Hey Guys,
Another long update from me... I'm getting some pretty good results now, the list is getting better - and the streams have been great fun! Think it's time for me to look at fancy add-ons and maybe a webcam!
Since the last run, I've tried a couple of new cards and adjusted the sideboard some more. I'm going to just leave a link to the list, since I'll keep that updated and you can see what i'm testing at any given time. https://deckstats.net/decks/86739/1173545-value-kiki-pod
Some more discussion on cards:
1. Glen Elendra + Rhythm of the Wild is a sick combo, but I don't currently run Elendra in the 75. I want to find space, but just haven't yet. I'm on 7x 4 drops, and feel like that's plenty in the main.
2. I'm making a concious effort to reduce the curve and have sticky creatures. This makes my chord of calling much more consistent.
3. Thalia, Guardian of Thraben has been really good maindeck, and I'm thinking of upping it to 2 copies.
4. Qasali Pridemage/Knight of Autumn are both pretty medium, but I want access to the effect, and putting them in the SB gives me less flexibility in the board.
5. Spellskite got cut. I like the card a lot, but some of the MUs where you want that effect (against removal) they can just ignore it, since it doesn't attack. It then just gets sweeped away by terminus or edict-ed by Liliana. It also grows opponents Goyfs. You don't particularly want it in a race. It basically becomes a card you want against Infect, but is below average everywhere else.
6. Fiery Justice is up in the air still. When you have 3 path to board in, bringing in 2 more pieces of removal actually stretches what you can board out. It's also not particularly impressive vs Spirits, and hard to resolve against Deaths Shadow. But, matches like Affinity & Elves this is a breaker.
7. 2nd Township has been pretty good.
8. I'd like a single Horizon Canopy over the 3rd Grove, if I could pick em up.
9. Burn is a tougher match-up than it looks on paper, and so I've added Burrenton Forge Tender (since it's also good vs Anger of the Gods.dec). Unsure if it's good enough just yet, and Lone Missionary is a consideration.
I'm pretty happy with about 68 of my 75 cards, and results have picked up. Long may it continue!
I am building a Vannifar build based on the Saheeli + Felidar CopyCat, I've tried more midrange options during the weekend with Voice of resurgence, Phantasmal Image, etc but in the end it felt like I rarely had a chance to win with a fair plan so I decided to go for a more straightforward approach:
I love the crazy amount of synergies built in the deck and that it can goldfish as early as T2, I've also counted 4 different ways to get a T3 kill (two of them through Vannifar activations). One nice interaction I got to enjoy yesterday vs Humans is Scryb Ranger + Izzet Staticaster
The deck is fun to play and it's packed with a lot of power, I find myself planning my turns for some time before executing them to ensure I don't screw up but with some practice that should improve
I decided to put Glen Elendra Archmage in the sideboard as another card vs control but I have thought about Spell Queller as another option, in the end we are running so many dorks that 4 mana shouldn't be a problem and I'd rather have 2 hardcounters than 1 softcounter even if it costs more mana
@Depian Your list looksa bit similar to mine, with some more value pieces added. I wasn't impressed by the combination though, but I'm glad to see, someone is still trying and I'm curious how the deck will perform to you.

"Aut vincere aut mori"
IMO, we're good enough to Top 32 a MTGO Modern Challenge, so go us this Sunday!
I'm still a fan of the smaller 1-drop-into-combo package of Renegade Rallier, 1 "Exarch", and a Restoration Angel (and a Phantasmal Image in case of opposing maindeck graveyard hate, a 1-drop, and a 2-drop). While this RUG package can turn a 1-drop into the entire combo, man does it take up a LOT of slots:
Turn 1-drop into Scryb Ranger, bounce a Forest, untap Vannifar
Turn Scryb Ranger into Bounding Krasis, untap Vannifar
Turn Bounding Krasis into Breaching Hippocamp, untap Vannifar
Turn Breaching Hippocamp into Zealous Conscripts, untap Vannifar
Turn Zealous Conscripts into Woodland Bellower, tutor for Bounding Krasis, untap Vannifar
Turn Krasis into Breaching Hippocamp, untap Vannifar
Turn Hippocamp into Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, copy Woodland Bellower, tutor for Krasis, combo off
I guess this chain also lets you turn an arbitrary 2-drop, 3-drop, 4-drop, and 5-drop into the combo for free while dodging opposing graveyard hate...
