huge fan of 4x Kitchen Finks. It wrecks Burn and is very good against Grixis Twin, Jund, and Grixis Control.
I like this card a lot.
If you're gonna play 4x, you should play 1x Anafenza Kin Tree Spirit. It does work.
A card I've been looking at is Return to the Ranks. It finds Thalia, Arbiter, Pridemage, Scooze, Voice, Spellskite, and Hierarch. That's a lot of recursion potential.

The big issue I have with return to the ranks is that while it does indeed have many targets in our deck most of those are relatively low impact and I cant see the card being all that useful. By the time your cast return for any significant amount of creatures I see two things being true in most cases:
1: Its been a grindy matchup which put those creatures in the grave in the first place.
2: The creatures will the vast majority of the time not affect the board state terribly much. The 2/2's do not match well late game versus Goyf's, Anglers, Tasigur, Rhinos, Olivia, Huntsmaster, and other threats that control and grindy mid-range decks tend to play. Best scenarios I see are finding some exalted triggers and being able to go on the offensive or casting it for three against affinity and getting a pridemage back..
The other problem I have (And the one that puts the nail in the coffin for me) is that I quite often use those creatures as fuel for my Scooze allowing me to make it into a credible threat. If your banking on reanimating those guys later scooze becomes a less attractive option and I would much rather be proactive in his use since that card takes over games.
Pretty much in any case I could see myself wanting to cast it I would much rather have Collected Company as I can get smiters, Finks, ect.. from that which are the big beaters for us.

These are all excellent points I hadn't thought of. Thanks
Has any testing been done with Heartwood Storyteller? Given the creature density of this deck, it appears it will at the least, be able to replace itself.
It really depends on what deck you're up against. Normally it only sticks around for one spell, usually Lightning Bolt/Path to Exile, before it dies. Or it just gets beaten down by beefier creatures.

I tested him in the past as a one-of in the sideboard. He was nice with vials and Wiltleaf Lieges. I don't think anyone would look at you funny for running it lol.
Just curious, but how much difference is birds from noble? My friend want to make Hatebears but does not want to spend the money on nobles.
It's fairly common to substitute Birds of Paradise for Noble hierarch for budget reasons and functionally the deck will run fine. However Noble has the price it does for a very good reason and the exalted triggers can often make the difference between winning and losing games due to being able to push through damage and not being a terrible topdeck late in the game.
I would recommend your friend to build the deck with birds if he likes it and plan to upgrade to nobles as he is able.
While I think she'll be pretty strong and probably Modern playable I'm not sure she's the planeswalker I would sleeve up in Hatebears. I have no real reasoning as to why she'd be bad, per se - just seems underwhelming considering what other options we can / have to to play.
Have people looked at Great Sable Stag in the board? It seems like it could be useful against Grixis Twin or UB Faeries. It's possible that Witchstalker is just better though.
Also, what are people's thoughts on Avacyn's Pilgrim vs Birds of Paradise? The only time it's been an issue that it can't tap for green while playtesting has been with Scavenging Ooze, but I really like that he trades with X/1s lategame.
Witchstalker is better since bolt is a thing and he taxes the instant speed gameplay plan, so it's good against grixis and twin, and maybe some other fringe stuff (like fae). Fae isn't on my priority list, but I see him being better there too since they want to play on our turn.
If you mean Pilgrim over Birds after 4 Nobles, I like birds because it can do damage over the top with exalted support when things are grinding down. My main argument though would be 2 colors are better than 1. That inability to hit green could mean the difference sometimes, same can be said for white. I would eventually trade him for birds if I wanted to go the mana dork route. The Scooze thing is reason enough.
I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

Lately I've been seeing a rise in Affinity, Twin, Soul Sisters, and Hatebears at my local shop and a decrease in the grave oriented decks. This is the list I'm going to try next week to try and be prepared for this meta shift.

I'm not a fan of Vial so my opinion may be biased, but is 2 copies correct? It's good in turn 1, and a bad topdeck... If you play fewer copies, the chance of getting it in your opening decreases (0.4 vs 0.22).
Also, can we see what your sideboard looks like? Maybe some Engineered Explosives, Ulvenwald Tracker and Choke to fight those matchups.
And I dislike the singleton Dryad Arbor... Vialing it happens in 2.5 out of 100 games (if you play 2 vials), and the interaction with Collected Company doesn't matter since you are going to get at least 2 dudes with it 82% of times (not counting birds, 90% if you do), so you can say that CC 'always' delivers in Hatebears. I think that Dryad Arbor does more harm than good here.

Normally the Dryad Arbor is a Forest, just switched it out last FNM to see how it performed (wasn't anything special). As for Aether Vial as a 2 of, I only have 2 copies so I thought a 2-2 split of Vial and Company would be the best option. Honestly I'm really liking it better than a full set of Company or Vial. Another deck that has started showing up again is Scapeshift. Sidedeck I've got what I ran last week and what I'm going to run next time.
