First post here, so I hope I'm putting this in the right area with the correct tag.
Anyway, I'm trying to get into Modern and really want to make this Gideon deck work; splashing in Black for more removal and so Sorin can join in to amass some troops as well.
Fetch lands - yay or nay with this?
Bitterblossom or Lingering Souls?
Too much board wipe? Not enough? More spot removal.
Any chance or way to make this at least semi-competitive?
Your deck doesn't have anti-search that hits you, so IMO, 4 on-colour fetchlands are always correct. I'd cut basics and maybe a manland for them.
I'd go with 4 Lingering Souls before the first Bitterblossom. As much as late Bitterblossom sucks, Lingering Souls' 2 or 4 immediate tokens and relative lack of pain make it so much better overall. I remember asking for Bitterblossom's unban after Souls had been out for some time, already finding that Bitterblossom compared unfavourably with Souls, so it may as well get unbanned.
My gut feeling is that 5 board wipes are 1 too many, but then again, I'm the kind of guy who keeps getting a 1-of Eternal Witness with only fetchlands in the yard, who finds that the 1-of Lightning Axe in UR Phoenix has no opposing targets, and who's often stuck playing a 3-of Reflector Mage when there's nothing to bounce.
Your deck already resembles some semi-competitive lists I've seen in MTGO results, so best of luck!
Try using 2 Oath of Kaya, it also acts as sort of Lightning Helix and that it punishes players for attacking Gideon, with small Gideon and big Gideon in play, you could have a soft lock on the opponent.

Looking forward to hearing all the input, thanks!

I'm making a proxy of it today to see how it feels, so I'll post the results here.