I don't quite know what Zealous Conscripts is doing in the No Black list: I don't think turning Glen Elendra Archmage into the combo is a good idea, as GEA is pretty good at protecting the combo (and it's your best maindeck anti-Terminus creature).
I'm still not a fan of no combo protection creatures maindeck, though: the best way to force double-Bolt holders to respect Vannifar is to make her tutor for combo protection the turn she untaps. That'll prevent them from reserving their Bolts to hit only Kiki-Jiki (them Bolting Scryb Ranger mid-chain similarly hurts).
As for my list, I still think Torch Courier should be played instead of Rhythm of the Wild, at least as a 1-of; while Torch Courier dies to removal, because it's a creature, you can tutor for it and tap it for Chord of Calling. Yes, I've had games where those lines won me the game. Being something that sacrifices itself also helps my own Renegade Rallier, and being able to target arbitrary creatures helps against opposing Phantasmal Image copying hate bears. Shame it gets hosed by opposing Spellskite, though.
I think I said this way earlier in the thread but if you do the ranger of eos/1-drop package I think torch courier is nice. Rhythm makes it less important for the haste part. I’d wonder if just having 2 teardrop Kami would be better. Or even a protection creature like Dauntless Bodyguard.
As far as the GA-conscripts thing, it’s almost certainly matchup dependent.

I think Torch Courier is an option even if you ditch Ranger of Eos--the Turn 3 combo possibility and the increased ability to suddenly combo off is quite good. (I'm considering booting Restoration Gearsmith the most, as the Ranger of Eos line has finally won me about 2 games.)
I think 1 Teardrop Kami is plenty if you go that route...except Teardrop Kami won't let you combo off from only a Forest fetch into Dryad Arbor.
Due to this deck being pretty slot-hungry (my no-Gearsmith plan involves a 2nd Resto and a 2nd "Exarch"), I don't think adding more Ranger of Eos targets is worth it.
I've used Deputy of Detention as Vannifar fodder a few times (generally when it booted something like Cranial Plating). I doubt any match-up has little enough opposing instant-speed disruption to justify turning Glen Elendra Archmage into the entire combo in a similar fashion.
Ok another write-up from me:
I recently dropped my 23rd land and added the 4th chord without any mana troubles. I also added Deputy of Detention which has certainly been worth a slot.
I added Burrenton-Forge Tender and Lone Missionary to my sideboard, and that seems to have fixed the burn match-up.
However, I have a few things I'm not confident with. First, the Deaths Shadow MU seems pretty rough. Second, Tron felt kinda grim without Damping Sphere, so those are going back in. I left the deck at something like this: http://deck.tk/3pWd5QEG
There's a few things I want to think about, have a read because I share my thoughts on card selection and also ask for some help!
1. Do I beat tron consistently enough with Damping Sphere + Riders in the SB? Need to test more, and potentially there's a slot to play with to fix that.
2. Can I fix the Deaths Shadow match with the sideboard? Worship is an option, as is Fiery Justice or Chameleon Colossus. Any thoughts?
3. Do I beat decks like Jeskai Control without the trackers? If so, can I cut those and add better cards for the Bx match-up, which is usually a bit tougher.
4. Is Glen Elendra that good? It rarely lines up with Rhythm of the Wild, plus you almost always want double-blue when you cast it, making it quite rough on the manabase.
5. Is Rhythm of the Wild that good? The answer is actually yes, it's great. It helps in a race and it helps grind. The times where it's bad are against BGx and some of the faster decks where you're not really trying to combo (e.g. Against Burn, it sounds great to have unlimited finks, but actually you don't have time to take a turn off to play it, and you don't have the manabase to play it pain-free). The other issue, which is a much bigger issue, is that it's taking up slots which could be given to creatures. The deck wants creatures all the time, I'm now playing Thalia which taxes Rhythm. In addition, I really wanted to try and blank Stubborn Denial vs DS and this card makes that much much harder to achieve.
6. How do I change the manabase to better support Deputy of Detention? I wouldn't mind an extra blue source, but i'm already low on white (so swapping Sacred Foundry for Steam Vents doesn't appeal). If I drop Foundry for Fountain, I cannot search up red sources to cast my kiki-jiki quite as easily. I also want enough green sources for T1 Dork (about 18 ideally, giving me about 97% chance to cast BOPs).
7. The last thing I worry about the most is my 2-drops. The fewer Voice of Resurgence I play, the worse my UWx match-up becomes. The more of them I play, the less flexibility and options I have (e.g. scooze, pridemage, selfless spirit, thalia etc). There's only so many slots which makes it tricky (hence the Rhythm question earlier).
Much to think about, any thoughts from you guys would be great.
My recent record is a 3-2 and then 4x 4-1. I'm 0-1 in this league. My losses of late have been to Burn a couple of times, Grixis Shadow, U-tron and the mirror. The mirror is generally hard for me because I have very little relevant interaction and I am lower on combo pieces (e.g. the Saheeli Rai version is quicker than mine, so decks have MD Path etc).
I'm occasionally playing saheeli vannifer deck, One of the worst cards ti me atm seems to bè vannifar. She allways dies and get a removal spell, without haste its Easy disrupt the combo. Dubbi, i was quite Happy, but now It doesnt seem ti work. It Can win games from nothing though, but i dropped them to 3
Btw I've had good results in playtesting so far with acidic slime in the saheeli builds alongside phantasmal image. Between saheeli, felidar, Kiki, and image you can blink/copy the thing into oblivion and set someone's mana back incredibly well.
It rumbles really well with deaths shadow/eldrazi/gurmags/hollow one or it eats removal that isn't pointed at a combo piece. The deck can ramp pretty hard off the back of a cobra/rallier and then evolution for it at soon as t2 (dork, cobra, rallier, 2 lands with one being a fetch, and an eldritch evolution). Yeah 6 cards, but it's very doable since the lands and dorks are redundant pieces.
Could help with tron and multicolor decks. Especially if someone takes T1 off to cast something like seeum visions and then you nuke a land with cobra, dork, ooze as your board.
@Depian Your list looksa bit similar to mine, with some more value pieces added. I wasn't impressed by the combination though, but I'm glad to see, someone is still trying and I'm curious how the deck will perform to you.
The deck didn't perform bad but didn't perform great either. I think it was too value-focused and it was cute but not effective. I've decided to take a different approach and decided to dump the Saheeli combo since we can't fetch her so in the end I usually had to rely on Kiki-Jiki to go off and doing so without any way to protect it seemed like a tough task.
I decided I wanted to replace Saheeli with another engine to search for creatures so I am now playing 3 Chord of Calling and 3 Eldritch Evolution. Not sure if there has been discussion on how these cards work together and if there is an established way to build with both of them.
I haven't tried but I don't think I would like Rythm of the Wild, I think it would be like Saheeli, you can't fetch it and you want to find 1 early but you rarely want to find more than 1 and even then it feels like more of a cute card that combos with Persist (I like that with it on the battlefield there is no need for a bad card like Breaching Hippocamp for going off but at least the creature can be fetched and we don't really that much if it gets bolted since we mostly want it for the ETB)
So, here is the list I will be playing now, I think it's more streamlined and focused while still packing some cute interactions that provide a ton of value like Thragtusk (he is decent vs aggro, midrange and control and the interaction with Resto is too cute to miss):
I have thought of trying to fit some Spell Queller and Lavinia, Azorious Renegade to lock the opponent and because of her interaction vs Terminus but I think it's still on the cute side of things and Gaddock should be helpful enough vs control.
Odd: I probably combo off with Saheeli Felidar about half the time with the Saheeli Felidar Vannifar build. Granted, this tends to happen more often when I play 4 of each.
I still have the feeling that the Saheeli Felidar Vannifar build has better overall match-ups than the Plain Vannifar build: while the Humans match-up gets worse (but remains favourable), the Mardu match-up improves, and the Gx Tron match-up skyrockets. From my experience, at least pre-board, Spirits is similarly bad, UR Phoenix is similarly bad, the Jund match-up is about the same, so is the Grixis Death's Shadow match-up (which seems unfavourable so far), heck so is the BR Hollow One one, and the Burn match-up is about the same as long as the Plain Vannifar build has Shalai in it. The Hardened Scales Robots match-up is swingy and highly depends on their ability to find Walking Ballista--you're markedly favoured until they find that guy.
yeah, the only chance to hit Saheeli more often was with Oath of nissa, but as it offers some card filtering, it's not really strong. I've lost too many games to my own Oath which put my Evo on the bottom of library and did nothing except drawing me card. Now I'm on Serum visions and as quickly run through discord, I'll try Glittering wish, but I don't have particular decklist for that, yet.

I really wanted to play this deck this last FNM, but I only got 2 of my Prime Speaker Vannifars in the mail. So I went with Blue Living End with Electrodominance instead. I've been looking over some lists, including daviusminimus's list and the 5-0 lists. Feel free to post more lists. I'm looking for the most streamlined one and I may need to buy some Bounding Krasis and Breaching Hippocamp, lol.

So, I ran AngledLuffa's 5-0 list at a 28 person FNM. Didn't do too well.
Round 1 vs. BUG Shadow. This guy actually does very well. I know the past 2 FNMs, he was 3-0-1 at both. He sticks with decks that he has built and worked on for years. In the first game, he floods out. I flood out too, but get him low enough to swing with a Birds of Paradise twice with 2 Exalted triggers from 2 Noble Hierarchs while chump blocking with another creature on his Death's Shadow and taking a bit from a Gurmag Angler. He had some discard that got 2 Chord of Callings during this game. In the next game, he floods out again and my hand is just pure gas. He ends up having to play out his last card in hand; a Tarmogoyf. I chump because I have Tracker and E Witness and more. I get Deputy of Detention the next turn after he drew a 2nd Tarmogoyf. He scoops. 2-0.
Round 2 vs. RG Breach. Not what I wanted to face, but maybe he won't draw the nuts? A friend that car pools to some events together. In the first game, I play a bunch of dorks and try to set up for Chord of Calling for Bounding Krasis into Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. He does turn 3 Breach and since I'm at 19, he kills 2 dorks instead. I know I'm dead, so I just draw to see "what could have been." The next turn I'm dead to a Mountain. In the next game, I play mana dork into 2 more since I draw another one. He does exile Simian Spirit Guide, Anger of the Gods. I assume that if I keep drawing mana dorks, there's really no way to play around Anger of the Gods. I had Shalai next turn. A couple of turns later, Breach a Prime Time again and I'm dead. He said he kept on 2 Red sources, but peeled Wooded Foothills to Farseek turn 3. I literally got wrecked. 0-2.
Round 3 vs. Value Town. This guy switches between GW versions of Company, but I hadn't seen him play this before. But I did watch his Round 2, so I knew exactly what he was on. In the first game, he double Path to Exiles all my few creatures while I peel lands. Noble Hierarch into Knight of the Reliquary, but I Zealous Conscripts, taking it, swinging, then Eldritch Evolution it for Prime Speaker Vannifar. He Path to Exiled my Vannifar and Tireless Tracker, so all I had was Zealous Conscripts and a Kiki-Jiki in my hand. I draw the 3rd Red source and kill him. Whew! In the next game, Noble Hierarch into Knight of the Reliquary again. He Path to Exiles twice and Dromoka's Command once and after drawing a lot of lands, I have no creatures left. In the final game, I am hoping to draw Eldritch Evolution or Chord of Calling to find Glen Elendra Archmage to prevent the double Path to Exile I've seen from the other games. Then I need to draw Kiki-Jiki. I have Bounding Krasis in play. I keep drawing lands. I draw a Noble Hierarch. I cannot do much. He has 4-5 cards in his hand the whole time. I draw for the turn...Glen Elendra Archmage. I scoop. I was actually really upset to draw a card where he can Path to Exile some creatures while it's on the stack. I wanted to Chord or Evolution because I don't think the Archmage was on his radar since he let me do it earlier to Knight of Autumn a Worship, then E Witness the Knight to get a Courser of Kruphix. It turns out he had 4 Path to Exile this game. I knew 1 for sure since he revealed it with Courser and I assumed a 2nd, but there literally was no way I was winning this game. He could Path to Exile every single creature I drew this game, including value creatures. I personally think with so many Blue sources in the deck, Dispel in the SB is a real option, although I realize that Glen Elendra Archmage does it twice. 1-2.
Round 4 vs. Humans. He goes Noble Hierarch into Mantis Rider. Then double Image, although I Bounding Krasis one of them. I am nearly dead next turn, but I can eat Image with Scavenging Ooze to stay at 1. He shows me Thalia's Lieutenant. GG. In the next game, I land turn 2 Magus of the Moon off Birds and 2 basics. Eventually I am able to use Chord of Calling and E Witness from hand to get there. I Chord of Calling to protect the Magus from Dismember, hoping to get Spellskite (I Chorded for 4 though). I then decide to look for Glen Elendra Archmage because I had Blue up, but I hadn't sided it in. Then I notice Shalai and he loses soon after that. In the final game, it is grindy, but I am able to land a Thragtusk that I drew. Then I was able to use Eldritch Evolution that I had for a while on a Kitchen Finks that I drew to get Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. I copy Thragtusk a turn, then the Kiki gets Dismembered, but he's down to 4 life now. I draw another Evolution and use it on the 2/1 Kitchen Finks to get another Kiki. He says, "you have another Kiki?" I say, "yep." 2-1.
I finish 2-2, which was rough. I had 2-2ed or 2-1-1ed 4 FNMs in a row until last week's 3-0-1 with UR Living End, so I wanted to repeat that performance or better. Sucked for me. Tough opponents and tough draws, although I wish that I sideboarded better. I literally didn't know how to side vs. Value Town. I sided out the singleton Tireless Tracker since I figured I can't win "that battle." He has more and he has turn 2 Knight of the Reliquary, so I doubt I'm getting more clues. I felt the combo route, dodging Path to Exile, was my best option. Does somebody know a better way?

Hello everyone! Long time Kiki-Chord player who found a new toy in Vannifar. Went to a local weekly tonight and finished 3-0. Beat 4c Whir 2-0, GB Midrange 2-1, and Mono R Phoenix 2-0. Decklist felt great, although I accidentally left a Voice in, meant to cut all of them. Thinking of cutting Glen from the MB and moving her to the side.
I personally tend to favor the version with less top-end creatures. Instead of that, I prefer to play a bunch of dorks (8). That way, I will probably have one to start the combo. How likely is it that when you start your turn with PSV in play you will: (i) have a creature with CMC 2-5 in play and (ii) not have a second creature?
If you really want a way to combo off the CMC 2-5 creatures, I would probably not play the top-end creatures nor the Ranger of Eaos+Kami package. I'd rather use just one slot and play something like Gravedigger (or Restoration Gearsmith, as someone else in the forum was mentioning).
I am also not convinced of how useful Phantasmal Image is. It only seems useful (1) against GY hate or (2) when we have not enough forests in play to combo off Ranger. Will people use GY hate against us?
I also wanted to mention that I have found Wall of roots really useful to accelerate Chords and to Eldritch Evol for PSV, I am surprised people don't use more of them.
@Slowman - there's a lot of different lists floatin around but they generally have the following setup:
21 lands + 11 dorks - this set-up has 3 wall of roots
22 lands + 10 dorks - 7x 1-drop & 3 walls
23 lands + 9 dorks - 4 BOPs 4 Hierarch and a wall
They all run 32 mana sources. Pignorton's list that you linked above is a different beast altogether, and the first i've seen of its kind.
My personal opinion is that you don't really need to run so many combo pieces. I think Scryb Ranger + Rallier is sufficient, and I don't see the need for the 6-drops or the Ranger of Eos package. Having said all of that, my results are not great either. So, it could be that I'm going down the wrong route and I should have more combo pieces. I'm not sure though, i think just having better creatures in general helps vs midrange and control.
Thalia has been good though, so Pignortons onto something there!
I just ran this tonight and i must say that rhythm of the wild is real, and scryb ranger over preformed. Samut is also pretty beastly. I went 3-1. I do want to make room for an eidollon or worship in the sb though.

Straight Temur for consistency, Blood Moon, and better at casting Kiki. I quickly fell in love with Gen Servant and I’m shocked nobody else has found success with it. It’s actually been pretty hard not to goldfish turn three if your opening hand is dork/Servant/Vannifar. Cut bellower and conscripts to help out the curve and finding that combining all the way up the chain of s single body wasn’t worth the deck space. Phantasmal Image and Minamo are there to help me navigate through combos when pieces are exiled or in the yard. Hall of the Bandit lord takes a spell slot for me and has been tremendous. Pact over Chord to make use of The haste enablers, plus chord kinda sucks when all your tutor targets are four or five mana.I think this list is the fastest I’ve seen.
With 7 virtual copies of Vannifar with Pact, Gen Servant is pretty much the ideal turn two while it also combines with Fauna Shaman for a sick line of:
Crack Servant, use one ‘haste mana’ to cast shaman, activate for Vannifar, use the second ‘haste mana’ for Vannifar and combo off at the cost of your Servant, any creature from hand, and 1GGGU to start chaining. Not bad as a tertiary way to combo same turn with Gen Servant.
I know my list is quite different so I’m hoping for some feedback from you guys
Lemonbuster, I still think that keeping a lone-1-drop-into-full-combo chain IS worth the deck space; that is by far the most common lone-drop chain I've comboed off with. Sadly, the only such chain that uses only Temur colours is the one you've stripped pieces from (the deck-slot-expensive Conscripts-and-Bellower chain). Have you never run into a situation where you were dead next turn or risked not surviving to see next turn if you didn't combo off from Vannifar and a mana dork alone? (I personally have run into that situation several times already.)
not having a deputy of detention i think is a mistake and id ditch the fauna for conscripts and bellower. the ability to just win is better than utility fauna offers.

That link shouldn't expire. 100+ members at the minute.
I left the deck at something like this:
http://deck.tk/3pWd5QEG
4 Birds of Paradise
2 Noble Hierarch
2 Scavenging Ooze
2 Scryb Ranger
1 Selfless Spirit
1 Spellskite
2 Wall of Roots
2 Deceiver Exarch
1 Eternal Witness
2 Kitchen Finks
1 Knight of Autumn
1 Reflector Mage
2 Renegade Rallier
1 Breaching Hippocamp
4 Prime Speaker Vannifar
2 Restoration Angel
2 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
1 Thragtusk
3 Chord of Calling
3 Eldritch Evolution
Lands (21)
1 Fire-Lit Thicket
1 Flooded Strand
1 Hallowed Fountain
1 Island
1 Plains
1 Sacred Foundry
1 Stomping Ground
2 Forest
2 Temple Garden
2 Breeding Pool
4 Windswept Heath
4 Misty Rainforest
2 Selfless Spirit
1 Knight of Autumn
3 Path to Exile
1 Gaddock Teeg
1 Kataki, War's Wage
1 Deputy of Detention
1 Eidolon of Rhetoric
1 Izzet Staticaster
1 Magus of the Moon
1 Linvala, Keeper of Silence
2 Settle the Wreckage
I have thought of trying to fit some Spell Queller and Lavinia, Azorious Renegade to lock the opponent and because of her interaction vs Terminus but I think it's still on the cute side of things and Gaddock should be helpful enough vs control.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Round 1 vs.

New to the forum here. What do you think of the 5-0 lists that just appeared in MOL? There is a lot to discuss here...
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/mtgo-standings/competitive-modern-constructed-league-2019-02-12
